My first time here. I was recommended this place by some of the local residents. Got myself a Passion-Mango Matcha and a Walnut Fig Cake. So far so good. I was hoping to get an almond croissant and famous syrnyky but unfortunately these were sold out. Well, maybe next time. Nice service though and I appreciated the music being just ring it terms of not being annoyingly loud.
A small cafe in Lincoln Park. I went there recently after an interval workout along Lakefront Trail because I was curious about their Savory Oatmeal. Came in at ~8:35, waited for about 12min to order. There were some tomato chutney, parmesan and green onions in the Savory Oatmeal. I love the tomato chutney, which elevated the dish with a hint of sweet-sourness. The parmesan gave it some cheesy texture. It was also served with a soft boiled egg and bacon (opted out). I asked for a side of sourdough and it was good as well.
Cool little coffee shop in Lincoln park definitely worth trying! I came here with my child on a Friday morning around 10am, it was busy but there were still seats. I got a cold brew, the strawberry croissant, and I got my child an apple juice and a pecan chocolate chip cookie. The croissant was so good, beyond incredible, there was whipped cream, strawberry flavored, on the inside. It was so sweet, soft, and definitely a must try when here. The cookie was more of a scone in terms of consistency but it was still good. The cold brew was nothing special but it was still a solid cold brew choice.
This spot is known as one of the best matcha spots, so I had to try it for myself. The vibes were cool and there's a lot of seating, but they don't allow working on laptops, so not really a study spot. Service was normal, nothing standout. The matcha was a letdown for me. The mango passion flavor completely overpowered it, so I couldn't taste the matcha at all. It felt more like a juice than a matcha drink. The breakfast sando was just okay. I didn't love the tartar aioli chili sauce, but the crispy hashbrown inside was a nice touch. I like that they're a Ukrainian-founded coffee brand with a focus on quality beans and unique flavors, but based on this visit I'd probably try something else next time.
We were contemplating if we wanted to go all the way to Lincoln park for coffee and food from downtown, but we are glad that we did. This place is packed on weekends for sure, but they have ample of seating spaces and we were able to get a table fairly quickly. My friends and I ordered Cortado, mango passion match and Macchiato for drinks and we ordered shakshuka and avocado bread for food. Everything was absolutely amazing! I have been on this spree of finding best shakshukas in the city and Soloway definitely tops the list. It was very flavorful and the portion size was great for the price we paid. Our coffee orders were out pretty quickly but food order took a bit of time, but it was surely worth the wait. I will definitely come back to this place for amazing dining experience!
The hype about Soloway coffee is fully justified. The coffee and the food were really great. They have a lot of seating but this place is squally very just in the weekends so you might have to wait to get a spot to sit. The order lines can be long too. We got the mango passion fruit matcha, Cortado and a mocha. They had great sessional options on the menu too but we didn't try them. The coffee order was ready quickly but the food took around 15 mins. My friends got the shakshuka and the avocado toast. For the price, the portion size and the taste were impressive. We will definitely be back!
Soloway has been on my list of coffee shops to try for the longest time, and let me tell you - it lives up to the hype! Upon entering, my friends and I were welcomed to the sweet aroma of coffee. We went on a Sunday morning and the place was packed. The space itself is very clean, with a large amount of indoor and outdoor seating. The people at the counter were very friendly and helpful. My friends ordered the Passion- Mango matchas. They were very happy with the flavor of the drink and the large quantity a lot drink they got. The large at Soloway is definitely a lot! I ordered the Honey-Cake latte. This was absolutely delicious. The drink is inspired by the European dessert of the same name, topped with sweet foam, a touch of salt, and cookie crumble. What I was most excited about was the breakfast sando. It consisted of Soft potato bun, crispy hash brown, fluffy scrambled eggs with sweet corn, melted provolone, and tartar aioli chili sauce. Many say it is one of the best breakfast sandwiches in Chicago, and I would agree! The hash brown was nice and crisp, contrasting with the scrambled eggs. The corn was an unexpected but yummy touch, and the sauce brought all the flavors together. I am still thinking about it. All in all, Soloway Coffee is a must visit when you are in the city! I will be back soon.
