I was visiting friends in Chicago, and I absolutely loved this bar! This was such a fun, cute, speakeasy style tiki bar and the drinks did not disappoint! We had a reservation and came on a weeknight. We split the hippo drink, which is one that is meant to be shared, between 3 of us. It was tart and fruity and the dry ice was a fun touch! The presentation was truly a 15 out of 10. I would definitely recommend this spot for a fun night out in Downtown Chicago!
Came from Fort Lauderdale (home to Mai Kai, which inspired several of the drinks on the menu) so we had high hopes--we were not disappointed. Somehow the atmosphere and ambience is sexy, but festive at the same time. The drinks were delicious and I love that they had indicators for how strong each drink was. Our server was very friendly and personable and was very understanding when we let her know we had dinner reservations shortly after our arrival. Highly recommend!
Beautifully designed space and amazing drinks Reservations will be needed, be sure to plan this spot! We had a bit of difficulty at first finding this place which is part of the fun, but make your way down an alley and you'll find your new favorite tiki bar! We were seated promptly and with an Arrival time around 330 it was low lighting, chill ambiance music and everyone enjoying good conversation. Honestly great start! The server was knowledgeable and attentive, our drinks came quickly after our appetizer did The ceviche was fresh and we ate every bit of it, would have ordered more had we not had dinner plans! Drinks were certainly tasty and well balanced, always what you want from a tiki bar My only gripe was they seemed to keep increasing the music volume and allowed for more standing room which wasn't the vibe we were looking for, but that just might be what they convert to closer to dinner time. Perhaps would be better in the later hours as people still were trying to simply connect with eachother on a speaking level but that's just my perception. Overall wonderful spot, we will return when we want to bring friends from out of town to experience three dots and a dash!
I heard about this speakeasy Tiki bar on social media. I was very eager to come & decided to stop by. It was a little challenging to find, and I had to ask a random security guard nearby to ask where it was located. The bar is accessible from the alley. When I arrived, I stood by the host desk for easily 5 minutes as the hostess walked back & forth without acknowledging me. She eventually addressed me to say that I could head on in and that it was standing room available. I went to the bar and it was completely full. I stood by and checked out the drinks menu. Once I was ready, the bartender also ignored me. It took for the seated patrons at the bar to call the bartender's attention and order on my behalf. They added my drink to their tab which was super sweet. I enjoyed my drink and people watched & enjoyed the music. Unfortunately a seat did not become available so I eventually left. Under different circumstances, I would've enjoyed the bar because tropical drinks and Tiki bars are my vibe. This wasn't the greatest experience though.
When I was visiting my friends in Chicago, they insisted on bringing me to Three Dots and a Dash. We were able to walk-in on a Friday evening, although we were relegated to standing room only since we weren't able to get a reservation. Upon entering the bar, I felt like I was entering a catacomb with skulls lining the entrance. The bar was packed, and we squeezed in at the bar to order our drinks. The drinks were on the pricey side, but I appreciate how the cocktails are garnished with real fruit (mine had lychee and dragonfruit) and was served in a fun tiki glass that was unique to each drink. The setting is a huge part of the experience, and I had a fun, memorable evening.
This place is a yes, yes, and yes! I have a buddy that loves Tiki bars and found this place/made a reservation, so our group came to visit on a Sunday night. The vibe is speakeasy-ish; the entrance is off the street in an alleyway but the interior is very nice, low light, and would be fun for a date night! The staff were attentive and very friendly. My friend got some shots, which were surprisingly good given they were kind of sweet, and I ordered the "mystic lamp" cocktail ($16) which was VERY memorable to me as someone that loves floral drinks -- it was very floral, slightly fruity, and had a lovely chunk of lychee it came with which was delicious! The drink was decent sized too; I've been charged a lot more for much less drink at other speakeasies (those of which I don't plan to visit again any time soon haha). In my opinion, this spot has the perfect combo of great drinks, nice ambiance, cool speakeasy-vibes, but also cheerfulness given the tiki-theme inside. Would definitely rec a visit to anyone visiting Chicago who likes cool bars!
