I recently moved near by and decided to give them a try. I usually go to a spot that has an amazing spicy broccoli chicken lunch special. I got the same thing here only it was very bland. I asked for extra spicy it was not spicy at all and the fried rice also had no flavor and the rice grains weren't cooked all the way through. I discovered China Fast Wok off of a followed yelpers page, Joneice B, a yelper out of Chicago who I continue to discover shared restaurant interests within the area. It became an instant bookmark for a future visit because I am always looking for alternative Chinese restaurants to order from within a radius of where I reside. Via yelp, I ended up ordering a Vegetable Fried Rice w/ a Vegetable Egg Roll for takeout after scrolling through its seemingly never-ending menu online. Ordering via yelp was very convenient because by the time I arrived at China Fast Wok, I had only a brief wait for my order to be completed. Now, China Fast Wok itself sits within a small plaza that I am very familiar with amongst other businesses and restaurants. Parking is free, shared, and there are a decent number of spots available in this tight knit plaza. After walking in and up to the glass window, the employee confirmed my order by asking for my phone number, after I stated my name and ordering platform (Grubhub). Along with a confirmation of when my order would be completed, he answered my question about the Fried Dumpling, confirming that there is no vegetable option. Likely, if it was a vegetable option, I would have ordered it due to recent experience where I fell in love with it. Since then, I have been on the hunt for anything dumpling as long as it is filled with vegetables. My order was completed within a reasonable timeframe, but while waiting, I could not help but take notice of two loud older men in the dining area that smelled like straight alcohol. Moreover, inside, there are a decent number of seats available in the dining area; a dining area that had a peaceful vibe other than the two older men who were clearly intoxicated. As for my food, the Vegetable Egg Roll, and the Vegetable Fried Rice tasted nothing less than good! A satisfying portion was given, even with it being a small. I feel like they pushed it to the limit when it came to cramming the Vegetable Fried Rice inside of its packaging, but I am not complaining. Even though I was hungry, I only ate 50% of the Vegetable Fried Rice, and placed what was left inside of a container to eat for the next day. Has a pretty honest name for a business. It's fast. China Fast Wok is a typical looking carryout. Even though it has indoor seating, there's hardly anyone ever eating inside. The boring atmosphere is a reason, but this is also popular for delivery so many don't actually make it all the way here to get something. After placing an order by phone, I came and got it. It's a pretty nondescript Chinese place in a strip mall. There's only a few tables. Most people seem to get carryout. The menu has a lot of basic Chinese American stuff. Cheap for food. I dropped off my Amazon return, placed my order for Pork Lo Mein (small) and headed over to Sally's. When I returned from getting nail and hair supplies, my order was ready. I ordered pick up here last night on Christmas. While when I arrives there was a line of people waiting, they seemed well organized and I had my food within 15 minutes. My bag was well packed with no spillage and the food was still hot when I got home. I ordered beef chow mein, crab rangoon, egg drop soup, and fried shrimp. I was a little disappointed that the chow mein noodles were the crunchy crouton ones that come in a bag that you sprinkle on. I would have preferred the ones that are actual noodles and crispy. I didnt see any pictures of the chow mein beforehand. I have ordered chow mein at other places and definitely have gotten the type of noodles like last night, it was just that the description on the menu says crispy noodles. Anyways, not the worst thing in the world, and the chow mein still was very good. The beef was well cooked and tender. I really like the crab rangoon here because it is a nice ratio of cream cheese filling and outside crust. The egg drop soup was well flavored and delicious. The fries shrimp were also pretty good. It is also great that this restaurant has a parking lot, so picking up is much easier than other pick up options in the city. With the look of an ice cold assassin I make the walk of shame to this place for the annual tasting. Has China Fast Wok improved enough to become a staple Chinese joint in the Logan/Palmer Square area? When this began years ago they started out at a measly 1/5 stars. Whatever resembling food they served was disgusting and you wondered how they stayed in business. Over the years it's safe to say they've improved dramatically. Walking in they still have the new decor which consists of a few Mahogany tables. I noticed the paper menus had been redesigned this time around. They now look professionally done in the manner of a real restaurant and not like they went to freechinesemenutemplates.ch and picked template #1. I noticed they have put up a huge wall blocking people's view into the kitchen now...take that however you want. After taking my order of the usual Orange Chicken special the cashier said it would be 10 minutes as usual. Turns out it was almost half an hour before I got my food. Whether they were making it extra tasty in anticipation of this review or taking turns playig soccer with my chicken because of the past scathing reviews...the only way to find out is to eat it all! Presentation has remained the same since last year. I noticed in the orange sauce instead of trying a completely new recipe, they just added chili sauce to it...and somehow made it better? I don't get the thought process behind it, but adding the chili sauce to the terrible orange sauce somehow masks the orange sauce itself, resulting in just a bland chili sauce. Chicken wasn't as dry as last year, but still bland and uninspiring. Nonetheless definitely an improvement from the "orange sponge" that was served years ago. The rice actually was good restaurant quality grade this year! I give it a B+! Only thing that kept it from getting that A is that it was soaked in whatever light oil they use (which was definitely, fresh quality oil from the taste of it) to fry the rice in. There was also an extraordinary amount of medium sized shrimp in the rice. For $8 I definitely don't mind what I got as they didn't skimp at all. As always the portions for the specials are HUGE and fill you up. Them actually going from the rice being the worst part to it actually being the best means there's even greater value now. All in all I think they've earned a bump up to 3.5 stars this year from last year's 3. Hopefully they keep working on their recipes and improving things. read more

This is the best inexpensive Chinese restaurant I've found in Logan square! My bf and I ordered delivery and it came in 45 min (as expected). We ordered General Tao's Chicken Dinner Special and we got it with a vegetable egg roll and fried rice. The chicken was crispy, sweet and tangy! I usually stick to the general tso, orange chicken, or the sesame chicken with either lo mein or chicken fried rice - I've ordered these numerous times and haven't been disappointed. I've had other Chinese food spots for delivery and never go back - I used to think the only spot to get Chinese food was on 22nd street in Chinatown but this satisfies me. And you know what, that's perfectly fine with me, because what they do -- inexpensive, Americanized take-out Chinese food -- they do really well. Orange Beef, General Tao's Chicken, Beef Chow Fun, Potstickers, Crab Rangoon -- all have been tasty. Honestly, I haven't had a dish that's been of poor quality. The best thing CFW has going for it, though, is the value. They have Lunch and Dinner Specials that come with an entree, a double heaping of fried rice, an egg roll and a can of pop -- for about $8. I don't know if this is designed for one person or two, but if you can eat EVERYTHING, then I applaud you (I'm a big eater, but I've never come close to finishing the food on my first go around). Plus, they are pretty fast. The only time I've had to wait a little while was on Christmas Day, but that was to be expected -- unlike Jake B., when I ordered, they told me it was going to be an hour, so there was no shock there (SIDENOTE: I think it's completely unfair to tell people to "AVOID" a place because of ONE bad experience on the busiest day of the year -- if it's constantly an issue, then yes, but otherwise, we all make mistakes).
