We were staying at the RIU Plaza Chicago and wanted a few drinks and appetizers. Located on the 27th floor offering a great view of Chicago. You definitely need a reservation if you want to eat and have a few drinks. Our server Lupita was super friendly and very good. Drinks are standard city prices $15-20 each. Beers average $8-10. We ordered their Angus Burger which is 2 burgers with sundried tomatoes, arugula and pesto. Also tried the Jamon Serrano Croquettes which were amazing , Parmesan Truffle fries,Tacos de Barbacoa which were super tender short ribs with a roasted chili sauce. And of course we had to try the Pulled Pork nachos . All were very good and nobody left hungry. In a city full of incredible culinary experiences, this was a dud. Great clean and swanky rooftop, of course, but most of the delights stopped there. Food was average- we shared a bunch of dishes. All pretty standard fare. Cocktails were sub par (my Negroni was watery) and the drink menu was uninspired- literally just "standard" cocktails with zero innovative takes. For the price it was a real bummer. Server was nice but impossible to get a hold of for our check- we waited for 40 minutes and asked two different staff members to please send him over. I didn't expect anything much after reading reviews. Basically repeating what others have said. read more

Cute rooftop with great views of the city. There is also a small clear deck that you can go out and stand on for free. The chicken skewers came with a delicious peanut sauce and the arugula they were sitting on top of was seasoned well. The guacamole was super fresh and came with a side of pico and chips, which were thick and unsalted. Service was friendly but slow, given that there were not many tables full when I was there. It's been on our radar to checkout the rooftop bar on the 27th floor of the RIU Chicago. We had a reservation for a party of six and we were seated immediately. Our server Lupita was so gracious and helpful. We ordered several items to share plus angus burgers for the teens and all were delicious. Cocktails averaged about $18 which is typical for a city bar. I had the Hugo Spritz which was a bit sweet for me because I am used to the Aperol Spritz. The highlight dish was the Tacos de Barbacoa which melted in your mouth. read more

This rooftop has an incredible view of the sunset and a great atmosphere, too. My husband and I went there for a few drinks--we ordered Aperols, and they were perfect. We didn't eat anything; to be honest, I didn't see anything on the menu that caught my eye, so I gave it only 3 stars. read more

Views, spectacular! The glass awning is a unique experience where you can see all the way to the ground, taking pictures there almost looks like you're floating above the city. Food is okay, the hummus plate is a popular option and I had the chicken satay as well which comes with a cold sauce that I felt was a little too sweet. Service was not the best, our server mixed up our order a couple of times and brought the wrong drink and then we couldn't find him to get help with correcting it so we had to ask another server. You need reservations on the weekend as they were not accepting walk ins. Overall I recommend coming for sunset cocktails but if you're really hungry I would hold off for something else around the neighborhood. read more

Neat patio. Had some lovely friends in town and wanted to let them enjoy the views of DT. I put a reservation in for 4 at what I thought was happy hour based on the website (weekday happy hour). Unfortunately, when we there they said Friday was the weekend. Hmm, no it is not!!! Anyway, we enjoyed the views and the drinks were good. Our server struggled with speaking and understanding English and that did affect our service. He was really nice but had a hard time explaining what was in our cocktails. Because of this, we switched to a bottle of sparkling Rose. The view itself is quite scary but it is optional. I struggled getting on the clear ledge but did make it and very scary and never need to do this again. Appetizers looked good and if we didn't have reservations some where else for a late dinner, we would have gotten some lite bites. Definitely get a reservation as this place is hopping. We had a great time at the RIU rooftop! We came here to enjoy the weather and hang out with family. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and attentive. Our glasses were always full! The food was good too and easily shared. When you're here, you have to speak to the elevator attendant who will have a key to access the elevator. They also have heaters up there for times that are cold. read more

Service was incredibly poor. I made a reservation and arrived a little early. Tables open galore. And they said I had to wait. No problem. I went to the bar and ordered a drink - it's a standing bar only. Finally got sat after about 15 minutes- my reservation time. Ton of tables still open. My waitress brought me water after sitting 15 minutes and never came back to take my order. Sat for 30 minutes. and decided to leave. Pretty sure I would have waited way too long for my food. Menu is limited. For such a nice hotel you would think they would assure a good restaurant would be available - especially if their name is attached. read more

