Made a reservation on saturday after watching Hamilton. The restaurant is a nice pub-type place with comfortable seating. We were taken to a nice booth and had a lovely server. I love savory pies and saw they had an option for pie flight so was very excited to give that a try. We were pretty hungry so my wife got the Deluxe Burger and I got both the Wee Pie Flight + The Sunday Roast. Im used to stronger spice foods so im not going to take any points away for that. I do wish they had a little more kick though. The pies all came out nice and hot. Each one was unique and delicious. My lovely wife and I have enjoyed the Happy Hour noshing at the Elephant & Castle located at Wabash and Lake. It's a convenient location for us to meet up for a date night in the area (museum? show?). The Happy Hour time slot is generous (Monday through Fridays from 3 to 6PM), and the "share plates" we've tried are tasty and filling. The HH menu lists five share plates options, but we have always gone for the trio of mini-sausage rolls, fried pickles, and roasted tomato with whipped feta. My love especially craves the tomato-feta combo, served with grilled slices of baguette. The sausage rolls are tasty bites of meaty goodness wrapped in puff pastry, and the cup of curry ketchup makes for good "gravy" for the sausage. Fried pickles - ya gotta love 'em, though they can be a bit salty. These three apps make for a reasonably filling meal along with a beer or two, and the crowd is usually not that stifling during the HH hours. Service is pleasant and efficient, and we usually get a table by the window to enjoy the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago. Note that the loos are located downstairs. read more

We stopped in for a drink one weeknight and sat at the bar. They have a large selection of beer and all the normal spirits. The venue is hype, with a British pub look and feel. Happy hour is great here. The roasted tomatoes and whipped feta are so amazing. The grilled baguette slices the dish is served with are outstanding. I also really like the mini sausage rolls, wrapped with a tasty puffed pastry. Service is always fast, and I appreciate all of the wall decor that is fun to look at. The place is never too loud, so conversation is always flowing in a vibrant atmosphere. I think they do not update the website as far as what discount drafts are available during happy hour, but that's ok. Drinks took a bit and our waiter tried to give us drinks that didn't belong to our table but other than that no complaints. My partner really enjoyed his Wee Pie Flight. This is a British pub style restaurant, so what can you really expect? I don't think the UK is known to have particularly exquisite cuisine, and that's sort of what you have to expect here. Very standard dish and hard to mess up. I would've liked the mashed potatoes to have not had large lumps, personally, but to each their own, I suppose. Finding a solid breakfast option in Chicago can be tricky... the great places have long lines and the mediocre places are... well, mediocre. Every once in a while, one might luck out by finding a diamond in the rough. Elephant and Castle is a diamond in plain sight. The British style of the restaurant/pub is charming and provides a fun atmosphere for eating while watching a football match (not the Americanized egg-hand game of course, but the game of soccer - my group enjoyed a live match of Manchester City v Manchester United while we were there). And then there is the food and drink itself. Starting with a delicious cup of coffee and pineapple juice, our group enjoyed a delicious combination of eggs, breakfast potatoes, and bangers (mildly seasoned sausages). I had the joy of enjoying a sandwich on English muffin with a banger patty, egg, gooey cheese, and some mild chipotle sauce and it was absolutely delightful. E & C will now retain a place in my mind not just as a backup plan for breakfast, but as a delicious choice amongst others. It wasn't the servers fault they were just trying to keep their head above water. It took equally as long to get our food. A good fish and chips has a light flaky texture and soft flaky wonderful fish meat. Not here, they may have had it once but don't order it even though waitress said excellent choice, I guess she has not tried at other Irish pubs or cities like Boston or even here in Houston. He warmed up to me later when others began engaging in conversation w/ me. So, try to sit in the front in the female bartender area she was so nice to me. I wished she was my bartender. I ordered, a Corn beef sandwich & was really disappointed. It was commercial fat meat & I only ate half bc yuck . In NYC they use real corn beef. The bartender, also messed up my drink order he brought me whisky & I don't drink that. All he had to do was say Miss I didn't hear ur order can you repeat it. Simple! He kinda got upset w/ me when I said I didn't order that. How can u get upset w/ the customer when u messed up. Childish! If u don't like ur job quit. I won't be returning. As I was visiting Chicago, I can across Elephant & Castle Bar. It has the right old looking bar I was looking for. I walk in and was greeted and was sat promptly. I ordered Mini sausage rolls, a Noble House salad, and The Wee Pie Flight which consisted of for four small bowls of their soaps (shepherd's pie, chicken pot pie, steak and mushroom pie, and cheesy leek and potato pie). I had a scrumptious dinner here last night with colleagues while attending AMA. It was a short walk from our hotel. I loved the beef and lamb mix of this Shepherd's pie with the accompanying salad. Located on the corner of N. Wabash Ave. & E. Lake St in the heart of downtown Chicago. We were walking back to our hotel from the Millennium Park late Saturday night, and most eateries were closed, so we were happy to walk by this British Pub and seeing it was open. We walked right in. It was pretty busy, but we were seated immediately. We tried their 'Standard Burger' and 'Manta's Butter Chicken', which is served in curry tomato cream with a 'Pilsner Urquell' Cold beer. Great Irish pub in middle of Chicago City! Great food and beer! We came here for a quick bite as we were going to be walking around as a family, unfortunately was told we could not have my kid at the bar so we got a table which was understandable, we sat with the family but we wanted to check out the bar, wife and I went and ordered some drinks at the bar to check it and the host was rude and confused the bartender that we weren't supposed to be there, we mentioned them that we just wanted to check out the bar while the family was at the booth. We then finished our drinks QUICKLY and had to unfortunately leave and we sat down, other than that everything else was great! Food was awesome as you noticed, even forgot to take a photo before LOL. We have the chicken sliders, brussel sprouts, sweet potato fries! Great atmosphere and great group of people other than the host that clearly need more training dealing with people. This dinner ended up being a 5 star experience after a near disastrous start thanks to a staff who reminded us that 5star customer service still exists. To summarize, my husband and I drove an hour forty through aggravating rush hour traffic to celebrate 50 years with dinner and a show. We walked in a few minutes late only to find out our reservation was for a different location and the wait was 45 minutes. We were devastated but figured we could at least get a drink and starter before we'd have to leave for the show. Of course we had to use restrooms which were located downstairs. My husband walks with a cane and upon seeing this an employee standing nearby came over to show us to a restroom on the main level. Upon returning we went to stand in the bar where that same employee came to take our drink orders. A few minutes later he came back , took my arm and showed us to a table! Needless to say we were incredibly thankful and felt we were being treated as royalty. Our server was so attentive And then the food...... I had fish and chips, my husband bangers and mash( appropriate as we were seeing British comedian Michael McIntyre) Beautifully presented and delicious to boot. We topped off the meal with a yummy brownie ice cream concoction gratis for our 50th celebration.
