This spot is known as one of the best matcha spots, so I had to try it for myself. The vibes were cool and there's a lot of seating, but they don't allow working on laptops, so not really a study spot. Service was normal, nothing standout. The matcha was a letdown for me. The mango passion flavor completely overpowered it, so I couldn't taste the matcha at all. It felt more like a juice than a matcha drink. The breakfast sando was just okay. I didn't love the tartar aioli chili sauce, but the crispy hashbrown inside was a nice touch. I like that they're a Ukrainian-founded coffee brand with a focus on quality beans and unique flavors, but based on this visit I'd probably try something else next time. read more

Cool little coffee shop in Lincoln park definitely worth trying! I came here with my child on a Friday morning around 10am, it was busy but there were still seats. I got a cold brew, the strawberry croissant, and I got my child an apple juice and a pecan chocolate chip cookie. The croissant was so good, beyond incredible, there was whipped cream, strawberry flavored, on the inside. It was so sweet, soft, and definitely a must try when here. Tried to go to Pop up bagels on Sunday morning and then we realized we didn't wanna wait in line for an hour! So here we are! There was still a line, but it wasn't too bad. We both got the breakfast sandwich and honestly??? It was so so good. I always want to try the good breakfast sandwich sandwiches in Chicago and then I never do so this was fun! It was $17 with adding avocado (Honestly, you could've skipped that) But the eggs are super unique because they have corn in them, which added such a lovely sweetness. There's no meat, but there is a really crispy hashbrown, and some good cheese and some sort of spicy spread. Honestly, it was great. We were contemplating if we wanted to go all the way to Lincoln park for coffee and food from downtown, but we are glad that we did. This place is packed on weekends for sure, but they have ample of seating spaces and we were able to get a table fairly quickly. My friends and I ordered Cortado, mango passion match and Macchiato for drinks and we ordered shakshuka and avocado bread for food. Everything was absolutely amazing! I have been on this spree of finding best shakshukas in the city and Soloway definitely tops the list. It was very flavorful and the portion size was great for the price we paid. The hype about Soloway coffee is fully justified. The coffee and the food were really great. They have a lot of seating but this place is squally very just in the weekends so you might have to wait to get a spot to sit. The order lines can be long too. We got the mango passion fruit matcha, Cortado and a mocha. They had great sessional options on the menu too but we didn't try them. The coffee order was ready quickly but the food took around 15 mins. My friends got the shakshuka and the avocado toast. For the price, the portion size and the taste were impressive. My friend and I stopped here while I was visiting her in Chicago, and I had the sudden urge to try matcha for the first time. I was not disappointed. I got the passion fruit mango matcha with coconut milk as recommended by the person taking my order, and it was absolute perfection. I also got a strawberry croissant not realizing that it would have a creamy strawberry filling, and wow... I'm a croissant girlie, and this was easily a top 5 for me. Brief review- the environment at Soloway is more of a cafe (with food) than a specialty coffee roaster. The food looks fantastic and I'm glad people are enjoying the space but I'd say this isn't the destination if you're wanting a singular excellent cup of coffee. I got the Ethiopia Kochore drip which was fantastic but the pour over menu is limited despite Soloway being a roaster. I assume this is just the market demand of the area. My college roomie and I were super excited to try this because many of our friends and Reddit had recommended this as one of the best matchas in the city. Sadly, maybe we went on a very off day. The matcha latte was quite milk heavy. We probably needed to try their mango passion fruit matcha latte that everyone recommends. My iced vanilla latte (decaf) with whole milk was delish though!! A very solid choice, and the drinks come out super speedily. They have a no laptop policy except for a few select tables, so this is the place to sit and enjoy breakfast or a cafe lunch with your friends!! First off even if there was no one behind me, you still get this glare to order as quickly as possible like even if there is no one behind me. The menu is kind of extensive I need some time to review. The drink I got was so meh like idk Wtheck that was Passionfruit mango green tea. Tasted like goddamn water... Stopped in because I needed to use the bathroom (it was a non-stop line, it was taken by 2 people while I was sitting because I was too slow to realize it was free). It was spongy and soggy inside, and the outside was hard and burnt... I believe it's supposed to be like caramelized sugar. Came for the matcha, stayed for the croissants! I looooved this matcha! The matcha itself was solid and the sweetness of the mango at the bottom really made it next level. I would absolutely come back for this matcha alone! Onto the croissants. First, they are HUGE! I couldn't even finish one in one sitting. We ordered the pistachio and strawberry ones. The are flakey and buttery and so yummy. I love the cream inside of them too! The strawberry one was definitely sweeter than the pistachio, so keep that in mind if you have a strong preference. Both were fabulous. The line was out the door when we got there, but we were committed. I wouldn't say it's the faster moving line, but it's not overly slow either. We went after 11am on the weekend, but I've seen no line outdoors earlier, so keep that in mind. read more

I am from out of town and needed a place to hold a few work meetings while in Chicago and found Soloway online. It is in a great location, but definitely not conducive to working because all of their tables include a sticker that says it is a screen free zone. I had never seen that in a coffee shop before, and did end up having to switch locations because I couldn't use my laptop to work. They did have a nice patio and it looked like a window to order on the outside which I thought was a great idea. The inside was very clean. I didn't love that half of the chairs were stools with no backs, it was a little awkward to sit like that so low down. I didn't get a chance to try the food, but I did have a delicious iced chai. I would say this is a great place for more of a grab and go sort of experience or for sitting on the patio if the weather is nice! read more

I've been eyeing Soloway Coffee for a while - I happened to be in the neighborhood and in need of an afternoon snack, so I popped in for a quick bite. There wasn't much left mid-afternoon, but I was lucky enough to snag their special pumpkin-shaped pumpkin bread. It was small, but adorable and delicious, and packed with extra goodies like pumpkin seeds for texture. Despite being made with care, I still felt like it was overpriced (hence 4 stars vs 5). They have a great patio, but it was full when I arrived late on a weekend afternoon. Tables were available inside, but the noise level was pretty high. Props here for the service, though. The friendly woman who took my order gave me very helpful recommendations as I was deciding what to order. I might be back, but the price point gives me a bit of pause in light of other high quality cafes and bakeries in the area. read more

It tasted sweet from the matcha milk but then you get a nice tartness from the passionfruit. I heard their croissants are really good but unfortunately they sold out early. We opted for their basque cheesecake and it was expensive ($9) for a tiny slice. It was yummy but you've probably had better basque cheesecake elsewhere.
