The waiter for breakfast time (Asian male) is inattentive and slow to provide service. My family and I stayed at the hotel and 3 days in a row his service for breakfast time was extremely poor. This is to the point that on one day, we had a 1 hour time limit for breakfast, which is pretty standard I'd say, but the seating alone took 15 minutes and taking food order took another 15. We ended up having 10 minutes to eat on a one hour time allowance. Unfortunately cannot recommend if staying at the hotel due to poor timing and bad service. read more

I travel for work and eat at a lot of restaurants throughout the country. Our company is currently not traveling and I'm eating more locally and was very impressed with the service and equally impressed with the quality of the food. For apps, we ordered the calamari and it was cooked masterfully as it was crisp, not oily, and had great seasoning as it hit multiple notes throughout the bite. The wings impressed our very picky daughter and I do not eat wings but had to have a few given her review of them. For dinner we had the half chicken and braised lamb shank. I'm staying at the hotel attached to the Current in the midst of this pandemic, and was starving so just came down for a snack and a drink. Staff was so so sweet--admitted they'd JUST reopened and were still familiarizing themselves with the new menu but friendly and talkative and made recommendations and even people-watched with me with things were slow.. Katie was my server. They also laughed at my jokes, which I'm pretty sure they felt obligated to do, but nonetheless this also made me happy. So I ordered the cheese and charcuterie board--and let me tell you, I will dream about this for the rest of my life. I wish I thought to take a picture before I consumed everything, but too late. The attached picture is just the remnants. A small toasted loaf, dates, small dill pickles hung out on one plate. The main plate had two different thin cuts of meat rolled up and three distinct types of cheeses. Also don't ask me what kind they were, because I couldn't tell you, but they were amazing and one was sharp and one was creamy and one was a little sweet and they all made me very happy! And then it came with three different toppings. An actual piece of honeycomb, which was amazing and probably pissed off a lot of bees, and two types of spicy/savory sweet jellies. So I just started exploring and mixing the sharp cheese with the sweet honey and the soft bread with a slice of the thin cut meat...The people walking by looked at me weird when they heard me moaning, but it was totally worth it. My drink was refilled before I even needed to ask, Katie came by several times to check on me and I tried to share a piece of the meat with a miniature dachshund wandering past but he wisely looked askance of the strange lady trying to bribe him with meat in exchange for pets (hey--it works for my husband--dont judge. My sister and bro-in-law met us there. David Anthony was our server, and he was also delightful. He was very attentive and had a fun personality. I went with the Current omelet with egg whites and tomato, but also tried my husband's Power smoothie. With all of the eating we were doing that weekend, it felt great to eat some light and healthy food! The others had a kale omelet and a breakfast sandwich... everyone was pleased with their food, which fueled us all up to go out into the cold and the rest of the day! This is not a great restaurant. As we drove past all of these wonderful downtown spots, I was a little nervous when I was told we'd be eating at the hotel restaurant. It's a corporate hotel restaurant and I think all the protein was frozen. The seared ahi tuna was for sure. We had a larger party of 16 and the place is short staffed. It took 45 minutes for cold appetizers to arrive. Then it took another 45 minutes for the entrees to start coming out...one at a time. Literally one or two at a time every 4 or 5 minutes. It took them 25 minutes to serve everyone. Two people at the table got the chicken. Everything on the plate was covered in a flavorless oil. Two people got the seafood spaghetti. It was sad. The 10 or 12 shrimp were 70-80/lb size. The tiny kind you see in hot and sour soup. The scallops were equally as tiny. I didn't know scallops came that small. Almost the same diameter as the pasta. A normal scallop is an inch or two across. These were 1 centimeter at the most. Try to picture how small that is. Then they douse the plate in dried parsley. My wife had so much on her plate that she blew it off onto the table. The bright side is that they know how to make an okay hamburger and fries (with more parsley) for $18. I wished I had ordered the burger. It's the definition of a hotel restaurant. Mediocre frozen food with minimal staff training in the dining room. And a bar full of out of towners. There are SO many better places within 1 block of this mess. read more

