Great experience and fun concept. The artwork is intricate and you could really spend a lot of time just taking selfies and staring at it. It does get awkward when you want to check out art near other peoples table. We both Mo-Chick-Nut and the vegan variant. Fried chicken between two mochi donuts with a scoop of ice cream and caramel sauce. I feel like I'd eat this for my birthday! Needs a sparkler or something. I wasn't feeling handsy so I took it apart and ate it. It was all really tasty and the chicken was nice and crisp. I only have constructive criticism for this place. All offerings, service is awesome. The POS was efficient. The interior is eye popping. But... the menu is terribly limited. They tend to lean on a Japanese menu. I'd love just to see a few customizable option. Like musubi, (pandas) or a donburi bowl. Maybe just sone kinda customizable rice dish and a few quick fry apps. I guess on this I notice is the interior is fabulous but the exterior just has less effort. I don't if it's a code thing. So much fun!! My friend and I went on Monday and had the best time. There were barely any people there, luckily. We went around 10:30am. I could see how this place can feel crowded when there's a lot more people. It's not very big inside. I ordered a crème brûlée latte and the WICKED mochi donut. The service was quick and the staff is nice. We didn't dine in, took it to go, but the staff didn't rush us out or anything, so we got to take lots of photos. It's super cute inside! Mochi Donuts & Boba Review You come for the vibe, and it's true that the concept, execution, and enjoyment of the space is truly incredible. I had fun showing my friend from out of town. I also have an obsession for mochi donuts. Donuts: Ube is delicious. Perfect amount of icing and always is vibrant. Matcha was earthy and not sweet enough in my opinion. If you enjoy that, it still is a solid flavor profile. Salted carmel was not good. The carmel didn't lay very well onto the donut. The texture didn't match and the flavor didn't come through. Strawberry Cheesecake is what we ordered but I thought it had a different topping on the menu. This donut lacked a punch, but still tasty and I ate it right up. The Boba tea was a balance flavor, refreshing and light. I would say the boba to tea ratio felt a little off. I'm giving it another go since I tried ones I wouldn't personally choose since I was with a friend. I saw a review that said this place isn't as "trippy" in person, and I would agree with that. In person it's just sort of cool, instead of mesmerizing. Moreover, the restaurant is a lot smaller than I expected it to be, which means it easily starts to feel overcrowded. If you have the option of coming here during a slow period on a weekday, I would encourage that. As for the drinks and donuts, they were just okay. Unremarkable, really. I had the creme brulee latte, which was a little too bitter for my tastes. I also tried a few of the tea and fizz drinks that the rest of my group ordered. Again, they were just all right. Not very sweet. My sister described the fizz drinks as veering more towards the La Croix end of the flavor spectrum, and I would agree with that. On the other hand, the mochi donuts were super sweet. I got the Tigger Thai Tea, but there was no discernable tea flavor, only sweetness. The Eeyore Earl Grey had a little more distinction and was the better donut, IMO. In terms of texture, there are other mochi donuts I would sooner have again, but overall not bad. Definitely fluffier, and missing some of that mochi chew that I prefer, but since these are "pon-de-ring" style mochi donuts, I guess that is true to their description. Perfect for tweens! We decided to take our tweens (cousins) to 2D for a fun backdrop experience for selfies, flicks and fun food. So cute! It's like stepping into a coloring book! The black and white makes every photo you take; pop with you as the main feature. Loved the drawings, especially the sketches of famous paintings like "the girl with the Pearl earring". There is an actual claw foot bathtub and a sketched out book boutique. So sweet! The food we had was a part of the reservation we set up where we had to pay in advance. With this package you got a sandwich and fries of your choice (many flavors), a mochi donut (pick your flavor) and a fizzy drink or latte. The sandwiches are fried chicken thighs. They are very tasty but could use a bit of seasonings. The fries were delicious!! Very crispy and seasoned well. The doughnuts were very good and very creatively decorated. The drinks were all very good!! We ordered a mix of lattes and fizz drinks. No complaints with our drinks. The only thing I would say is the air conditioning was sooooo high. Might need to circle around a couple times to find a parking spot during weekends or peak hours. I was lucky enough to snag a spot right in front of the restaurant when I went. This place isn't big. Can get super crowded when it is busy. I went on a rainy Thursday afternoon and caught the tail end of things. I ended up having lots of time to take cute photos there and got to talk with the owner. Super friendly and nice! If you never had mochi donuts before, I'd buy 1 and give it a try. These are definitely not your regular donuts. It has a soft "chewy" texture to them. Went at 4pm on a weeknight during soft opening. They operate between 10a-6p during this time to test out how many donuts they need to prepare for each day. When I arrived, I waited about 10 minutes, not because there was a long line but because a party of 4 took a long time to order. This gave me time to study the menu while I was waiting. A perfect option for an indecisive