I have been coming to Ms. Egg Roll since July at a friend's suggestion for neighborhood cuisine. The owner is diligent and passionate about cooking. I always order the chicken and vegetables and the beef and vegetables. These proteins are always soft and flavorful and the veggies are crisp, which retains their nutritional content. I am also in love with Ms. Egg Roll's chicken wings and egg rolls, as their taste is on par with other established Asian restaurants. read more

I recommend the Mongolian beef lunch special with fried rice. It's greasy, perfect takeout Chinese. Miss Egg Roll herself if a delightfully nice person as well. Tip her. read more

Amazing food ! This is the Chinese food you want after a long day. Huge huge portions and it's run by the NICEST woman. Crab rangoons are 10/10. Dinners and lunches come with crab rangoons read more

Old school Chicago Chinese food. The place is more of a take out spot, minimal seating. The food is delicious and prepared quick. Friendly service each time I've been there. House combination fried rice and egg rolls are my favorite. Cash only. read more

Great food, great eggrolls, and the owner is a very good cook. She's so sweet! The food is delicious and the eggrolls are the biggest and tastiest I've ever had in my life. I would recommend this restaurant. read more

Excellent lunch deal. I paid $8 (including tax) for good sized portion of kung pao chicken and 2 Crab Rangoon. This lady works hard 7 days a week. Please support! read more

I am so upset and disappointed. I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid, and everything used to be really good, unfortunately, the past couple years it has really started to decline. A couple of the only things that we could still eat from there were the crab sticks with cheese and the sweet and sour chicken, however, this time, it was totally inedible. The supposed crab sticks weren't even the right thing, and I have no idea what they are, but, beyond that, they were so burned and greasy that they weren't even edible had they been the right thing. The chicken was just weird, oily/greasy, not cooked properly, not breaded properly, and limp, not crispy at all. I tried to eat one and it tasted terrible, like burnt, bitter, oily chicken. The rice wasn't even right, and it's just plain rice! I am so extremely disappointed that it has gotten this bad, and I'm baffled at how they have raised their prices so high for inedible food! I am out $25 and I AM HUNGRY! read more

Everything she makes there is just extra good sweet-and-sour sauce for the sweet-and-sour chicken. You can't get anything like that downtown. It's really good. The eggrolls are huge big shrimp inside two dollars each. They're very delicious I wish more people would go here. It's a dive but the food is really good. In my opinion I come up from downtown just to get them. read more

I've been coming here for YEARS. The lady here is one of the hardest workers ever, and her food is delicious. I had the Satee Beef Lunch Special today with 2 crab rangoons. So delicious! A little spicy and that sauce goes amazing with rice. Demolished it. I've heard she caters amazing traditional Vietnamese food as well from around the grapevine, but if you're looking for a quick bite, the food is delicious, quick and cheap. read more

I love their food. It's priced very affordable too. Also the lady owner is so nice and greets her customers and holds a pleasant conversation. read more

Not good...not cheap. Would not recommend. Orange chicken was somehow too wet but still very dry and over cooked. Brown rice has too much onion, veggie eggroll a were not edible. Everything was really gross. I was hoping it would be good even though the inside was dingy but it was not. Never again. read more

I've been goin to Ms. Egg Roll, same location, since 1998. This is excellent, cheap eatin!! This is the same woman that came to my rescue in 2001 when I had food poisoning. All I could hold down was vegetable fried rice & sprite. She had a delivery driver deliver this everyday for two weeks til I got better. When I got back to working, she gave me an amount, which was less than eating her food everyday for two weeks. After that I figured I owe this lady. I still eat there. I don't really go to any other place but her. You get a LOT for the money, her prices rarely change. I don't even think she adjusts for inflation. The menu is pretty much the same throughout the years. Everything is fresh made. It's a little wait when you order coz of that, but worth the wait. For $20 you can really rack up. Her food is such that you can never get tired of it. So it's what I eat every Saturday night for dinner since it's lonely ol' me. She used to have two locations but I guess it got too much for her to handle. This is the main hangout. She only accepts cash so stop by the atm on the way there. Best to go there right when she opens or no later than 4pm coz after that look out!! There have been a few times I've seen a line outside the door. You won't find her on doordask, grubhub or anything like that. She's old school (which is great). Call, get delivery, pay at door. The end. You will NOT regret eating here. It's wonderful to see she survived the covid thing & still in business. Swing by & give it a try or order by phone. The food is just that good. YAY!! read more