Visited the RIU rooftop for the 1st time last week for an after hr stop during our Nurses UnWine & Elevate MYXR. We had a reservation set for 7/25 at 10:15p. We were hoping to get drinks & bites however when we arrived we were told the kitchen had closed at 9p. This was indicated nowhere in the reservation confirmation that we received. We frequent a lot of places & generally when booking reservations these things are included, being that we didn't just walk in. I ordered a sidecar & it was terrible. I requested it be made with Hennessey specifically, and it tasted like it was made with a cheap cognac maybe even Courvoisier...there is a distinct difference in the taste. We stayed until the bar closed. When we got down to the lobby & we needed to use the restroom. The concierge at the desk simply said it's being cleaned. Anyone in Chicago knows that you cannot just walk into establishments to use their bathroom. So as a paying customer, I'm expecting to be able to use the restroom where I just spent time & money. Some time passes & I ask for a restroom again & he gave the same response. I asked how long they would be cleaning he then said it's closed for the night until 6a or something. So I asl okay where's another restroom I can use? He asked if I'm a guest insinuating that I could just go to my room to use the bathroom. I said I'm not a guest, but I just left the rooftop, they didn't tell us there wasn't a restroom available downstairs. So he's just staring & I ask him again to direct me to another restroom now he's giving me attitude rolling his neck & eyes. I asked for the manager. I again explained that as a paying customer, I should be able to use a restroom. The manager instructed him to take me to 1..and this is where it got very weird & very uncomfortable. We got to the elevators & he asked if I mind taking the stairs b/c the elevator would be awhile. The stairs took us to the basement, and no one was down there. He pointed me to the bathroom & went to leave. I stopped him & asked how I was supposed to get back up. The elevators didn't need a key to get from the basement up. I'm sure many of you know of the mysterious happening with Kenneka Jenkins in 2017...this interaction that I had with the staff made that event flash before my eyes. It was weird & very triggering. The rude concierge's name was Hugo. This is very disappointing b/c I was looking forward to my 1st RIU experience especially with it being in my hometown. I had plans to visit the rooftop & even return for a staycation. However, this visit has tainted that for me. I would also like to add that no one answers the phone at the lobby desk. read more

A beautiful view but unfortunately that's about it. I will give thanks to the manager who fixed a big error on our bill without any hesitation. We went for happy hour, first of all both options for beer on the happy hour menu were not available. Our waitress provided us with alternatives, could not explain anything about what they were and overcharged us. We ordered vegetarian nachos which were about 10 sad chips half without cheese and no other toppings. When we asked if we could add avocado, we were told no. When we gave feedback that the nachos were underwhelming our waitress shrugged. Would save yourself the trip as there are many other rooftops in this area that have better food, drinks and service. read more

It has wonderful ambience but they take too long to seat people. Even with a reservation. It was my first time here and the servers and hostesses were professional and friendly. I would visit again just for that. The food was decent but I didn't like the drinks. Overall I have to say I would try this place again. read more

The rooftop has a nice setting with great views and a balcony with a transparent floor that visitors can admire the height of the floor. The service is excellent and all the staff is very attentive. They are constantly asking and pending to any request. The appetizers are ok and tend to be a bit small for the price. The cocktails are good but not impressive. I will give it another try, but definitely I will take visitors to enjoy the views! read more

The views are not actually good up there, the food selection sucks and is grossly overpriced, the service sucks (we asked for our check 3 times before we actually got it), the few items they have may not be available (e.g. their cappuccino machine is just broken), the dessert we actually ordered looked nothing like the picture when we received it, and the ambiance up there is a misting fan spitting water at you uncomfortably. You can definitely skip this one. Find a better roof top. read more

Terrible service. The bartender was extremely rude and unprofessional. He ignored us while we were trying to order more drinks, kept chatting with his coworkers, and even walked back into the kitchen several times to gossip instead of helping customers. Definitely not the kind of experience you'd expect from a rooftop bar. Please save your money and go elsewhere. read more
