The Kerryman has a special place in my heart. I've been here multiple times and genuinely haven't had one bad thing. The Irish Cheddar burger is probably my favorite. It's a half-pound burger with Irish cheddar and Irish bacon and it's SO good. It's $19 and comes with a side, so honestly pretty reasonable for River North. The giant pretzel is another must. It's $15 and comes with cheese sauce, bacon jam and mustard. Get it for the table and dunk away lol. The sliders are also really good. And this is where I had my first Guinness! I was skeptical but it did not disappoint. The ambiance is half the reason I love Kerryman though. Their patio is amazing in the summer with all the flowers outside, but if you really want the full experience, go when there's a big football/soccer match on. It gets PACKED and I've seen the line go out the door, but that's part of the fun. Everyone is watching the game, drinking Guinness and yelling at the TVs. It's such a good time. Service has always been good when I've gone, even when they're slammed. Definitely one of my River North favorites and somewhere I keep coming back to. Solid place to grab a beer and/or dinner. Downstairs bartender was friendly as was the hostess when I walked in. There were plenty of servers for a slow Sunday night. Neat setup with another full bar upstairs and tons of booths. I would like to see what it's like as a social spot on a Saturday night. There are TVs but it's not quite a sports bar. We piped in here for a quick drink. Our local coworkers took us here since she's been here before. They have two levels of bars and seating so lots of space to come and grab a quick drink. They had great bar seats and a good drink selection. They had TV's so you can check out the game and tons of tables. read more

My husband I came here for dinner on a beautiful Sunday night! We got to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the sights and sounds of our amazing city. For an appetizer we shared the giant pretzel. The ambiance is an Irish pub. We were there around 4pm on a Wednesday and the place was lively. There was a huge group soon as you walked in having a drink together. They also had the big soccer game on. Most of the booths were taken. We got one of the last booths and we were greeted soon as we sat down and our order was taken. The service here is prompt and friendly, and the restaurant is a nice dimly lit, cozy place. The live Irish music on Sundays 5-7pm is incredible, and I want to go back for more. The food is also amazing. The soft pretzel is so high quality and definitely not at all like a microwave one, and the cheese sauce it comes with is insane, and not spicy. Stopped in Saturday night for some football and beers. This is our second stop of the evening. The upstairs was packed, but were you able to get a small table in the downstairs bar area. Service was very good and the beers were cold and fresh. For food, we just ordered a pretzel with some dips with it. The bacon jam was fantastic. We highly enjoyed our experience at the kerryman! Made a reservation for a group of six in advanced online and added on the toddler when we arrived. The entire building is very beautiful with multiple floors differentiating bar from restaurant area. Our Sunday server was super sweet and she was incredibly attentive with us and accommodating with the toddler. Better yet the food was delicious! Finally an Irish owned Pub with Irish staff!! We cozied up to the bar in The Kerryman and immediately felt right at home. What a great spot and so lovely to hear the accents of home from behind the bar. It's a beautifully decorated space and the outdoor view is very enticing. It's a gorgeous building. We didn't have the chance to have any food here unfortunately but hopefully we will return before the end of our trip. I met a couple I know from Michigan there after work. Never been here before. They have outdoor seating and it's near public transportation. We ate inside and I had fish and chips. It was ok to good. They claim to have gluten-free but they do not. They have a gluten-free menu, but they also say pretty much 100% cross contamination. This is not how gluten-free works! I ended up with one option - tomato soup. This would have been fine but it was the worst attempt at soup ever. No tomato flavor and odd white chunks throughout. I had 3 bites and was done, yuck! We ended up here on Cinco De Mayo after every Mexican place in Chicago was closing early. The Kerryman has potential however the food was a waste of calories. The servers were all nice and very helpful but the food is over priced and bland at best. The cheese for the pretzel tasted as if it were a prepackaged cheese soup from the grocery store. The bacon jam was disappointing and the mustard was a bit much. The French fries looked delicious but after biting in them I quickly learned they were undercooked. I know some of the other reviews speak highly about this place. We were visiting from out of state and never been to Chicago before. Maybe the food is better on other days.
