Celebrating my birthday week in Chicago, I planned a bookstore crawl. Well, a girl gets hungry on such an adventure! I stopped in for a bite because where else does one go in St. Patrick's Day weekend thank to a pub?! I indulged in the fish and chips that were delish! Hot fresh big flakes of lightly battered cod and seasoned fries. I know it's not traditional but the blustery day called for a glass of red wine to warm me and they had a red blend that was a perfect combination. The ambiance is lively and fun and all decorated for the weekend. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed people watching and sipping my wine.
So after visiting the Museum of Broadcasting Communications we stopped at our favorite restaurant and we were greated by Ernesto who by the way was amazing and very friendly. We ordered our drinks me a yummy Apple Martini and my wife a beer. We didn't order appetizer because we didn't want to feel to full because i know their plates here are pretty large portions. I had a cheddar burger with mushrooms and french fries which was delicious. It's a regular burger but, i asked for the mushrooms to be added. My wife had two fish tacos and a salad both of us were very happy. The ambiance here is a sportsy cozy restaurant and the service was awesome both Ernesto and Carlos were great and the other gentlemen with the long hair i didn't catch his name brought our drinks he was very friendly as well. A must visit English Pub filled with photos and memorabilia on their walls a great bar in your just stopping for a drink and great food if your visiting for lunch or dinner. Also, an outdoor patio weather permitting.
First time in Chicago and chose this place randomly. We walked in to chipper greetings and were seated promptly. It was clean and the waiter, Ernie, was friendly and efficient. We had been traveling all day so we glanced at the menu and ordered quickly. Apparently this place is English themed. They had options like "bangers and mash" and "sausage rolls". We kept it American. I got fried honey garlic wings and my kid got a standard burger. Took about 10-12 minutes to get the food since they make it to order but it was well worth it! Our food was hot, fresh, crispy, and juicy. My son said the wings were the best he's had, apparently better than mine at home lol. He loved the flavor in particular. This was our first eatery in Chicago and so far we are off to a good start!
What a great find! Been a minute since I've been home and came across this place I walking distance of the Kimpton Gray Hotel. Cool English pub. Chill vibe with classic drinks. We didn't order food but Laura and Michael were super friendly and attentive. You can tell Laura truly cared about her patrons. If you're in town, take a swing by.
Three night streets I was at the bar. Good IPA, pinot noir and some rye whiskey. My Central Loop hotels connected so it was the obvious place for nightcap before heading up to the room to sleep. It's a very busy pub. Met lot of nice peeps. Bartenders are very responsive and friendly. Tonight I tried the Ale onion soup with baked Swiss cheese, I mean, baked thick, thick Swiss cheese. It was so good. It was similar to a French onion soup, except it was Swiss instead of Greer cheese
The ambience was great and the food authentic, but the service came with a scowl. You know it's authentic when they have hard cider on tap, fish and chips, shepherds pie, Guinness, ... you get the idea.
This British pub was perfect! We happened to stop in as we're were just walking around Chicago. Our food was absolutely delicious. The butter chicken was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was juicy. The Cajun Caesar wrap was refreshing (only wish was more sauce). We were sat immediately and service was prompt. Inside is a vibey pub and felt cozy. Wish they had this restaurant on the west coast! Delicious!
Happy hour is great here. The roasted tomatoes and whipped feta are so amazing. The grilled baguette slices the dish is served with are outstanding. I also really like the mini sausage rolls, wrapped with a tasty puffed pastry. Service is always fast, and I appreciate all of the wall decor that is fun to look at. The place is never too loud, so conversation is always flowing in a vibrant atmosphere. I think they do not update the website as far as what discount drafts are available during happy hour, but that's ok. There is always something great to drink alongside their delicious happy hour food menu. I hope to go sometime for more than just lite bites.
I went here for dinner last week and had a lovely time with my friend who was in town for a conference. We had a 7:30 reservation on a Friday night and it was a little busy, so, glad we did it. The service was excellent- they kept our drinks filled and checked on us. I had the Shepherd's Pie and didn't think I would finish it, but it was so good, I ate the whole thing! We split the bread pudding for dessert- also a winner! I have been to the other location and enjoy both. Especially the great food and drinks!
My mom is in town and after an accidental nap on Easter Sunday, we needed to find somewhere close to her hotel to eat. We came across this spot, and it hit the spot. We ordered the onion soup, the Crisps & Dips, Hummus & Shepherd's Pie. The soup was amazing: warming & wonderfully brothy. The hummus had good seasoning, but could've used a bit more garlic. My mom loved her Shepherd's Pie. We sat at the bar so we could watch the hockey & basketball games, and the bartender, Ryan, was great! He was personable, with good energy & recommendations.
Bar service is really lacking. How do you take someone's credit card knowing they're running a tab, then proceed to ignore their empty glass for 10 minutes? And this is while the bar tender has stopped down to that end of the bar 3 times during that period yet fails to notice?
We stopped in for a drink one weeknight and sat at the bar. They have a large selection of beer and all the normal spirits. The venue is hype, with a British pub look and feel. Service from the bartender was decent, though she was being pulled in many directions at once. The cocktails we ordered were decent. Nice visit, definitely a decent place for a drink.
This place is always a great stop. There's plenty of seating, and the atmosphere feels cozy and welcoming. The happy hour menu is fantastic, with lots of shareable options and great drafts. The hamburgers are excellent, and the service is consistently friendly. It's a spot we come back to often.

