I really like Daeji Dough! It's a very cute bakery with a nice ambiance. A bit difficult to find seats but if you do then it's a win. The service is generally attentive and friendly. Personally, I liked everything except the famous Teokpokki croissant. As a Korean person, I thought hr teokpokki despite the vibrant color was relatively bland and tasted like a pure gochujang. It seemed more like a gimmick/ something to create buzz. However I loved everything else I've tried since. My personal favorite is the mushroom focaccia. May take some trial and error but once you try some good options you'd know it's a keeper
We stopped by on a Friday morning and surprisingly it wasn't too busy! I ordered a regular matcha latte with oat milk and we ordered a few fun pastries (tteokbokki croissant & yakult danish). The croissant was good! I wished the danish had more filling and more of a yakult flavor but it was still good! My matcha latte was okay, though I typically like my matcha to be on the stronger side! All in all, Daeji is a super cute place and they have some fun pastries!
The pastries were absolutely delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. Even with a line, the service was efficient and it moved surprisingly fast, so we didn't have to wait long at all. Our favorites were the kimchi scone and tteokbokki croissant, I'd definitely come back to try more of their pastries!
Overall a good take-out experience at Daeji Dough Company. Went to the store around 9am, most tables were already taken but just one person in front of me in line so there was no waiting at all. The staff was friendly. I ended up picking the tteokbokki croissant, heirloom tomatoes croissant, kimchi biscuit, yakult danish and matcha latte. All patries had beautiful layers/lamination. The savory ones were my favorites, flavorful and interesting combo (especially in the case of the tteokbokki, very surprised how well the rice cake kept their chewiness!). The kimchi biscuit kind of reminds me of the biscuits from Red Lobster , good flavor, moist on the inside the nice parts of crispy on the outside. The yakult danish was probably the low-light out of the bunch, cannot taste the yakult and flavor is pretty average. Things are a bit pricey, the items I got were ranging $7-7.50 each. I would go back to try more savory pastries and bake goods though.
The pastries were yummy! The tekkboki croissant was super unique and had a good little spice level to it. The smoked brisket roll was a perfect savory pastry. The coconut sesame croissant had a great not too sweet flavor! We also opted to get a black sesame matcha and latte. The black sesame wasn't super strong - I personally would have loved a stronger flavor. The latte was good but the matcha wasn't my favorite. I think the matcha was just lacking some balance. I want to come back on the weekend to try the okonomiyaki croissant. I believe this is only available on the weekends!
I got the vegan bulgogi mushroom focaccia and daeji chocolate chip cookie. The focaccia was delicious - so dense, fluffy, and flavorful. The cookie was really nice too - dense and just the right amount of firm on the outside. I went the first Monday they opened and wanted to try their tteokbokki croissant but they were sold out that day. I'm very satisfied with what I ordered though. It's a good space to do work/study. They don't take cash though. The water cups could have also been a little more clean.
I love this place! Just tried the chilli crisp foccasia and OMG literally one of the best things I have tasted. It was made perfectly and the egg in the middle was heavenly. I also tried the matcha latte, it was excellent! Finally, the chocolate chip cookies-- BEST chocolate chip cookies I have ever had. Can't wait to come back to try more goods.
Service was amazing (9/10). The server working there was so kind and welcoming. The cafe is on the smaller side, but there are about 7 tables, free Wi-Fi, water, and lots of natural sunlight, making it a decent spot to study or work (7/10). We got there around 1 PM even though they open at 8AM, and sadly almost all of the pastries were already sold out except for 2. I'll definitely have to come back earlier next time. The TenGoku x Daeji Salt Bread (6.5/10) was good, but it tasted more like a regular soft bread with cream inside. I was expecting a crispier shell. The Strawberries & Cream Matcha-spanner (7/10) had a nicely whisked, foamy matcha, but once everything was mixed together, the strawberry flavor overpowered the matcha. The Banana Cream Pie Einspanner (6/10) had delicious cream, but the espresso itself was a little too bitter and slightly sour for my taste. I wasn't blown away by what I tried, but since they're known for their pastries, I'll definitely be back to try the items that sold out before I got there.
