    i've ordered here for before... is it amazing? no. Is it cheap? yes. After a long shift I decided to order delivery and I ordered lo mein. I received... bare noodles. I was really looking forward to this meal. Called them asking them if there was a mix up... She said no. They are supposed to be plain. Are you kidding? I wish she offered a solution because I just spent a decent amount for cold, bare noodles. Upsetting. Wish there was more clarification. Nothing hurts more than a foodie spending money on bad food.

    This little Chinese cuisine restaurant has good taste. Most say it's not as good. But once you try it for yourself, you are taken back by the delicious ingredients.

    Yelp wants me to help the community decide about Bamboo Garden. (It's a clever ploy to coax more reviews out of us mere mortals.) Um, you asked the wrong guy, so good luck with that, pfft! This garden is currently very peachy inside, with peach walls and peach tabletops. If you're offended by that color palette, do not enter. If you're Princess Peach, you might feel right at home... in name, at least. The food was good all around from a vegetarian perspective. They didn't have mock duck, so we got tofu versions of various dishes, which the photos show. I enjoyed our meals of varying spice levels. Service is excellent and our server always made sure we were doing well and still alive and all that fun stuff. It was quiet inside. We enjoyed it and we hope that you do as well!

    The food was so good! I recommend getting the shrimp with scallops and vegetables. Also, the vegetable dumplings were fire as well. Can be super spicy so be careful

    actually the worst Chinese food I have ever had and INSANELY overpriced. Lo mein and fried rice cannot be purchased as sides so if you want either expect to pay the same cost as a meal. DO NOT SUB THE RICE FOR LO MEIN, it tastes like barilla noodles with nothing on them. Paid 24 dollars for chicken lo mein and egg rolls and am beyond disappointed.

    IMPORTANT INFO: as of 10/17/2020, during COVID-19, they are open until 1 a.m. every day of the week (photo is attached). You might have to call to place an order, but they are definitely open late. Otherwise- the food is decent Americanized Chinese food that occasionally everyone craves even though we hate to admit it. I'm assuming it's similar to the self-loathing that international tourists must feel when they desperately yearn for a bacon cheeseburger with the buns made out of glazed donuts or something. They have egg foo young, which isn't super common in everyday hole-in-the-wall places, and they do it excellently, with a delicious, non-lard-laden gravy that isn't too sweet or too thin. FINALLY FOUND MY EGG FOO YOU. We almost all our stuff. Beef and broccoli: 10/10. Was requested spicy (they sent a little red pepper sauce on the side, which worked out fine). It was cooked perfectly, as flavorful as it could be. Let's be real; it's beef and broccoli. General chow chicken: 7/10. We wished there had been more broccoli and less breading on the chicken. The flavor was on point completely (asked for yo be as hot as possible, nailed it), but there was A LOT of sauce, almost no broccoli, and the extra-breaded chicken absorbed the sauce to the point of ridiculousness). Next time we'll try to find a spicy non-fried chicken dish that has a variety of veggies. Combo egg foo young- 10/10. Nuff said. Hot and sour soup- 10/10 for what it is. Large size, flavor profile on point, exactly what you expect at a fair price point. Crab Rangoon- 6/10. Filling was great.... it was just a small amount of it. We ate it, but wouldn't go back for it. Egg rolls- 12/10. Loved them. Wish they were bigger, but MAN, perfectly cheap and greasy like you find in New York. Pan fried chicken potstickers- 8/10. Fine. We devoured them, but, barring them being poisonous or burnt to a crisp, doesn't everyone devour potstickers? Average with dope dipping sauce. Would try them steamed next time. Overall because of speed, price, and amount of food, doing 5/5 for what it is

The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. Before that, I…read morechecked out a few eateries on the 4th floor of the Nordstrom building, but nothing really stood out, and honestly, none of them seemed very busy and the one restaurant Lao Sze Chuan was way too expensive, $30+ entrees were average and the place wasn't busy at all. So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.
