A classic neighborhood gem. Really love the atmosphere of this place, especially on the patio during happy hour. Always friendly people, good food, and great drinks. One of my favorite spots all year around.

Tucked right in downtown Chicago, this spot surprised me in the best way. I stopped in for what I thought would be a casual drink and snack, but it ended up being an upscale craft beer experience without the attitude. The beer list is outstanding -- thoughtful selections, rotating taps, and the kind of variety that makes you want to try "just one more." Food-wise, I kept it simple: Crispy wings that actually came out crispy (a win in itself). Hand-cut fries done right -- golden, hot, and lightly seasoned. And the Brussels sprouts? Let's just say they could convert the biggest sprout skeptic. Savory, lightly charred, and elevated without being overly fancy. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed but polished, and the whole experience felt like the sweet spot between casual hangout and elevated dining. Perfect for a post-work drink, catching up with friends, or just treating yourself to quality without the fuss.

Totally love this place. Staff are great with service and this night was packed. Great selection of draft. Not much choices for stouts/porters but still have good choices, especially the hazelnut fudge from Founders. There's a lot of TV for viewing your favorite team. Place is not that big but they have a 2nd floor for accommodation. They also have outdoor seating in warm weather. Our party of 7 were so glad we found this place.

Really glad I found this place! Had great vibes, waiter was really friendly, and his recommended blood orange Italian soda was superb -- I would highly suggest getting it especially for summer! I also got the buttermilk fried chicken (only available Friday to Sundays) and it was great. Crispy and huge serving size!

When I visited Chicago last month, I visited Centennial Beer because my husband and I were looking for a craft beer spot. The beer menu is extensive and impressive! There were so many options to chose from. They even had local St. Louis beers on tap! The food was decent but we were not really there for the food. We shared some bbq wings and fries and the fries were more of the showstopper for us. I love the whole vibe of this spot. It's very moody and gastropub like. Since it's in the city, parking is not easy but we circled a bit and eventually found one. I would for sure go here again on my next visit to Chicago.

Im visiting Chicago for completely covert reasons I can never disclose despite any threat of any type or under any vector whatsoever. Its hard work so I searched yelp today for at least an hour for fall off the bones ribs. I was not disappointed...by my research results. Glorious ...yes...glorious ribs that fall off the bone. I was planning on the short ribs but my server convinced me otherwise based on fall off the bone ish ness. How fall off the bone-ish-ness? Enough that if you gently use your fork and knife you can extract each bone with the least amount of pressure possible. Could you extract toothpicks from mashed potatoes with fork and knife coordination? Similar. I saw an interview with a champion smoked ribs guy one time and he said competions don't reward the most fall off the bonish ness --he said, "that only occurs in restaurants." So you get deducted in competion for the ribs served here but those judges are spoiled from eating great ribs every few days and they have great teeth. The server team was professional and have good teamwork. The bar itself has a good Chicago vibe. Sort of a compression of coolness into an efficient space. Going back to the ribs, if the public understood the ribs here, you wouldn't be able to get into this place. One reason I know this is bc no less than 4 members of the staff asked me how I like the ribs. They know. Don't be a fool and squander your quest for excellent ribs. I've been around the city a time or two looking for great ribs. (Actually it's not even my top food but when I have a craving...). Actually, I like ribs enough to know that you call the restaurant in the early afternoon to confirm whether they ever run out of ribs. Think about that. So yes, I called. Outcome was favorable so here I am. I'm not saying these are going to be the best ribs of your life but I will say these are pretty close.

The Beer Braised Short Rib was one of the best meat dishes I've had at a restaurant. The meat just fell apart it was so tender and was bursting with flavor. The restaurant was kind enough to let me sub out the mashed potatoes for Mac and cheese which was also delicious. The beer cheese was a little disappointing because it didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked. The deconstructed carrot cake was also a little disappointing. It's an interesting idea but it didn't have enough frosting to make it work. You can get away with that in cake form, but it was crumbs in a glass and they would just fall everywhere because there wasn't enough to hold it together. The service was very good. Despite it being really busy, they were quick about getting our order and bring the food. The restaurant itself is nice. It has that homey pub vibe but still feels like a more upscale restaurant. Despite the many people, it wasn't so loud that it was hard to have a conversation. All in all, it was a very good experience!

Chicken pot pie - classic and comforting! $16

For the pot pie alone. I don't drink beer and prefer my carbs in bread/pastries/shortcrust form, but Sarju S. Is a regular here for the beer selection here (he's a hazy IPA fan) and Cheryll A. said her Moscow mule was the best she's ever had. A perfect ending to a windy night in Chicago!

