We needed a classic Irish pub to have a pint on St. Pattys Day. Dive Bar yes but staff was great. Service was fast and the beer was cold. Price was right because my colleague was buying drinks.

Love this place. One of Chicago's SOLID Irish Bars... With A BURGER .. To DIE For.. please believe me. I was and have been quite impressed each and every time I've been here. Super nice servers. Great BEER selection (and they will let you sample a beer if you are looking for something new) Make you way to this Chicago GEM

Sometimes, you just need a dive bar for a cheap drink and some fun with friends. In a neighborhood with plenty of upscale options, Shamrock Club may be the unpretentious, hole-in-the-wall you want. This is the sort of place that wraps a bottle of liquor to block the label and promotes "$3 Mystery Shots." It's also the kind of place that attracts guests that think it's funny to write homophobic pejoratives on the faces of people appearing in ads in the bathroom. (I don't find it funny; I find it immature and unwelcoming, and I prefer bars that clean up that sort of offensive graffiti.) If you want a clean bar with great drinks, this won't be your style. If you want a casual, dingy place lit mostly with neon beer signs where you can get drunk cheap, this is probably right up your alley.

A co-worker and I decide to go out for Happy Hour after work. It's Friday and we worked all week. What better way to celebrate than happy hour. SC is located right around the corner from where we work. We left work and was ready to enjoy the start of our weekend. The place is pretty nice inside. A pool table located in the back of the bar. The atmosphere started off chilled and had a relaxing vibe. The customers were seated at every other tables. We were like ok cool SC is following the guidelines for open bar. We placed our order a nice glass of chill wine. The music was enjoyable and there weren't that many people. The host came over with a basket of fresh hot popcorn. Yummy. We were in a midst of our conversation. When a group of 15 young adults came into the bar. They were all surrounding the bar area. Some were not wearing mask. To my surprise the owner/manager or whomever didn't seem to even care. That was our cue to pay our bill and get out of dodge. We couldn't believe how this didn't seem to be an issue for the manager. Poor judgement call. I won't be returning here. What started off as a nice relaxing after work happy hour turn sour real quick. Just to make a few extra bucks isn't worth risking people's life.

I saw this tiny pub out the window of my car while my roommate and I were haplessly trying to find parking near our friend's hotel and knew that visiting Shamrock Club was far more important than seeing Mari. Who would've thought there'd be a small, hole in the wall, reasonably priced pub in the typically upscale river north? While the service took a very (very) long time because there was one person working the bar and kitchen, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. The fried mushrooms and zucchini sticks hit the spot and the selection of Guinness and local brews wasn't bad. I left feeling very midwestern and very full.

It's a reasonably-priced busy dive bar in the heart of Chicago. I asked the bartender if she had a beer + shot deal and she said "no, but you can order a beer and shot." And so we did! Noise level is fairly high, thanks to a lively crowd plus a jukebox. They don't normally serve food but I think are fine with customers bringing in your own food, and you can also place an order from a nearby restaurant (I don't recall which one). And yes, it's cash only so bring some money if you don't want to pay ATM fees! 4 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. I like bars that allow customers to bring (or order) their own food - it allows for all diets! The one thing I'd like to see is more beer on tap - even just one good rotating local beer (e.g., Goose Island). Draft beer has smaller environmental footprints compared to bottled or canned.

After a quick ID check at the door, the bouncer let us know it's cash only (thankfully we came prepared). From the moment we walked in, dim lighting, loud music, and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds gave the vibe of a full-on frat party, but not in a bad way. It's chaotic, energetic, and unapologetically no-frills. There's even a self-serve cooler with drink prices clearly listed underneath. I grabbed a Sapporo Premium, brought it to the counter, and our friendly bartender broke our change and offered a chilled glass to pour it into. Simple and efficient. That said, it was loud, so loud that even whispering-distance conversations were a struggle. The space is small, seating is limited, and since we couldn't snag a spot, we ended up leaving shortly after finishing our drinks. This feels like a better weekday hang than a packed weekend night. Still, if you're looking for a classic, gritty, no-frills dive experience, Rossi's delivers exactly that.

I realize it's not the simplest shot to make. The gray-haired bartender refused as it was too much work for one shot. Fair enough, I said I'd get two. He said making fewer than four was "a pain in the ass" and he wouldn't do it. Never mind then! Paid, tipped, and started to leave. Didn't want to interrupt the guys impersonation of a bartender for too long. I did mention it to the door staff as I was leaving and they had a problem too. Told me "yeah he's 100% right". Whatever! If the rude service isn't enough, maybe you'll like the copaganda around the bar. I recommend pretty much anywhere else.

While we were waiting for our drinks, he was arguing with two Hispanic men right next to us--for quite a while. When he finally served our drinks, he only brought one, forgetting my fiancé's order. We tried to be patient, but we had an appointment to get to. My fiancé politely said, "Excuse me, I didn't get my drink," and the bartender snapped back, "You didn't order a drink." When my fiancé clarified, the bartender doubled down and said, "No, you didn't, and if you have a problem, you can leave too." At that point, the two men walked out, and we should have, too. Needless to say, this place is a hard pass. Cringe vibes, rude staff, and no sense of customer service. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Surprised this place is still in business given the similar reviews I've seen. Old man needs therapy.

So I visited it in her stead (another benefit of subscribing to AfterActionReport.info). Quite simply the best maintained dive bar I have ever had the pleasure of drinking in and an AAR Must Drink. Most dive bars have a fair amount of seed and are in need of some repair, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not this place, as the spotless tile floor was completely intact, all the swivel barstools (each branded "Richard's Bar" across the back) still swiveled, and the tin ceiling stunning. It's coming up on a hundred years, but the entire joint has been as lovingly cared for as it is cleaned daily. The place has a slight smell of cigarettes. When I mentioned to Joe the bartender, that "I didn't think you could still legally smoke in a bar in this country." He replied "You can't, but people do," as he placed an ashtray next to my beer.
