4.5/5: Super easy to get a custom cake! They responded so quickly to my email request. My cake was the 3 tier, 6 inch cake: Blueberry Pancake cake, Vanilla icing, Maple Buttercream filling. Blueberry Pancake is really good; I would recommend getting the maple buttercream filling for the full pancake vibe, otherwise it tastes like a blueberry muffin. My only negative is the buttercream filling was thicker than the cake itself -- wish there was more cake than frosting, but it wasn't overly sweet so no biggie. They made it exactly how the Inso picture was. Really appreciate how they advised me to lighten the color bc it would be too bitter and would oxidize. The cake was a little under $80! Huge steal compared to other bakeries. Store is super clean and nice, so many option from when I came to pickup at 9 am. read more

Walked in expecting a quick, cheerful bakery stop -- the kind of place where you grab a couple cupcakes, maybe a cookie, and head out feeling lighter than when you came in. Instead, the entire experience got overshadowed by the person behind the counter, who seemed irritated from the moment we approached. Not rude in an explosive way, just that cold, clipped, "why are you here" energy that makes you second‑guess ordering anything at all. We opted not to tip, which is perfectly reasonable for counter service, especially when the service isn't exactly warm. The moment she saw that, the friendliness -- what little there was -- evaporated entirely. The vibe went from mildly unfriendly to openly frosty, like we'd personally offended her by existing. It's impressive, in a way, how quickly a simple bakery transaction can turn into a whole mood. As for the cupcakes... honestly, no idea. Couldn't tell you if they were good, bad, or somewhere in the middle, because the only thing we remembered afterward was the interaction. When the service leaves that strong an impression, the food doesn't stand a chance. Sweet Mandy B's might have great baked goods -- people certainly talk about them -- but based on this visit, the customer experience was the only flavor that lingered. read more

I decided to try three different cupcakes: Confetti, Ghost, and Red Velvet, along with an iced sugar cookie. The clear winner for me was the iced sugar cookie! The frosting was perfectly sweet, just the way I like it. The Red Velvet wasn't really my cup of tea, and the Confetti was just okay. I'd definitely give the cupcakes another try, but I'd go back for that iced sugar cookie alone! read more

What can I say? I'm a frosting girl and Sweet Mandy B's is the best spot to get my fix! If you love buttercream like I do, you'll find many treats here that will be right up your alley! From frosted cookies, cupcakes, and even cake by the slice, they also sell pies (including by the slice), brownies, scones, and all kinds of other goodies. There's definitely something for everyone (With a sweet tooth) here. It's a great spot! This location in particular had a lot of seating, as well, and is also accessible from the Northwestern Med building or from the street! I especially loved the Cookie Monster cupcake. Vanilla cake with a chocolate chip cookie baked at the bottom, with chocolate buttercream. I think. It was DELICIOUS! The perfect sweet treat! read more

All I can say is the chocolate fondant cupcake will change you life. It's flourless and very dense. Heated for about 30 seconds, it turned into a molten chocolate delight. I also enjoyed the M&M cookie but the cupcake is worth returning for. read more

This is a cute little spot by our Chicago hotel. When you walk in you smell nothing but sweetness. They have so many cute pastries and desserts. They really pride themselves with banana..lol. Rating is for service; Sweet Mandy B's is a Chicago classic for a reason, so my issue was with service only. It was a Sunday afternoon. There were maybe five employees. Most of them were lovely, but there was a tall dark-haired dude that honestly seemed to be bothering even his co-workers. He was brusque and frankly rude when I asked about a pastry, and was clearly mocking my group as we were being served. As if we couldn't hear him. One employee seemed completely checked out, which I understand since she had to deal with this guy. I would have disassociated, too. The person who rang me up seemed embarrassed, as this guy was clearly talking about me *at the register*. As we left he gave a really smarmy, insincere goodbye. Note, we were a small group of local women, all familiar with SMB's, not tourists. We were all weirded out by this guy. I've not received such awkward treatment before, I can only hope for that he wasn't the manager. SMB's, please save your business from this person! read more