girl like me was to order a half dozen of one of each. They were out of most donuts from artisanal collection (triple chocolate, s'mores, the Pooh, very berry, matcha dreams, & fresh cream churro) other than the s'mores and the Pooh. From the essential collection (sprinkle rainbow, chocolate, strawberry, glaze, matcha, cotton candy), they were out of the matcha & sprinkle. I went back to order some more for my friends prior to going home, after staying in the neighborhood. It was close to closing time. The person ordering in front of me had ordered from the display box that has been sitting there for hours, which I am guessing this customer agreed to. But after that, I couldn't believe what I saw. The employee put back donuts what was on the display item on selling items rack behind him, and then took my order. That is not sanitary as many customers have stood in line to order. This time for my friends, I only ordered what was large available, which was chocolate and strawberries. The donuts itself are ooook... I've had mochi donuts from Mochibee in Atlanta. I think because it's the first time a mochi donut shop has opened up in Chicago, there are long lines, but once Mochinut chain opens in Chicagoland, I am not sure if this is it. I only like the chocolate donuts as I typically am a chocolate donut girl; hence, I also liked S'mores. Other flavors tastes so artificial, I couldn't withstand the taste and ended up throwing away a strawberry and cotton candy after trying it. Another time, my friend brought me a matcha donut and I was so disappointed that it was not good. Once again, tasted very artificial. Came here during the soft opening and I'll say they still have some kinks to work out. My friend and I got here at 10am and had to wait 30 minutes in the cold to even get in and order...they need to figure out their line situation. Please set it up through Yelp or have it so we can give you our phone number and you can text us when we can come vs. waiting outside in the cold. The donuts themselves are tasty and unique. Go when they open because the donuts are so fresh then! Although you may have to wait more as they might not be made yet. My favorite was the S'mores and the Matcha Dreams. I'll have to come back and try this place again. When I dined in here, the wait + "influencers" everywhere taking photos and crowding your table so they could get the right angles were both annoying...Also when we came there was no time limit on the tables which I found interesting considering the line waiting outside. Incongruent menu. The decor is supposed to be reminiscent of a Parisian cafe, but the menu is Americanized-Asian. The menu didn't have balance. Donuts but no coffee--just super sweet drink options. Taiwanese fried chicken sandwiches were a nice change from other nearby restaurants but very limited vegetable options to balanced all the fried stuff. A meal of donuts, fried chicken sandwich, fries, and super sweet bubble tea is just too much. Photo "tour" didn't make sense to me. Server just snapped some photos of us--but we could just ask someone to do that or use a selfie stick, why pay for a tour? The decor was really cool and overall the idea is really cool. Food was mediocre (except for the fries?? awesome crispy fries.) Cashier was so friendly and sweet, but server was awful. Our food was given to a different table twice, and we had to wait 45 mins for a single doughnut. We reserved seats and wiggle cats and everything, only for our wiggle cats to be given to another table. Poor service. The formula for the "ink" in the cats is drippy and awful, and the cats themselves taste like pure coconut. The texture of the cats is thick and chewy like silicone rubber, which none of us were expecting. Was not sweet or like "custard" at all. Could not finish a single cat, let alone several. Overall a cute place for photos, but very "trendy" and you can see the evident laminate on everything in person. Great for instagram posts though, and awesome lighting. Good customer service, we were ultimately compensated. Go for the instagrammy vibes, stay for the sandwiches. We stopped by in the late afternoon on a Saturday and the place was pretty quiet (but had filled up by the time we left, closer to dinner). Took some time walking around taking photos before being seated -- it's clearly what they want you to do with all the unique art and the bathtub begging for selfies! I was excited by the plant-based options on the menu. I got an iced Thai tea with almond milk which was just right, as well as a plant-based chicken sandwich with fries. Came out quickly and was impressed with the sandwich!! Would come back just for that, and the fries were great too. We also split a mochi donut, which was just fine. Nothing super impressive, but I'm not a huge sweets person. Overall would come back with visitors from out of town, it's a fun spot to take pictures for sure. The concept of flat 2D illustrations on all the walls makes for a fun place to eat, but the food is also excellent. The chicken is super moist on the inside and very, very crispy on the outside. I recommend the Hot version of the sandwich. It's much less spicy than, say, Nashville hot chicken. I think it's just right. I also really liked the wasabi fries, which are nicely crisped fries with a drizzle of creamy wasabi sauce. The menu and ordering are all done through the QR code on each table, and food just magically shows up. Pretty cool. read more

