We shared: 1. House Special Spicy Hot Pot 2. BBQ sausage & Minced Pork on Rice 3. Fried Chicken Cutlet Grill w black pepper sauce 4. Grilled style Angus Beef Steak Egg Pancake 5. Popcorn Chicken Hot Pot flavor and ingredients were on point. Minced pork needs to be more saucy and braised more. Fried chicken was flavorful and juicy. The black pepper sauce had too much black pepper. Popcorn Chicken lacked basil but was perfectly crispy, juicy, and garlicky. The beef steak egg pancake was the most fusiony and my least favorite dish. I prefer the traditional beef rolls. No issues with service.

I originally heard about Mabu as a Hong Kong style cafe but quickly realized it had a bit of every type of cuisine once we looked at the menu! The Taiwanese hot pot caught our eye & it felt like the right choice for a cold winter day. The popcorn chicken was not bad either! It was served in a cute scale? Not expected but it felt very creative Overall, we had a good experience here but didn't absolutely love what we ordered. I'd be open to trying some of their other menu items if I visit again! :)

Ambiance: 5/5 Very cute inside. Reminds me of a hip Hong Kong diner vibes. Service: 5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Food is yummy and fresh. A little pricey, but what isn't these days lol. Our fav drink is the pineapple freeze drink. So refreshing!

This is my second time at Mabu Generation. I got the M01. Sizzling Black Pepper Garlic Beef Rice. Nice warm meal for a cold day, but pretty average. The staff are very attentive, efficient, and nice. This place is definitely more of a have a quick lunch/dinner with some Instagram-able/gimmicky menu options, than a hearty meal type of place where there's enough volume to take home leftovers.

Ordered this place for takeout and did not enjoy the takoyaki unfortunately - it was VERY soggy and wish the wasabi sauce was on the side as that ruined it for me. The stars I did give was for their lemonade - is was so refreshing and yummy and came in those cute boba cylinder cups that you punch your straw in. If you want to try them Grubhub has a $10 off $15 order FYI!

First time visit - sizzling plate tempura with tofu and omelette rice was great, especially with a boat of additional black pepper sauce. Taiwanese sausage and pork belly rice was solid too. Ordered the fruit tea thinking it was a sharing pitcher (we were thinking how we've gotten it at Uyghur restaurants), but it was just a large mug. Not enough for me to ding a star for. Attentive service and great pop decor. Not very loud. No problems getting in on a early Saturday evening.

Bomb ass Taiwanese joint with a wide selection of Formosan fare, like noodle soups, hotpot bowls, sizzling plates, popcorn chicken, TW sausage, Taiwanese desserts in bathtub containers, hot fruit tea, milk tea, and much more. Excellent service and the interior is ultra-cool with an awesome mural plus neon designs. Most highly recommended!

Fresh off the plane and straight into a food coma: that's how you properly start a trip to Chicago. My family (party of 6) rolled into Mabu Generation on a hot Thursday afternoon and despite the summer heat we were determined to sweat from spicy hot pot, not just the weather. Mission accomplished. We ordered a few of the Taiwanese mini hot pot (mini in name only; this thing came with enough protein to reach my daily intake), the Taiwanese popcorn chicken (crispy, juicy, life-changing), and the Japanese beef sizzling skillet (so good it sizzled its way into my dreams). The hot pot was packed with flavor and fun surprises like pig blood and pork intestines, aka the MVPs of the broth world. Every bite was a flavor bomb, and the service was impeccable. They were on top of everything like they knew we were hangry travelers ready to fight for our lives (and hot bubbling cauldrons of spice). Portions were generous, flavors were next-level, and my protein intake is probably still processing a week later. 100/10 experience. Catch me back at Mabu next time I'm in Chi Town.

It's been on a my radar for awhile. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to try the amazing looking desserts. So this would only be on the savory things I ate. My husband got selective hearing so didn't listen to me when I said I wanted the sizzling plate like every basic person so he got me something else that seem kind of basic where you can get it at any Taiwanese spot. Food was good but pricy. This place gets super freaking busy so def come put your name down before you decide to walk around the square. The food took awhile to come out too since they are so busy. But it comes out super hot and fresh!

The service here was fantastic! Staff are super friendly and attentive. There was no wait when we arrived, which was a nice surprise, though it definitely got packed by the time we left. As for the food, it was just okay. The calamari was very crispy and well-seasoned, definitely the highlight of the meal. However, there was some confusion with our hotpot orders. The staff didn't seem to know which pot was which, so we couldn't tell which soup base we actually liked. That kind of took away from the experience since they were supposed to be different but they were exactly all the same ingredients just a different soup base. Overall, great service but the food and organization could use a bit more attention~

Came here twice within a short period of time. I enjoyed and most of the foods were delicious. However, I do find the prices a little bit expensive for what you get. The portions are on the smaller side. There are a few things I'd come back for and recommend: - grilled angus beef steak egg pancake: not too heavy for an app, scallion was soft yet crispy, perfectly seasoned, enough to share with a party of 4! - popcorn chicken: Paired with the spicy mayo, it's bursting with flavors. The outside is perfectly crispy, while the chicken is juicy and the hint of basil in the batter adds an extra kick of flavor. - sizzling black pepper garlic beef rice: each bite is Heaven on Earth. I've gotta say this is probably my favorite dish so far. Each time I went there was a mix up with my order but I'm impressed with how they handled it. The first time, we didn't even notice the mistake, but they were transparent about it and offered a free appetizer as a courtesy. The second time, they caught the mess up before we said anything and remade the dish.. so we ended up with two of that entree. Service easily deserves a 5 out of 5! This restaurant was a loud and lively! It's been packed both times I went and luckily got a table without a reservation.

We came on a Saturday around opening time (noon) and was sat immediately. Note that around 1pm there was a line going out the door. I immediately noticed that the things on the menu weren't too catered to tourists and more towards the Asian crowd with the offerings. We tried a red bean grass jelly freeze, stinky tofu hot pot, seafood Hot Pot, and chicken cutlet and we loved every dish. Both hot pots had a good variety of ingredients in them and nothing felt out of place. Wasn't too sure why the fried tofu came out on a scale but it was a fun way to eat and see the scale go down. The service was great ~ I'm certain that every waiter there at one point in time checked on our table to make sure we had everything we needed. They even offered to refill our broth and add more fire for our hot pot. Overall great experience and will come again!

It was pricey but enough for 2 people to share. Metered parking on a weekend evening was easy. My only complaint is that it had a strange, unpleasant smell inside (we were there in the evening during the weekend of April 25th). Also, when I came a few years ago, it had a really cozy, welcoming vibe packed with comfy couches. Now, it just looks like basic tables and plastic chairs, lacking comfort, character, and charm. I'm hoping to return to try the sweet potato latte and the other shaved ices, but I hope they do something about the smell and make the space feel more cozy and inviting.

I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too. The hot fudge was less impressive, but that might be because I had already eaten a Ghirardelli sundae earlier in the day and their hot fudge just can't be beat. The service was super friendly and the atmosphere was kitschy and fun. It's a cool place.

It didn't really come together as a unified dessert for me. I wanted the brownie to be richer, fudgier, maybe even a bit sweeter. I would probably get something else next time. The everything bagel was a good texture, but the fennel seeds in the seasoning took me so far away from the classic "everything." They overpowered the other flavors, but the texture was fantastic.
