Burton Place is not only the name of a side street in Old Town, but also the name of a place in Old Town that is a bar (conveniently located on Wells Street just off what would be the end of Burton Place). Got all that? I met up with my lovely wife at Burton Place recently for a casual bite and brew prior to attending a comedy show at the nearby Second City. She eyeballed the promo for the $15 sliders and rings special, so I said why not? She took a straw poll including the bartender and a frequent diner, and both agreed that this combo was big enough to serve two. Sure enough, the skewered "tower" of four burger sliders and a bed of onion rings made for a fun dinner treat for us. Bartender doesn't know what Diet Coke is and atmosphere is wack. First off, the TVs barely work in the place because the WiFi sucks so any games you want go watch that are being streamed from a internet service (eg Amazon Prime), don't even bother. I asked for a Diet Coke (as a side drink) and the bartender chick gave me a regular Coke. For us DC fanatics this is a huge no-no. I confirmed it was not a DC with my fellow DC-addict friend, so I asked the bartender for an actual DC. She didn't even bother to help me and then denied me saying I didn't know what I was talking about. Rudest chick ever. Wouldn't even pour another despite not having drank any of it. Finally, the security guard definitely crop-dusted my friends and me because we all smelt it and I'm pretty sure it wasn't Sydney. This one is unconfirmed though.. I have now been to Burton Place twice - once early evening and another time on a weekend afternoon. They were not too busy either time, and I enjoyed the service and cold tap beer both times. What stuck with me is that while it seems to be the type of bar that caters to regulars earlier in the day, nobody is standoffish or territorial. On my last visit, they had a $15 special for a tower of sliders with some onion rings. My husband and I happily split it and felt full. If we were really hungry, it may not have been enough for two people, but it suited us just fine that evening. read more

As others have stated, this is definitely a dive bar. The ambiance of the place is moderately well-kept, but super simple. You're likely to be standing. Their food is dive bar food - tasty but exactly as you expect. They do have som e good beers, and all your standard cocktails. The staff see a ton of idiot young kids in there, so bear with them if they're a little short when you first walk in. Engage them in a brief conversation, be kind and happy and not a drunk kid and they will take care of you. This place is less crowded and less expensive and less pretentious than a lot of other places along the street here. Come and check it out. I knew Burton Place was a dive bar but I came here last Friday night after Pour House closed and it was actually more than I expected. There is 3 different floors. First was a dive bar, second floor had a DJ playing mostly EDM music, third floor didn't have a DJ but was playing music. Bars on all levels. I just walked out my house and headed towards Wells and walked past then walked in this spot. It's a neighborhood bar that I felt like I had been coming to for 35yrs! Pretty neat little place in old chicago. This isn't definitely a fancy place on wells st but definitely a local hangout place. There are definitely no lines outside so that's a plus. They have like a dozen beers on tap and all sorts of liquor. Also the drinks are really cheap. They serve mostly bar food and it was great for the price. The staff was friendly and professional. I usually come to Burton Place when all the other bars on Old Town's infamous block close at 2am. Burton Place is open super late, they actually have more of an open space upstairs for dancing. Until they open the upstairs, the downstairs is 35% walking space and 65% bar... It is always so crowded and there are only two bartenders that are soooo hard to flag down. The drinks are cheap but they taste off and I usually stick to the first one all night. Grrrr. My friend was having a wristband party for his birthday on the upstairs floors (part of the proceeds to charity). The staff wouldn't let me upstairs without buying a wristband. I didn't want to buy a wristband because I couldn't stay long and didn't intend to drink (maybe one or two at most). This is a great dive bar to hit up after a sports game or at the end of your night out. You will not find a better deal on appetizers on Wells Street. For $14, we ordered mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fries, and tater tots. They were also happy to accommodate our party of 14 on late notice. TVs all over to catch any game going on. They do have daily food specials and overall their food is relatively affordable and not bad. I'm talking less than $10. You will have fun, so long as you take Burton Place for what it is. Similar to a lot of the places on Division (but with bomb food), Burton Place can be a hit or miss shit show on the weekends. The crowd tends to be, well..drunk. Actually, plastered is a better word. And if you're showing up here after midnight, you better be too. Somebody please get me a list of the 4 am bars in this town so that I don't keep going to them and expecting someone to throw me out at a reasonable hour instead of looking at my watch and realizing that it is almost 4am!!!! Since no such list exists- I am starting my own list and Burton's is going at the top of the watch out list!! This neighborhood spot is fun but it's one of those places where you lose track of time! There are three levels at this bar with the main bar being on the first floor and pool tables upstairs. Service was quick at the main bar and you can order food until 3 am. There are a bunch of TV's playing a variety of games and the music blaring covers a wide range of genres. This is also a bar of many faces. Some that you hope to run into again and some (after the wee hours kick in) that you hope you never see again. So those faces that I'd like to run into again are of the normal people who were respectful, fun and just hanging out buying us beers, regaling us with funny stories and playing bar games. BTW- I now know that I suck at digital golf! Thank you very much! The other faces were of the drunk idiots who had to have been the strangest, most perverse men on the planet that hit on my friend and I with lines that repulsed versus enticed. Who were falling down, but still getting up and drinking more shots. Who blew smoke in our faces while they stumbled through their repertoire of lines. Who didn't believe that the words "Go away" were meant for them. Funny- it took a group of New Yorkers in celebrating a friend's birthday to set the world right and to banish the idiots from the place so that harmony could once again reign. BUT... the thing that is WRONG with this place is their inconsistent bartenders. 2 men were behind the bar. I ordered my vodka soda from one of them (nothing fancy, just well vodka) and was charged $10. To me, that's pretty over-priced for a "well" vodka soda, but whatever, I'm going to pay what he asked. Ah yes Burton Place, the place that's dead until about 2am or so because Suite Lounge is right across the street and Burton's stays open real late with a wide selection beers and a kitchen that stays late. The guys bring the food out from the back which I never see and on weekends all three floors are open and sometimes, if you're lucky the second floor bathroom will start to leak and water will start falling from the ceiling of the second floor. I've threatened to kill my best friend, done the 3 Stooges' eye poke gag-I have the photos to prove it! and generally always have a good time there. Burtons is one of those great dives that you're kind of surprised to see on Wells Street. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the pretentious bars surrounding it. The staff is friendly and they have live music Thursday nights at 11. There's always a lively crowd and they have their fair share of regulars too. That's how you know it's a great dive. Drinks are fairly cheap and they also have an upstairs that's open on the weekends. I love this place and I hope they stay here for many more years to come! read more

I was here with a friend on a late Monday night (4th of July weekend). It is definitely a dive bar with 2 floors (or at least I only remember 2 floors), where the top floor has slightly more standing space. Both floors have bars. If I remember correctly, the kitchen here is open pretty late, which is a huge positive for anyone getting hungry. Additionally, this bar is open VERY late, so if you're not done partying in Old Town, just come here to finish off your night. I did not have any food, so I can't comment on it. I ordered a beer and it was served in a plastic cup. I usually look a little down upon bars that serve beer or drinks in cups, but with how crowded this place was, it probably saves the bar from having glass accidentally being bumped and shattering. Nothing was special about the service, but I did not have a bad experience either. The overall crowd seemed to be middle 20s and it had a very college-like vibe.
