Dark Matter Coffee is great - the Agave Latte is by far my favorite compared to their other lattes and mochas that I've tried. It's creamy, sweet but not too sweet, and overall a great flavor profile. It seems like a great place to study or work as well. You can often find many people working diligently (and relatively quietly) so the ambiance is great. I don't often write such low of a review but the one star is for the staff. On most occasions I've only encountered the friendliest of people - in fact the first time I visited and had a hard time choosing a drink, the individual at the register was so kind and helped me make a choice based on what I typically enjoy at other coffee shops. However today I had the absolute WORST experience where the barista was so rude to me after they took my order wrong. All I wanted was the coffee I ordered and calmly explained how there must have been a mix up. In return I was basically shamed multiple times for asking for the right coffee instead of the one they tried to give me and I was just baffled by how passive aggressive the staff member was. My family and I will not be returning to this location again. Go for the coffee and the vibes but just be extra careful to triple check your order is taken correctly at the register.
Pretty standard coffee place. Homemade syrups! Don't taste sage much though. Slightly spicy because of the black pepper which was interesting. Overall, a good spot to get a coffee if you're in the area. Hipster vibe environment which was cool, very artistic with friendly staff.
During a recent visit to Chicago, I walked by this coffee shop two mornings in a row and was stopped in my tracks each time by the aromas escaping their front door. On my third morning, I decided to stop in. Several people had already assumed their positions at one of the tables inside, enjoying a bev and free wi-fi, when I was greeted warmly by the team member behind the counter. I decided on a hot chai latte, with oat milk and a shot of espresso. The flavors were so earthy and unrefined, like real coffee and tea should taste! I was also strong armed (not really) into trying a cinnamon old fashioned donut. This was a bonus because the donuts are brought in from Do-Rite Donuts and Chicken which was another establishment I was wanting to try while in town. The donut was nicely sized, moist and flavorful...all the things you want a donut to be! I look forward to the next time I'm in Chi-town when I will start my every morning with Osmium coffee!
Came in the morning for coffee in this place in Lakeview East on Belmont. It's about all they have. Osmium is a good place to do some working. Has quite a hipster atmosphere. There's cold and hot drinks as well as a few pastries. A place to look at art while having coffee. It's got all these paintings from local artists for sale. This is the second best thing here to spend your money on though. Coffee is the main reason why people come. It's about $4 for the cheapest stuff. Actually not that bad for the area. The Agave Latte is one of the popular specialties. It's made with chocolate and cinnamon. The pastries also looked good, but there were eggs in these. Best place around here for hipster ass coffee. It's got pretty okay prices. There's non dairy milks for vegans.
Osmium Coffee Bar is suchhhhhh a vibe. I really like how this place has art all over their walls. When ordering a latte they also have art in those too =) It's a fun spot to grab a drink and hang out for a bit. I was here with a large group for a mid day caffeine treat and service was quick. It took about 10 mins for all of our orders to be prepared. Drinks are strong and delicious. They also have drinks that have a big spicy kick to em. This was a first time for me and I appreciated how unique their drinks are. They also have the classics, drip coffee, regular lattes, etc. There is plenty of seating, can fit about 40-50 people comfortably. Tables and seating at the coffee bar. I highly recommend checking this spot out if in the Lakeview area.
Amazing spot with many, many coffee options. Free refills if you get drip coffee--ask for a mug if you're planning to stay a bit! Friendly staff; mix of people working, on calls, and chatting. :) Didn't sit there, but there's also great seats by the window if you like people watching
Such a delightful unique coffee shop. Good vibes inside. They have some of the most unique specialty latte combinations I've seen. I'm still dreaming about Dolor De Oro, it is the perfect winter drink, the perfect swicy hug with a delicious balance between the sweetness of the chocolate and the spice of the cinnamon and habenero. Good things are worth waiting for, expect longer waits than say Starbucks. My barrista made a lovely design on my latte, will be back!
This was an awesome place! I ordered drip coffee for hubby and I ordered the Aged Barrel Mocha. It was great! Made me drunk! Just kidding! It tasted so delicious! Yummy! Service and ambiance was great! The art was something too that even my 6yo daughter liked it and tried to analyze the mural. Overall, it was a great experience!
I went to do some remote work there on a Friday morning and it was PACKED. At the same time, the wifi wasn't working so plan accordingly. Menu-wise, I was impressed by the specialty coffees. I'll definitely be coming back (when I don't need to work) to order some of their honey drinks. They all look delicious and I loved the fun cups and music playing!
Decided to revisit Osmium today. Went with the Barrel Aged Mocha, which is barrel Aged espresso with chocolate and vanilla notes. It was great! They have most of all your favorite Dark Matter Coffee drinks at this location. The baristas were friendly and quick with my order. Don't forget to get a punch card or bring your old one to get a free drink in the future. Very chill set up with seats at the bar and tables available to get work done. Parking may get a little tight, but meter parking outside. Definitely worth a visit when in the Lakeview area!
Awesome place to pass a couple of hours. There's also a patio where you can relax outside if the weather is nice. The staff are very nice here and the selection is great - just a few, select specialties rather than an incredibly long menu. Whether you're looking for a spot to read for a bit or to get some work done, Osmium will take care of you.