When my friend let us to the alley for the entrance I was unsure but he was right. Not your ordinary entrance but the tiki torches helped me know we were in the right spot. We were lucky to get a table or else it's just standing area and the floors by the bar are sticky. On the menu you have options and the glassware you see is what you get, it's pretty cool. It was busy for a Sunday night and so it took a while to close out. They do have food options and we grabbed a few and they were good. Too good that we didn't get any pictures everyone went in and it didn't last long. We shared three appetizers between four people. It's a cool spot. They have one drink that you're only allowed to order once. Check it out!
This place is a super cute speakeasy upscale bar vibe. I highly recommend reservations because even on a Monday they were pretty full, even the bar area was packed so we had to wait a while. Once seated we got our drinks pretty fast. Do also keep in mind the entrance is in an alleyway, so be on the lookout. I enjoyed the service. In my opinion the drinks are more cutesy than strong. I got the highest strength drink and I was perfectly fine. Drink was good, just not as strong as advertised. Definitely cute for a date night or girls night out!
Haven't been to this place since 2018 and I couldn't wait to get back. Reservations required in their $10 each person, but it does get credited to your bill. It's got a great Tiki vibe and the staff is super knowledgeable about the craft libations and menu items. It is definitely relaxed. They do not rush you. And the aesthetic is clean and inviting. The crab dip had lumps of crab meat. With wonton chips. The beef kebabs were so marinated, flavored delicious and tender and everything came with an accompanying dip. The surprise was the flaming banana split ice cream! Didn't expect that with real pineapple. They also have a pretty pricey gift shop that sells their beverage mugs of all different shapes and sizes. The crowd seemed pretty happy to be there as well.
Went inside after someone outside came up to my friend and I and heavily suggested we come in. What great chances! Three Dots and a Dash is a really cool tiki bar with unique and flashy drink options. Drinks were served pretty fast considering it was a Friday night that was fairly packed (maybe waited 3 minutes for a drink once my friend ordered) . My friend said he thoroughly enjoyed his drink and loved the combination in the Royal Hawaiian mocktail! Will definitely come back and try something next time with friends when the night is right. Not really disability friendly from what I had been seen or shown (there was only a staircase to enter in and out of) with little seating around if you don't have a reserved table (which was fair for a Friday night on a whim, not a complaint whatsoever). I could be wrong but I didn't see an elevator, and had a bit of a difficult time navigating the space with just myself and a small bag.
We came here as a part of 4 on a Friday night. It was PACKED. We thankfully had reservations which to me is a must, but they will accommodate you at the bar without them. The drinks were so good! They were good size and simply delicious. Well balanced. Not too sweet and not artificially sweet. It's clear those making them knew how to make real cocktails. The ambiance is true tiki. It is large but there were people surrounding our table because it was close to the bar. If you make a reservation and pay a deposit, make sure to make your server aware. The quickly made adjustments for us, but this was an issue in ensuring we got our credit. I would recommend getting a reservation in their smaller internal bar for a more intimate experience and more commonly crafted drinks. I would definitely come back but likely on a weeknight or earlier in the day.
This speakeasy is such a cool spot to impress a date or a friend on a night out! I loved all the tiki themed drinks and the moody ambiance transports you to a tropical island. I had the aloha felicia which was sweet, velvety, and refreshing for summer. My second round was the Saturn which was lighter and fruity - another solid choice! I love that all the drinks come in awesome mugs and you can even purchase the mugs for an extra charge. Service was super friendly and helfpul with suggestions.