Tried to go to Pop up bagels on Sunday morning and then we realized we didn't wanna wait in line for an hour! So here we are! There was still a line, but it wasn't too bad. We both got the breakfast sandwich and honestly??? It was so so good. I always want to try the good breakfast sandwich sandwiches in Chicago and then I never do so this was fun! It was $17 with adding avocado (Honestly, you could've skipped that) But the eggs are super unique because they have corn in them, which added such a lovely sweetness. There's no meat, but there is a really crispy hashbrown, and some good cheese and some sort of spicy spread. Honestly, it was great. I wanted to try the pastries, but they weren't sure with my not allergies so I skipped it. Definitely would come back again though! A bit expensive, but isn't everything???? They have a nice patio as well!
Tried the pistachio croissant and the pistachio cheesecake. Soooo yummy :) would recommend! Online it said the pistachio croissant was sold out but when I went in, they still had some so make sure to check!
LOVE THIS CAFE! It is very tiny and not a lot of seating. The matcha is my favorite in the city. And the pastries are DELICIOUS. You order at the counter and staff is very friendly. A must if you are in the area.
My friend and I stopped here while I was visiting her in Chicago, and I had the sudden urge to try matcha for the first time. I was not disappointed. I got the passion fruit mango matcha with coconut milk as recommended by the person taking my order, and it was absolute perfection. I also got a strawberry croissant not realizing that it would have a creamy strawberry filling, and wow... I'm a croissant girlie, and this was easily a top 5 for me. The coffee shop itself is spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the service was quick. Can't wait to come back!
Brief review- the environment at Soloway is more of a cafe (with food) than a specialty coffee roaster. The food looks fantastic and I'm glad people are enjoying the space but I'd say this isn't the destination if you're wanting a singular excellent cup of coffee. I got the Ethiopia Kochore drip which was fantastic but the pour over menu is limited despite Soloway being a roaster. I assume this is just the market demand of the area. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, the square footage is used very efficiently. Very clean bathroom. Cashier and baristas are efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly.
I so wanted to buy into the hype but our experience fell short. Ordered a couple of large lattes and was disappointed by the small size (in comparison to other coffee shops) coupled with no vanilla flavor option. With no flavor option, I was expecting exceptional coffee, but it was just meh. However, the oversized pistachio croissant was delicious.
Dream about the croissants here. My fav is the almond or pistachio. Latte is decent here too. Def the food is best for me. Lines can get super long on the weekends so keep that in mind. Very little seating indoors and tables are electronic / laptop free. read more
I got sweet cream cold brew and a strawberry croissant. Cold Brew was on the acidic side, not my preference, but not bad with the vanilla cream. I have a sweet tooth so I felt the croissants were indulgent and excellent. Perfectly layered, crispy, sweet, and creamy. No issues with service. Pretty pricey but this is a great, occasional spot to hit by the Lincoln park zoo! There's a few small tables so it's may be grab and go for most customers. read more
Soloway is a quick walk from Theatre on the Lake which is where I was working out in the morning. They have some limited but decent options for coffee. We really wanted to try the pistachio croissant because I had heard that it was really good, but they only serve that post 8:45am or so, and hence we couldn't try them!! We tried the pistachio macaroon and that was yum!! Although there was a long line to get coffee, the service was quick! read more
I tried the pomegranate matcha with coconut milk. I wasn't sure how it was going to be but I actually ended up liking it! They have a delectable looking selection of pastries. We only tried the Basque cheesecake because we were still full from lunch. The cheesecake was so light and tasty. My husband also enjoyed his hazelnut spice latte. There isn't much seating room inside so we had to take it to go. I will have to go back to try a gigantic macaron! read more
I chose this place because it was very close to my spa appointment and I have some time to spare before my spa day. Right when I walked in, you could smell the amazing aromas of the coffee and espresso in here. I ordered a flavored latte and an amazing pastry that I still dream about to this day. The coffee was delicious and the cinnamon sugar croissant was delectable. Great coffee spot! read more