Extremely disappointing and incredibly dangerous. Elephant and Castle proudly offers a "gluten-free menu," but it is a complete lie. When I asked about their processes, I found out that all of their fried foods are cross-contaminated because they use the exact same fryer for everything. You absolutely cannot advertise a gluten-free menu and then throw the food into a shared fryer with regular breaded items! That is completely false advertising, and worse, it can make someone genuinely, severely sick. If you have celiac disease or a serious gluten allergy, do not eat here. It is irresponsible, incredibly lazy, and a massive safety hazard. Zero stars if I could. This is the opposite of hospitality. Stop being lazy and lying to your guests and customers. If you don't accommodate, then fine. But don't lie about. Take people's dietary concerns seriously. read more
Made a reservation on saturday after watching Hamilton. The restaurant is a nice pub-type place with comfortable seating. We were taken to a nice booth and had a lovely server. I love savory pies and saw they had an option for pie flight so was very excited to give that a try. We were pretty hungry so my wife got the Deluxe Burger and I got both the Wee Pie Flight + The Sunday Roast. Im used to stronger spice foods so im not going to take any points away for that. I do wish they had a little more kick though. The pies all came out nice and hot. Each one was unique and delicious. The pot roast was decent as well and the gravy + horseradish sauce went pretty well together. Overall a nice meal. Might need to bring my own hot sauce next time for a little extra kick but otherwise food was very good. read more

This is a British pub style restaurant, so what can you really expect? I don't think the UK is known to have particularly exquisite cuisine, and that's sort of what you have to expect here. The food is edible, but not good by any means. I'll go into that more later, but first, I want to shout out Fernando, our server. He had so many tables and was still highly attentive, fast, and friendly. His service is the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. Regarding the food, the bangers and mash was to be expected. Very standard dish and hard to mess up. I would've liked the mashed potatoes to have not had large lumps, personally, but to each their own, I suppose. The green beans had no seasoning or even salt on them. They were just plain steamed green beans. And the salmon was unfortunately far overcooked. Very dry and with minimal flavor outside of just the salmon. I wouldn't come back. read more
Quick lunch day before Chicago marathon. Enjoyed Smithwick and Great Lakes Eliot Ness drayght beers. Amazing appetizer mini Sauasage roll with curry ketchup to dip in. Wow! The curry ketchup had so much flavor, and the sausage rolls delicate. I did not care for the ale onion soup, preferring wine/sherry traditional recipe. Citrus chicken salad very good. read more

Went here for a late breakfast while wandering Chicago and it was a complete train wreck. Ordering took longer than it takes to get through a DMV line. The couple next to us waited even longer. It wasn't the servers fault they were just trying to keep their head above water. It took equally as long to get our food. All of this would have been worth it, if the food was great and correct but it wasn't. It was a complete disappointment. read more
Finding a solid breakfast option in Chicago can be tricky... the great places have long lines and the mediocre places are... well, mediocre. Every once in a while, one might luck out by finding a diamond in the rough. Elephant and Castle is a diamond in plain sight. The British style of the restaurant/pub is charming and provides a fun atmosphere for eating while watching a football match (not the Americanized egg-hand game of course, but the game of soccer - my group enjoyed a live match of Manchester City v Manchester United while we were there). And then there is the food and drink itself. Starting with a delicious cup of coffee and pineapple juice, our group enjoyed a delicious combination of eggs, breakfast potatoes, and bangers (mildly seasoned sausages). I had the joy of enjoying a sandwich on English muffin with a banger patty, egg, gooey cheese, and some mild chipotle sauce and it was absolutely delightful. E & C will now retain a place in my mind not just as a backup plan for breakfast, but as a delicious choice amongst others. And some live soccer matches - well, that's just the icing on the proverbial cake. read more
Ah, not very impressed especially for Chicago. I ordered the fish and chips, cmon, Irish pub, fish and chips is the staple. Fish was over fried and more crust than fish. A good fish and chips has a light flaky texture and soft flaky wonderful fish meat. Not here, they may have had it once but don't order it even though waitress said excellent choice, I guess she has not tried at other Irish pubs or cities like Boston or even here in Houston. Bangers and mash were good but not over the top and everything was kind of bland, no love to the food and more like a fast food Irish pretend pub with beer. read more

My English husband and I stopped in while in town. We've been to the one in DC, and it was horrible, but I had a great experience in Seattle's, so we thought we'd give it a try. Loved the atmosphere, the food was okay (though not amazing), and overall we got to watch a game, he had his cider, and we enjoyed ourselves. read more

