The Pier was quiet on a weekday in winter, but the service was very warm. Food was fine to good and we appreciated the discount for theater goers. Not bad, but not super duper memorable. Stopped here after an exhibit for a quick bite. Ceviche was good; wasn't a fan of the al dente sweet potato though. The calamari was super bready and there weren't a lot of tentacle pieces; I did really like the sweet pepper sauce but it was really watery so didn't really stay on the calamari. The avocado toast was good but the amount of octopus was disappointing. The raspberry iced tea tasted like flavored water... Kind of gross. Fabulous experience here! First time for me at the Navy Pier, and the menu looked good so... Your choice of a large indoor dining room or outdoor seating, and we took the latter, with narrow bar like seating overlooking the water. Fernando was our server and was extremely helpful with choosing our food, as we probably would not have enjoyed our original choice. Drinks: classic mojito was smooth, double Captain and diet a stringing pour. We started with tuna ceviche tostadas, two beautifully prepared tostadas with incredible flavored ceviche, light yet filling. We also shared mariscada, a wonderful mix of seafood with a peanut sauce that had quite the kick. We were able to catch the weekly Saturday night fireworks Fromm our seats while being comfortably seated. Billy, a photographer, went around taking photos, so we bought some. Nice guy as well. Inside dining room was large; many diners inside and out. DJ was working outside, music not consistently what I'd listen to but added to the fun, Miami Beach vibe. Great Spot for Fireworks Night! We picked this place because it looked like the view would be good on a Wednesday night. The outdoor seating provided a great view once 9:00 came around. The staff was very friendly and accommodated our request for seats with a view of the water. The waiter was quick and had good recommendations. She had the garlic shrimp and I ordered the steak tacos. We both really enjoyed our meals. She had a Paloma and I had a beer. Both were well prepared and served. We all enjoyed our food. My son ordered a lobster dish that was $125, others had the fish & chips, chicken fajitas and Chiliquilles (sp?) they give plenty of food. The only issue was $3 each for a small bit of sour cream $3 for even smaller amount of cheese, tartar sauce and ketchup For the price of the food those should have been free considering the small amount you get. I ordered the lobster linguine only to be shocked in the best way to find out that I not only had the creamiest and most delicious linguine with a mushroom sauce, but that there was an entire lobster tail on top of my pasta. It was like the whole thing was dipped in butter. After that, I had the bread pudding. It was actually to die for. It was so moist and had a thin layer of brie on top and also some drizzled caramel. Over the 2025 Labor Day weekend, my group of four adults and four kids dined at Del Sol, where we experienced terrible service. Our corner table was set with only six sets of silverware and six glasses of water for eight people. Despite our food arriving, two guests still lacked silverware and water, even after repeatedly asking multiple servers who dismissed us with promises of "one second" and no follow-through. Only after I raised my voice did the main waitress sarcastically dump five forks and five knives in my lap. Even then, we never received the two missing glasses of water by the end of the meal. The restaurant's mandatory gratuity policy felt unfair, as it left us no way to express our dissatisfaction with the poor service through tipping. The Doctor and I were staying at The Sable Hotel, celebrating our anniversary on the lakefront. We decided to give Bar Sole a try for lunch. This use to be Riva Café on. Bar Sole is on the first floor, no sure why they are not using the second floor, but I digress. We didn't have a reservation, but it didn't matter as we were seated right away outside. I got the Chilaquiles with steak. This was a $34 meal that was just meh. The menu mentioned that the eggs were scramble, but I requested that they be over easy. That did not help at all. The cost didn't bother me, it was the fact that it was flavorless and that I did not feel like the serving of steak I got was $12 worth. The Tuna Ceviche Tostadas was pretty good: 2 blue corn tostadas with tuna, avocado, mango Pico de Gallo, sesame seeds, & chipotle aioli. Enjoyed that very much, but pretty steep prices at $22. Guacamole was pretty flavorful as well. The Doctor got Chorizo & potato hash scrambled with red pepper, red onion, roasted corn, spinach, zucchini, yellow squash, & portobello mushrooms. It came with with two fried eggs & hollandaise on blue tortillas. He said it was good. I visited this amazing restaurant over the summer with a group of friends when we were visiting the Navy Pier in Chicago. We walked around and decided to stop here for dinner. We started with drinks and I got the SotoL Eclipse. I had no idea what to expect but it was delicious and everything I love in a drink. It was a little tart which is perfect. I ordered the steak tacos and they were delicious. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly and the salad was amazing. The service was great and the view by the water was amazing. My only complaint is that it was kind of pricey but I guess that is expected at the Navy pier. I had a good experience overall! read more

After finishing the Spartan Deka event, I can finally go for Mexican food and a good ole margarita....oh boy. The first flag, which I shouldn't have ignored, was that for a vibe that SCREAMS Mexican food, they had ketchup and mustard in their condiment holders. I ordered the fish tacos, which I enjoyed enough to not start ordering at other places. The margarita I craved for so long was embarrassing, it came in a solo cup sized cup for $18. Secondly, it felt like they only added a droplet of alcohol into it. As for the service, our service wasn't familiar with English. The utensils/napkins took awhile to be brought out as well. We are always excited to try new places and stumbled upon Bar Sol at Navy Pier. It took over the spot of Riva Cafe on the lower level. We ate here on July 7 when they had been open for barely a week. I originally thought maybe they were having a bad night and we would come back for a second chance, but the next day realized life is too short for this. It was Thursday evening and we were seated right away. We ordered fairly quickly and our waitress was nice. She and the bus boy came over several times to ask if we needed anything, to which we would say "we just need our food" and smile. Our guac and chips arrived 20 minutes later which my two young kids devoured. We noticed a lot of other people who arrived after us and ordered much later than we did had received their food much quicker. We flagged down a manager who personally checked on the status of the food and basically said they were having a busy night. Our entrees finally arrived 55 minutes after we ordered. Ugh. In the meantime, we killed many spiders and swatted away many bugs. Not my favorite thing to do, but it's understandable for this area when dining outside. Food Recommended (I will also include the reactions of my 3 year old and my 7 year old who are not picky eaters) : * Guacamole and Chips: flavorful and without jalapenos; my kids liked this the most * Pork belly tacos: tasty and the onions are perfect; my kids didn't care for the tacos. Nice presentation. Just OK: * Fish tacos: We were told this would not be spicy at all, but it was. My kids took one bite and no more. Nice presentation. * Burger: standard, nothing special. Nice presentation. We took home some of the food and the next day my kids were eating the bowls of beans.. until my daughter pulled out a long wavy brown hair with her fork. YUCK!!! It clearly was not hair from one of us, but it definitely was a hair. TOTALLY GROSS. I don't know what the rule is about securing hair at restaurants these days, but some of the servers and the even the manager had their hair down and all over the place. Service: At one point I waved at the bus boy for more napkins, and he smiled and waved at me. He must be very new to this kind of job. I had to then gesture for him to come over. We didn't blame the server for our food coming out so slow. We tipped her very generously since we wanted to support this business and felt everything is so new, so everyone is still trying to figure things out. Ambiance: Good music that made us want to dance. The outdoor dining is very welcoming, and it's nice to be out seeing people while enjoying Navy Pier. Overall, though, we won't return anytime soon. Until they figure things out, it's not worth the time and money. Plus I'm disgusted at the thought of my kids eating so many beans that had hair in it all along. read more
