Somewhere along the way, I decided my husband loves corn lattes. (I hope it's true because I've taken him to several places specifically to try their unique corn lattes.) Luckycat was a standout - the cornflake crunch and corn ice cream are very unique additions. We also tried the Thai Basil Strawberry Almond Croissant on our first visit, and this was very unique and tasty as well. Their biggest fault is the limited seating. On our second visit, we placed our order to enjoy there, but we were almost stuck without a table until the last minute. On this visit, we got the Roasted Grain Latte ($6.50), Matcha Granola + Yogurt ($6), a Breakfast Sandwich made vegetarian with hashbrown ($12), and another Corn Latte ($9). I will have to be more mindful of when they may be really busy to make sure I can fully enjoy them.
Came in for a yelp event last year and I finally made my way back! I love their matcha. It's never grassy tasting and it had that perfect earthy flavor to it. I opted to try their banana matcha latte and it was so good! It is on the sweeter side so I would recommend half sweet if you don't love sweet drinks. Their coffee beans are also always a hit and you can't go wrong with what you pick. The staff is always so nice. The tables are clean and there's about 12-16 seats for seating (tables with two seats per). I am itching to come back to try their black sesame latte!
Finally got around to trying Luckycat! Despite it being pretty packed on a Saturday morning, the experience was nice. The inside of the shop gives a bright and relaxing energy. They ask that you do not use laptops/WFH during peak times via a prominent sign by the pick up area. Even with a line out the door, it only took about 15 minutes to order and get my beverage. I would've loved to grab one of the yummy pastries, I wasn't able to on this morning. They had a lot of options, as well as hot breakfast options (rice bowls, sandwiches) that looked incredible. I got a banana milk latte with espresso -- it was pretty good, with a very subtle hint of miso and strong banana flavor. I wouldn't get it again but their menu was filled with unique drinks I'd love to try!
Lucky Cat is probably one of the most interesting coffee shops I've been to. Their flavours were so intriguing and we were super excited to try them all. We got the black sesame latte, the miso maple latte, sweet bloom matcha and some bakery items as well. The black sesame latte has a strong sesame flavour and almost didn't taste like coffee. My personal fav was the miso maple. Loved the sweet and savoury combination.
Arguably the best matcha and latte I had while in Chicago. And that's my super short show!
I was not a huge fan of my Coco Matcha drink at Lucky cat. It was truly hard to get through and was over $10 which is ridiculous to pay for a single drink. Small café with about six tables, service was fine.
Yummy matcha and breakfast sandwich. Service is quick and the staff is super nice and friendly. Great place to study and hang.
Luckycat is such a welcomed addition to the neighborhood! This corner has a lot of big name stores around it, so seeing a local coffee shop is such a breath of fresh air. The inside is really cute (and tiny!) every seat when filled, so if you're looking to get some work done definitely come a little bit early to snag a seat. I went with the coconut cloud cold brew. So yummy!! The coconut cold foam isn't overly sweet, but it balances the bitterness of the cold brew really nicely. I definitely need to come back to try the miso maple latte -- it sounds delicious!
Tl;dr: strong offerings ruined by seats always taken by WFH crowd. In my opinion, the most compelling new coffee shop opening in 2025. The drip coffees are interesting and delicious, same for the lattes, and the breakfast sandwich is one of my favorites in Chicago. In my already few trips here, the baristas have all been fantastic and friendly. The massive issue with Luckycat is the insane WFH crowd who will take up all tables for hours. Trying to come on a weekend? Forget it, unless you're happy with a grab-and-go experience. I finally went on a weekday and was surprised all tables were again taken with WFH customers. My friend and I stood at the counter for 30+ minutes to enjoy our coffee and bites. Some people walked in and immediately left. Personally as much as I love the coffee and food menu here, and the interior design is gorgeous, I no longer see the appeal until the WiFi is turned off and laptop time is limited.