Stopped by early to pick up some pastries for Mother's Day after seeing this spot all over TikTok. The tteokbokki croissant is definitely the star item and the one I kept seeing online, so I had to try it. The croissant itself was flaky, the rice cake had a really good chewy texture, and the spice level was perfect. I also got the Japanese curry pastry which I ended up really liking too. The curry flavor was more subtle but still flavorful and comforting. The salt bread was the one item that disappointed me a bit. I had salt bread for the first time in Korea and loved how buttery, crispy, and airy it was while still being light. The version here was much denser and way saltier compared to the more subtle salt flavor I'm used to. I also ordered the matcha with black sesame syrup. Unfortunately the black sesame completely overpowered the drink and I could barely taste the matcha. Overall, I still enjoyed trying their pastries and can see why they've been getting attention online, especially for the tteokbokki croissant.
YUMMM everything was sooo delicious. The employees were also very friendly. We ordered the kimchi biscuit, yakult danish with season fruit, blueberry yuzu muffin, and curry twist. My favorite was the kimchi biscuit!! I also got an iced latte with black sesame. There's a few seats inside to eat on a plate or you can get a box to-go. I will definitely be back!
YUMM! I went right when they opened (two days in a row) to get the freshest pastries and they were so good. It was very early so there was no line and service was very quick. I already want to go back to try some more! This cafe is super cute, and if they have wifi, it could be a cute place to get some work done. I tried two of the savory pastries and both were so good! They were very light and flaky. I loved the flavor in both. The tteokbokki was soft and chewy, and the mushrooms in the focaccia were so good. Definitely a spot to check out! The next day I came back and got a sweet pastry - the coconut cream and the curry. I think the curry was surprisingly my favorite out of all because the flavor was so good and it was very flaky and chewy. The coconut cream was also delicious!
I've been dying to come here so I had a really high expectations. I tried the tteokbokki croissant and the okonomiyaki croissant. I will say I like the tteokbokki. It was the perfect level of spice and the tteok added so much texture with the chewiness. For the okonomiyaki croissant, I think it lacked in the filling. Most of the time I only had the croissant part and was really hoping for more of the filling. I also tried their mint Matcha Cloud, and I really enjoy the coconut foam top. It was refreshing and honestly different to most cold foams that I've tried. I will say the sparkling water that they had felt and tasted a little bit different but I do think that I would get the drink again! It's not that Daeji didn't meet my expectations, I think they were just set really high before coming in, and then the prices were also really high like I think the tteokbokki croissant $7.50..... so I think there was a combination of factors that set thoughts/review a little bit lower.
Daeji is such a unique and welcome addition to the neighborhood! With inventive Korean-inspired pastries and a variety of drink options, you'll definitely want to pay a visit. Unsurprisingly, this place is pretty popular, so expect lines in the morning! I went around 1:30pm on a Saturday and most of the pastries were sold out. I did get to try the tteokbokki and coconut cream sesame croissants and both were very unique. I've not had anything like the first one before- while an interesting concept, I'm not sure the tteokbokki added much and personally wasn't sold on the seaweed and buttery dough combination. The coconut sesame croissant, however, was out of this world. The cream was perfectly light, and the slightly salty, sweet, and nutty sesame filling was a show stopper. Would stop by for this alone. I will absolutely be back to try more of the menu and definitely recommend checking this spot out!
Reviews are largely positive. People praise the inventive pastries, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and popular matcha drinks.

