    Fried calamari
    Jenny T.

Not bad, but not super duper memorable. Stopped here after an exhibit for a quick bite. Ceviche was good; wasn't a fan of the al dente sweet potato though. The calamari was super bready and there weren't a lot of tentacle pieces; I did really like the sweet pepper sauce but it was really watery so didn't really stay on the calamari. The avocado toast was good but the amount of octopus was disappointing. The raspberry iced tea tasted like flavored water... Kind of gross. Overall really fast service, decent enough food and a good option if you don't want to venture out of Navy Pier.

This is a nice spot right at Navy Pier. It's a chill Latinx restaurant, Peruvian cuisine. The service is wonderfully friendly. The salmon was good a little more done than. I like. My eyes were bigger than my belly so I had to leave some food behind. I was satisfied tho.

Fabulous experience here! First time for me at the Navy Pier, and the menu looked good so... Your choice of a large indoor dining room or outdoor seating, and we took the latter, with narrow bar like seating overlooking the water. Fernando was our server and was extremely helpful with choosing our food, as we probably would not have enjoyed our original choice. Drinks: classic mojito was smooth, double Captain and diet a stringing pour. We started with tuna ceviche tostadas, two beautifully prepared tostadas with incredible flavored ceviche, light yet filling. We also shared mariscada, a wonderful mix of seafood with a peanut sauce that had quite the kick. We were able to catch the weekly Saturday night fireworks Fromm our seats while being comfortably seated. Billy, a photographer, went around taking photos, so we bought some. Nice guy as well. Inside dining room was large; many diners inside and out. DJ was working outside, music not consistently what I'd listen to but added to the fun, Miami Beach vibe. Prices what you'd expect for a touristy area but food again was delicious.

It's July 4th. We are on the pier and dropped in. No line, no wait and food in less than 10 minutes. Serve hot and ready. Shrimp dip was delicious and pita was serve soft and to order . The ambiance was great. Music playing in the background.

We came during December, we were waking by the pier and found this spot. Everything we ordered blew our minds in presentation and flavor. People complain about the price but what do you expect a restaurant in a prime location to be? Service was very quick with alot of extra options. We will definitely recommend if you guys like mariscos and a good time!

Excellent service, excellent food! We stopped in here for a quick bite and to rest our tootsies after walking down to Navy Pier. The staff was friendly and on the ball. We had to the tuna ceviche tostadas, and they were fresh and delicious. I had an aperol sprirz that I was very happy with. I'd definitely visit again,

Prime real estate near the end of navy pier! Bar Sol has a great atmosphere with stunning views, perfect for a celebration. The staff was attentive and made the experience fun with sparklers on the dessert. However, the strong bar smell made it harder to fully enjoy the food. Overall, a lively spot for special occasions, but the ambiance could be improved. -AT

The food was good. Nothing special. The food is on the pricier side which is to be expected since it is in Navy Pier by the water. The environment was nice. I ate outside with my girlfriend and children. The service was ok no complaints.

Great Spot for Fireworks Night! We picked this place because it looked like the view would be good on a Wednesday night. The outdoor seating provided a great view once 9:00 came around. The staff was very friendly and accommodated our request for seats with a view of the water. The waiter was quick and had good recommendations. She had the garlic shrimp and I ordered the steak tacos. We both really enjoyed our meals. She had a Paloma and I had a beer. Both were well prepared and served. The food was perfectly delicious and given the available view during the fireworks, it's really a great value if you are visiting Chicago, and have Navy Pier on your list, this is a great choice for dinner.

Visited this place during work trip to Chicago. Good vibes and friendly service. Beautiful view of the Navy Pier. The food is overpriced and underwhelming.

Located on the Navy Pier, Bar Sol is a vibrant Latin-inspired cuisine with amazing views of Lake Michigan. During my brief visit to Chicago, I seized the opportunity to grab a snack at this newest addition to the pier's culinary scene, and I was not disappointed. The spot had great beats of lively music and indoors or outdoors seating. I sat at the bar. Service was fast and friendly. The tuna tostadas caught my eye so that's what I chose. The tostadas had very generous portions of fresh tuna, crunch of the tostadas, a great blend of sauces and a kick of spice which I needed. So glad I stumbled upon this new spot!

    Lobster dish
    Daisy P.

