I've been going to Tasty China since I was 15 years old...I'm 32 now! It's always been my favorite Chinese spot in the city. Recently, the restaurant came under new management, and while the place looks nice, the food just isn't the same anymore. I ordered my usual meal last night, but the beef fried rice was unexpectedly sweet, and the wonton soup had a completely different flavor. For the first time in 15 years, I left feeling disappointed. I'm not sure where the old management went, but I truly hope they're doing well. The place only needed a facelift...sure! But not a new staff and menu change. I'm not one to write reviews, but this genuinely made me sad. It feels like the end of an era. read more

Hours listed online and on the door may not be accurate. I just tried to eat here . The open sign is on and it's already after 12pm and the door was locked and the lady inside at the register didn't even acknowledge me. Seems a little suspect. read more

This was our first time going back after the renovations and re-opened. The food was very good, generous portions, very friendly staff, and food was finished quickly especially considering we had a very large order for a party. We will definitely be back. read more

First of all I would like to start off by saying I lived over here for 20 years and I've been eating from this place majority of my life the Asian lady is so freaking rude it's unbelievable I ordered two shrimp eggrolls and I don't know what the hell was inside... I called to make a complaint and she's trying to argue with me and tell me that it's a shrimp eggroll when I've been getting the same thing all my life from this establishment and never had what I've had tonight I don't know if they're trying to be cheap and cut corners but I know damn well I'm not an idiot and that that was not a fucking shrimp eggroll I do not recommend eating from here they will not be getting any more of my money from this day forward read more

Tasty China - This is supposed to be a shrimp eggroll - Chinese Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

See all

I've had the shrimp and I'm hot garlic sauce plate and it's so good it come with the type of rice you want an amazing egg roll and a free water it's so much food I can't sit and eat a whole plate by my self and always have left overs for the the next day and I never say that bc I'm a torta , defy worth the price read more

The absolute worse Chinese food I have ever had! Vegetables were over cooked, flavorless, everything was cooked in some type of clear goo that tasted like crap. I will never go there again. read more

They have really good food, the Mongolian beef is good, first time trying the shrimp lo mein, and it was worth it read more

Avoid this place. Ordered crab, shrimp, and vegetable chow mein. Got vegetable chow mein. Went back to tell them I got the wrong order, was treated like I was an idiot and I was the one that ordered the wrong thing. No, their system didn't match the online ordering system (which is fine. But they acted like it was all my fault and I'm the idiot). Kept trying to show me the menu and how I was wrong, even though I'm showing my order that clearly shows what my order was. Food might be fine. But the way they assume YOU are the idiot is terrible. read more

I love the shrimp friend rice here, I prefer the smaller shrimp so it's perfect. The shrimp egg fu young is really good also, really love everything I've tried here. read more

The food is good. Customer service however is horrible. The lady at front is always rude and has an attitude and even hangs up when asking questions. Also, food is never ready when they say it will be and realistically they aren't located in a good area to be waiting like that. I hope they change that and be more honest about their wait time. read more

Great food. A bit on the heavy side but great overall. Make sure to call and order ahead because they're usually busy with phone orders. I wouldn't show up and order unless you have some time to wait. read more

Maggot fried Rice! I have eaten here a few times and have never had any complaints until now that is. I have always ordered lunch specials (fried rice and orange chicken or mongolian beef). Well this time was a very different my food had a very different kind of rice. The rice had maggots. The rice looked a little different in texture, size, and shape, so I looked a little closer and did some research and that is exactly what it was. The rice was mixed with maggots. I would really suggest that you look at your food from now on when you order from here. read more

Best Chinese food ever!!! I will only eat here everything is always delicious and always delivered fast!

