I can see the appeal in the summer when the rooftop is open with tables or the fire pit is on, but we went on a Saturday late afternoon in December around 5pm so the rooftop was unlocked, but had no tables, chairs, fire pits or anything. We paid $55 for 2 drinks without rooftop views or even seats available inside. They had half the bar roped off without chairs so maybe 12-14 seats at the bar with about 30 people crowded in the half the bar that was open. The drinks were good, but overpriced since we didn't have the expected ambiance. I would return in the summer but don't suggest it for winter. The drinks alone weren't worth the price tag. read more

The staff was incredibly friendly with great outdoor seating/ambiance that overlooks the city (very chill vibe, good music), good food, and great small plates. I loved the entire vibe of the place for something chill to do on a sunny afternoon. I love caviar but the caviar potatoes are cold with minimal flavor. The burrata was full of flavor with fresh heirloom tomatoes- definitely would recommend for burrata lovers. The seasonal sliders with the jalapeño aioli- definitely recommend! There is a reason that this bar was rated one of the best hotel bars in the United States. It is not only because it is at the Peninsula hotel, but the atmosphere and cocktails are also outstanding as well. My husband and I were staying at the Peninsula for a staycation and decided to check this place out before we had dinner with friends at another restaurant in the area. We came earlier in the evening (around 4pm), so there was no wait for a table. I don't believe they are currently accepting reservations (as of now), but it appears there is a waitlist on yelp you can add yourself to. I hope they offer a reservation feature in the future though. Later in the night, we wanted to try to bring our friends back to Z Bar for a drink, but the waiting list was pretty long by that point. I did really appreciate that they did call us once a table became available, but we ended up declining because we were feeling a little tired by that point. Most of the cocktails range between $18-$32, but most are closer to the $18 price point. I ordered the Oak and Apple and I can truthfully say that this is one of the most unique cocktails I have ever had. I have had many experiences trying various whiskey, scotch, and brandy based cocktails at various bars I have visited around the country, so this one took me by surprise. I liked the nature elements that they included as part of the presentation of the cocktail. This cocktail includes 12 year Macallan scotch, pear, ginger, bergamot, and sherry. I thought I had died and gone to heaven after eating the Lobster Benedict here for brunch. It's fantastic! So delicious and filling. The Hollandaise sauce was absolutely perfect! This dish came with a bed of salad and the lobster was cooked to perfection. We also had the steak and eggs which was really good, but not as great as the Lobster Benedict. We had a couple of Bellini's, a bloody Mary and a Sunday spritz too! Z Bar is located in the Penninsula hotel, the address is 108 E. Superior, but they are actually just west of Michigan Avenue on Superior. We were seated at a cozy little table in the corner so we could observe the other patrons that were on the rooftop patio. The space has a great view of Michigan Avenue, you can check out Water Tower Place from here. All of the tables/couches were comfortable and cozy at the same time. Except for the service being a little slow oh, it looked like they were short-handed, everything was excellent. My husband and I hit bad traffic on the way & were late for our reservation. I called ahead of time to notify them. Once we arrived I checked in with the hostess. When she realized that we were late her demeanor changed and she stated "oh, you're late" with a look of disapproval on her face. I apologized for being late. The drinks were good and the food was decent too. My experiences was soured by the rude hostess. The waitress was kind & attentive. Z Bar was such a great time. If you haven't made it in then you need to. The bar is maybe on the 8th or 9th floor of the Penninsula hotel so the veiws are not bad at all. We went in at night so it was a cool ambiance so I do wonder what it could look like during the day. We didn't get a chance to sit as they had a long wait, although there were a few tables around that never got any clients but it's okay. We still had a great time. The drinks were amazing. We came to the Z Bar to grab a drink before my husband's aunt's wedding on Saturday night. They're a rooftop bar located inside the Peninsula hotel. The service here was great, our bartender checked on us several times, and all of the employees had their masks on properly which I can appreciate. Though the menu was a small selection and the prices were on the pricier side, it was expected because it's inside of a high end hotel with stunning views of the Magnificent Mile. I opted to stay inside because it was pretty humid that evening. Next time, I'll definitely go outside and have my drinks and small bites. They serve food here, but it's more of a place to socialize. My friends and I checked out this new rooftop and we loved the view! It's right by Water Tower place and you can see Michigan Ave/John Hancock. It was a little complicated to get there because we had to take two elevators inside the Peninsula (not much signs). The service was nice but the menu is a little expensive but it goes without saying being a rooftop. We each got one drink that was around $15-20. I tried the Z Cocktail which was interesting...sort of tasted like one of those healthy juice cleanse drinks but with alcohol and it was minty. The complimentary nuts were delicious and addicting! Wow...happened to stop in Z Bar on a whim after seeing it while walking the Mag Mile. Tucked away on the roof of one wing of the Peninsula Hotel, the worst thing about Z Bar is figuring out how to get there! The drink menu is simplistic while at the same time having something for everyone and the patio vibe is the perfect blend of Chicago skyline and people watching on the street. The patio closes at 11PM during the week so if you want to enjoy it get there a little early! The old fashioned was garnished with a simple orange peel and was a perfect balance of whiskey, bitters, and simple syrup surrounding a surprisingly clear ice cube which revealed the clarity of the drink. My second drink, a whiskey on the rocks, was a generous portion for what I considered a reasonable price considering the location, ambiance and service. Also, Z Bar may have the most luxurious drink coasters I have seen in a bar. 10/10 will be back the next time I visit Chicago! read more

Z bar is a hidden gem with a great view of the Hancock building and the city. We came here for drinks and the views. Its not crowded as Cindy's rooftop and I think I prefer this for a more laid back experience. Z bar is located inside the Peninsula Hotel (which has pretty decor during the holiday season by the way!) Surprisingly, the rooftop area is open during the winter. They have a cozy lounge area with blankets and a fire going. The ambiance is very nice. The drinks are around $15 plus a drink, because of the view but it's definitely worth it. I got the 'The Z' it was good, strong, yet very refreshing. I will be bringing my friends here next time they come and visit the city. I would like to try their food items as well! read more
