Harry Caray watching over his restaurant

Our lovely friends from Los Angeles are in town and immediately wanted to hit the ground running; and running they / we did. The Navy Pier was stop #1 with Harry Caray's Bar and restaurant being stop #2. This lovely restaurant has so much sports memorabilia on every wall, door, nook and cranny everywhere, you need an audio tour headset to understand the history of the iconic Mr. Harry Caray. The menu was sports bar centric and us two people ordered (of course) a Chicago footlong Hot Dog with all of the fixings. I must admit, it was pretty good! Since I moved here (Chicago) four years ago, The Wiener Circle was my hotdog place. But with our guests in town they jumped all over Harry Caray's and of course, I politely dove in also. It was very busy here on this warm and beautiful day and the service here was very good and the ambiance a terrific show for tourists not familiar to Chicago and its love of sports. I could feel the Navy Pier getting ready for the summer tourist rush!

Such a perfect location at the start of Navy Pier! Tons of sports memorabilia from Harry Carry's reining era! This is a family sports bar and restaurant is how I'm describing it. There is an outdoor bar on the patio with a lot of seating. Tons of seating inside as well. The food was decent and worth it for a touristy spot. Because of its location, there is a slight breeze from the lake. Combined with umbrellas for table shade, it was the perfect afternoon pit stop experience before making our way further on the pier. Our server was cool, great, and attentive in our lively environment. I can't wait to go back with my wife!

I decided to stop in at this restaurant simply because I walked by and it caught my attention. The service started off a bit slow, but once our server got going, she was perfectly fine and attentive for the rest of the meal. I ordered the rigatoni alla vodka. The dish itself was good, but not anything that truly stood out. I did add crumbled sausage for an extra $5, which felt a bit disappointing since there was barely any sausage noticeable in the dish, definitely not worth the upcharge. For an appetizer, I tried the toasted ravioli. It was tasty, but the portion was very small for the price. Good flavor, just not very filling. Overall, the food was good but not amazing. I left satisfied, but it's not a place I'd personally go out of my way to return to.

After walking 6.5 miles from Grant Park to the Navy Pier, finding this restaurant was like finding an oasis. On a warm Friday afternoon in September, sitting outside here with a cold Goose Island was perfect! Since we were visiting from NJ, my wife and I wanted to try the Chicago hot dogs. The foot longs here were fantastic! I ordered mine with Onion rings which were also very good. Inside the place is very cool with so many photos of celebrities everywhere. Fun place to stop if you're at the Navy Pier!

I had my 30th birthday party here and Ksenia helped me plan it. She did a wonderful job helping me out via email and I felt very confident in how it would go. She set me up with a great bar tender and server (I unfortunately forgot their names). I was pleasantly surprised when Ksenia emailed me about a updated even menu, regular menu, and catering menu and I VERY HAPPILY changed up my menu for the party Everyone raved about the food. I did a cocktail type party so open bar and hearty apps! It was so fun. they decorate so beautifully for Christmas so I did not have to decorate for my birthday. Everyone had a blast. One of my favorite bdays so far :) Thanks Harry Caray's Tavern!

Really delicious food with friendly, fast service. So glad we stopped here. We had a delicious blue colada drink, a bbq burger, cup of chili, artichoke dip and jalapeno burger. The food was made just right and everything had very good unique flavors. I highly recommend the blue colada drink and bbq burger both tasted delicious. If you are in the area stop by this place.

We had some yummy beers and appetizers here. It's the cutest place with a ton of memorabilia to Chicago sports. The service was great too

Wall m need in and was seated immediately outside on the pier. Waiter was quickly taking our order. Food arrived very prompt and was delicious. Holy Cow burger is delicious.

We were outside & popped inside due to the heat. Music to start soon!

Great Chicago footlong dog - yummy fries and the chipotle ranch on a salad has a great kick. View, staff & memorabilia is great!

Harry Caray's Tavern was was one of many stops while visiting Chicago. Although it looked crowded my party was able to walk right up without a reservation and get a choice of inside or patio seating, we chose outside to people watch and listen to a live band that was at the Navy Pier for the evening. The patio was well lit even as the sun went down so we were still able to enjoy our meal as the night fell. I ordered the fettucine Alfredo and it came with a piece of garlic bread, I loved the fettucine but the bread for me was dynamite.

I think there were some kind of corporate happy hour happening in the back, but a friend and myself just came in for quick drinks. I usually don't drink on the weekdays, so I ended up just getting an iced tea and him a tequila soda, but because I don't drink, we decided to get an appetizer and we browsed the menu for a minute and ended up splitting the Parmesan chicken egg rolls. Truthfully, I really just wanted to see what that would entail because it seemed a little disgusting or maybe even some kind of high-food, but to my surprise, it was actually a really crispy skinned pizza roll. I'm pretty sure it had been previously frozen, but in that moment- served with a side of marinara, I didn't really care. It was full of gooey melted mozzarella cheese and almost like a breaded chicken nugget center. Pretty decent as far as bar food goes. They also had crab rangoon to which I thought, "hmm are they doing a little too much?!" I'm sure drunk me would have gotten them years ago so what can ya do. Overall, quite a positive experience. The bartender was really sweet and everything wasn't super expensive. I've been in the neighborhood for such a long time, but I've actually never been here and I'm glad I came on a night that it wasn't chaotic.