The croissant is fluffy and soft with a light sweetness that keeps it very balanced. The oat latte is delicious, and their canelé is a favorite of mine. I have probably picked up ten by now because I keep coming back for it! read more
Updating my review - I came back and got the pomegranate matcha and pistachio croissant and both were lifechanging. The lemon croissant was too much but the pistachio was perfectly balanced. The space is still quite tight and busy, definitely not a spot to work at all, but if you can get a table it's quite cozy. The quality of their drinks is worth it! I'll be back. read more
We came to this cafe after looking up cafes with matcha near us. The ambiance of the cafe is great - I really liked the openness of the sitting area and it seemed like a good place to do light work and/or people watching. However, my low review is due largely to the matcha itself. Both me and my friends got matcha lattes and we were super disappointed. It was very imbalanced in terms of milk to matcha ratio - I could barely taste any matcha at all! I honestly felt like I was just drinking straight up milk with green food coloring. I usually make my own matcha lattes and drinks at home so I'm familiar with how matcha is supposed to taste, and this was not it. The matcha latte with fruit (mango or passion fruit?) probably would taste better simply because of the fruit puree. I would not recommend this cafe for a simple matcha latte - but if you get sometime else on the menu or just want to come for the nice vibes, you might be better off. read more
This place is in east Lincoln park in Chicago but it has a NYC vibe to it . Solid breakfast menu. My avocado toast was a little bit on the bland side and a little light on the avocado part but the side of burrata it came with made it better . They also have shakshuka on the menu which I spied at my neighbor's table and I'm trying it next time. My latte was very good. The Pastries are beautiful looking ( be warned you'll pay almost 8$ for a single croissant) Overall, crowded ( but line moved fairly quickly ) and pricy with solid breakfast options . If you aren't on a budget, don't mind long lines, aren't looking for a place to relax/ do work and are ok eating amongst with a bunch of wealthy, trendy 20/30 something's you should try it . I'll likely be back - gotta try that shakshuka next time read more
A cafe and roaster that serves various kinds of beautiful and delicious pastries and simple and fresh breakfast sandwiches and salads. One shiny La Marzocco machine, two professional roaster machines, and bags of beans sourced from different countries / areas for purchase. I particularly like their simple yet focused coffee and tea menu. The cafe was so busy and packed around 10am this Sunday! The host was very friendly and helpful though which made you feel better after a long wait in line. Since he was the single person who takes orders and takes care of grabbing pastries from the case, he was very busy. You basically would not wait too long after that pay step. Pastries get sold out fast and they will refill as they make at the back. Latte was smooth and rich - nothing super special but we really had nothing to complain about. The espresso tonic with Ethiopian espresso was very refreshing and tasted strong. Hubby thought his ham sandwich was not big for the price that we paid for but tasted good. My pistachio cheesecake and hummus with toasted bread were really delicious and I highly recommend them. I also used the spring blend beans for espresso at home. The quality was high and I was pleased with the fruity notes, medium body and strong wine-like aroma that I got. read more
My friends and I visited here on Sunday and it was packed! The cafe itself is pretty small so we had to snatch a table as soon as there's one available. They have only a decent menu election for coffee and food. We tried the latte which was decent, espresso tonic which is more on the sour side but it wasn't too bad, and a sweet cold brew. For food we tried the croissants which had cream filling and they were delicious! My favorite was the Turkey sandwich on brioche, perfect balance of flavor and the kale salad was just perfect. They have many other selections of pastries like cakes and canele. I wish I had the appetite to try everything! Definitely will return for another visit so I can try other items. read more

