There's a fair amount of seating considering the size of the place. Wasn't able to get a spot today unfortunately, but we did go at a busy time on a Sunday morning. I got the honey and lavender specialty latte with soy milk. I get mixed feelings about lavender - sometimes it tastes pretty soapy to me. I thought this was delicious! I went here with a friend the other day and we ended up spending a good deal of the afternoon just relaxing and catching up. Even though we were seated at a regular table, the place had a comfortable vibe and it was easy to settle into. The counter women were efficient, nice, and filled our orders promptly. They did give my friend the wrong size coffee at first, but corrected it quickly and without any problem. One thing I didn't love: my cappuccino was served in a Styrofoam cup while we were staying there. If you're drinking in, it really should come on a ceramic cup and saucer. Save the Styrofoam for takeout! The best part was that we stayed for a couple of hours and no one hovered over us, or made us feel like we had to leave. As for the coffee itself, it was just okay. Not bad, but not memorable either. That's a shame too, because the space is so comfy. 4.5 stars due to a very foamy latte top. The latte itself was good, the espresso was smooth and the milk was well frothed aside from the top half inch. I got a guava and cheese pastry and it was phenomenal. I need to ask who they source their baked goods from next time I visit because I might need to buy them in bulk! Ample seating for such a small spot, restroom was available, decor and ambiance was relaxing and tranquil. The music has french jazz sound, think "the original L Word intro" song. I recently came back to Cafe Deko with my mom and it's just the cutest spot. The decor is everything -- I love all the little details, like the monkey's holding all the light fixtures, tile floors, and cute wallpaper. I came on a Friday afternoon and it was jam packed -- it made me happy to see Cafe Deko is thriving! I ordered an iced vanilla latte and it was super smooth and creamy without being too overly sweet, which is exactly how I like it. We took our drinks to-go, but I definitely plan to come back here to work again soon! I'll just make sure I come on the earlier side to make sure I can get a table. read more

I have been dyyyying to check out Cafe Deko because helloooo how cute is it!? I've seen so many photos and followed them on instagram for a while, so I was thrilled to find myself in the area with a couple free hours one day. I was surprised the inside wasn't larger, although they really do pack a lot of (beautiful) tables inside! There's counter seating, booth type couch seating, and cute little tables. The chairs were especially comfortable, which is always a bonus when you will be working for a couple hours or so! Worth noting, however, that the WiFi went out multiple times in the two hours I was working from here. This caused the music in the cafe to stop entirely, their pay system goes down so you can't order/pay, and, of course, it affects the work flow! That said, I was a bit disappointed because found the product to be just okay. The coffee itself wasn't anything to write home about. I got an iced white chocolate mocha. It was fine. I also grabbed a sandwich for lunch and was very underwhelmed. It was a chipotle chicken sandwich (chicken, bacon, Gouda, roasted peppers and chipotle sauce) and while it sounded tasty, I thought the chicken looked funky (see the pic and let me know what you think, maybe I'm just being weird?). I also noticed the staff often just stands around behind the counter on their phones, when they could be refilling the empty water canister, or clearing plates from people. I just thought that could be a nice above-and-beyond customer service touch in their down time. Overall it's a nice looking spot, and a comfortable place to work from, but I wouldn't recommend the food, and I'd just get a coffee without high expectations. read more

I'm a regular at the Printer's Row location and I'm glad I got to visit this location too. Beautiful decor and tasty drinks. Friendly staff and comfy seating. It definitely got crowded in the late morning. Lots of people working at tables. I almost didn't get a seat at first but then I got lucky, and it thinned out more in the afternoon. Good beverages. I enjoyed my iced hazelnut latte and my iced matcha latte. The temperature was a bit too warm for me inside but it was overall a pleasant experience. Lovely cafe and lots of natural light. read more

I will admit, I went to this coffee shop based off of the beautiful images I saw online! I came across Cafe Deko on Instagram, and as I was coming to Chicago for the marathon, I added it to my list of places to visit. The decor alone is really beautiful, and I wish I had had time to sit inside and enjoy it more. I got a coffee to go, and the service was friendly and warm. The coffee was really delicious, and as someone with a dairy allergy, I always love when shops have nondairy options. I visited this coffee shop yesterday after wanting to try it out for a long time. It's out of the way for me, but I've heard good things so I wanted to give it a try. I was super excited to go and have a coffee and a bite for lunch as my mother in law was watching my two young children, allowing me to have some "me" time for the first time in a LONG time. I ordered a chai latte and then tried to order a sandwich from their list of delicious sandwiches. A red haired barista from the back heard me order and turned to me and said "I'm sorry., we're not doing sandwich orders right now. We are under staffed and I'm about to leave. I could get you a bagel or something but no sandwiches." So, confused, as it was lunch time and there were 3 people behind the bar, I decided on a croissant and sat down. Meanwhile, the women sitting at the table next to me each had sandwiches and chips. The barista was there the entire time I was at the cafe, so we wasn't "leaving" as she said. No reason I couldn't have a sandwich. She clearly just didn't want to make it. As I sat there, I noticed another barista leaning against the counter on her phone, and a new barista come in and introduce himself to the crew. I love the vibe and the variety of seating options - tables, booths, and high bar seats. I was lucky enough to get a small table for me and three friends on an early Sunday afternoon. I'm not a coffee drinker and wasn't too hungry so I bought a buttery croissant which was good and perfectly flakey. Customer service is quick and friendly. Love love love this place!!! Went here with my girlfriends on a short trip to Chicago and the coffee was delightful. When we ordered, the staff was super friendly and immediately struck up conversation with us. Coffee and Matcha tasted lovely and was so quick to come out. We didn't end up trying any of the food, but saw others eating and it looked delicious. The place itself is so cool architecturally. They had signs out indicating that this was a screen free zone, at least the day we went, and it created for a super lively environment. Will definitely return if we are in Chicago again. read more

Charming space with good coffee, however - beware you are not allowed to use your laptop (I'm not sure about cell phones). My usual go-to coffee (which allows laptops) is across the street. However, you want to support your local business right?. In my case, there were a few emails I needed to get out and a good cup of coffee (which they have) would have been perfect - while getting a few emails out. Yet, I was politely told "no can do". There was a sign posted near the door (inside the cafe); which I saw after being reprimanded. Had I seen the notice outside the door, I would not have gone in (with the intent to get a few things done). I believe I understand the rational - and now understand this is a screen/safe cafe. What are the odds it will remain that way? Time would tell. On the flipside, it is charming and hope it goes well. You get 3-stars because I didn't know before entering. read more