We all enjoyed our food. My son ordered a lobster dish that was $125, others had the fish & chips, chicken fajitas and Chiliquilles (sp?) they give plenty of food. The only issue was $3 each for a small bit of sour cream $3 for even smaller amount of cheese, tartar sauce and ketchup For the price of the food those should have been free considering the small amount you get. Our bill for 4 was $353. They also added their own gratuity for a table of 4 which most places do for tables of 6. Great view. For the price I don't think we'd go back. Waiters were nice and took one of the lobster claws to kitchen to have cracked since it was unbreakable

First of all, it is absolutely gorgeous inside! I am in awe of the fine details and want to meet the interior designers! Our waiter, Moe, was personable and friendly and offered us great recommendations. It was about half full at the time we were here - I saw a lot of people ordering the plantain chips! They must be good! We didn't order them, however. My boyfriend and I each got the weekdays meal deal where, for $29 a person, we get our choice of a salad or soup, then our choice of the entree, and a drip coffee and dessert. Since half the entrees cost nearly $29 to begin with, this is a great deal! I chose the kale salad with dressing on the side. My boyfriend chose the butternut squash soup. In our relationship, sharing is caring! So we each tried each other's food. My salad was unique - I liked the dressing and I LOVE when fresh fruit are in salads! We both liked the soup as well and finished both our appetizers. As is my tradition, I had to get their cubano. It is a very large portion, but I love cubanos! The pulled pork was pretty fatty but like, the perfect amount of fatty for the unhealthy sandwich that is a cubano! My boyfriend got the kimchi salmon entree. I'm not big into salmon, but he liked it! The dish is gorgeous, by the way. Chef Sandoval is a master in the art of making a dish very colorful. Look at that avocado! So fresh! The drip coffee was fine. And my side of French fries were the least interesting part of our meals. We didn't feel the need to finish the fries. Our meal deal dessert was a large chocolate chip cookie. My boyfriend ate his chocolate chip cookie right away. I had a bite to see how it was fresh, learned it tasted fine, and saved the rest of my cookie for later in the day for a nice afternoon treat! In all, after tax and tip, we left full and happy for about $75! Not bad for Chicago!

Interior was really neat, and the music was not too loud or too quiet either which I always appreciate. We had several appetizer dishes, as well as the arroz Mariscos. The only thing I did not like about this place was that the food all came out a different times. The other couple that we were with had several of their dishes before we had anything. We did order chips to split at the table, so it's not like we had nothing to eat, but I feel like when restaurants bring things out as they are made, it lends to a weird dynamic between two different couples if you were ordering together. That being said, our food came out not too terribly long after the other couple's. Overall, great time here, and delicious food. Would happily come back!

Surrounded by office buildings and big companies, this spot brings a real taste of Venezuela to the Loop and people know it. I saw so many non-Venezuelans coming in for lunch, which says a lot about how good this place is. They serve arepas with huge, flavorful fillings, cachapas, and Venezuelan bowls that look and taste amazing. Everything was fresh, and the service was super fast and friendly. The empanaditas come in orders of three, same with the tequeños, and they're perfectly stuffed, small enough to try different flavors, which I loved. They also have natural juices. I had a passion fruit one and it was delicious, perfectly sweet, super cold, and really refreshing. They even sell Frescolita, Malta, and all those drinks that make Venezuelans instantly nostalgic. There's plenty of space to sit, and the location couldn't be more convenient. Honestly, this place is a 10 out of 10. Whether you're grabbing something quick or sitting down for lunch, it's perfect. The portions are generous, the food is complete, protein, carbs, flavor, everything you need in one plate. It's not the cheapest spot in town, but that's just how Venezuelan food is, and trust me, it's absolutely worth every dollar. Three of the four of us ordered pisco cocktails, and they were great! The chilcano is a pisco variation on a Moscow mule. I'm not a big fan of mules, but I liked the chilcano a lot. There are areas of opportunity that could have been better. Octopus was a bit overcooked and you can definitely taste the chewiness of it. Flavor is ok but text for this dish did not come through. Ceviche "Jipijapa" de Manabi was a bit salty also, but not to the extreme. Scaling back the sodium level to achieve balance would made this a good dish. If sodium is needed, salt can be introduced afterwards. Lomo Saltado was paired with an aioli sauce instead of the green Aji verde sauce. I arrived at the restaurant on time (4:30) and checked in with the hostess, who said I could only be seated when the entire group of three arrived. This seemed weird given the restaurant was pretty empty at this time, and ordinarily I'd order a drink while waiting at the table. Regardless, I went to Starbucks instead because I knew the other two were a few minutes behind. When I got back to the restaurant, my friend said the hostess told him we absolutely had to leave within 1.5 hours because we were late... which seemed odd because he may have checked in 15 minutes after our reservation, to an empty restaurant, that already refused to seat me on time. Regardless, the food was delicious. I had the Pollo in ChiChilo-- the mole was delicious, and I loved the chicken and sweet potato. I ordered the mole on the side, which seemed like a nice balance. Since the hostess wouldn't previously seat me, I had a lovely iced matcha latte with oat milk and half a pump of vanilla from Starbucks, which was a nice pairing. Note: the restaurant charges an automatic 20% gratuity which may explain the service. Keep this in mind to avoid tipping more than you intend.