I've never been disappointed with a visit to Soloway! On the pricier side and doesn't have a lot of seating (at least in the winter when the patio is closed), but I'll keep going back for more read more

Got the passion mango matcha and it was awful. Tasted like a mango smoothie, literally tasted like juice it up or jamba juice. zero matcha flavor at all. If you can't make good matcha, why even have it on the menu? Coffee shops really need to stop serving it if they don't know what they're doing. The worker who took my order was extremely rude, clearly didn't want to be there, and made my drink in about 2 seconds. Free Wi-Fi and water don't make up for bad drinks and bad service. This place should be at 3 stars, not 4 read more
Have been here a few times now since I live relatively close by. The coffee is decent and so is the food. The one thing is that it's really really expensive. Spending almost $30 for chai tea and a Turkey sandwich is a bit steep. I think I'll come here as a treat for myself every so often - and just stick to a beverage. Baristas are very nice. And great that it is Ukrainian owned and run. Seating is VERY limited. read more
If you are near a Soloway Coffee shop, go to it. We sat outside and shared a huge table with locals. I love community tables because we got to listen in on conversations. :) However, we had plenty of privacy as well and could have sat at a two seater, away from the long table. You can also sit inside. The coffee was delcious and the food was really good. I had the avocado toast and got so much more than expected. (It came with an egg and side salad. Yum!) We also tried a croissant. MMMMM We enjoyed the experience and recommend it to friends visiting Chicago. read more

My husband, baby, and I came here for the first time and had a great experience! We came around 8:30 AM so there was a short line. We waited about 5 minutes for our drinks and 10 minutes for our food. Our favorites were the breakfast sando and pistachio croissant. The breakfast sando had a hashbrown which was crispy on the outside and there was also sweet corn in the egg which I thought was interesting. My husband got the shakshuka which was good, but just a note that it is Arabic shakshuka and not Turkish. There was a large patio which was perfect for our baby to sit in his stroller and for other patrons who brought their dogs! I would recommend coming earlier in the morning because as we left, the patio was filled and the line was longer inside. read more

I came here after seeing their passion fruit matcha on tik tok. And it did not disappoint. So yummy and refreshing and I would have it again if I'm in the area. I did not try any of the food but the cafe was clean and aesthetically pleasing. I did find the prices to be a bit high (18 dollars for two drinks) but it's always fun to try new things- so if you're around and don't mind paying a bit extra it's definitely a place to check out. read more

A cute little coffee joint but massively overhyped on Instagram. The croissant had great pistachio flavor but I found the white chocolate on top to be too sweet and the cream filling too heavy. The sweet brew (aka their sweet cream cold brew) was just ok. It's a small place and although they have free wifi, most of their tables are no screen allowed so don't expect to work from here. read more

I came with a friend on a Sunday and left fairly unimpressed. The staff just seemed annoyed with us. Granted, it was a busy Sunday, so I get it. My friend has food allergies, and they weren't sure about various pastries touching each other, so that was a bother because she couldn't eat anything. The egg dish I got was subpar, to be honest. The place was crammed, so we lasted maybe 5 minutes after getting our stuff. Coffee was solid, but that's not enough reason for me to go back. read more

The pictures are misleading. Sure it's the actual product but the taste or concept is where they fail. The avocado toast was virtually tasteless. At $17 it's basically an omelet atop toast with some vegetables that are the only complimentary part of the dish which still remains a snoozer. The turkey sandwich has an extremely tasty bread but also fell flat. Aside from the buttery aspect of the bread this too is tasteless. Pistachio cheesecake was yet another sozzer. Only reason they received 3 stars from is because the strawberry croissant was actually pretty damn good but isn't that like cheating because it's from Dan the baker. I spent $50 on avocado toast, a turkey sando & two pastries. read more

I tried with my boyfriend for the first time this morning. We had cold brew and a pistachio croissant and everything was fabulous including the service. The vibe is super clean and modern as you can see from the pics. I would highly recommend this spot for coffee + bakery. read more
A very cute coffee shop, I do love the furniture and vibes! Staff was nice. My matcha latte was $8 and that seems a little crazy. It was probably my least favorite matcha in the city, very grainy, and more milky, definitely could have used some more matcha. read more

I stopped by here for a quick coffee and we tried a couple different pastry items. We tried a macaron and a cinnamon knot. The macaron wasn't great in my opinion but the cinnamon knot had a surprising orange cream cheese filling. The texture was flaky and good. I got a cold brew which was strong and smooth. Service was quick and the place itself was very cute. read more
This is one of the best coffee shops I've ever been to. I got a pistachio croissant, strawberry croissant, and gorgonzola macaroon. Best croissants I've ever had, super fluffy and the filling was incredible and not too sweet. The macaroon was big, perfectly made, and had an interesting flavor. I love that they're screen free and the wait staff was very helpful. read more