This restaurant is located inside the spacious, nicely decorated W Lakeshore. I am a SPG fan, so I often stay at their hotel. However, their food is never particularly good. I ended up eating here because I was sick and too lazy to go elsewhere. I sat at the bar which had waitresses who are half interested in amending to your needs. It took her 5 minutes to give me a menu. The waitress was nice to other people, though. Chit chat all the way, too chitty chatty she forgot that there are other customers who needs to put in their order. I ordered the following: 1) Corn soup (10/10) - although it is very small and pricy, I really enjoyed this warm, creamy soup. There are 2 pieces of avocado in it and some sour tasting sauce on top which gives it a particular taste that wasn't took bad. I'de recommend this dish. 2) Filet Mignon (4/10) - Medium rare- came out medium, steak was very tough, over cooked, and too salty. I couldn't taste anything else other than salt. There were 5 big pieces of asparagus. I wouldn't recommend this dish. Over all, the experience was alright but the service was just nasty. Ambience - it was around 5:40-6 and it was SOOO noisy, generally because of the consultants/business men that were there trying to network. Gave me a headache. I had burrata on a wedge of butter lettuce, lamb spidini (sp?), a salsiccia pizza and the conchiglie pasta. My guest for the evening had the paccheri with lamb ragu. Our meal was paired with a nebbiolo wine. What I liked about this restaurant: It's straight forward, honest food. Lots of locally sourced, good ingredients. Pasta that is made in house, served al dente and which holds up to the sauce. I bought the small plate of pasta and it was still a big portion. The fonduta sauce was smooth and creamy and had just a hint of smokiness to it. The peas were firm to the bite. The flavors are well balanced. Plus,the staff is very attentive. Their wine list is long and thoughtful with wines to suit any taste. I also very much appreciated that, despite the marble floors and glass walls, the restaurant isn't overly loud. You can have a conversation in your normal speaking voice. I also liked the lighting, which is not quite mood lighting but is dimmed enough that the atmosphere is relaxing. I don't live in Chicago but when I come back I will gladly come back to Current. I was able to watch and epic thunder and lightening display over the lake from the dry comfort of my seat inside. I got your standard microwavable waffles with a spoonful of not-table-thawed butter and something that looked like really old (translate: gross) cherry preserves. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the jam that failed to live up to the establishment's namesake. The decor was stuck in the 90s, the service was lackluster, and I don't believe the menu has been updated in a decade (not even when it's no longer accurate...). Steer clear, folks. We stayed at The W Lake Shore this past weekend when we were in Chicago and our first night there. Everything we ordered was amazing. We started with the meatball appetizer which was super delicious although you may want to get two orders just because they were so good, they will go quickly. My dinning companion had the Lobster spaghetti which was very filling and quite a large portion. I ordered the prime ribeye which also worth the price on the menu. Dined at Current on New Year's Eve with our family of seven adults and two small children. We were guests of the W and are Starwood Preferred Gold. We had made a dinner reservation several weeks in advance. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The only glitch was a refusal to seat our party by the windows on Lake Shore Dr. We had called the restaurant a couple of hours before our ressie, and were told it would be no problem. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess told us they would be unable, and that whoever we talked to on the phone was in error. While we were disappointed, we were seated at a lovely table in the middle of the room. FYI: This restaurant is great for small kids, as it is quite energetic, and any noise the kids make will not be noticed by other guests. The wait staff was excellent. Drink, appetizer, and dinner orders were delivered at the appropriate interval. Everyone enjoyed the food. There was an extensive chef's special menu for NYE, and most everyone in our group ordered from that menu. In comparison, last NYE we stayed at the Sheraton Chicago, and had dinner at Shula's restaurant in that hotel. Our meal at Current was far superior in all ways, and cost hundreds of $$ less than Shula's for the same group. All members of our group also went down to Current the next morning for breakfast, and everyone raved about their breakfast food. Again, service was solid, and prices were reasonable. We've hosted our family at different hotels in the city of Chicago on NYE for several years. We can unequivocally state that the W hotel and Current was our best experience so far. read more

I came here because i was tired and did not want to go far and based on the menu here on Yelp, it sounded good. they had almost nothing that was listed on Yelp. The salad had a large portion of lobster, but it had very little taste. The salad without the lobster was good, hence the 3 stars (and service). Came in for Thanksgiving dinner and had a really wonderful time with my family! They had a Thanksgiving food menu AND allowed guests to order off their regular menu as well... I thought that was nice. We made a reservation (which I would recommend if you are planning to eat here for dinner) and the receptionist was very friendly. When we arrived, we had to walk through the lobby of the hotel before we reached the restaurant. It was super cute and super trendy. I was totally loving the vibe. We were seated quickly. I will say the tables are quiet close to each other, which made the dining experience slightly uncomfortable (i.e., overhearing our neighbors conversations, getting up to use the restrooms were awkward, etc.) We ended up not ordering any of the items off the Thanksgiving menu (besides the dessert items). Here is the food summary: APPS- The calamari and zucchini frittis were delicious. MAINS- The sausage pizza was good. The truffled mac and cheese was the BEST. The salmon was good, but nothing special...and the lamb pasta dish was not my favorite. DESSERT- Apple pie was too sweet for me but the cookie cheesecake was perfection. DRINKS- They had the vandermill ginger peach which is one of my favorites! A glass Riesling was definitely overly pricey (huge surprise when I got the bill)- not sure if I'd order that again. Overall, the food was good. The ambiance was great. My company was awesome. The only thing that was somewhat subpar was the waiter's attitude. He just seemed a little snappy and a little too quick. So, this review will come off as a bit topsy turvy as it encompasses two separate dinning events over a holiday weekend but here goes. Friday night we wandered in and ordered appetizers, drinks and dinners. The bartender was awesome and the food was absolutely wonderful, I had the special which had the homemade pasta. It was perfect. We decided to go back Sunday night, this time there was 6 of us. I wanted the homemade pasta but in the vodka sauce this time and was assured that was fine. All 6 meals came out but mine was incorrect by a lot so they took it back. Well, cut to one hour waiting for the meal and the bartender and chef having a shouting match about my order and add hour to being assured it's in the process of being made, at the beginning of our three being told they just closed down the kitchen so unfortunately we don't have your meal. Lesson learned, don't get in the middle of a bartender and chef trying to figure out who has more power. read more