We came on a Tuesday night and grabbed one of the last tables available - definitely a spot that fills up even on quieter nights. The drinks are beautifully presented in playful tiki mugs, making them both Instagram worthy and genuinely enjoyable. I honestly wish there was a tiki bar of this caliber closer to home. If you're into tiki drinks, this spot is absolutely worth a visit when you're in Chicago. They were also very good at accommodating my requests at lowering the sweetness level of all my drinks. Just a heads up: make a reservation. You'll want a proper seat to enjoy the experience. Really fun place! Cool swanky atmosphere and excellent drinks. Rum lovers rejoice! Fabulous tiki vibes and vibrant place to chill with friends. Really good snacks too. All the fries are great: sweet potato, waffle, and yucca. I love that they have group drinks! My friends and I shared a drink that served 3-4 people. So fun! Such a fun tiki bar. I loved the whole vibe right when I walked in. It's super dark inside with that tropical, escapist feel you want from a good tiki spot. Totally felt transported. The drinks were awesome. I started with the 1962 Tropical Itch which came in this giant clam shell and had mezcal in it. So fun and honestly tasted amazing. I also tried one of their non-alcoholic drinks but asked them to add mezcal and they were happy to do it, which I appreciated. We ended the night with the shotstapus, and yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. The shots were solid, but the delivery made it totally worth it. If the drinks weren't so strong I probably could've stayed all night. They do have food if you need to soak things up a bit. I didn't try any, but it looked good. Service was fantastic and the little gift shop is super cute. We ended up bringing home two souvenir glasses. If I'm ever in Chicago again, this place is absolutely on my list. read more

I called ahead to ask if I needed a reservation for just one person, and they told me I could simply walk in. I arrived around 8-9 p.m. on a weekday, and from the moment I got there, I understood the hype. The entrance is tucked away in an alley, and after they checked my ID, I walked down the stairs into what felt like a completely different world. It really has that hidden speakeasy vibe. The bar area was packed, but I was lucky enough to grab a seat. Honestly, every cocktail on the menu sounded amazing, so I asked the bartender to help me choose between two drinks. I ended up going with the Jet Pilot, and wow, it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the waffle fries, which were fresh, crispy, and the perfect snack to go with the cocktails. Between the atmosphere, the drinks, and the friendly service, this was easily one of my favorite experiences in Chicago. I'd absolutely come back the next time I'm in town. read more
Reserved a spot in the Bamboo Room and tried the Clairvoyant Missionary along with their signature Three Dots and a Dash. Both cocktails were crafted with care and had layered flavors you don't usually find outside of a dedicated tiki bar. The Clairvoyant Missionary leaned bright and tropical while the Three Dots and a Dash was smooth with spice notes, a drink that lives up to its reputation. Presentation was fun without being over the top, and the bartenders clearly knew their stuff. The Bamboo Room itself felt more intimate than the main bar, with a quieter vibe and a focus on the cocktails rather than the crowd. Service was attentive and paced well. It's a bit of a splurge, but worth it if you want the full tiki experience done right. read more
Came here with my friend- she loves this place and so she said we had to come here. The crab rangoon dip was so good, the seasoning on the sweet potato fries were so addictive I love how they had a trio of sauces! The drinks were really cute and I like how the stronger the drink is there was a skull next to the name on the menu. So this place actually has two bars in one: The Bamboo Room and Three Dots and a Dash. We tried both, and if you're into tiki vibes, you have to check them out the theming is amazing. The Bamboo Room: More exclusive, slightly pricier drinks, but 100% worth it. The service was fantastic -- our bartender was super attentive and even started us off with a little welcome cocktail. We ordered the Three Dots and a Dash and the Saturn Frappe both excellent. The drinks here definitely tasted higher quality and more balanced. Three Dots and a Dash: Next, we went over to the main bar. Still great atmosphere, great drinks we had the Jet Pilot, another Three Dots and a Dash, and some waffle fries (all solid). But honestly, you can tell the Bamboo Room drinks are next-level compared