Chicago spot. I visited on St. Patrick's Day & sat @ the bar. The light complexion blk guy I got was not welcoming or pleasant to me he kinda had an attitude, but he was nice to others. He warmed up to me later when others began engaging in conversation w/ me. So, try to sit in the front in the female bartender area she was so nice to me. I wished she was my bartender. I ordered, a Corn beef sandwich & was really disappointed. It was commercial fat meat & I only ate half bc yuck . In NYC they use real corn beef. The bartender, also messed up my drink order he brought me whisky & I don't drink that. All he had to do was say Miss I didn't hear ur order can you repeat it. Simple! He kinda got upset w/ me when I said I didn't order that. How can u get upset w/ the customer when u messed up. Childish! If u don't like ur job quit. I won't be returning. Unless ur a regular it doesn't seem like they care about tourists patronizing their business. Well received. I don't recommend this one. I should've went to the Irish pub on the opposite side 1/2 block away the Emerald Loop. Actually, I passed it b4 getting to Elephant Castle pub. So, I gave them a (3) bc of bartender & nasty food . read more
As I was visiting Chicago, I can across Elephant & Castle Bar. It has the right old looking bar I was looking for. I walk in and was greeted and was sat promptly. I ordered Mini sausage rolls, a Noble House salad, and The Wee Pie Flight which consisted of for four small bowls of their soaps (shepherd's pie, chicken pot pie, steak and mushroom pie, and cheesy leek and potato pie). What a treat when you can't decide on a soup. Service was fast and awesome. read more

Cute little spot within the theatre district in the city. Service and food... so good. I got the Manta's Butter Chicken. Served with white rice... delicious. You wouldn't think that a British pub could make good Indian food but, yes. My husband got the fish and chips. The best fish and chips he's had. It really was tasty. And the cole slaw that comes with that dish - yum. We also ordered the cheesecake. Umm,.. maybe we won't get THAT again. City street parking. IYKYK read more

For a single person on weekday, this place was packed! (45 min wait) That's great for the restaurant and it gave me high hopes for what to expect. I placed an order to-go and asked for their opinion of what they recommend. They suggested the Sheppard's pie and I said ok. I walked around to take some photos and the vibe is so relaxed and people actually talked to each! It seemed like people were having a good time. The food came out quickly and when I got to my hotel, the food was packaged really nicely. I like the tray the "pie" came in and separated from the salad. Let me tell you, it was fairly bland. The seasoning was very subtle, so a little salt made it better, but there was nothing really special about it. This meal is very filling though, it looks small, but it is packed! I don't know what dressing they use on the salad, but it's so good! I'd come back again though and try something else. British food has a lot of options, so I'm sure there's something for me. read more
I had a scrumptious dinner here last night with colleagues while attending AMA. It was a short walk from our hotel. I loved the beef and lamb mix of this Shepherd's pie with the accompanying salad. The gravy served with it is so good. It's good for large groups as well and has a large dining room. It has both traditional Americana and British fare on the menu. I'd come back to sample more like the Bangers and Mash. read more
Located on the corner of N. Wabash Ave. & E. Lake St in the heart of downtown Chicago. We were walking back to our hotel from the Millennium Park late Saturday night, and most eateries were closed, so we were happy to walk by this British Pub and seeing it was open. We walked right in. It was pretty busy, but we were seated immediately. We tried their 'Standard Burger' and 'Manta's Butter Chicken', which is served in curry tomato cream with a 'Pilsner Urquell' Cold beer. The food was really good and tasted fresh, definitely a satisfying late dinner. As dessert, I ordered their 'Highland Bread Pudding' to-go, which was simply delicious! The best bread pudding I've had. Shout out to our server 'Malique', who was extremely attentive and made sure to check up on us often. I loved his great attitude. Overall, we had a great experience here and will definitely return while in town. read more

Great British style pub in Chicago' loop, right under the 'L'. Great patio area perfect for enjoying a pint of beer on a hot day. They do have a happy hour during the work week, great selection of beer, tasty fish & chips plus burgers. read more

We arrived a bit early for our Friday reservation before a show but were immediately sat which was nice. It was crowded when we first arrived but cleared out as it seemed to be lots of coworkers having a drink after work before heading home. Booth was comfy and I loved the decor. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We took advantage of the happy hour pricing and got the crisps and dip trio and sweet potato fries which were all very good. We also had an order of pretzels. The cheese sauce was good. After all the appetizers we weren't super hungry but had to try the fish and chips. Loved the cole slaw and the fries! So good. The tartar sauce was great and the fish was nicely fried. We had 2 cocktails and some wine which were all pretty standard. Although we had never see a penicillin drink on a menu before. It was interesting. Very good meal and we'd definitely go back when downtown again. The only negative was it was very warm in the restaurant. They were trying to fix that with an industrial AC unit by the door but it still was a bit stuffy inside. read more
