2D restaurant offers a cute aesthetic, but the service is lacking. We came on a Saturday night with no reservation, at first we were told there were no tables, and we could order to go. Once we mentioned we were only stopping in for drinks and desserts, we were offered a table. It took a while for someone to take our order. I could tell other tables were annoyed with the slow service as well. The place inside is pretty small. We tried the viet coffee and the hanoi affogato which both were quite mediocre in flavor. The kids loved the wiggle wiggle dessert since they got to decorate the cat. They did not like the taste of the cat pudding but loved the fruit and mochi donut. I'm not sure I would come back to try the food.

Such amazing food - I love their chicken sandwiches and bowls. But more than the food, I love how the owner does such great philanthropy in the area and hosts all these thoughtful events for the community. Each year on National Taiwan Day (10/10) they have these crazy deals that are so worth. Be on the lookout! This year their proceeds went towards the disaster fund in Taiwan. We also go to make our own mochi and heard how the owner was teaching kids in the nearby schools for lunar new year too!! If I had to give some critique, the drinks here are not my favorite but the food and service more than make up for it! Very family friendly and great place to catch up with friends.

I saw this place on some Food Network show and knowing we were going to Chicago soon, looked it up. This restaurant is unique on the inside. There are about 8 tables, so I made a reservation to make sure we got in. Our reservation was at noon on a Friday, and there was only one guy serving the entire place. He didn't even take our order until 12:25pm. Our water didn't arrive till 12:45 pm. Once we ordered, the food came out relatively fast. The spicy cucumber salad was of ample size and VERY spicy to us. The fried chicken for the sandwiches I believe are thighs and the breading was great. It's just that the chicken pieces were small on my sandwich, but bigger on others. The fries and the onion rings are fantastic. We all (party of five) had never tried a Mochi donut so we ordered three different ones. We liked them all. I'm not a donut fan, but these might convert me. This is a one and done place for us because of the service. It is worth going once for the ambiance, onion rings, fries, and chicken. And I might order take-out next time.

This place is too cute. It's literally made for social media post like Instagram and TikTok. The food is almost secondary. Now we got here when it was empty. I don't know how its gonna look like when it's filled with people. But for now we have the place all to ourselves. We had both ube drinks both very pretty - nice. I prefer not to mix my matcha ube, so I can taste each distinct flavor same with the ube coffe. One gripe is it's serve on plastic tumblers which doesn't photograph as well.

Definitely recommend making a reservation to get a seat inside. The view when you walk in is trippy with just seeing black and white. I love how the plates of food are full of color! We started off with chef recommended potatoes croquettes. Boy, these things were light and pillowy! The sauces were yummy. We also each got entrees. I went with the Chicago Tribune recommended fried chicken sandwich. Bread was super fluffy, coleslaw gave a lil sweetness, and pineapple chili sauce chicken gave a lil zing! What a great sammie!! Kevin got the chicken platter which came with 2 sides, cabbage and rice. He also got the pineapple chili but his was hotter since the chicken was more coated than my sandwich. He loved the mango jasmine tea and opted for the sweeter option. We will definitely be back when we come to Chicagoland again! See you soon! Jake and kevin

Food was decent for a more "instagramable" establishment - tried their fried chicken curry don and was pleasantly surprised by their curry. Enjoyed their addition of minced meat into the sauce. I got my food to-go since the restaurant was slightly hectic and they seemed to be understaffed. The entrance is really tiny and not a great first view by the customers. It felt like we were being pushed / kept out.

A cool and unique 2D comic dining experience in black and white. I felt like I walked inside of a comic book. A fun place to come and visit with family, friends, solo date. My server Alexander was attentive and friendly. I arrived when the door opened to beat the crowd of people that had reservations. I was instantly seated, handed a menu with a nice tall cold glass of water. Alexander was even so kind to let me try some of their chicken. I wasn't a big fan of the flavor but it was crispy and cooked well. I was more impressed with the art dimensional of this place. This is a must hidden gem to come and visit. Great to take some photo shoots for social media. I just ended up ordering the lemon blossom fizz lemonade and a chocolate mochi donut. Both were a delicious treat. My total was $16.19. The prices are not displayed on the menu and I was shocked to see on my bill that a glass of lemonade was almost $10.00. Overall the experience was a 10/10.

