I was here for a private networking event in 2026. All the bartenders were friendly and great. Place was reasonably priced and had all the sports on that needed to be on which was key. We came here for the Red Stars bus shuttle deal: 2 tickets, 1 free drink, round strip shuttle to Seatgeek stadium in Bridgeview. This is a tavern in the literal sense of the word: just liquids, NO FOOD. I did not ask but I wonder if they allow outside food. There was a birthday party on the patio with food, but we stayed inside and watched the many tvs with many sports (ok it was Saturday so mostly college football. No baseball, but apparently Baywatch is a thing with them?) I got beer, my party got a vodka martini. The bartenders were friendly and informative. There was a pool table but it was covered. The restrooms were clean and functional, but then it was only 6pm! The atmosphere was chill until we paid our bill and saw the bus outside. The birthday party people were coming in at the same time so it was a little hectic with 2 bartenders. I asked the bartender about the free drinks, he told me the bus driver would have them. I asked the bus driver, he said he had no tickets. The person checking in the Red Stars game arrive, and after we were confirmed, we were told the only thing we could take on the bus was something on draft/tap. We got beer, and had to get a plastic cup. This pushed us to leave late, past the 6:30 time, but it was ok, only about 8-10 of us anyway. When we came back after the game, and live band was playing inside. I'd go back if I were in the area. If the Red Stars make the playoffs, they might broadcast them from there. They are not far from AMC CityNorth 14, so a quick drink there before/after a movie would be the plan. read more

Came to Weeds Tavern on a Friday afternoon with a group of 8 to celebrate a birthday. We grabbed an open table, ordered several rounds, and were having a great time. A couple hours later, a large party showed up, and the owner demanded we move because they had booked the space for a private event -- something we were never told upon arriving or at any point until this interaction. No effort was made by staff to help us relocate; instead, we were forced to the outside patio space into the cold, which ultimately killed the vibe. Super disappointing experience that very easily could've been avoided had the owner not handled it so poorly. read more

If you're looking for a chill spot to enjoy some drinks look no further. Honestly what puts this bar over the top is the staff and John the manager. I haven't met nicer people in Chicago than at this bar. We had a large group on the patio for a party and John and the staff came through clutch with anything and everything we needed. Turned out to be the best day ever thanks to great friends and this amazing bar. John had a killer band playing on the patio they were fantastic played straight for two hours the crowd couldn't get enough of these guys. Plus Westland distillery was there with whiskey tastings and a S'mores station that had whiskey marshmallows. Incredible! Later they fired up the taco station and it was on from there! These tacos were insane we couldn't stop smashing them finally had to just tab out and leave or I don't think we would have stopped eating. I'm in Lincoln Park quite often and didn't know this bar existed until I hung out with some friends that went to high school in the area. It's almost like some kind of alternate universe because go a couple of blocks in any direction and there's a high level of development and New businesses. My friends got some kind of hot cocktail. I stuck with a draft beer and a beer can. They let us have food delivered. There were other customers but it wasn't crowded. Bartender was attentive. I don't know if I'd classify this as a dive bar but if you're searching for a bar without lot of pretense check this place out. Was digging the art as well. read more

Great dive bar in walking distance from Apple Store in Lincoln Park! I had a repair on my iPhone and needed a place to kill 2 hours...enter Weeds Tavern! Place has character and a great outdoor deck! Service was exceptional (wish I could remember her name) and she shared the history of the place (opened in 1963 and, at some point, hosted wrestling matches). They told me Saturday really jumps as it's 'Biker Night'. They also have added food service but it was the great draft beer selection that will bring me back. Fun spot!! read more

Sat on the patio for 40 min. No one serves me. See a bunch of people go inside and come out with drinks. Ok, so there isn't table service despite all the check presenters I see, cool. Finally go inside to ask where to order a drink. She yells that I have to order outside. They are busy. Fine. Wait another 20 minutes. Ask another patron, who was involved in the bike night that I went there for, bartender again tells me to go outside. I let her know how long I have been waiting so she serves me. Cool. Finish my beer, see 3 other tables that walked in RIGHT before I finally order at the bar, they all have drinks already. 15 minutes later I am ready for round 2. Flag down a server (because other than the previously mentioned tables that seems to be the only way anyone else around me is getting service) she tells me no, you can't order from me. So, can't order inside, can't order outside. Have a huge cash tip burning a hole in my pocket (and as a bartender myself I know only people that don't tip say that, but I specifically grab cash because taxation is theft.) So basically I sat there for an hour and a half spending most of that time feeling stupid because it was somehow my fault I couldn't figure out how to order a beer. Guess I am drinking at home and tipping my own damn self. read more