This has been on my list of coffee shops to go to when I'm in Chicago. The interior is very cool and the guys working there were super friendly. I decided to try a drip with a cranberry scone. I'm a fan of dark matter coffee so that is always good. I also really enjoyed my scone as it was buttery and sweet. Can't wait to come back next time I'm in Chicago
Stopped by to grab a coffee and get some work done before roaming into 8th inning Wrigleyville. Ordered a hot barrel aged mocha. It was the perfect pick me up I need. This spot is a dope little coffee shop. Rock music playing, lots of art and stickers, and a wall full of wacky looking whole bean coffees to choose from. The staff are also very friendly. Great spot to get away from home a little and have a nice afternoon coffee. read more
I wanted to like this place as it was recommended to me - but unfortunately if you don't have a good espresso, I can't recommend. It was unfortunately undrinkable, tasted like battery acid. It was also like half of a shot - the little espresso glass (the smallest oz) was half full... so that's officially the smallest shot of espresso I've ever received. Point added only for location, space, and quirky/grundgy?/artsy vibes if that's what you're looking for. read more

Funky, chill vibes at this colorful coffee shop on Belmont. Service is friendly and they sell Cafe Tola breakfast items! I ordered an agave cinnamon oat milk latte (light on agave) and a bfast burrito. The coffee temp was perfect with a hint of agave and spice. Wish the cinnamon was more pronounced but still a satisfying cup of joe. Love the double heart latte art and the huge patio out back. Inside, lots of bar seating and tables but 90% packed with WFH folks. read more
Are you visiting or living in Chicago right now and wondering where you should go for coffee? Hop on the L and take the red line to Belmont to check Osmium (Dark Matter) out. We stopped by here after a Cubs game one afternoon, bought a couple of bags of beans, drinks and hung out for a bit before heading back to our hotel. To drink, I ordered an almond milk cortado which was smooth, no bitterness whatsoever and the espresso they were using that day had a hint of sweetness to the bean. I drained it before we even left because it was so good. My husband ordered an iced vanilla almond milk latte which was very good. The coffee was strong and the vanilla wasn't overpowering or too sweet which balanced his drink out nicely. We grabbed a bag of 'Another Side' which we're brewing at home this week. It has notes of cocoa, dried fig and almonds. It's a light to medium roast and goes down easily but leaves an aftertaste I'm not fond of. We also bought a bag of 'A Love Supreme' which is their house blend. That had notes of cocoa, walnuts and toffee. I'm excited to try this one to see if I can taste the walnuts which is one of my favorite notes in a roasted bean. read more

