Thanks to my deep dive and discovery on Yelp, MCCB turned out to be the perfect spot to achieve this. The restaurant has held its Michelin status for five years now, and for my first time visiting, the flavors here were incredible. Please note: the restaurant signage is not easily visible from the street since the storefront faces inward toward the mall plaza, and while looking for it, I ended up asking a local man and his wife for directions. He was so kind and welcoming that he unexpectedly left his wife on the sidewalk, my husband in the car, and walked me right across the street and into the mall to point it out from the inside! WAIT TIME: there is a 1 to 1.25 hour wait period to be seated for a table, and a $10 fee via credit card is required to secure your spot, which is then fully transferable to your bill upon checkout. The wait is a great time to walk, explore the shops, restaurants, all Chinatown has to offer, and get your steps and miles in! SERVICE: our first server, Allen, was a bit on the stiff, curt side, but overall nice. However, we had to move from a two-top table to a four-top to accommodate all the dishes we were trying. In that changeover, we were blessed to get one of the BEST servers there, Ashley, who made the experience wonderful. FOOD: we ordered an absolute feast, starting with three starters. The Cheng Du Style Dumplings were fantastic. The Crispy Crab Rangoons were actually not mini at all and had a great crunch. The Szechuan Style Cucumber was a bit underwhelming and a slight bit on the soft side for my tastes, as I prefer my veggies crunchy even when cooked. We ordered everything with the mild heat option so there was no overwhelming spice, just great flavor. For the main dishes, we started with the Cauliflower Flank Steak and added broccoli to it, which was a fantastic addition. It is cooked in an oyster sauce and has none of the standard sweeter seasonings of the other dishes. I chose this to balance a sweet and salty rationing across my dishes, finding that MCCB is a great place to get that perfect balance. The Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce was perfect with the mild heat option as well, and the Honey Black Pepper Flank Steak was also incredibly savory, tender, and good. We paired everything with garlic string beans, white rice, and a great jumbo shrimp fried rice. I preferred water, while my husband had a few Diet Cokes. The food comes out hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. PARKING: parking is convenient--there is street parking or you can use the two north and south lots within walking distance. The north lot is on Archer and Wentworth, and the south lot is on Cermak and Wentworth. Validated parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 hours, and you will only pay $3 with the validation. Just make sure to stay within that time limit and get it validated, because if you go over the 3 hours or forget the validation, you will have to pay the full price for the lot. PRICE: the pricing here is very reasonable for a Michelin-recognized restaurant. Our dinner came out to just under $146 total, which offers phenomenal value given the large portions and top-tier quality. If you are seeking high-quality, delicious Sichuan food in Chinatown that completely lives up to its multi-year Michelin status, and can be customized perfectly to your spice comfort, this is a great place to go. The waitress took our order, and that was the last time any staff member checked in on us. For anything that we needed, we would need to walk up to their counter where they were all having conversation rather than being out on the floor at any given point. We did not like the service so I decided to not tip. When I signed the receipt, they (2 of them) immediately looked at the $0.00 tip and told me to come back. They showed me receipts of other people that had tip and said that other people tipped. "Cash tip or card," they followed up. I said I am not tipping because I did not like their service. Then, they said "But we brought out your food," as if that was some tip-deserving service as it is actually a responsibility. They expect mandatory tipping, even when their service was not deserving.

Turned out not to be cheap-bill for 2 = $80 + change without any booze. But the quality of the food was over the top. Don't mind paying the freight, when the feed is worth it.

My recent dining experience at Mei's in Chicago left much to be desired, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts in this detailed review. I ordered a variety of dishes, hoping to experience the full range of flavors that Mei's has to offer. Firstly, the Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings were a disappointment as they lacked the expected burst of flavor. The essence of these dumplings, which is usually a harmonious blend of meat and broth, was unfortunately missing. Moving on to the roasted duck, the presentation fell short of expectations, and the portion size was surprisingly tiny. Moreover, the flavor profile of the duck was underwhelming, leaving me craving more depth and richness. The Pork & Scallion Bao also failed to impress. Not only were they smaller than anticipated, but the flavor was lacking as well. It seems Mei's struggled to infuse these dishes with the robust tastes that one would expect from a restaurant of its caliber. On a more positive note, the Szechuan braised beef noodle soup showcased tender beef, a redeeming quality in an otherwise lackluster meal. However, the absence of the promised spice left me longing for the bold flavors that are characteristic of Szechuan cuisine. One aspect that deserves commendation is the service. The staff at Mei's demonstrated attentiveness and professionalism, providing a silver lining to an otherwise disappointing dining experience. Regarding the prices, they fall within the expected range of $12-20, which is reasonable given the location near Grant Park. However, the value for money is questionable when considering the subpar flavors and portion sizes of the dishes. In conclusion, Mei's in Chicago has room for improvement, especially in elevating the flavors of their signature dishes. While the service was commendable and the prices were as anticipated, the overall culinary experience left much to be desired. I hope Mei's takes these critiques constructively and works towards delivering a more satisfying dining experience in the future. Sadly there is still no commendable Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumpling spot in Chicago. read more

Be aware that if you have difficulty with spice that you might want to order a lower level of heat! it was too spicy for a couple of us! The Dan-Dan noodles were everybody's favorites, flavorful, with a little bit of earth and a decent amount of heat. The restaurant was cute and clean, very well lit as well. The service was quick and while not overly chatty, was efficient and friendly. We'll be back!

We came here off of a recommendation of a friend...and we were not disappointed…read more The line was out the door but we got checked in and were quoted 30 min, it only took 22 min and we were seated. The staff was so kind, refills came quickly, food was fast as well. The whole place was clean with a fun view of outside on the street. We had the crab Rangoon and fried dough to start. The soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, custard filled bao, shrimp rolls, orange chicken and soy sauce chow mein. It was all so delicious!!