to the main side. Now for the annoying part: When you make a reservation, they charge you ahead of time (about $20 per person), which is supposed to go toward your final tab. At the Bamboo Room, the bartender made sure it was applied no problem. But at the main bar, our server "forgot" to apply the credit. After we paid, we noticed the total seemed high, asked for the receipt, and only then did she admit it and say she'd refund it. Felt kinda sketchy, to be honest. Heads-up: make sure your prepaid credit actually gets applied before you pay the bill. To the owners I get that you're trying to prevent no-shows, but precharging guests and then making them chase down their credit just leaves a bad taste. Maybe just take a card hold instead? If someone no shows charge them something. Overall: Drinks and vibe are awesome, especially in the Bamboo Room. Just watch your bill and you'll have a great time. read more
I had been to three dots and a dash about seven years ago and when planning a trip to Chicago, I set out to find this unique tiki bar to add to our itinerary. The atmosphere is completely fun and immersive of the moment you walk in. It is dark inside with music and you immediately forget it is daylight even if you have a 4 PM reservation (which I highly recommend a reservation). My friends and I ordered nonalcoholic drinks that were completely outstanding and served in a fresh coconut, and they even brought us spoon so we could enjoy the coconut meat. My husband who claims to be a pirate ordered their regular cocktails and loved everyone of them. He even brought some souvenirs back home. If you were trying to escape to a tropical tiki Paradise in the heart of Chicago, this is your place. read more

As I walked in the place, it was very dark. I do like the tropical theme. Everything was fine until I was seated close to the bar area which separated us that had reservations. It quickly became crowded and above the ordinary loud. People kept knocking into my table and it began to be annoying. The food was ordinary as well. Not bad but not outstanding. The tiki glasses are sold here as well. read more

Entrance is in the back of an alley way. Sounds more suspect than what it is. You can't miss it with the tiki torch lit outside. You get your ID checked right there and then head downstairs in what is a steep staircase. The lights are low and have red, green and blue lights reflecting off the walls. The stairs are an entrance to two speakeasies. The one on the right as you enter is reservations only and the one on the left is the tiki bar. We walked right in and found seats at the bar or you can reserve a table ahead of time. The tiki bar leans into the tiki, Asian, Pacific Islander and Hawaiian theme. Everything reflects this sorta culture and aesthetics. The menu is the same. We got the: 1962 tropical itch. It wasn't sweet. Which I liked because sugary drinks = a terrible hangover. It comes with mezcal. Three dots and a dash drink. It was a little bit on the sour side. Its base liquor is rum. We spent about a hour here. Got here around 10pm. It was pretty packed. No cover. Drinks were about 17 dollars. It's loud in here. read more
After a warm day in the sun and a 90-minute architecture boat tour, my wife and I were ready for a refreshing break--and Three Dots and a Dash was just the escape we needed. This hidden speakeasy tiki bar is tucked away down an alley and through an unmarked door, leading to a cool, dark basement full of fun and mysterious tiki decor. We didn't have a reservation, but the host kindly let us in as long as we could wrap up our visit within 90 minutes--which was no problem for us. (Next time, we'll definitely make a reservation to enjoy a more relaxed stay.) I ordered the Painkiller, a coconut and rum-based drink that was exactly what I was craving--tropical, smooth, and not overly sweet. My wife ordered a whiskey-based cocktail with passionfruit and lemon, which didn't quite work for her palate. Fortunately, our server was incredibly accommodating and swapped it out for the Painkiller as well--problem solved! We also shared the steak skewer appetizer, which came with lettuce wraps and a flavorful sauce. Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was, considering it's mainly known as a cocktail bar. We'd definitely recommend checking it out--especially on a hot Chicago day. The cool, underground setting paired with strong tiki vibes and great service makes for a memorable stop. We'll be back! read more
Cool tiki bar in the middle of the city. It's very dark in the bar, and Drinks are in the pricier side. Definitely a place to check out once but wouldn't make it a regular spot. Service was good but drinks do take a bit of time because they are all speciality cocktails. read more