I was here at the final Yelp Beer Garden Club the other night. Interesting place- although from what people told me it used to me like (bras hanging all over, shoes on the ceiling, etc) it was pretty tame. The Garden itself is huge and has a variety of seating areas. If you are looking for something to do while you drink- there is cornhole (complete with lit holes for after dark tossing!) While there is no service on the patio (you have to go in to the main bar to place your order) this is not a problem as the bartenders, at least on the night we were there, were efficient and poured a good drink. Since the bar does not serve food- you can bring it in from a variety of other places in the neighborhood which is also a good thing. Given all the "dive" bars that the friendly Yelpers have introduced me to over the past few months, Weeds really doesn't qualify in my opinion. My feet didn't stick to the floor, the bathroom was pretty clean and the beer garden only had faint smells of garbage wafting through it periodically. So I am not sure why it is listed on Yelp as a dive bar, unless they are comparing it to some of it's "north of North Ave" counterparts! But that is just part of its charm! read more

So I'm pretty disappointed with this place. At first I liked going here cause the bartenders are nice but the owner really irritated me. We tried to bring our dog into the bar since the owner had his dog in there and we were told NO. We asked if we could instead go to the outside patio with our dog and again he said NO. The owner at this place is a true D-bag. Won't step foot in this place again unless they allow the dog at least on the patio. I mean come on. If Earls, a classy restaurant/bar allows dogs then why can't dumpy weeds allow them. Earls continues to get my business since they know how to take care of the customer. I came here with a group of friends around 1am because they are open until 3am on Saturdays! I also live within a block of this place, so it made sense that I'd eventually make my way into this bar. The bartender was very relaxed and chill and served my group very quickly. I was hoping to order 3 Floyds Zombie Dust, but I found out that you'd have to get there before 8pm, on average, to get a chance at getting some. I settled on 3 Floyds flying tigersault on draft which is also very delicious. The bar has a pool table inside and a nice outdoor porch area that's pretty spacious. Outside was also jumbo jenga and a set of bags boards. I ended up meeting really cool local people while playing bags and I think that's what makes this place really solid; networking with people from the area, whether they work and/or live in the area. It's nice to know I have a cool late night bar with great craft beer on draft so close to my apartment! read more

Great location, cute place. HORRIBLE customer service. The owner needs to go back to school & take a course in business 101 or therapy for his MOMMY issues!! He's RUDE & totally condescending. His Napoleon 5 foot nothing complex makes him a VERY angry Man. My Husband & I were literally chased out of there for not tipping the bartender. But, why tip a bartender when your bill is incorrect? Shots I ordered weren't on the bill, beers my Husband ordered were NOT on our bill. But, other drinks 9 (doubles) 9 beers were on our bill. The bartenders have no idea what they are doing they are literally running into each other behind the bar. Sweating into your drinks & obnoxiously ignoring customers. I had a tab & my Husbands card was asked to pay the bill. USE THE CARD you were handed. This place is so disorganized!!! We thought we were charged twice until the charges dropped OFF the following day from the card I started the tab with. This place is literally a disappointment. This place is a hidden gem and it should be more utilized for its beyond spectacular beer garden. If you are looking for a place to hold a small party/gathering, look no further than Weeds. They have one of the nicest beer gardens in the neighborhood. The staff is so friendly and they will happily set up their outdoor grill for you so that you can buy a ton of stuff at Whole Foods across the street and then come over here and make it. Large patio and reasonably priced bacardi silver automatically gave it points in my book. Friendly, quick bartendresses. I gave up meat months ago but tried the carne asada (free food on fridays) and I hate to admit it but it was tasty! Two really cute dogs wandering around gave it the third star. The fourth star is for letting us be ourselves and the owner not caring, plus being very friendly (and cooking the food himself). Not sure how often I would come in cold weather, but since it is in my hood, I really should come here more often when the patio is in gear. oh, and they have some midwestern game called cornhole, which I think is weird but the holes lit up in the dark so it was cool. ;) read more

Decent prices on beer. I paid $3 for a PBR tallboy, which is much less than a number of other bars in the area charge. They also sell pitchers of cheaper beer and had Goose Island's Pere Jacques on tap. The bartender was quick and they had the Olympics playing on the TV. It feels like a dive bar inside, but the bathrooms are way too nice and the patio is pretty romantic. We started inside and moved outside after our hash. On a Monday night there weren't too many people, so we had the entire outdoor area to ourselves. I didn't know this place existed and I can't wait to come back. read more