This is by far the worse place I've been. After waiting 32 minutes for an order that I was told would be ready in 15 minutes. The lady behind the counter totally disnt even acknowledge me at the counter. She answered the phone four different time without even asking how can I help you. Once helped she completely ignored the fact that I wanted to know how much longer the order would take. They have okay food but I strongly recommend going to SEE THRU CHINESE KITCHEN on 800 N Kedzie where they at least speak. read more

Don't do it. So bad. Sooooo bad. Everything looked and smelled weird. Spent 35 bucks and I'm throwing out everything but the wonton soup. Doesn't help that they're super rude lol read more

Solid orange chicken, shrimp lo mein and egg drop soup. Strawberry smoothie was a bit too sweet for me, but there is an option for less sugar. Great value for all the food! read more

Ok, so just having moved back to (grew up here) Humbold park from Wrigley Ville (and by just I mean a year ago -=O ) I had a hankering for some chinese food. And me, being super picky about my chinese food, I was a bit nervous having never seen a decent looking place in HP. Soooo, I got on yelp, read the few reviews on this place, and decided to take a chance on a frumpy looking place! Imagine how super excited I was when: 1) it was a little over $14 for 2 ginormous dinner specials that could have easily lasted us a week were I the type to eat left overs for days. (included egg rolls and sodas!) 2) They delivered in the time they promised. and 3) It was f'n good!!!! def will be ordering from here whenever the chinese food bug bites read more

Venue = clean. Staff = very friendly. Parking = ample lot. Fried Rice = comes complete with random chunks of hard, completely uncooked (raw) rice. "Chicken" = *extremely* low-grade - even by cheap Chinese take-out standards - and served rather soggy with an odd, unnatural spongy texture (eaten in-house, no traveling). The heavily embedded, pre-flash freeze artificial seasonings added to the "chicken" will easily over-power and clash with any sauce...objective = shield the quality of the meat. read more

Every once in a while I lose my mind and go back here for food. I have no idea why. It's utterly mediocre Chinese, pretty much the same as a million places all over the city, and I regret it every time I order something off the menu. The lunch specials are a perfectly good deal and perhaps the only reason to drop by this place. Otherwise, ordering full-size portions is a real waste of money and an insult to your tastebuds. Blech. Never again. read more

Scenario A: You want really great Chinese food. You go across the street to Golden Chef. Scenario B: You want Chinese food but have to buy enough to have late-night munchies AND lunch for work the next day? You come here. Scenario C: You want Chinese food but you have to buy enough to have late-night munchies AND lunch for work the next day AND you are feeding an entire barracks? You come here. I ordered their Chicken Lo Mein and got a large-- bad freakin' idea. The container was (and I'm not exaggerating) just shy of a gallon container. WTF?! The food's okay, great for the price, however the egg rolls are sub-par. To be realistic, I'm just happy there's a place that won't insist that I order plantains and rice in my neighborhood (but don't get me wrong, I love all the food trucks in the park!) read more

I give this a Meh, not because the food is necessarily bad, but just because there is really nothing that makes it stand out to me. This place, along with Golden Chef across the street are virtually identical cookie-cutter Chinese fast food joints. From the menu and pricing all the way to the actual food itself. If you live in the hood this stuff is totally decent, just don't expect to get the equivalent of your favorite Chinese restaurant. TIP: While it may appear that Golden Chef and Tasty China are your only two Chinese options in Humboldt Park, you can actually order from Lee's Chop Suey which has REALLY solid fast food Chinese. Or if you're a real baller you could have some Papajin or Friendship delivered. read more

Although the orange chicken was pretty good, the combination fried rice was somehow undercook. Shrimps where cold almost completely raw. I will not go there again only went there because my preferred location was closed. read more

I am not a big fan of this place. There are only 2 Chinese places anywhere near by here and they other one is way better! When they opened I tried there food and I mean the food was more expensive and it tasted pretty bad ... So then I thought they would have improved since they have been in the same place for a long time so I gave them another chance and I mean I think I was more disappointed ... It was that bad I couldn't even finish my order. I live egg rolls and these were just plain nasty !!! read more

Wow. I can say I have had very 'eh' experiences with finding decent Chinese food in and near Logan Square. This place is really good. LOTS of food, reasonable prices, and hey - it actually tastes good. I could smell it in the other room before I tore myself away from the computer and I was very pleased. They did quote 30 minutes for delivery (I'm about 6 blocks away) and it was really more like 45, but I'm not complaining. It was just so, so good. I am usually not this lucky. Watch this stuff be like, horse meat or something...just my luck. EDIT 4/12/08: Not taking off any stars for this, but HOLY FREAKING HELL, PEOPLE: if I ask specifically for chopsticks, please do include them and not the pansy-ass plastic forks from Flimsytown! I've asked for chopsticks every time I've ordered and I've never once received them! P.S. love you and your mu shu, baby ;) read more

