I used to live in Andersonville, and about five years ago, while searching for highly rated Vietnamese restaurants around Argyle, I came across this place. I remember trying their traditional noodle dish and, of course, their Vietnamese coffee. Fast forward to this year, I finally came back, and I'm so glad I did. The coffee flight was the highlight of my visit. It was such a fun way to experience different takes on their traditional Vietnamese coffee, and every cup was delicious. Their deconstructed bánh mì was also fantastic, creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I'm happy to say this place is just as good as I remembered, if not better. The soft shell crab was amazing and cooked well, the papaya salad was good. As for the banh beo, it was decent but felt a bit plain. We ordered the Bun thit nuong, pho bo, mi quang, Banh mi chao, and banh beo chen. The banh beo chen was definitely our favorite. We've never had it before so it was a pleasant, tasty surprise! The bun and mi quang were also pretty solid. The banh mi chao was decent but they were sadly out of the bone marrow when we went. The pho was okay but there's definitely better pho in the area. We also tried the egg coffee which I thought was super delicious! DaNang Kitchen has a more unique menu compared to some of the other Viet restaurants around, so I definitely recommend trying it out! Papaya salad with soft shell crab was a daily special and was incredible. Soft shell crab was perfectly fried and papaya salad had great flavor, it was just pricey for the portion. As someone who mostly only orders pho, I was so excited to try something new. Unfortunately they didn't have their beef noodle soup. With such a small menu I wasn't sure what else to get, but was recommended the mi quang since that was the only other soup besides pho, though its supposed to not have a lot of broth. It was very mid. Pretty mild flavor and the noodles were overcooked, and because they're on the thicker side it made it worse. I loved the fresh greens, almonds, and the sesame cracker, but the noodles itself would be a hard pass. Very mellow compared to other viet dishes I've tried. The service was great though and i'd come back to try their appetizers as that is what lured me to this place. But if you like intense flavors this dish would not be it. read more

I ended up ordering the Pho Chay with a Thai tea. The Thai tea was super creamy, they must have used coconut cream or something. Our group of 4 really enjoyed our dinner at this cozy, mom and pop place! There's easy parking around the corner and we were seated right away at the window table. The service was friendly and with good timing. We aren't familiar with Vietnamese cuisine so there was a bit of guesswork with the entrees. They were are all very good, from the grilled pork cutlet with rice and veggies to the veggie and rice platter, vermicelli bowl with shrimp, and spring rolls. That was fantastic! We saw a TikTok review and decided to check it out. We've been burned by TikTok reviews before so we were hopeful but unsure. I got the signature noodle and my date for the short ribs and bone marrow dish. We also got the spring rolls with almond dipping sauce (they use almond butter instead of peanut butter) which was straightforwardly delicious, and I got the yuzu lemonade and he got the strawberry smoothie. My friends and I decided to go family-style ordered the following: - Banh Khot: tasty, crisp, lighter than other places I've been to (4/5) - Banh Beo Chen: came out fresh, well-steamed, delicious and balanced in texture (4/5) - Com Tam Suon Cha: absolutely yummy! While it's a common dish at many Vietnamese places, the pork was glazed and cooked without heaviness to it. (5/5) - Mi Quang Noodles: this is the popular dish/specialty! My friends and I agreed that it was good, but we wish there was a little more broth in the dish to expand on the flavor. Definitely would recommend this place if you're looking for a Vietnamese place with a smaller menu and specialized dishes! The food was good and we were able to leave without feeling groggy. DaNang always looks packed when I walk by, but it was almost empty when we stopped in. Service was super quick and our food came out almost immediately. We split a bbq pork banh mi - the flavors were all great (salty and sweat, with a nice kick from the jalepeño), but I felt like there was less meat than most places. We also tried the Vietnamese iced coffee which was delicious much sweeter than I'd personally prefer (but that's just me - my brother loved it). For our mains, we tried the beef noodle soup and the signature noodle with pork and shrimp. The signature noodle was my fav part of the meal - had the chewiest noodles and most delicious sauce. I first ate here in 2021 and I loved eating here - got the Mi Quang Tom Thit (Danang signature noodle) and the turmeric chicken and rice. Both were so delicious and next time I come here I'll be torn between getting what I know I love and trying out so many of the other delicious sounding things on the menu. I've been here a few times since I first came in 2021 and I still love this spot. This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Was craving a bowl of pho and decided to try some at DaNang Kitchen. This was our first time at DaNang and the reviews look pretty good so my friend and I were excited to try it. We ordered a bowl of the pho dac biet which is their combination pho that came with Rare Steak, Fat Brisket, Beef Meatballs, and Short Rib. Pho was delicious, but nothing too spectacular. We also ordered some potstickers which were decent. (Nothing too crazy) Had to deduct a star because my friend and I were standing in the empty restaurant for five minutes without any one attending to us or acknowledging us (we even considered leaving at some point because of this). We ordered pickup for dinner. They initially said 25 minutes, but we got there a bit early and it was already finished. I had the banh mi, sea salt coffee, and a few of my husband's shrimp cakes. We also ordered the egg coffee and the mi quang. Banh mi: 4 stars - the flavor was really good. The bread was perfectly crispy. My only complaint would be that it was a little small, but I expected it to be since it was listed as a "small plate". Sea salt coffee: 5 stars - delicious. Shrimp cakes: 4 stars - these were ok. My husband really liked them, but they didn't have much flavor in my opinion. They did have huge whole shrimp through which was nice. The egg coffee was not for me. It was both too bitter and too sweet at the same time. We added a bit of milk to it when we got it home and it was pretty good. The mi quang was just ok. It smelled really good, but somehow the flavor was not as present as the smell suggested. Again though it had really big chunks of meat in it which is always a plus. I do love when a restaurant doesn't skimp on the meat portions in their dishes. All in all, I really like this place and would definitely go back. Upon recommendation by Vietnamese friends, opted for the mi quang with chicken and shrimp (also asked for extra broth). Found another great Asian place on Argyle. It's pretty easy to do so. DaNang specializes in food from the central Vietnamese region, so you can find some of the more familiar items. Of course there's pho. The inside is kind of small but there's a patio area that's open in good weather. After trying a few other places in this area, we came here. It was pretty good weather so we sat on the patio. The menu is pretty much the typical Vietnamese. Has the familiar items. There's banh mi and pho. I got the Pho Chay, because it's one of the few items that are vegetarian. It's about $14, which is kind of a lot. This is especially a lot for a soup. Fortunately they put a lot into it. There's the noodles, plus lots of tofu and vegetables. Good flavor. This is even better by adding a spice. She had the Bun Chay. This is fried tofu noodles. Good amount of noodles. There also were cucumbers, pickles, and tomatoes. Good stuff to get here. It has kind of high prices, which is the only bad thing about it. We regret our previous choice because this one tasted so much more like Vietnamese coffee! I've ordered take out from here once, and more recently, dined at this location on their patio during Argyle Nights (Thursdays in the summer). The first take out experience, the food came in an okay timely manner, but the food was just meh to me. Nothing exciting. The most recent time for dinning in, the place was packed (especially take out orders). Oddly, we had to order at the front and then they told us to keep checking back to see when our order was ready. Kind of a weird system considering there was someone coming out and cleaning tables and who looked like they were bringing out food to other guests. Anyways, our food took quiteeeee a while. A lot longer than they had quoted. Eventually we got our food brought out to us, but in all to-go packaging, which was annoying considering we told them we were dining in. The food itself was good, but I don't know if I would justify paying $18 for their shrimp/crabs appetizer given the amount you receive. My go to for Mi Quang whenever I visit Chicago! Their broth is a bit salty, but balance really well with the chewy noodle. I often like to eat it with chicken rather than pork but that is for your references. I also tried the papaya salsf today, they're using calamansi as the sauce paste and I love that. Stopped by pretty late, about 45 minutes before closing. The dining room was almost full, still. Regardless, I got seated immediately. They handed the menu to me. Iced water was served immediately.
