Takie Outit is unpretentious, Chinese-American comfort food. They treat you like family and the service is always speedy. In the 10 years we've lived in the neighborhood, Takie Outit has been our go-to for quick, consistent, solidly good Chinese takeout. I don't get all the one star reviews. Mmmmmmm, Takie Outit hit the spot. Decently priced, got 3 entrees and 2 appetizers for $35 (including delivery fee). My favorite was the Mongolian Beef, make sure to ask for it spicy. You will not regret ordering the large. It comes with some white rice on the side. The shrimp fried rice was good! I just wish they added more shrimp. The sweet and sour chicken was good and a perfect pairing with the crab rangoon's (I like to dip them into the sauce). This comes with white rice on the side. The sweet and sour chicken could use more peppers and pineapple in the sauce. The pot stickers were delicious and I'm not sure why other people don't agree. I've been ordering from here for over a decade. Something recently changed drastically. I could tell when calling in my order that I wasn't speaking to the restaurant but so some kind of call center who knew nothing about the restaurant. Order was late and calling the number led to more confused people on the other line who had zero details about my order or way to actually contact the restaurant. Food eventually arrives, kind of cold. Everything I ordered I'd ordered before many times. But this food was inedible. Beef and broccoli tasted foul and like it was covered in curry powder. The mushu beef was completely bland, as was the pork fried rice. They accidentally sent me an extra fried rice, but it all tasted so gross I threw it out. $50 down the drain. I had always wondered what treasures like inside. Well this week, we finally tried out their Chinese food to go. Prices are pretty darn good and everything we had ranged from decent to good. I had the Sweet & Sour Pork as my main dish in the lunch special form which you can order at dinner for a little more. It comes with fried rice (or you can sub a few other types of rice for an upcharge), an eggroll & then either a pop or egg drop soup. It's really a pretty great deal! The sweet and sour sauce was fantastic and I wouldn't mind getting it with a different protein next time. Pork can become hard pretty fast when deep fried and that's exactly what happened to mine - it was a bit overcooked. We also had the crab rangoon, 4 for $2.95 which was also decent. The filling was good, I just wish there was a bit more of it in each deep fried piece. The people working here are super friendly which is always nice. I'd definitely come back again to try more on their menu...but am still searching out my deep fried excellence, as well. read more

Under new ownership this year. Very good takeout American Chinese food. Higher quality than many. Like most of these Chinese restaurants, you will find some of their dishes are better than others. I can definitely recommend their Yu Shan shrimp and their Kung Po chicken. Be sure to mention what spice level you prefer. I think their medium is exactly that. Friendly and fast service. I wasn't a frequent patron before but always appreciated how sweet and friendly the old owners were and admit I gave them a sympathy star or two based on that vs. taste of food. Glad to see the new owners posted their menu on their google maps listing and decided to take a chance on their Mapo Tofu(often disappointed) and ordered their Shrimp Kow. Both were really good, especially the Mapo Tofu, the photo on the menu showed the dish was orangey red, as should be(the last owners version was brown) which was encouraging and it was delicious, on the salty side for sure but perfect and full of all the right flavors with rice. Shrimp Kow was also delicious and what I wanted - simple, fresh veggies cooked just soft enough and shrimp. I'm really stoked to finally find a spot so close that will feed my Mapo cravings along with being able to get a decently healthy entree like the Shrimp Kow. I think everyone has a special place in their heart for mediocre Chinese food (sometimes you just need night of binging Netflix and eating cheap take out). Even with our low expectations, Takie Outit was a giant disappointment. The brown rice was dry and hard as a rock. Both chicken dishes we ordered were tough and chewy...not even sure they were real chicken at this point. The egg rolls were super greasy. My husband and I aren't picky eaters...but half of our order ended up in the trash. Thankfully we ordered this from a Grubhub gift card and didn't pay full price. What especially baffles me is that we ordered as soon as the restaurant opened...which means as stale and gross as our food was, I have a sinking suspicion that's the freshest we could've gotten. I glanced at a past review that said "it's a must go destination." NO. Please for the love of all that is good in this world...there are so many superior restaurants in Chicago. I was really craving some American style Chinese food but have been burned in the past by lard filled, clumpy sauces and scary, chewy mystery meat. I was hesitant to try somewhere new, but Takie Outit is so close and priced so fairly I decided to give it a chance. I ordered the Mongolian Beef (Spicy), the Orange Chicken, the Veggie Delight, and the Pot Stickers. The only thing I didn't love was the Pot Stickers. They were a little heavier and doughier than I prefer, but still had a good taste! The entrees I ordered were FABULOUS. Classic, Americanized Chinese food. The meat tasted like it was supposed to taste and was fresh and not fatty. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. The sauces were light, tasty, and all distinctly different. If I had to pick a favorite, I think it was the Mongolian Beef. I definitely recommended getting it Spicy. It really just added a nice kick and taste - it wasn't make-you-cry hot. However the Vegetable Delight and Orange Chicken were also delicious so it's hard to even pick a favorite! The Vegetable Delight was a classic, savory brown sauce over fresh steamed veggies. The sauce was the perfect consistency - not at all too thick or cloying. The Orange Chicken was not a spicy orange chicken and had a delicious and fresh citrus flavor. The meat itself was fresh and not chewy at all. All the entrees I ordered were a size small and came with a pint of white rice. The rice was just rice, nothing special to note but it wasn't bad by any means. The size small is a great serving size for one but is also the perfect size to order multiple entrees to ensure you get all the different flavors. I called ahead of time and the order was ready in the time they estimated (onlten minutes!!) and everything was fresh, hot, and packed nicely to avoid leaks. Wish the eggs rolls were a bit bigger and the Mongolian beef with less onions - both other than that, sooo good! I subsequently changed my mind and immediately called the restaurant to cancel the order. The woman who answered said I had to call GrubHub to not be charged. I followed the instructions and the Grubhub rep said the restaurant refused to refund my order. So, after two hours and several phone calls, I don't have any food and have paid for the experience.