I've been a regular for some time. So I know it's your basic cheap fast Chinese food. With that being said I'm just in here to warn others. I found a maggot on my food. I'm disgusted and enraged. No one should ever have to go through this. If I could give this place zero stars I would. read more

They have a really great lunch special. We have ordered it to-go many times. You get a lot for $6...main dish, huge portion of shrimp fried rice, a big chicken egg roll and a soda pop! We always have left overs for later or lunch tmrw. They are super friendly and they take phone orders for pick up or delivery. We often order ahead and are in and out. First of all for all you haters sayin Tasty China isn't the best Chinese food in the world. Well, DUH. It's in a strip mall; however, Tasty China is the best thing going on North between Western and Kimball bar none!. First: I would eat General Tso's Tofu off their kitchen floor. I have never seen a cleaner kitchen in my whole life, and I've worked in plenty. Two: they have a "vegetables" section on the menu. This is my biggest test when approaching Chinese take-out. I'm vegan, and they're sportin a veggie section. 'Nuff said. C:Wanna talk fast and friendly service? The two ladies on the phone get right to the point without coming off as rude. I've never been so delighted to be asked, "What you want?" And the guys standing at the woks crank that food out in ten minutes. It doesn't matter what you order or how busy they are, your food will be done in under 15-amazing. I live really close to this place, and by the time I walk there, my food is ready. And finally, the food is consistent and delicious. General Tso's Tofu is BOMB. You get 2.5 meals out of it for like $8. How can you beat that? If you a veggie living near North and Kedzie and haven't become a slave to this food, it's not too late. Thank you Tasty China for being an amazingly veg friendly and consistently great part of my week. BTW, don't eat at Golden Chef, it's grimy and sucks. read more

Stick to the veggie options and you'll be good! They recently added tofu to their menu which is a huge plus.

Don't let the three stars fool you. Tasty China is great for what it is but I wouldn't go here unless it was a matter of convenience. The value is ridiculously good. I think I paid around $5 for the sesame chicken and it was probably enough to feed a family of five...that's $1 a person!!! BUT instead it fed a family of one (me) over the course of three nights. read more

Great food, large portions, good for left overs. We eat there twice a month. We always seem to get the same thing every time.

Just tried this for the first time and was very surprised. I suppose my expectations were set low to begin with since I wanted Chinese delivery and of the two other options i had, one had given me food poisoning and the other one the staff were so rude i vowed to never return. Being that I am a man with a spirit of adventure I ordered from here. I got a truckload of food because - as i had never had it before - i assumed i wouldnt like at least some of what i ordered so wanted variety. The stars must have aligned that night because I like it all! Every dish I got was hot and good, and made great leftovers too. I would go so far as to say its some of the best "cheap" chinese food ive had in the city. Naturally its not going to beat china town or sun wah or friendship, but i never expected it to. For the price, its the best game in the Logan area. The only reason i didnt give 5 stars was because I would have to get it again to be sure it wasnt a fluke. Fingers crossed! read more

This place was horrible. i legit threw up all the fried rice and there orange chicken was disgusting.. Omg terrible read more

I have to say this isn't the best Chinese food you'll ever eat, but its by far not the worst! I will say though its location is pretty sketch! Ever since the Dunkin Donuts moved down the street the parking lot of this strip mall-esque location has become a little scary! Try the delivery....its twice as convenient with only half the drug dealers! But seriously, the delivery is pretty quick! read more

My coworkers and I have become scarily addicted to this place. We are particularly addicted to their orange chicken lunch special (which comes with a can of soda for $6). I've tried chinese foods all over lakeview, uptown, and now Edison Park and Park Ridge, and I love how much this taste like the cheap chinese food I'm used to eating when I lived in the east coast. It's definitely not gourmet but it definitely hits the spot. By the way, we always pick up so that we don't have to wait for the food. read more