The mushroom and kale pie was nice and cheesy and the rocking vegan pie was more savoury, with a variety of vegetables and chickpeas as stuffing. The crust was neither too soft nor too crunchy. The highlight of the meal was the curry chips: potato wedges lightly fried with masala and curry leaves. The dipping sauce that came with the chips reminded me of tikka masala sauce, and paired beautifully with the chips. Dessert was toffee pudding: the caramel sauce that came with the pudding was delectable - the pudding itself was excellent and not overly sweet. We tried a variety of NA beers, and I was pleased with how many options they had. Service was quick, and we were well looked after. The ambiance is warm, with dim-ish lighting and a lot of dark wood. The restrooms were gorgeous - special shoutout to the lovely floral wallpaper. Overall, I highly recommend Pleasant House - the vibe is chill and understated and the food is stellar.

The sausage was very tasty, the breading on the outside was incredibly crisp, light, and the egg inside was cooked well. Both the steak pie and the chicken pie were very good. The chicken pie I think really needed the chutney that you can get separately. But that made it so much better and made it my preferred pie. The steak and ale pie was better than the chicken pie as a standalone, but needed a bit more gravy I think to elevate it. Sticky toffee pudding again was delicious. Surprisingly light, not overly dense so I was glad it came with the custard which was very flavorful. Overall, will definitely return!

I entered the place on a Wednesday night and it wasn't busy at all. They ave a security guard posted at the door for reasons unknown to me but raised an eyebrow. The host greeted and seated me right away. I was seated at a booth that had lots of crumbs on the seats which says to me you're need retrained at cleaning especially since the place was slow. The server was very nice and helpful but I didn't get his name unfortunately. I iordered the half slab of ribs and 1/4 chicken with side of green beans which also came with corn on cob and Cole slaw. I also had a slice of apple pie to go. Everything came out pretty quick and temp was good. Sorry no pics this time though but it resembles what others have posted. So let me just jump right in on the ribs. They were ABSOLUTELY no where to being on a top 10 list of ribs so not sure where or who gave them the title of (best) but it definitely falls in the category of false advertisement. They were pretty tough and flavor was average at best. The chicken was moist and pretty good as were all the sides. The best part for me was the apple pie. Definitely changed my mood after the disappointment of the ribs. I'm not condemning this place but I can't recommend it either based on the misleading rib statement so proceed with caution!

Amazing that fun isn't always beers and chugging. The food is actually good and can be talked about in reviews because some people actually come here to eat, which tells you how they actually have a kitchen. Believe everything is good here but we came for the beers of course. It's certainly the main product made here so why wouldn't it be important. They make more than you can believe which is impressive because there's all kinds of crowds who pass through. For sure everyone wants beer. It's $6 a pint at happy hour. Pretty great for craft beers compared to lots of places it seems. Best one we got was the Bucket Hat. This is a Belgian style witbier. Has notes of bubble gum, coriander, and orange. The food isn't an afterthought so get some of that. It's about $18 for a burger. Vegans have options. Certainly one of these is the Veggie Burger. This is an amazing thing with a spinach patty topped with chipotle tomato marmalade, cremini mushrooms, mixed greens, pickled red onions, and sweet potatoes. All on a fluffy ciabatta bun. The rest of the menu contains meaty stuff. For sure it feels like a place for the hipsters but it's pretty great for anyone. It's located at the intersection of Jackson and Wabash close to lots of fun. The brewery has food that's better than expected but many other things about this kind of stuff are typical.

Pro Tip: if you can tolerate a large quantity of fish, visit on a Wednesday for their AYCE Fish & Chips. I've had many hum drum AYCE dinners that are drab and only fill you up. Not this one. It's a great meal and a great deal. The Shepherd's Pie was fabulous, as was the Bangers and Mash. They've created a Haggis Burger that has to appease Americans, yet, still be haggis. A tall order since most would hate "true" haggis. Fear not, it's not your grandfather's haggis, it is a tasty burger. The fries were great but I'd recommend the Tattie Skins. We tasted so many different malts it was hard to pick a favourite. No foolin' they had island malts, highland malts, speyside and even a couple from the lowlands. Easy to spend over two hours in this public house. We did. Can't wait to get back to this town. This is a must! 02/26

After we sat down, our server took her sweet time getting to us and was largely absent the entire visit while the servers for the others tables were attentive and present as I've come to expect. We started with the Crispy Brussels and Burrata Toast which was an amazing and fun combination of flavors textures with the sherry glaze and pickled onions providing a perfect counter to the richness of the cheese. Our second course was the Gage Caesar which we've had before and have enjoyed sharing multiple times, but this time the lettuce was full of grit as if the prep chef did not even bother washing the lettuce. The server never came by to check on us so I had to wave the manager to complain about the salad. The server also never checked to see if we wanted refills on our cocktails so we placed our orders with the manager. The final dish was the venison burger which was perfectly cooked and seasoned if you like venison, which I do so we enjoyed that greatly. The condiments that came with it were perfectly matched to balance the game of the meat and the fries were perfect as usual! The server then FINALLY got more involved with our dinner and was predictably perky and present at the end, something that always irks me when they have been otherwise absent for the meal. The ONLY reason they are getting 3 stars instead of less for this visit was the flavor of the food and the response of the manager in dealing with the lack of service (and the gritty salad). I would give the initial server a zero if I could.