Osium was overall a good experience! Very fun atmosphere. Would definitely come for a cup of coffee with a friend. I came to study, though, and found the music was a little too loud and upbeat. I found myself jamming along to Kesha and Lil Jon more than actually focusing on my work. A little too much for a coffee shop in my opinion, but it did have a fun vibe. The wall art was awesome! Coffee was decent! I got a 16oz vanilla latte and it was tasty. It came in a big glass, rather than a mug which is pretty unique. I'm a little more traditional and prefer a mug, but it fit with the more hipster feeling here. The blueberry donut was recommended by the barista and I really loved it. Great texture, tasted a little like a crumbly coffee cake. Would definitely come back, just maybe under another pretense than needing to study. read more
The atmosphere is super chill. It was busy but they also have a patio which isn't covered so you get some sun but they have plenty of outlets. The coffee is fabulous. It's not overly sweet and even iced doesn't taste watered down after a while. The barista was helpful and patient with me since it was my first time in. Got my coffee quick and love that they use paper straws! read more
Great staff and great tasting coffee. Went in for just a simple cup of black coffee. Was in and out and reasonably priced. The guy that took my order was such a nice guy. The coffee itself was delicious. No cream or sugar needed. Nothing much to really add at this point but I'll definitely be returning to check out a few of their other coffee options. They had a relatively small menu when I went it and it seems like they had a lot more offerings a while back. I hope they bring some of those back. But for now their Drip Coffee is all I need. read more

Can you really ever go wrong with Dark Matter Coffee?! I think not. Quick and friendly service. Great little spot to hide away from the hustle of the city and enjoy a cup of Joe with friends. I have never had a problem getting street parking in front. Love this place. read more
Agave latte (4*): Tad sweet but the agave lends a unique flavor along with the cinnamon Vanilla suburbs nitro (3*): This is served without ice, but it wasn't as creamy as I would expect of a nitro drink. And I just didn't taste the vanilla in this. But I still rate it as average because the barista gave us some complimentary oat milk to add in and it rounded out the flavor a lot better. They have been here 8 years but I some how have passed this place likely 100 times before stopping in today. Iv been missing out- this is an adorable likely former bar turned coffee shop. Lots of in door seating and a ver y cute barebones outdoor patio. Milk substitute options available. Delicious drinks. Housemade syrups for lattes. I wish they had a sugar free syrup option but other than that I was a satisfied customer. Not a huge food selection: A few food items for purchase are sold here from Cafe Toula and there is a case of donuts as well. The line out the door let's me know I'm not the only one who thinks this place is great ( don't worry -it moves pretty quickly) read more
Stopped in on a Wednesday late morning to check out the amazing artwork on the walls (think fever dream/LSD induced graffiti vibes), stayed for a nitro cold brew (of four on tap!). The staff is kind, friendly and patient. They have some baked goods- vegan, gluten free too. The music is a bit loud and for some reason the wifi does not have a routable IP v4 physical adapter, so if you're trying to log into a government VPN, it's not going to work, Maybe not a problem in this town, but I'm visiting from DC and am a federal employee. I couldn't use my computer and had to relocate for work. I will be stopping back in later to buy some canned cold brew for home! SO SMOOTH. Comes in a plastic cup which is a bummer but oh well, they did warn me it would not be served in a glass. read more

I found this place just a few hours before my flight back to California, and I wish I had discovered it sooner. I was really impressed with how inviting and attentive the staff were. I even bought one of their sweaters, despite my luggage being full! The drinks were perfect, and the pistachio donut (I forgot the exact name) was delicious. I asked for strong coffee, and the barista nailed it. I only wish I had more time to enjoy the patio. Had a great time before leaving and would definitely return if I'm in Chicago again! read more

Funky cool coffee spot! I stopped in early one morning just as the sun was coming up. The colorful shop lit nice and bright against the backdrop of the dark morning drew me in. The place looks fantastic. Colorful artwork and tons of swag really made the place eye catching. The girls working that morning were super cute and very friendly. They were helpful and I felt appreciated. The menu looks fantastic. The names of the coffee options were very intriguing. However, I ordered a simple black coffee. It was nice and hot and I liked it but I didn't love it. The finish was a but sour which put me off a bit. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and want to return to try one of the creative lattes next time. read more

love that this place is open late, not many coffee places are in chicago! great vibes/interior with enough seating, could be more but they have a lot of tables given the space. i ordered a vanilla latte and it was a little strong for my preference but it was also one of the most affordable lattes i've had in the city. read more