Came here with four of my girlfriends while visiting Chicago for a girls trip. The place itself is definitely cute and has a fun, themed vibe but unfortunately, it didn't live up to our expectations. The lighting was very dark, which made it hard to even read the menu comfortably. Speaking of the menu, it wasn't all that appealing to us, and we ended up just ordering a few appetizers which sadly went mostly untouched. They just didn't hit the mark in terms of flavor or presentation. We were excited about the drinks, especially with them being served in fun Hawaiian tiki-style cups, but the taste didn't match the aesthetic. None of us really enjoyed them. On a positive note, our server was friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated. However, we didn't end up staying long. This just wasn't the vibe we were looking for, and overall, it wasn't one of our favorite stops on the trip. Cute idea, but unfortunately, the experience didn't follow through. read more
I love a speakeasy that actually a speakeasy! Recently went to one in Pittsburgh that was just a restaurant on the basement floor *rolls eyes* but that's a different story for the different time. This space, who's entrance is in a back alley, is very cute! It's dark in lighting but brightly colored and completely decked out in the tropical theme. We didn't have a reservation (which is highly recommended on the website) so we ponied up to a ledge but knew that we were only staying for one cocktail. The cocktails match the tiki theme which I don't love in general because they're typically too sweet. However, the ones we ordered we're fairly well balanced and obviously aesthetically pleasing. If you're on the town with your girls, this is definitely a cute spot to add to the evening itinerary. read more

Three Dots and a Dash is a hidden basement tiki dream. Total vibe--warm, immersive, and buzzing. The cocktails are fun and creative, and the food (steak bites) was way better than expected. One of those places that instantly feels like a good time. Would go back in a heartbeat. read more
Was seated at the bar in the bamboo room, which was a cool speak easy like side room with a more intimate feel and allowed you to chat with the bar tender and see the drinks made. My friend was doing non alcoholic and they had two great options and the bartender noted he could do others for her off menu. Was a little sad that my highball was a premade drink poured from a two liter because I wanted the flair, but it was so delicious I got two. We also got the waffle fry app and the fries unfortunately came out cold but they were still crispy and the seasonings and dips were all very tasty! read more

amazing tiki themed bar located in an alley!! for big groups i recommend reserving a table in advance because it gets super packed! our group of 5 people were seated promptly after ID check & checking in with the host. you get teleported to 2 flights down stairs into a cool, dimly lit tiki bar. FOOD: -firecracker popcorn chicken: great snack to munch on & it came with a sweet tangy sauce. -golden waffle fries: my favorite snack we got for the night to munch on - it came with 3 sauces & a bigger portion than expected!! this with the popcorn chicken was the perfect amount of food for our group of 5 for light snacking with our cocktails COCKTAILS: -mystic lamp: i got the mystic lamp & it was really tasty! despite being 2 skull signs on the menu (which indicates how strong the alcohol is) - i didn't feel like the liquor taste was strong at all. -black magic: this one was 2 skull signs for alcohol strength too & i tasted the liquor WAYY more than mystic lamp. -strawberry junglebird: interestingly enough, this was the least strong according to the menu but the rum taste definitely lingered after. read more

We were a party of 15 and the service was fantastic. The drinks were strong, served in such fun glasses with really great floral and fruit accents, and the Loaded Luau Cheese Fries (Cheddar, Kimchi, Teriyaki, Spicy Mayo, Furikake, Crispy Onions) was DELICIOUS. We also enjoyed the Shrimp Spring Roll Sticks. A great find and I look forward to hearing back in spring. read more