Egg roll alert Ms. Egg rolls filling so clean tasting and home made fresh taste. Great ratio of filling to tasty, flaky crust. So affordable. Nice couple who own the restaurant. FYI: it's cash only. I'm not going back anywhere else for my egg rolls. Didn't try other stuff yet--because I stuff myself with the best egg rolls. read more

Ms. Egg Roll is exactly that. When you walk in there is always the single lady who I assume is the owner and the only cook. She is extremely nice and welcoming, always willing to help with suggestions. As prices have gone through the roof you can still get a delicious five dollar lunch special here cooked fresh to order. This is Chinese with Vietnamese dishes also. Try her special Vietnamese beef dish which you will fall in love with. The curry chicken lunch special is addicting too. One day I asked her for a coconut based soup which is not on the menu, something like Tom Kha. She sent me away with a huge portion of delicious soup for my dinner. One last thing, the egg rolls are home made and HUGE! Support this lady and her small business, you will be glad you did! read more

After waiting 25 minutes, DoorDash canceled our order from another Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day. So we googled Chinese restaurants nearby and Miss Egg Roll was the first listing. We called them, and 10 minutes later we picked up delicious Chinese food. The portions were huge, the service was fast and friendly and they were super close to home. This place is a neighborhood gem and we'll be back. read more

Let's start with the good news. A lot of the items on their menu are really tasty, and come in a pretty generous portion for the price. I love the shrimp lo mein, and I've NEVER loved lo mein before (I wanted something that would be easy to eat out of a container, on the el, and noodles won over rice). The shrimp were a great size, and I got more than just a few of them -- win! The curry chicken is pretty good, too, but not as spicy as I expected. The fried rices, of all varieties, are better than standard. The pepper beef is really tasty, and came with tomatoes in addition to my usual green peppers -- yum! The crab rangoon is pretty good, although on their menu its called both crab "gagoon" and crab "gangoo". I don't really know what that's all about... And, you have to specifically ask for that neon-red dipping sauce that comes with it, otherwise they'll just give you packets of duck sauce. Also, when you ask for the neon-red sauce, they will pretend not to know what you mean for a few moments, and then try to take away your duck sauce (as if you can't have both). It takes a little persuasion. The egg rolls, however, I think are pretty gross. They might be stuffed with canned tuna fish. I would have thought that "Miss Egg Roll" herself could do better. Maybe this is what egg rolls are supposed to taste like, and I'm too Americanized to know it? Well, it's all a matter of taste, and these aren't mine. The whole place is dingy and hot, but I kind of like it. Last time I went in, there was an old guy attacking the buttons on some kind of slot machine or video poker game, pretty funny. Step in, get some cheap Chinese, and take it home (I only live 1/2 block away). It probably IS the best Chinese in Uptown, but we don't have a lot of really good choices right now... You get bang for your buck, for sure -- and that buck better be cash, no credit cards! read more

Was in the neighborhood, after leaving Truman College; seen the "ms. eggroll" sign, and decided to stop in. I ended up ordering chicken fried rice, which was very good, but the eggroll wasn't! I ended up tossing one out from the fire escape for the rats to enjoy. The place itself looked a little ghetto inside. Not a good place, if your intent is to dine in! There ain't enough seats inside, if you have a group. It could be better! The outside of the place looks better than the inside, but anyway. I'd definitely grab takeout from this place again, but wouldn't order eggrolls again. As for customer service, it was great! I'm sure this was mentioned in other reviews, but this place only accepts cash only. There is also a store next door with an ATM. Enjoy! read more

I'm sorry but why are you only accepting cash in 2022!?!? One of those square readers for cards are very cheap and inexpensive to maintain. I'm not about to go stop by an ATM and potentially pay a $3-$5 fee just to get some food, that's absolutely stupid. Catch up!!! read more

It only took her ten minutes to make my meal, and it tasted hot and fresh. I got chicken and vegetable soup, a large sweet and sour chicken, and two egg rolls for only $15. The egg rolls are great read more

The nicest worker and great prices. Yummy fried rice and beef and broccoli plate. We usually take it to go.