The doughnuts were good - "loved them all except the wreath one. The snowman doughnut was fire!! Our plan was to eat in, but a warm winter in Chicago has not done the restaurant well and it was just a little dingy. I have sympathy because I am sure that it is hard to keep up with an all white restaurant. However, you chose to be an all white restaurant so... We will try again. I'm giving some grace for a holiday week.

I came here on my way to the pride fest and it turned out to be a really nice place to stop by! When we first walked in, we were greeted by the employee who informed us that it was short staffed and just them at the front. I appreciated the heads up and we just got drinks to go but they let us sit inside anyways. The design of this place is unlike anything you see and I love how you feel like you are in a comic. The boba was pretty good and super refreshing. I do think the boba was not as fresh and a little too mushy but nothing bad.

Tried the food this time, which was actually pretty delicious! The fried chicken was perfectly crunchy, juicy, and well seasoned. We got the Taiwanese fried chicken and curry over rice and it was yummy! I would recommend. I would come back here and order from the food menu again in the future!

Had a wonderful dining experience at the 2D cage today! Service was great and food was delicious. Get the jello cat, so cute and you can design it with edible food coloring.

Took the kids for snacks and had a bit of a wait on a weekday with no reservations. We were a bit disappointed that there were no cat puddings left but being surrounded by art and the sweet chewy mochi donuts more than made up for it. We will have to go back for a cat pudding!

Coming to the 2d restaurant was one of the highlights of my chicago trip!! I highly recommend getting a reservation for the meal experience. This comes with a drink, side salad, main course, dessert, and a photoshoot at the end! I chose to get a milk tea, asian crunch chili sandwich, and we all picked a different mochi donut at the end. Everything tasted amazing (I wish the food looked 2d too) and I was really satisfied at the end. The photo experience then had us pose in a van outside and peeking around various doors and corners of the restaurant. It was super cute! I would definitely recommend coming here to everyone. I was scared it would be a bit gimmicky but the food and experience were all great. They also provided coloring sheets as a fun activity while you wait or after you finish your food. I had such a good time :)

When is the best time to visit if we don't want to deal with the crowd?

How long is the wait for a Monday morning (typically) if I don't reserve a table?

Honestly I would call ahead, I'm sure reservations are encouraged

Is the chicken dark meat or white meat?

    Dark meat!

Are the mochi donuts gluten free? 🤞🏻

I'm pretty sure they're not gluten free.

    Are there any vegan options?

There aren't any vegan options unfortunately. They all have dairy.

How are the food and the drinks?

Sandwich was a children's size, for $ 15. Took my mango limeade fizz, which was tasty, back because it was primarily ice

I came to Hello Jasmine during a conference at McCormick Place because, let's be real, my dudes,…read morefood at the conference center is largely uninspiring and expensive. One of my friends who went to grad school in Chicago (whose food recommendations I trust with my life) told me I had to check out Hello Jasmine, so I hopped on the bus. I'm so glad I did. The cafe itself is ADORABLE. I happened to visit just before Halloween (10/28), and it was decorated in the most charming "spooky cute" way. There were little Halloween touches everywhere, and someone on staff is very clearly a Harry Potter fan. It somehow managed to feel festive, cozy, and cheerful all at once. I ordered the matcha fresh boba milk tea with fresh milk. My default is always 0% sugar because my biggest beverage pet peeve is when drinks are too sweet. (Despite being an ABC, one thing that definitely survived is my instinct to say "not too sweet, please".) The cashier gently talked me into getting 30% sugar because she said the matcha could be a little bitter otherwise. She was absolutely right. 30% percent was perfect. It was balanced, smooth, and so good that I accidentally drank it much faster than I meant to. (Oops.) I also ordered the pig blood rice cakes (made them spicy), and wow. I don't think I've ever seen these anywhere in Boston. They were seared, spicy, savory, just a tiny bit sweet, and 100% delicious. I was so excited to find something that felt a little harder to come by. 11/10, I would absolutely come back. In fact, my only complaint is that it wasn't closer to the convention center. I probably could have expensed lunch there, and honestly, those corporate dollars would have been much better spent here than on conference catering. I wish I lived in Chicago just so I could stop by more often. Hats off to Jasmine and the staff. It feels bright, authentic, and full of joy. I imagine it's exactly the kind of cafe where students go after a long week to recharge over a really good drink and something comforting to eat, and I'm so glad it exists.