This was my second visit to Sweet Mandy B's. There were plenty of sweets to choose from. My daughter and I narrowed it down to the Lunar New Year cupcake and the Oreo cheesecake. Both were great but a bit too sweet for me as I'm used to a more subtle sweetness like at Molly's. My daughter liked them just fine and is happy to come back in the future. read more

We came back home to Chicago to celebrate my birthday with our close friends. We called sweet Mandy B's to order a cake for our celebration. Michael took our order and set up delivery to the restaurant we were celebrating at. We called the day of the event to double check and everything was a go and even got a Happy Birthday wish! The cake was absolutely delicious and our guests raved about it! Thank you Sweet Mandy B's for making my birthday celebration so sweet. You never disappoint. read more

Always in the hunt for something sweet unfortunately , and came across this shop. At first glance I thought it was a cupcake only come to see that there are a whole variety of delights here including this banana cream pie and their features cinnamon roll. Holding back on eating too much on this trip, we opted for the banana cream pie. Our gold standard is Leoda's on Maui to compare to. I would give this pie a thumbs up in freshness, real whipped cream, fresh bananas and overall taste. The bottom crust was a bit wet which comes with time. Try adding a layer of chocolate! Be sure to stop by this shop for a nice pick me up. Support this local business. read more

I only tasted a yellow cupcake with chocolate and buttercream. Both were good, I loved the icing for both better than the cake. The flavor is good, but not as moist as I would like. Cute bakery right across from the Aloft Mag Mile! They provide all the cub cakes, brownies, cookies, gluten free options, and full cakes available for decorating of your choice! I tried the yellow cake, vanilla buttercream icing cupcake and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Cookie was a perfect blend of chocolate chips without overpowering the oatmeal. The cupcakes were very moist, not too sweet, and not too much icing. Definitely would go back...well, actually I did a couple of days later! read more

We stopped here to get a Mother's Day cake and they did not disappoint us. The cake was fresh, tasty and the frosting was perfect. It was not too heavy or sweet. They even added some wording to the top. Great customer service and a cute bakery. Wish we would have had the time to put in a custom order. Regardless, great selection for a holiday weekend. After reading all the great reviews, I came here with a friend to find a cake for another friend's birthday. The representative at the counter seemed a bit uncomfortable/intimidated/awkward in her role and wasn't very helpful. Instead, she just spent time palling around with her coworker and answered questions without elaborating. The cakes available for pickup were juvenile in their colors and decorations, with few flavor options. Underwhelmed, we opted to walk a block to Whole Foods, where the customer service was on point, the cake was decorated well, and it was delicious at a more reasonable price point. I wish we could've patronized a small business over big box stores, but lackluster service and minimal product offerings drove us elsewhere. read more

A Longtime Fan, but Lately... a Mixed Bag at Sweet Mandy B's I've been a loyal Sweet Mandy B's customer for more than five years. In that time, I've raved about their desserts to friends, hosted celebrations with their cakes, and considered them one of my go-to bakeries in the city. But over the last 12-18 months, something has shifted and the experience has become surprisingly hit or miss. The first indicator was a slice of their snickerdoodle cake that we tried several months ago. The cupcake had always been a favorite so we thought we would try the cake slice, but this time it arrived disappointingly dry. A few weeks later, we tried the banana cake slice, and it was a completely different story, moist, flavorful, and topped with a rich chocolate frosting that reminded me why I fell in love with Sweet Mandy B's in the first place. Their cupcakes were another longtime love of mine. However, they now come standard with sprinkles or chips on top. When I asked if I could get one without those toppings, I was told I'd need to place a custom order (which can't be done for a single cupcake). It felt surprisingly inflexible for such a small request. For a recent birthday, I ordered a yellow cake with chocolate icing. Unfortunately, it landed on the "miss" side of the spectrum, dry and crumbly. Thirteen guests tried it, and more than one commented that even a boxed mix would've tasted better. Lastly, we picked up the peanut butter Rice Krispies treats, a nostalgic favorite. These, too, were disappointing: stale, tough to cut, and ultimately left unfinished because no one enjoyed them. Bottom line: Sweet Mandy B's still has the ability to wow when they get it right. But the inconsistency in quality has become hard to overlook. As a longtime fan, I'm really hoping they return to the delicious reliability that made them such a standout in the first place. read more