Cute concept, but I found this place to be a bit overrated. They did open pretty recently so maybe the experience would be better after a few kinks are worked out. To start, I think the space is way too small for the amount of people they are trying to accommodate. There were several large groups of people seated at tables and in line when we arrived, so there was a lot of squeezing and close contact with other people when navigating through the area. This also makes it very difficult to enjoy the cool art, which was what really drew me to wanting to come here. I think there should only be smaller tables for seating (like typically found in smaller coffee shops and cafes) since this space is not large enough to comfortably accommodate large groups. I was excited to try mochi donuts but I felt like these were just ok. I got the Pooh, which is super cute with red and yellow colors. The frosting on top was delicious (honey and peanut butter) and the donut had a nice chewy texture. I just wish the donut itself had a little more flavor. I was really excited to come try this place, but the actual experience didn't quite live up to the hype. I get that this place is new, so I think once they iron out the kinks this would be a more pleasant experience. read more

I'm excited that a mochi donut shop is finally in Chicago with such a cute, 2-D/comic book feel to the atmosphere! Their first soft opening was 2/3/22. I love that the place was hand-drawn/painted, and a lot of the drawings were very cute. There is also a separate room with a bathtub of balls in it. Overall, very Instagrammable place if that's your thing. I got the Best of Both World (three of the artisanal collection mixed with three of the essential collection) for $19.99 (or about $22 and some change after tax). It comes in a nice box with a comic printed inside of it. All the mochi donuts we had were really tasty. My favorites were the S'More, Matcha Dreams, Chocolate, Strawberry, Fresh Churro Cream, and Cotton Candy in that order. Being that they just opened, there are still some things that they need to work out, which should likely straighten out with time or maybe a month later even. For instance, all the Fresh Cream Churro were missing cream because the mochi donut came out too flat. Some of the mochi donuts weren't quite uniform, like the chocolate one, or the frosting wasn't smooth for others. It's worth checking out! read more

My pyrenees puppy and me had so much fun here! There is fortunately an outside patio with a cute mini van by the side and plenty of seating areas both inside and outside this playful restaurant. I chose their traditional chicken sandwich with a side of Wasabi sauce french fries and a decadent and sweet Vietnamese iced coffee.   There are so many wonderful photo opportunities here too so while you are here primarily for the tasty drinks and mochi doughnuts you can also wander around and take selfies and photos of a vintage bath, a telephone booth and a white mini van. This time I tried their lunch menu but next time I definitely wish to sample the decadent mochi doughnuts and more iced drinks like Boba bubble teas   My dog and I had  a blast-- such a fun experience and the staff here are so nice, patient and accommodating to everyone even though there were so many people when I arrived on Monday. read more

We were excited to come visit during their soft opening as we had heard of a new mochi donut dedicated cafe with phin coffee! We visited on a Sunday morning a little after they opened and waited for about 40 minutes before we were able to order. Currently it's walk-in only and they are still working out some processes but overall it was a great experience! Mochi donuts: ordered the matcha, s'mores, and special fresh strawberry and cream donuts. All were fantastic with the s'mores being much sweeter than the other two Coffee: ordered the black phin coffee which was nice and smooth. They also do have seasonal lattes and a small selection of teas Ambiance: The idea and aesthetic is super cool as the place is entirely hand-drawn/painted from the walls to the tables/chairs. There's many instagrammable spots around the cafe but I would suggest coming at a less crowded time as there can be a lot of people trying to take pictures in a small space. I've always wanted to see a 2D restaurant and I was so pumped to experience this one. We had a 26 per person reservation, which included either half dozen donuts + a drink or a chicken sandwich, a drink, and one donut. When I priced the sandwich, drink, and donut separately, it cost over 32 bucks, so it's worth making a reservation! And you get served with a reservation versus having to walk up to the counter to get your order. Finally, you get a Polaroid photo of yourself! First off, take a ton of photos! It's just so cool and if you are into arty cool experiences, this is the place! I spent the whole time smiling. Second, the food is pretty darn good. I got the fresh strawberry donut. Once I scrapped off most of the frosting, it was really good. The fresh strawberries added a much needed balance to the sweetness of the frosting and I loved the texture of the mochi donuts. I got the lemon bliss fizz and it's supposed to be sweetened. It was the lightest sweetened drink I ever had. Think of it more like flavored seltzer than a sweet drink. It was still refreshing though given the sweetness of the donut. The chicken sandwich, which came out last, was BOMB!!!! I got the Tokyo rooster and first off, the cut of meat is the thigh. Praise be a dark meat chicken sandwich! The bun was so tasty and everything was juicy and so good! The fries are seasoned and crispy and delicious! Full disclosure: I don't like coleslaw. However, I loved this one. It's sweeter than you might expect, with an orange citrus undertone. The almonds on top were so good and it's not mayonnaise-y at all. Just really nice meal.