The first thing I noticed walking in was the ambiance. Nice decor with a city hotspot feel. We had a teen and tween with us and both found something on the menu. Most of us ordered bowls with sesame sauce which were delicious. We each ordered different meats with our bowls and no complaints. My son had a crispy chicken sandwich which he devoured and my daughter had a quesadilla which they prepared especially for her without any sauce. Everything was tasty. We had a problem with our order when my daughter found a small piece of plastic wrapper in her food. We told our waiter and he immediately informed management. The manager came over and offered a new plate but my daughter was fine having the current plate. So instead, she comped her meal and gave her a choice of dessert with a gigantic milk. Despite the minor glitch, this place deserves 5 stars for the way they handled this issue. We feel they went above and beyond to remedy the situation. If only all restaurant management were like this. If we are ever in Chicago again, we will be back.

No notes. The sandwich had candied bacon on it with this perfect sweet flavor, and it normally comes with honey Dijon--but I don't do Dijon, so I swapped it for this garlic sauce ‍ And when I say that garlic tanginess mixed with the sweet candied bacon... whew. Chef's kiss. Absolute perfection. My boyfriend got the steak wok bowl with corn, broccoli, brown rice, and some other veggies--and I definitely stole a few bites It was SO good. Like... flavorful, fresh, just everything. The whole vibe? Perfect for a lunch date. The ambiance was cute, relaxed, and just right And I loved that they serve room temperature water (because ice? not my thing ‍) But let's talk about the real star--our waiter Eli He was AMAZING. Super personable, funny, and just a whole vibe. He had the cutest red cat-eye nails and burgundy hair accents--like, style on point He told us he manages both the Gold Coast and River North locations, so I'm definitely hoping we run into him again. And when me and my boyfriend were holding hands at the end, he goes, "Aww this is so cute. I'm not jealous though" we all cracked up. Just made the experience even better. Listen... 5 stars is not enough. It's just not. If you've been thinking about going--THIS IS YOUR SIGN. Go. I promise you won't regret it

Travel is hell when you have celiac. I am sensitive to the parts per million level and one bad bite…read moreof food can keep me up all night, or send me to bed or the hotel bathroom for days. I will spare the details. I am not a gluten free trendy who has a pastry for desert; this is an issue that's followed me my whole life. Usually when trveling, I end up eating carrots, rotisserie chicken and coldcuts when my supply of hard boiled eggs runs out. Every now and then I hit the jackpot. I arrived in Chicago on a Thrusday afternoon in September and first thing, set out around the neighborhood to find a restaurant where I might be able to eat. All the usual kinds of places (naerly all of them corporate) were out of the discussion when I spotted Doc Bs at 55 E. Grand Ave. The exterior was low-key but for some reason I was drawn to it. I went in to check the place out. Usually this part of the discussion goes like a legal deposition. "What do you know, and how do you know it?" I asked for a menu; I was handed one and began to read carefully. Among other things, they offered a kind of rice bowl dish, a bit like hot poke (the Wok Out Bowl). It came with a diversity of sauces -- Curry, Sesame Teriyaki , Sweet & Spicy Thai, etc. I said, "Which of these sauces has no gluten?" "All of them," said someone named Cassandra, responding in a confident voice. She was the general manager. "Our company takes food sensitivity very seriously. We also have gluten free deep fryers." I pushed a little harder: Cassanda said she could account for every ingredient in every dish on the menu. Right away I was having a 1 in 1000 expeience. Even in the top tier of places aware of the gluten issue (which is no longer vogue), I am often saved by a server who has a clue what goes into the food. Cross-contamination is an issue; as is ignorance about product. Gluten-safe dining is usually based on a stripped down menu; and some places commit outright fraud by neglecting to mention known issues in the kitchen but still saying GF on the menu. My theory of keeping gluten out of restaurant food is **start with none, and add it only where you need it**, which is nearly in nothing. She said that's exactly what we do. My second theory of gluten free is **parity of experience**. That means that everyone at the table has an equivalent experience. The whole table does not enjoy sumptuous deserts while the GF person gets canned pears. At Doc B's I could eat anything on the menu, including French fries and chips and salsa (small, taken-for-granted pleasures by most diners). My third theory of gluten free dining is **no gluen free upcharge.** It's tacky, and adds insult to injury (especially when a GF bun or bread is subpar, as was NOT the case at Doc B's). Doc B's got 100% on all counts. That and the food was consistently excellent. I ate there seven times over five days trying many things (but having a lot of Wok Out bowls). I sent several people and brought four different friends, one of whom had such such extreme dietary restrictions he could usually order an apple. They accommodated him perfectly, with a positive attitude. And there you have it. This gets the highest possible rating from the Gluten Avenver -- seven stars. -- Eric F Coppolino

Luckily the window high top bar-seats were available. Not great for catching up in conversation over a meal, but it was better than the a fast food place nearby. The food was great! We had the guacamole as an appetizer - if you don't like cilantro - you will want to avoid it. It was an interesting appetizer, as it came with sweet potato chips. Both were good...not sure it pairs well. (I saved the guacamole for my burger) I had the wedge burger, primarily for the egg. It was great! The burger was perfectly cooked as was the sunny side up egg. I ordered it with a side of fries. Perfectly cooked fries. They give huge portions. I was able to share with my friends. I ordered a cranberry and tonic for a beverage. It was great, however, they served it in a "bar" glass, so it was not a lot of liquid. I had to order two. I prefer pint glasses for non-alcohol beverages. Tasted great, just needed more. Prices are reasonable for a city restaurant. Without tip for 4 adults, 4 entrees and 1 appetizer and soda-water beverages. It came to about $130. Parking...If you can walk or take a ride share. It's the city and parking options aren't great.