Lovely local bakery that serves up classic american sweets. In terms of cupcakes, the cream cheese frosting on the carrot cupcake was a little too sweet. I really loved their confetti cupcakes and strawberry cupcakes though - they were moist, fresh, and their frostings were decadent yet balanced. Their rice krispie treat wasn't too good. It had the texture of a sponge and felt like eating a giant marshmallow instead of an actual rice krispie. The store is rather small, but they do have a few tables where you can stop by to enjoy your treats. We luckily came between rushes, so it was easy to find a spot. The staff seemed really nice too. read more

Sweet, sweet Mandy B's! I have found my new favorite cupcake in Chicago and can't believe I didn't visit sooner. The shop is super cute and pretty quiet inside. I arrived at a slow time, but near rush hour the crowds poured in. The staff was professional, friendly, and proactive about identifying dietary restrictions. There aren't as many cupcake varieties as Molly's, for example, as the shop focuses mostly on executing traditional flavors really, really well. However, they do have a rotating flavor of the month that is usually pretty interesting as well as many other sweet treats that I haven't tried. I ended up ordering the banana cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting, a snickerdoodle cupcake, and unfrosted cake tops as part of a Too Good to Go order. The latter was amazing- the confetti and banana cakes tasted just like pound cake, and were incredibly light and moist! I didn't miss the frosting at all, and wondered if its addition would be too sweet. However, the chocolate frosting on the banana cupcake was so creamy and light that it was extremely addicting! This is one of the best demonstrations of decadent-yet-light I have experienced. The cream cheese frosting on the snickerdoodle was rich and smooth, like the old-fashioned frosting that my grandmother used to make. It's safe to say I will be back soon, and would encourage anyone to pay a visit! read more

I had the chocolate pudding. Only two words can describe it. Top Notch. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I popped in to grab some last minute treats for a party and almost died at how absurdly expensive they are. $26 for 6 frosted cupcakes is obscene. Is SMB good, yes? That good, no. It would've been nice if the prices were on the sign, but I'm guessing they'd have less takers. If it weren't for convenience, poor planning on our part, and having already waited in line, I would've skipped it entirely. read more

Oy. Biggest pet peeve - no prices posted. :( Got two items - a chocolate chip cookie sandwich filled with cookie dough and Individual Banana Caramel Pudding - for nearly $15 including tax. Ugh. The chocolate chip cookie sandwich filled with cookie dough was at least tasty - it's a complete sugar overload, and should be shared with several people. Both the filling and the cookies were good. Took the banana caramel bread pudding home, and it was so disappointing. Didn't taste much banana, and the caramel on the top was just there. It's basically yellow cake with some caramel on top. Big letdown. read more

Disappointed -- Not Worth It Anymore I used to love Sweet Mandy B's, but I won't be back. The price for one cookie is now nearly $5 -- and for what? The size has noticeably shrunk, and the value just isn't there anymore. The quality hasn't improved with the price increase -- in fact, it's either stayed the same or slightly declined. You're paying more and getting less. Sadly, it's no longer worth it. read more

Lovely little city slice of cupcakes, desserts, and sweet people! I dropped in to try Too Good to Go app which works to reduce food waste and pass on best deals right to customers. Worked a charm, I quickly was loaded up with six cupcakes and scotcharoo cuts in a box for under five bucks via the app. They were so nice here too in their near indoor space! I loved it all, got to share chocolate, lemon, and guessing horchatta cupcakes with friends, great flavor and texture. Icing a bit mid for chocolate but tangy and full for the other two. Can recommend this for satisfying all sweet teeth! read more

Sweetness wonderland. The menu is so wide and the smells really hit you when you walk in the door. Really, there's almost too many things and reasons to come back. I've tried the rice krispy treat, rainbow sprinkle cookie, this banana bread pudding type of thing (see pictures), and the dream bar. I would recommend them all! You really can't go wrong. Fair warning, the stuff is really sweet (I guess that's where their name comes from). I usually split something with a friend or two because those flavors are too hard to resist. Feel free to ask the staff, they really know their sweets! One thing I'll highlight is the rice krispy treats. I usually don't gravitate towards them when I have a sweet craving - but one of my friends recommended them and I'm forever grateful. Give it a shot, trust me. read more