Amazing spot and a must-visit if in Chicago. We stopped in at 8 on a Saturday which seemed like absolutely perfect timing. Soon as we got in, way more people started showing up and if we were 60-90 seconds later we would not had gotten lucky grabbing a table. I went with a painkiller which was sooooo good. Did not expect it to be blended/frozen but it was so yummy. My girlfriend tried a "three dots and a dash" which was also good but not as much on the sweet/fruity side. It was a bit stronger too. The drinks are nice and strong here so you definitely get your money's worth. We tried the waffle fries and the firecracker popcorn chicken. Fries were good. The popcorn chicken is like an 8 out of 10 on spicy-ness that crawls up on you. The first few bites you're thinking "this isn't spicy at all" and then 5 minutes later, bam, whole mouth is burning. Thankfully, theres those frozen cocktails... Three Dots and a Dash is a bit pricy but something you've gotta experience at least once. read more

OMG this place is a MUST GO. Their decor and ambiance is sooo cool, drinks are well crafted and they give you a good amount. They had St. Lucian rums which you do not find in many places so that was a great treat for me! We also ended up snagging a table and ordering some bites (firecracker chicken and steak skewers not pictured) which were delicious. The bartenders were great but our server ended up disappearing after our food came, unsure what happened there. read more
We didn't have a reservation but the wait was only about 10 mins for a table. The menu had festive drinks and some snacks. The server indicated the fries and chicken poppers could be made GF. There were allergy sticks in the food and the sauces were also GF. The food was really good! read more
No ifs, ands, or buts about it, the vibes are awesome! The music from a live DJ keeps the atmosphere lively, yet isn't deafening. The quantity of people is kept controlled so you're not facing a crowd 5 people deep. The decor, drinks, and lighting all transport you to a bona fide Tiki bar somewhere. For drinks, the whole menu is tropical through and through, the combinations, names, and drinks are all unique and creative. Even the Old Fashioned has a fun tropical twist. I ordered the namesake "Three Dots and a Dash". A great combination of orange, rum, and spice! Alas, food was not the highlight of the evening. I ordered the Crab Rangoons. While I appreciate the noticeable crab flavors, the filling was otherwise on the bland side. Furthermore, the dough lacked any kind of crispiness. Finally, big props for the service - it was quick, friendly, and attentive, despite being fairly busy! Thus, what "V" ("...-" in Morse) lacks in food, they make up for in everything else. If Yelp allowed half stars, it would round to a 4.5, but as things are, 5 shiny stars it is! read more

This is kind of a meme bar. The entrance is kind of hidden in the alley to make it look like a speakeasy. The bar was totally packed, but everyone was standing around so we found a table right away. Everyone here was drinking one of the specialty cocktails and taking selfies so that's the type of place it is. The thing is, though, the drinks are really good. So if you can get past the wannabe influencers, then come for the cocktails. read more
It's not too often you order a "sampler" platter and everything taste good but this was one of those exceptions. The shrimp spring rolls were the best thing on the platter and the pork was a close second. I wasn't a huge fan of what was on top of the guac but the chips were fresh and once I slid off the top it was fine. The bar tenders gave great service and seemed super knowledgeable about the drinks. (I hate when bar tenders need to use a recipe book.) For a Sunday night the restaurant was pretty cozy, I was able to sit at the bar with no problem. read more
I love Three Dots & a Dash!! First time I came with friends during a visit to Chicago, we were pleasantly surprised with this amazing hidden venue. This second visit, we came again and the drinks were absolutely amazing. The presentation, service, and ambiance is always a 10/10!! I had the painkiller and also shared the zombie for 2, both were delicious and came with adorable decor. The zombie for two came with a small show lighting it on fire! My friends had the Three Dots & a Dash, and the Toasted Coconut Chi Chi, all of which were also presented with fun decor, and had amazing flavor profiles. I would visit again every time I have a Chicago trip!!! read more

By far the cleanest back way entrance I've ever seen. This place is definitely big but crammed, but for a good reason! Food and drinks are really good, heir MUST GET is the steak skewers, shrimp spring rolls and pork bites!! EXTRA sawsawan dipping sauce PLEASE!! All their staff are really friendly and attentive! They're indeed wheelchair accessible! Oh, bathroom was clean too but their water for hand washing was really hot just be careful! read more

Literally my favorite bar in all of Chicago. I'm a huge tikki drink fan and you can't miss checking this place out when visiting Chicago. Every drink is amazing, the vibes are perfect.