It has been a long time since I was in Weeds. I reacquainted myself last night. Things really have not changed too much, except, bras are no longer hanging from the ceiling, and the beer garden is improved (I cannot remember if it was there last time... but if you know me... you know that could be for many reasons!) Really, I consider both of those to be great improvements over my hazy recollections of yesteryear. So, as you can prob. tell from the string of reviews,a bunch of yelpers gathered in the beer garden, and parked ourselves for multiple hours. The owner was fantastic! He alone earns 3 stars! He cooked for us, flank steak (great marinade by the way! YUM) and a rice with chicken, for free, and right when we needed it! He did not mind us taking over, for the most part, the largest open space available, rearranging tables, moving chairs, blocking his grill, being obnoxious... and I got free Tequila!! Love that. I tell no tales, but I do seem to recall the hokey poky at one point- TWO BOYS- who shall remain nameless, but infamous, broke into song and dance demonstrating what it was all about!!! Nice atmosphere, not too hipster, not pretentious at all,not too anything, just come, be yourself, and I would guess before long, everyone will know your name. I am pre-disposed to like Weeds, since I visited with the Yelp Beer Garden Club. That said, I had a great time here last night. Huge backyard patio with lots of tables and seating. They accommodated us easily, along with several other groups. Late in the evening, when we became beery and rowdy, they let us be, unlike other places I could mention. Eclectic crowd. If by "eclectic," you mean, "a wide variety of white people." But young and old, men and women, a handful of fratties, a handful of locals. Not the cookie cutter crowd you run into at a lot of places. Great staff. Quick service at the bar (it was a Friday night, so that may make a difference). Cool management. Free food (again, a Friday thing). And two friendly dogs. How can you lose? Weeds is off my beaten path (15 bucks for a cab ride home -- grrr), but if I lived in the hood, I'd be a regular. read more

My friends and I went to quench our thirsts after a depressing sports loss last night, and hoped to find a small quiet dive bar where we could have a good time. When we walked in, there were 2 people sitting at the bar, a dog behind the counter, and NO bartender. Seriously underrated hidden gem in the middle of a wannabe-suburbia wasteland. Stumbled in here on a Friday after fancy date night, and couldn't have felt more welcome. Cozy joint, pool tables, and a nice, affordable drink selection. The staff is accommodating, but a bit lackadaisical. However, this is a relaxed joint, so it wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't even classify this as a "dive," because it's clean and has a nice drink list. When you need a pick-me-up and happen to be around here, push yourselves past the yuppie, Whole Foods frequenting soccer moms, Joe's on Weed bros, and yoga pants and meander into this joint. This is the quintessential neighborhood bar for a neighborhood desperately in need of one. read more

I like it here, and would give it five stars but for a couple minor issues. 1- the music was too loud. Nothing against loud music, but it just doesn't fit with my expectations for a divey bar. I expect a more chill experience. If you want the music to permeate, buy more speakers and turn the system down, don't blast from one or two. 2- zombie dust was on the chalkboard menu, yet unavailable. Don't do that. Seriously. Soon as that nectar of the fuggin gods runs out, you take an eraser and wipe that sh*t off. A bit on the small side, but not too small. Table and bar spacing was good, and they have a beer garden in the back, so thumbs up for the layout. Service was perfect, and they offer a discount to people who work in the area- all in all I felt very welcomed. Solid beer list, they had maybe 20-30 which ranged from Miller lite to Fin du monde, along with some boozier options including daily specials. I will absolutely be back. read more

Is there a difference between a "dive bar" and just a shitty bar? I think so. Dive bars are charming in that sketchy sort of way. In comparison with all its theme-y peers in the Weed St corridor, I guess Weeds is sort of dive-like but the size of the place (and the fact they have a beer garden) automatically disqualifies it as a dive. It's just a bad-looking corner bar. Dives are also valued because of likeable bartenders or interesting crowds -- the night I went, neither existed. read more

"Don't judge a book by it's cover" is all I can think of. I remember walking by Weeds for the first time a few years ago when I moved to the neighborhood and wondered what was behind the graffiti covered doors, and over-all sort of scary, dilapidated looking wood structure with a fenced-in back porch. Finally made my way inside and discovered the most chill "dive bar" Chicago has to offer. The staff is beyond friendly and accommodating. They have nightly specials (even on the weekends!) Craft cocktails, a good beer list and a great attitude. But I haven't even gotten to the best part: the back patio. You can't tell from the street since it's all fenced-in, but it looks like a beach bar in the back minus the beach. Covered bar area, fire pits, games (jenga, bags, etc.), plants, grass, TVs and grills you can reserve! And the bar is 50-60 years old! Weeds is a "bring your own food" bar, which is perfect for hosting a BBQ without all the clean up you would have at your house. And that's just what I did for a friend's going away party. Reserved the charcoal grill, brought meat, sides and had others sign up to bring more sides, condiments, utensils, etc. Mariano's and Whole Foods is just steps away to get all the food for your heart's content. We had around 15 people come by and every single one of them was impressed with the bar, it's chill vibe and loved the BYO BBQ idea. We got there around 6PM and there was no one there and probably around 8-9PM it started to pick up and by 10PM the bar and back patio was poppin. Honestly, it's amazing to find a nice outdoor space during Summer in Chicago that's not overly packed or taken over by bros. Can't recommend this bar enough! read more

Love it! This dive bar comes complete with super friendly staff, a quirky mix of patrons, moose antlers on the wall, gray duct tape holding up posters in the restrooms, pool tables and a huge beer garden with corn-hole. Honestly, felt like I was in a Hollywood created dive bar on a movie set. Visited on a Friday night and the place was relatively slow with plenty of seating. I will definitely visit again.