The drink I ordered was not as good as I expected. The taro flavor was okay, but the texture was not smooth enough. On top of that, the wait time was about 45 minutes for one drink, which felt too long. I think the management and ordering system could be improved, especially during busy times. I still like Hello Jasmine and will come back to try another drink next time, but I hope the quality and wait time will be better. Overall, this visit did not meet my expectations.

There aren't many seats available so it feels like a semi boba shop as well. To sum it up, I would say it is ~70 to 80% authentic, which is not bad in my opinion. Braised Pork Over Rice 招牌滷肉飯: The presentation was beautiful and the flavor was actually pretty good. In Taiwan, this dish is usually more on the sweeter side, due to the sugar and shallots added. Here, it is more peppery and savory, and the flavor was actually really good. The beans and the mustard greens were very delicious as well. Even though the flavor profile is slightly different, this was well made and something I would come back for. Noodles with black pepper sauce 胡椒鐵板麵: traditionally this dish is called蘑菇鐵板麵, which uses mushrooms, black pepper and other sauces as a base. The flavor was good, but I wish that there were more mushroom and sauce to balance the black pepper. In my opinion, this dish tasted very different from what I used to eat, but it is not bad on its own. 2/4 Fried pork chops: the meat was fried very well, and it was pretty peppery and crispy. However, I think there are different spices and flavor missing, including white pepper, msg, garlic, Thai basil, cayenne pepper, and more. I wished that the savoriness and spiciness popped up more, and I thought the spice blend and the marinade could definitely use some improvement. 3/4 Beef noodle soup 牛肉麵: I thought the bone broth was pretty good, but I believe the flavor profile should be wider, like tomatoes, five spice, 豆瓣醬, soy sauce, and more. It was a stripped down version, and I wished that is reflected in the name of the item (renaming it "clear soup" etc). Also, the amount of meat they gave us was a little bit pitiful (there were like four pieces), and there were two pieces of bok choy. When Taiwanese people eat beef noodle soup, we definitely expect more. 2/4 Additionally, I wish the drinks were made with some fresh ingredients (not just syrup or creamer), as standard/good quality boba shops from Taiwan try to make drinks as fresh as possible. That is high ask, but I just wanted to note that as a suggestion for improvement. Overall, I thought the food was pretty decent. Would I say it is the most representative Taiwanese restaurant in Chicago? No. The staff was actually Chinese loll. But I do think it reminds me of some flavors and food I grew up eating in Taiwan. If you like popcorn chicken and pork, it is likely a good place for you.

The green beans came as a side with my bento box and were amazing. The ordering system is a little clunky and annoying but we got through it. Vibes in the space are fine, it's an efficient little cafe The biggest thing is that there's really an opportunity for more sauces! For the fries, for the popcorn chicken, for example, a sauce would make a big difference to dip it in. I like this place and expect to be back

The Pork & Chive Dumplings tasted like something my mom would make at home. The broth they sit in adds a lot of flavor and makes the dish even better. My only nitpick is that I personally prefer a thicker, chewier dumpling wrapper. The Dan Dan Noodles were the standout. Creamy, nutty, crunchy from the peanuts, packed with flavor, and not overly spicy. It was my first time trying dan dan noodles and now I totally understand the hype. 8/10. The Xian Bing took about 25 minutes to come out, which makes sense since they're made fresh. The lamb filling was flavorful and the outside was super crispy, almost like a scallion pancake. The bread itself was softer and thicker than I expected and could've used a little more flavor. Overall, this felt like authentic, comforting food that leaves you completely satisfied when you walk out. Next time I'd absolutely order the Dan Dan Noodles again and try the beef noodles, scallion pancakes, and beef dumplings.