I was excited to try this new cafe and the interior is beautiful! Nice neutral wood tones, but I love the green tile on the bar. There is a row of seating for more small groups. I'm a matcha girlie through and through, but I also love black sesame and the staff gave me the genius idea to go a little off-menu for a matcha black sesame. The matcha was really smooth and th tea shined through, plus I enjoyed the nuttiness of the black sesame shining through. I did sub for oat milk was well which is an additional charge which is normal to most places now. I also ordered the Breakfast sandwich which was especially delicious! It feels like an elevated breakfast sandwich with the flavor profile. The egg was soft and I want that hot honey chili crisp on everything! Looking forward to coming back and trying coffee options and more menu items! The chia pudding is calling my name for next time.
Nice open clean space. Good music and most importantly, great coffee. Also had the breakfast sandwich. Loved the combo of the hot honey (not real spicy) and the smokey bacon on a fresh roll.
I came across LUCKYCAT on my TikTok feed and decided to treat myself to a beverage on a particularly rainy day. When I came in on a Wednesday late morning, it was decently full. They have a few tables, but it isn't a huge space--I could definitely see seating being an issue. However, I managed to find a spot and they do have Wi-Fi, so I was thankfully able to get some work done! I quite enjoyed my drink. I went with the Warm Sweater Matcha. I love both cardamom and matcha but had never tried the combination of the two flavors. Upon first sip, I was pleasantly surprised; they complemented each other so well, and it was such a perfect fall drink. I still think the matcha could have been stronger, but it definitely was better than other matcha spots I've tried in Chicago! They had some yummy-looking food items on the menu, so I will hopefully be back soon to try those out. Definitely adding LUCKYCAT to my list of Chicago cafes!
Lucky Cat is a modern café that blends specialty coffee, matcha, and creative latte flavors into a menu that feels more experimental than a typical coffee shop. We walked into a clean, contemporary space with an Asian-inspired influence, creating a relaxed atmosphere that works well for stopping by for a drink, catching up with friends, or taking a break from the neighborhood. The design is thoughtful without being overly fussy, with enough seating to accommodate both quick stops and longer visits. The drink menu is where Lucky Cat stands out, especially with its specialty lattes that incorporate unique flavors. The Miso Maple Latte is one of the more interesting options, combining a subtle savory note from the miso with a sweeter maple flavor that makes the drink feel different without becoming overwhelming. Their matcha also stands out for having a smooth, vibrant profile with a good balance between the tea flavor and added flavors. The Miso Maple Matcha with coconut cold foam and macadamia milk is a strong choice if you want something that still lets the matcha come through while adding extra layers of flavor. The Sweet Bloom Matcha Latte brings in wildflower honey and osmanthus for a more delicate floral direction, while the hojicha latte offers a deeper roasted flavor. Each drink feels intentional, with the flavor combinations working together rather than competing. The café also puts effort into its food and smaller menu items, with options like breakfast sandwiches and sesame chia pudding adding more variety beyond drinks. The breakfast sandwich combines savory flavors with a touch of sweetness and spice, making it a good pairing with one of their lattes. The sesame chia pudding is a lighter option that fits the café's overall approach to thoughtful, balanced menu items. The food selection is not extensive, but what is available complements the drink menu well. Service is efficient and the baristas help keep the experience smooth even when the café gets busy. They are knowledgeable about the menu and willing to explain the more unusual flavor combinations, which is helpful given the range of creative options. The combination of thoughtful drinks, creative flavor combinations, and a well-designed space makes Lucky Cat feel like more than just a quick coffee stop. It is a good place to visit when you want a specialty drink that feels carefully crafted rather than a standard latte or matcha.

