It was extra chewy, dry, and absolutely tasteless. The lox was forgettable. The cream cheese was good, but that was it. Add on a very long wait time for a line that wasn't very long and less than friendly service and that leads to this low review. The only perk was the parking lot and arriving early on a Wednesday left ample parking. Will definitely try out another option next time we want bagels.

Honestly we went simple because the staff wasn't too helpful with recommendations due to how busy they were. We were in such a rush I didn't even take a picture! Please forgive me! I ordered a cup of kreplach soup, a pastrami sandwich, and a can of Dr. Brown's Cream Soda. The bill came to over $35. Unfortunately, the price was the least of my disappointments. The soup was fine, as was the soda. However, I had to ask for the pickles, which once came automatically with the meal. A small detail, perhaps, but another indication of declining service. The real disaster was the pastrami sandwich. At first glance, it appeared generously piled with meat. Upon closer inspection, however, I discovered that the pastrami had been heaped in the center, leaving both ends of the sandwich with nothing but bread. When I spread the meat out to cover the bread, what remained was a disappointingly thin sandwich. It was a deceptive presentation that made an already overpriced sandwich even more disappointing. Worse still, the pastrami was excessively greasy and nearly inedible. As I was eating, I actually had to pull several strange, rubbery strands out of my mouth. To my astonishment, when I grasped the ends of these strands and pulled, they stretched like rubber bands! Whether this was casing, gristle, or something else, I cannot say, but it was utterly revolting. Whatever happened to serving properly prepared, quality pastrami? To be fair, the restaurant has been remodeled, and the interior looks quite attractive. Unfortunately, a handsome dining room cannot compensate for dreadful food, diminished portions, and inflated prices. The Bagel was once a place where one could count on a satisfying deli meal. Based on my last two experiences, those days appear to be long gone. My advice? Save your money and your appetite. Chicago has far better places to enjoy a pastrami sandwich. I certainly won't be returning.

I ended up waiting about 20 minutes, so they move through it quickly. The jalapeño cheddar bagel was amazing, easily the highlight of my visit. The Bageler original sandwich was fine, my only gripe is that I would have liked more egg it. The hashy, on the other hand, was sweet and really good. Prices were solid across the board. Next time I'm trying the sausage one.