Old school American Chinese / Vietnamese fast food. Reminiscent of the common late 80s Chinese food shops. They expect cash only, but they're also very quick with most orders. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes. It's generally considered take-out, but they have a table that's often taken up by their regulars. Tip: If you don't have cash, the dollar store next to it has an ATM. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for years, the lady cook use to be friendly, well she hasn't been lately she been kind of snappy when I use to order my shrimp fried rice she use to give me lots of shrimp, now I notice it's less shrimp and a bunch of rice, the restaurant has like 2 sitting table in there, which be nasty they don't take the time to wash it,and they have sitting stools which needs updating, they keep the doors open which keep the flies bugs coming in,I guess they don't have a.c, overall the food is good and reasonable. read more

The only place open for delivery on Jan 1st at 11am.... I should have waited until noon. This was awful... the SHRIMP WASN'T DEVEINED!!!!!!!! Not even in the EGG ROLL at MISS EGG ROLL!! Not only was the shrimp in the Egg Roll & Shrimp Fried Rice not deveined but the food was just plain awful. I couldn't even eat it... now that's saying a lot, especially when you've been dieting to fit into your NYE dress and that champagne hangover is screaming "I NEED GREASY CHINESE!" read more

My family buys from her all the time for family gatherings. She's extremely nice and the food is always delicious!

This review is for Miss Egg Roll's awesome delivery service. If I wanted to speak in detail to someone four times I would have left my house to venture into the world of idiots instead of ordering food. I was asked directions from their location to my house........How am I supposed to know where their stupid restaurant is? You're a Chinese restaurant, %95 of your business is delivery, figure it out, don't call me 4 times, Peterson and Western are major streets. When she somehow found my apartment building she ignored my instructions to ring the bell and made me walk down 3 flights of stairs to get my food. When I unwrapped it, sauce spilled all over me and my carpet, the boxes were overfilled and incorrectly packaged. So thanks Miss Egg Roll for setting the bar so low that you make literally all other delivery services look freakin fantastic. I would rather talk to the wing place back in Georgia that would cuss me out if I didn't speak clearly enough for them to understand, because at least they had really good wings. You're food is just average.....actually the beef stew was pretty good but in no way worth the trouble. read more

This place is disgusting. Ordered take out and sat at a table that they had when a ROACH begins to crawl along the wall. Threw away my food and left. The woman that was there went missing and there was an old man and I told him there was a roach but didn't do anything. Left mad and hungry. This is seriously the worst place ever. read more

I just moved across the street from this spot. I decided to check it out last night for a dinner of chicken and vegetables fried rice. They were just closing but I never knew this information until I was leaving and asked what time they closed. They made my fried rice a la minute and with a smile! The vegetables were slightly blanched and the chicken was still juicy believe it or not. Also, I ordered a small and was given a large (not like I needed it, but it was still nice). The rice was great, I will definitely be back to experience more of there menu which obviously has a lot of heart put into it. read more

This place has ROACHES. Whatever you do, despite its low prices, don't eat at this restaurant --unless, of course, you don't mind eating from a place that has been found to be infested with cockroaches multiple times, among other complaints. In the start of 2018, for more than a month, this restaurant was closed when the City's Department of Health inspected it and found over 200 cockroaches there --some of which were dead and found on top of PANS and other cooking ware. Reading the inspection report made my skin crawl. The restaurant manager and owner placed a sign on the door indicating that the staff were "on vacation," as opposed to admit wrongdoing and promising to customers to never fail an inspection again. According to a report from the City's website for Restaurant and Food Service Inspection Reports, this place has failed inspections a bunch of time for cleanliness-oriented issues. If you're doubtful, google "Chicago Restaurant and Food Service Inspection Reports" and find out. you might have to do some digging. Reader discretion is advised. Eat here at your own risk. read more

Good food good people not advertised like big places the food will keep you going back they are my favorite now

When I lived in Uptown, this was my go-to place for cheap Chinese (for more expensive, try Wing Ho further north on Sheridan). Their food is nothing super-special, but their service is quick (if you call ahead) for take-out, food is yummy, if a bit greasy. Of course, that's to be expected, it's cheap take-out Chinese food from a strip mall in Uptown, dammit. Their delivery is usually SUPER quick, even if you don't live particularly close. They're not open too late (hardly any of these places are). read more

Good chinese food for cheap, food is available quickly. It's not high quality, but it is tasty.

usually this restaurant food is good, but saturday, march 27th, the shrimp fried rice small was burnt.

This is our "go to" for take away Chinese. The staff are friendly and if you are a regular like us she recognizes you. Love that! The eggrolls are some of the best, we always order pork fried rice and then we get Mongolian beef or Szechuan or Kung pao chicken or Moo shoo pork or shrimp in lobster sauce or egg foo young and it's always delish. Give them a call for lunch or dinner tonight. P.S. cash only read more