Daeji is an absolute gem! My friends took us here as they mentioned it is one of their favorite bakeries. We ordered way more than we probably should have, but zero regrets! We ordered the yakult danish, heirloom tomato croissant, vegan bulgogi focaccia, salt bread, smoked brisket roll, and tteokbokki croissant. Every single pastry was delicious, unique, and clearly made with care. The Yakult danish and smoked brisket roll were standouts for me as they had creative flavor combos. The vegan bulgogi focaccia was wonderfully fluffy with great seasoning, and the salt bread might be my favorite thing I ate all week: pillowy soft with the perfect balance of salt and butter. We each got our own coffee, and mine was a plain drip that was smooth and well-balanced which paired perfectly with the pastries rather than competing with them. Beyond the food, the whole experience was lovely. The space is small but so aesthetically pleasing and calming, and the merch is unbelievably cute. Staff were friendly and gave great recommendations when we couldn't decide what to order. read more
Yummmm!! I will be returning cause the pastries here were so good! This bakery serves up some delicious Korean-inspired pastries. I got a bunch to try. The banana cream einspanner was delicious as well! I had to google what an einspanner was. The flavor of the banana cream on top is top tier! Now for the pastries: Kimchi biscuit: Great savory biscuit! Super flavorful and best eaten warm. Chili crisp focaccia: Also another great savory option!!! There is a boiled egg inside which is a nice surprise. Tteokbokki croissant: One of my favs! The lamination is insane - you can really taste the layers. The texture of the tteokbokki was nice and soft which pairs well with the flaky croissant. Loved this unique pastry! Miso cornbread cookie: Another great option! If you like chewy thin cookies this is for you. Yakult peach danish: I'm obsessed with yakult so I knew I was ganna like this pastry. The peach pairs perfectly with the flavor. read more

Fun asian inspired menu with unique options that you won't get anywhere else. A must try with things like smoked brisket rolls, dill pickle focaccia, mushroom and bulgolgi focaccia, tteokbokki croissant and more. Food/Drink Coconut Sesame Croissant - amazing...super flaky croissant. So much flavor and great taste, even before you get to the sesame filling and delicious coconut whipped cream on top. 5 stars for this baked good. Seasonal drink - mary berry jaffa cake, loved it! Has a bit of orange flavoring to it. Ambiance There are 5 tables of 2 on each side of the cafe. The tables are pretty close together, so it gives it a cozy feel. We took out since all the tables were taken and they give you a cute box to put your pastries in. read more

A cute Korean matcha and pastry shop! You have to go early or they do run out of most of the pastries, but the mushroom focaccia we tried was pretty good and flavorful. The mint matcha was subtle but good! Would definitely go back to try more pastries. read more
Super popular spot with cute ambiance, several tables and super friendly service. I'm not sure I tasted any of the nuanced flavors in the honey bee latte, but it was still very good, as was the tteokbokki croissant. Will definitely come back to try their other menu items! read more
Super excited to have a Korean bakery with unique pastry flavors in the area. A bit pricey but the pastries are all high quality and filling. Must tries are the coconut croissant, the flavors are all perfectly balanced and I loved the cream on top. Things that fell flat for me were the MSG cake and the rice cake croissant. The rice cake added a unique texture to the croissant but I didn't think the flavors stood out that much. The croissant itself had little green flecks inside that tasted like seaweed which was unique. The MSG cake was a little dry to me. I prefer cakes with whipped cream frosting and this one was a bit too thick and buttery for my taste. Overall cake flavor tasted like a nutty roasted rice powder flavor. Service was friendly and efficient. They had one person taking orders and processing payment, but the line moved fast. I went on a Saturday around 11 am and by then they had already sold out of quite a few menu items. They didn't have any focaccia by then. Bakery had a few seating options and was super packed. You'd have to wait 10-15 minutes for a table to clear up. Not really a spot to study or get work done. There's a lot of chatter happening around in the background. Definitely give them a try! read more
I'm not sure if I just caught this place on a bad day (an excessively snow Sunday), but I was not super impressed. We got the Tteokbokki Croissant and Brisket Roll - the fillings on both were really good but we found the croissant / dough to be lacking and a bit dry, but both the drinks (Jack's Plum Espresso Tonic and Latte) were tasty. Service & ambiance here are great - staff is very nice & friendly, and it doesn't feel super crowded for a smaller space. I know this place is newer so excited to see how it continues to grow :) read more
