I am so upset and disappointed. I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid, and everything used to be really good, unfortunately, the past couple years it has really started to decline. A couple of the only things that we could still eat from there were the crab sticks with cheese and the sweet and sour chicken, however, this time, it was totally inedible. The supposed crab sticks weren't even the right thing, and I have no idea what they are, but, beyond that, they were so burned and greasy that they weren't even edible had they been the right thing. The chicken was just weird, oily/greasy, not cooked properly, not breaded properly, and limp, not crispy at all. I tried to eat one and it tasted terrible, like burnt, bitter, oily chicken. The rice wasn't even right, and it's just plain rice! I am so extremely disappointed that it has gotten this bad, and I'm baffled at how they have raised their prices so high for inedible food! I've been goin to Ms. Egg Roll, same location, since 1998. This is excellent, cheap eatin!! This is the same woman that came to my rescue in 2001 when I had food poisoning. All I could hold down was vegetable fried rice & sprite. She had a delivery driver deliver this everyday for two weeks til I got better. When I got back to working, she gave me an amount, which was less than eating her food everyday for two weeks. After that I figured I owe this lady. I still eat there. I don't really go to any other place but her. You get a LOT for the money, her prices rarely change. I don't even think she adjusts for inflation. The menu is pretty much the same throughout the years. Everything is fresh made. It's a little wait when you order coz of that, but worth the wait. For $20 you can really rack up. Her food is such that you can never get tired of it. So it's what I eat every Saturday night for dinner since it's lonely ol' me. She used to have two locations but I guess it got too much for her to handle. This is the main hangout. She only accepts cash so stop by the atm on the way there. Best to go there right when she opens or no later than 4pm coz after that look out!! There have been a few times I've seen a line outside the door. You won't find her on doordask, grubhub or anything like that. She's old school (which is great). Call, get delivery, pay at door. The end. You will NOT regret eating here. Ms. Egg Roll is exactly that. When you walk in there is always the single lady who I assume is the owner and the only cook. She is extremely nice and welcoming, always willing to help with suggestions. As prices have gone through the roof you can still get a delicious five dollar lunch special here cooked fresh to order. This is Chinese with Vietnamese dishes also. Try her special Vietnamese beef dish which you will fall in love with. The curry chicken lunch special is addicting too. One day I asked her for a coconut based soup which is not on the menu, something like Tom Kha. She sent me away with a huge portion of delicious soup for my dinner. We called them, and 10 minutes later we picked up delicious Chinese food. The portions were huge, the service was fast and friendly and they were super close to home. Was in the neighborhood, after leaving Truman College; seen the "ms. eggroll" sign, and decided to stop in. I ended up ordering chicken fried rice, which was very good, but the eggroll wasn't! I ended up tossing one out from the fire escape for the rats to enjoy. The place itself looked a little ghetto inside. Not a good place, if your intent is to dine in! There ain't enough seats inside, if you have a group. It could be better! The outside of the place looks better than the inside, but anyway. I'd definitely grab takeout from this place again, but wouldn't order eggrolls again. As for customer service, it was great! Let's start with the good news. A lot of the items on their menu are really tasty, and come in a pretty generous portion for the price. I love the shrimp lo mein, and I've NEVER loved lo mein before (I wanted something that would be easy to eat out of a container, on the el, and noodles won over rice). The shrimp were a great size, and I got more than just a few of them -- win! The curry chicken is pretty good, too, but not as spicy as I expected. The fried rices, of all varieties, are better than standard. The pepper beef is really tasty, and came with tomatoes in addition to my usual green peppers -- yum! The crab rangoon is pretty good, although on their menu its called both crab "gagoon" and crab "gangoo". I don't really know what that's all about... And, you have to specifically ask for that neon-red dipping sauce that comes with it, otherwise they'll just give you packets of duck sauce. Also, when you ask for the neon-red sauce, they will pretend not to know what you mean for a few moments, and then try to take away your duck sauce (as if you can't have both). It takes a little persuasion. The egg rolls, however, I think are pretty gross. They might be stuffed with canned tuna fish. I would have thought that "Miss Egg Roll" herself could do better. Maybe this is what egg rolls are supposed to taste like, and I'm too Americanized to know it? Well, it's all a matter of taste, and these aren't mine. The whole place is dingy and hot, but I kind of like it. Last time I went in, there was an old guy attacking the buttons on some kind of slot machine or video poker game, pretty funny. Step in, get some cheap Chinese, and take it home (I only live 1/2 block away). It probably IS the best Chinese in Uptown, but we don't have a lot of really good choices right now... You get bang for your buck, for sure -- and that buck better be cash, no credit cards! read more

I was asked directions from their location to my house........How am I supposed to know where their stupid restaurant is? You're a Chinese restaurant, %95 of your business is delivery, figure it out, don't call me 4 times, Peterson and Western are major streets. When she somehow found my apartment building she ignored my instructions to ring the bell and made me walk down 3 flights of stairs to get my food. When I unwrapped it, sauce spilled all over me and my carpet, the boxes were overfilled and incorrectly packaged. So thanks Miss Egg Roll for setting the bar so low that you make literally all other delivery services look freakin fantastic. I would rather talk to the wing place back in Georgia that would cuss me out if I didn't speak clearly enough for them to understand, because at least they had really good wings. This place has ROACHES. Whatever you do, despite its low prices, don't eat at this restaurant --unless, of course, you don't mind eating from a place that has been found to be infested with cockroaches multiple times, among other complaints. In the start of 2018, for more than a month, this restaurant was closed when the City's Department of Health inspected it and found over 200 cockroaches there --some of which were dead and found on top of PANS and other cooking ware. Reading the inspection report made my skin crawl. The restaurant manager and owner placed a sign on the door indicating that the staff were "on vacation," as opposed to admit wrongdoing and promising to customers to never fail an inspection again. According to a report from the City's website for Restaurant and Food Service Inspection Reports, this place has failed inspections a bunch of time for cleanliness-oriented issues. If you're doubtful, google "Chicago Restaurant and Food Service Inspection Reports" and find out. you might have to do some digging. Reader discretion is advised. I just moved across the street from this spot. I decided to check it out last night for a dinner of chicken and vegetables fried rice. They were just closing but I never knew this information until I was leaving and asked what time they closed. They made my fried rice a la minute and with a smile! The vegetables were slightly blanched and the chicken was still juicy believe it or not. Also, I ordered a small and was given a large (not like I needed it, but it was still nice). The rice was great, I will definitely be back to experience more of there menu which obviously has a lot of heart put into it. read more

Their food is nothing super-special, but their service is quick (if you call ahead) for take-out, food is yummy, if a bit greasy.
