We ordered the following: glaze donut, donut ice cream red velvet cookies, 2 other donuts which I can't recalled the flavor, lemonade. All I can say is the donuts tasted similar to Dunkin Donut. Lemonade was actually good because it was not too sweet, and tasted fresh. For about $4 -$7 per donut, the rave reviews on yelp, and donuts that do not stand out in flavors, I will not come back. read more

This donut shop is a super tiny space but has an insane amount of variety for their donuts. Everything looks pretty and the decor of the shop is nice as well. I got about 6 donuts and all of them had a solid flavor. Nothing too crazy in my opinion but the variety and unique donuts are what you're there for. read more

This was a super small store and they kinda kicked us out (in a nice way) because we were eating on the side and new customers were coming in. I shared a valrhona chocolate donut and it hit the spot for dessert. The chocolate icing to donut ratio was great and the taste of the chocolate was really rich. You can't even call this a restaurant, yet it's a bit larger than a kiosk, so maybe it's a...vestibule that slings donuts and coffee? At any rate, it's fantastic. Staff was very friendly and patient as we allowed our Firecake virgin eyes to take in all of the selections available. I am not really a donut fan, but even I was impressed with the variety on hand. It also appears that they have ice cream and coffee drinks and while I love both of those things, the timing was not right for me to partake in those items--but definitely next time! We went with a half-dozen to share with some friends and since I only had 1.5 donuts, those are the only ones that I will review: Pistachio Old Fashioned. Stumbled upon this place since it was near the dispensary my friend wanted to go to and decided to get donuts for breakfast. We got The Michael, the buttermilk old fashioned, and the raspberry blood orange jelly. All of them were delicious but our favorite was the buttermilk old fashioned. It is a small and cute little shop but no places to sit since it was raining that morning so their patio was closed. However, service was quick and friendly and we took our donuts to go. They even offered us a free charcoal latte that they made to train the new barista but neither of us drink coffee so I hope the people after us snatched it up. read more

This is one small place that only 2-3 people can enter at a time. It has about 15 different kinds of donuts, which are very expensive donuts ranging from over $3 to $7 each. I picked up the buttermilk ($3) and it was good, but not much better than a dunkin donut buttermilk. The apple fritter was completely disappointing as it was soggy underneath, doughy inside, and lack of cinnamon and apple taste; which for the price of $7, is shocking. I was walking in the area to get money from a Bank of America and saw this cute donut shop. I was peeking through the window to see what they had because I didn't want to commit to buying anything. The woman working behind the counter was so friendly - she smiled and beckoned me to enter the shop for a better view. After surveying the case, I grabbed a buttermilk old fashioned and it has got to be one of the best old fashioned donuts I've ever had. It wasn't cloyingly sweet, but sweet enough that it would go perfectly with some black coffee. The donut was moist and tender - absolutely wonderful. So fun! We were finished with dinner and had time for a sweet treat before heading back out. The service was great, staff adorable and the atmosphere exactly what we were looking for to hush our frenzied evening. Very small shop, you order and then pick up from the window outside. There's two tables outside to eat at. The worker was helpful in answering my questions. So I think I owe Firecakes an apology. Firecakes used to have an amazing ice cream sandwich. It was so simple. You had no choice in the matter. Vanilla ice cream, original glazed donut, and chocolate sauce. It was perfect and they perfectly portioned the right amount of ice cream per donut in these slabs specifically made to fit between the donut. Life was good. About 5ish years ago EVERYTHING changed. They added chocolate and a speciality flavor (usually strawberry), they shrinked the size changing from their square donuts to their standard round donuts, the added an extra flavor of donut (sprinkled) and most importantly they got rid of the slabs of ice cream and started... SCOOPING!!This was all a bridge to far for me and I swore off Firecakes. Cut to today... I was craving something sweet. Not just something sweet I wanted to feel it. I wanted the sugar to engulf my insides. I also happened to be approaching Grand on the red line so I thought perfect a donut ice cream sandwich it is! I begrudgingly walk up to the window and order something out of left field original donut, chocolate (oh no) ice cream, and instead of chocolate sauce... CARAMEL! I gave it a fair shake and honestly it was even BETTER than I remembered. Sure the donut is smaller but I am also fatter and don't need the extra cals. I love me a sweet little treat so I was happy to have found this place was walking distance from my hotel. They had some cute donuts and interesting flavors but I'm a simple girl so my go to's are glazed or old fashioned because if you can't do the basic then the others will follow suit. They did have a pistachio old fashioned which was intriguing but I went buttermilk and was certainly pleased. It was very rich but tasted fresh and delicious dipped in coffee. It's a small shop with limited indoor space that has a standing counter against the wall to have a quick bite. They did have outdoor seating if you want to sit and enjoy but it was very cold that morning. If you like donuts I would highly recommend (who doesn't like donuts though!?). read more

I recently read a book about a wedding planner who buys a box of a dozen donuts for all of her clients and eats donuts for breakfast every day. Although a daily donut diet seems a tad excessive and cavity-prone, if I DID need to get all of my clients donuts and eat one a day, I think I might get get them from Firecakes Donuts - because they're that good! The shop is small inside and quickly got crowded with six other people, all trying to decide which donut(s) to get. Thankfully, there are a limited number of options, but it's still a tough choice as they all look so yummy. Service was very efficient once we actually decided. I ended up getting a honey-glazed raised donut and a pistachio glazed old-fashioned, then went outside to the shaded alleyway to try the honey-glazed donut. There were a few upright barrels for standing tables, as well as a few tables with seats right outside. I fell in love with my first bite - the donut was so fluffy inside (check out all those layered air pockets in the photo) and was the perfect amount of honey-sweet. I saved the old-fashioned donut for the next morning. It held up in my bag and was still delightfully crispy outside the next day. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), I don't live close enough to Firecakes to come here every day... but I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area. These donuts are GOOD! read more

Aaahhh what can I say- these donuts melt in your mouth. I am a fan of the pistachio but loved their seasonal apple cider flavor this time around. They made me a custom pumpkin coffee as well which made me feel like I was the only customer in the shop (& forget the line behind me). Got there late at night and there was always a group of people lining up. As such, only a few donuts were available. We went there for ice cream donut but there was only one option to choose from as they ran out of the rest. Very popular! I do wish they let us use the other flavor donuts instead. Glazed donuts was ok, nothing impressive but ice cream was good. They have 3 flavors; wish they had more flavors or let us put sprinkles/toppings in there for the price. I was in Chicago visiting family and was on my way to lunch when I passed by Firecakes Donuts. I have a weakness for good doughnuts - I compare them all with Dough, on 19th St in NYC, which is my all time favorite doughnut baker. I stopped in even though I was having a big meal at Ema. I immediately saw the Valrhona chocolate covered doughnut.....I had to have it...and I wasn't waiting until after lunch. The doughnut, with the velvety Valrhona chocolate, was wonderful! When stopping by Chicago, someone recommended that I definitely try fire cake donuts. I ordered the pistachio old fashioned and the buttermilk old fashioned. Both were good but tasted very similar. I wish the pistachio donut has a more distinct taste. If it wasn't green, I would have guessed it was just a regular buttermilk donut. What makes these great is the thin layer of frosting on the donut. It's just the right amount- not too much or not too little. I was also surprised that these stayed relatively fresh for a full day. A delicious donut with sweet icing, soft dough, and a pleasant eggnog custard feeling. Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream (Recommend) Delicious! Smooth, creamy, and chocolaty! What's great is they add a small donut hole to compliment the sweet creamy delight. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome! Friendly and quick with my order. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Awesome!