I stopped by this spot one Saturday morning after work and arrived a bit too early for their croissants. The staff kindly suggested I try their yuzu tart instead, and I'm glad I did--it was absolutely delightful. They encouraged me to come back the following week at a better time for the croissants, and I took their advice. It was well worth it. The croissant was one of the best I've ever had--perfectly made and memorable. Service was quick, and everyone I interacted with was warm, kind, and welcoming. The space itself is small and quaint, which adds to its charm. Overall, a great experience from start to finish. I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you get the chance. read more
Thank you for a delicious treat. Right near Clark & Diversey and serves up an Asian inspired coffee and pastry experience. I went and got my coffee to go. Was quite busy or else I would have stayed in the cafe. GOGUMA LATTE: Korean inspired sweet potato latte! Espresso or matcha latte made with sweet potato milk, spiced honey syrup, honey cloud foam. Served with Goguma Cookie Sandwich The latte was definitely 5/5 stars. It did take awhile to get the drink (there were a lot of employees behind the counter?). The girl who checked me out hardly interacted with me, so that's why I took off one star. Overall, a good experience. Looking forward to coming back! read more
The Black Sesame Latte 6/10 honestly tasted like tofu to me. I did appreciate that it wasn't too sweet, and it had a toasty, nutty flavor profile, but the tofu-like taste just wasn't for me. The Goguma Latte 9/10 was delicious! It had sweet potato milk, spiced honey syrup, and creamy honey cloud foam. I loved the texture from the sweet potato milk and the thick, creamy foam on top. I kinda chugged this one, so I forgot to pay attention to how the espresso tasted, but the overall drink was so good. It also came with a Goguma Cookie Sandwich, which had more of a cake texture. The cafe is cute and a great spot for studying, although there are only about five tables. They also provide water, which is always a plus. read more

This space is so cute! The staff is also nice & very quick. I ordered a matcha & it was the best matcha I had during my whole trip in Chicago! I would 100% recommend for anyone visiting or that lives in Chicago. The matcha was nice and creamy & not overly sweet. and I could tell that it was high quality!! The restroom is also very cute & very clean! Definitely will be back if I'm ever in Chicago again! 5 starrrssss read more
It's a cool new coffee spot in the neighborhood. I was very excited to try. The service was great - nice people working there. The cold brew was delicious (very strong actually! I felt jittery for a while after drinking- just an fyi- but still it was worth it). The only reason why I took a star off was because of the pastry selection. It was very limited and not in line with the overall theme of the cafe. Plus for la Boulangerie pastries, which we all know how much it costs, the mark up was on a higher side than other cafes that sell them (plain croissant was $6 I believe?). Also given the theme of the cafe, I thought there would be some cool Asian inspired or matcha flavored pastries which was not the case and didn't live up to the expectation read more

This is my first time here, and I got their breakfast sandwich with bacon and their matcha latte. The breakfast sandwich was very good! I loved the sweetness from the bacon since it paired well with the fluffy bread and egg. The matcha latte wasn't too bad; it was lacking a bit of sweetness and not my favorite. The service was very nice though! The cashier recommended me stuff, and she told me about the drinks. The ambiance is very aesthetically pleasing and nice! I'd definitely come here to do work or relax for a coffee session. I'll say that the breakfast sandwich is a little pricey for what you get, but it's very tasty! And the drink prices aren't back for a spot like this! I'd definitely come back to try their other drinks! read more
Really enjoyed this friendly Asian-inspired coffee shop! Loved the aesthetics the moment I walked in -- clean, modern, and cozy at the same time. We tried quite a few drinks: an iced matcha latte with osmanthus, iced black sesame latte, iced radiant latte (with Taiwan black sugar and ginger), Kyoto-style cold brew with coconut cold foam, and a hot classic latte. Everything was delicious! While the coconut foam didn't pair perfectly with the deep, dark Kyoto-style cold brew, the iced matcha and rich, hearty hot classic latte were standouts. The radiant latte tasted like an Asian milk tea-meets-coffee combo in a good way. Also loved the breakfast Sammy -- the bread and the sweet-and-sour sauce were the highlights. Highly recommend adding bacon for some extra crunch and meaty texture. read more

I got the breakfast sandwhich, luckycat cookie, and gaowen tea. The hot honey chilly crisp oil made the sandwhich so good with the hint of sweetness. The bun was also good. The cookie was okay. A little too sweet with the amount of chocolate chips, wish the miso flavor was a little stronger. The gaowen tea was pleasant too - I usually like black teas. There are about 5-6 tables. Good space to do work. The main feedback I have is I wish there was a clearer display of a menu somewhere, instead of only finally being able to look at it when at the front of the line and feeling rushed to pick something. Overall nice to try. I would come back to do work or try other items. read more
So happy Lucky Cat opened up in the neighborhood! The space is adorable!!! It's cozy, clean, and super aesthetically pleasing. The vibe feels warm and welcoming, and everyone working there just seemed genuinely happy to be there. I tried the Autumn Sweater Matcha (had a nice hint of cardamom) and the Sweet Bloom Matcha Latte with macadamia milk loved the subtle osmanthus flavor (my fav) . The matcha itself tasted authentic, and you can tell the baristas/cashiers all enjoyed working there and they spent time to do latte art for us! I'm just so happy to see another mom and pop coffee shop to open up in the neighborhood, north Chicago doesn't have enough cafes imo. Esp stoked that it specializes in tea and matcha type drinks read more
Finding this store by searching matcha latte. It's a cozy and small size cafe. I visited 2 times, one for matcha latte and one for black sesame latte. They tasted okay. The dessert that really impressed me is basque cheesecake and you can choose paste - I choose black sesame and it didn't disappoint me! read more
So glad a matcha place opened near me!! I feel like the quality of matcha at coffeeshops in general has fallen recently, however I'm never disappointed when I come to Lucky Cat! Every time I come I get something different, but I really enjoy the flavored matcha drinks with the macadamia nut milk. The servers are always very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The cafe itself is so cute, and plenty of seating for studying or working remotely. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a cafe and a good matcha in the area!! read more
Cute space with interesting sounding drinks and food options. It's quite popular but the staff keeps things moving. There are a few tables, but they seem to go quick, so have a backup plan. I got the wallflower latte, which was very good but I'm not sure I tasted the cardamom or the orange blossom. I also got the breakfast sandwich, which was freshly made and looked amazing, but was just a bit too greasy and sweet for my taste. I'll definitely be back to try their filter coffee or cold brew next time, and one or two of their pastries. read more

A great addition to the neighborhood, Lucky Cat offers unique coffee options, breakfast items, and local pastries. We came here on a Sunday morning to study and get some work done. It is a smaller location so there wasn't many spots, but we were lucky enough to find one. We tried: - Black Sesame Latte - Sweet Bloom Matcha Latte - Breakfast Sandwich - Chocolate Hazelnut Muffin The coffee was flavorful, the sesame came through nicely. I'm not a fan of matcha but was told the sweetness helped. The breakfast sandwich was very tasty, the hot honey chili crisp was a nice touch. I'll definitely come back! read more
So happy to have a new matcha spot in Lakeview! The Sweet Bloom Matcha Latte was wonderful--beautifully made and delicious, though a bit on the pricey side. The food is alright, but I'd definitely come more for the drinks than anything else. My only complaint is the limited seating. I wish there were more spots to sit and enjoy your drink. Despite that, it's a great addition to the neighborhood for matcha lovers. I'll be back for more matcha lattes! read more

The workers were really nice and I received my drink quickly! The yuzu matcha latte had a strong matcha flavor and the hint of yuzu really topped it off! I've been following this brand for a couple of years, from way back when they did pop-ups at Boonies. The drinks are delicious and unique and the merch is Highly recommend to check out the single origin coffee beans as well. It seems like they're super thoughtful about where they source and roast. I've never had coffee from China before. The medium roast tastes almost like tea, it's so fragrant and lovely. read more