3.5/5 - Daeji Dough has some hits and misses. The tteokbokki was really good, and I enjoyed the glaze on the focaccia--though maybe I'm just not a focaccia bread kind of person. The coconut sesame croissant was tasty, but the top cream was very buttery. On the downside, the matcha black sesame didn't work for me at all. It's nice that they've gone from a farmer's market setup to a storefront, and it's definitely best to visit on weekdays when it's less busy. Overall, a solid spot if you stick to the right items, though some flavors are hit or miss depending on your taste. read more

Very spacious bakery The Asian fusion pastries sound so good, but execution fell flat for me. The pastries were all really oily. Salt bread - bottom crisp, buttery interior, wished it was a bit more salted Okonomoyaki croissant - didn't love the filling flavor it was like a cabbage and meat combo. The croissant itself was really flaky and crispy tho and the topping was good. Miso cornbread cookie - way too savory and tasted like ginger. Did not love this at all corn sweetness did not come out as much as I wanted, the miso was overpowering Bulgogi mushroom focaccia - more like soy sauce flavor than bulgogi. Very soft texture really liked the chew read more
Tteokbokki croissant exceeded my expectations! It was flaky and the perfect amount of chewy, just wish it was warmed up especially since we ate in. :/ Honey miso cornbread cookie was good but a bit too sweet with all the frosting. Yuzu blueberry focaccia was good but a lil dry, i liked that the yuzu flavor was strong since I haven't found a place in Chicago with strong yuzu flavor in food or beverage yet, but the dryness was a bit offputting. Drinks were not very good...matcha tasted just like milk and so did the chai. read more
came like 10 minutes after opening, currently in their soft opening, & pastry menu changes! Super nice service & ample seating - pastries were all $5-9? I think overall pastries were a bit underwhelming for me. I'd come back for 1/5 pastries & I didn't care too much for my drink. Their croissant bases were perfect but overall focaccias were a bit tough & spongy. Worth a try & would come back for newer menu items! 1) Tteottbokki Croissant - 5/5: they need to sell the tteottbokki by itself lol. The sauce is great & the rice cakes r perfectly chewy - paired with the flakiness of the croissant def have to eat it shortly after purchasing though 2) Mushroom & Bulgogi Foccacia - 3.5/5: meh base, but I did like the mushrooms a lot. Slightly sweet, not a lot of bulgogi? 3) Sesame Coconut Croissant- 3.5/5: i just don't like coconut that much but a great croissant base + a light cream that's not too sweet 4) Blueberry Foccacia - 3/5: loved the brightness of the yuzu but it was a bit too sweet, blueberry was a bit too tart for me 5) Brisket Roll - 2/5: the filling looked ample enough but it tasted a lot like just the raspberry jam. 6) Matcha Black Sesame: it just tasted like black sesame milk lol read more
We stepped in during the soft launch. There was a decent crowd sitting, chatting, while enjoying morning drinks and pastries. The presentation was nice. The cute rubber stamp-like logo on the pastry boxes is smart:) There were just a few selections left. But we got three pastries and some drinks. All good and tasty. Next time we'll come earlier:) It's important to support our local small business establishments:) read more
Very friendly Korean bakery -- I'd say it's a solid 4.5-star spot for the neighborhood. The selection isn't huge, but everything looks thoughtfully made and interesting. I came for the Tteokbokki croissant, which ended up being a bit disappointing. The croissant dough itself was super flaky and delicious, but it didn't quite mesh with the Tteokbokki, which also turned a bit salty once it cooled. It felt like two good things that didn't quite work together. The brisket roll and coconut cream pastry were both standouts, especially the brisket roll -- so good! The pastry dough was fantastic, and the juicy, flavorful meat filling took it to another level. The mushroom bulgogi focaccia was okay if you're into focaccia and want something different. We liked the mushrooms themselves, but couldn't really find the "bulgogi" part. For drinks, we tried Kiki's Matcha Brew with sesame, Ginchilla Espresso Tonic, and Caroline's Pie Spice Latte (hot). The matcha was a pleasant surprise -- the sesame flavor really came through, which I loved. The pie spice latte was also such a cozy treat on a cold, rainy Sunday morning. The place wasn't too busy yet, and there was plenty of street parking. read more

Stopped by for a coffee and some pastries while in Southport. It's a great addition the neighborhood and has an interesting line up. We tried: - Black Sesame Matcha Latte - Pie Spiced Latte - Tteokbokki Croissant - Smoked Brisket Roll - Coconut Sesame Croissant I really enjoyed the coffee and the pie spiced latte is probably the best fall flavor coffee I've had. I wished they warmed all of the pastries up. We were able to get a table and eat there, so the cold savory pastries were just ok. The Tteokbokki Croissant was interesting, not my favorite. The Smoked Brisket Roll was flavorful but would have been better warm. I really liked the Coconut Sesame Croissant. I'll be back next time im in the neighborhood. read more

i was very excited when i heard about this spot opening up as a korean food lover and an owner of the cutest dog in the world named Daeji. this place has crazy lines on sunday during late morning, which makes sense, because it's such a unique concept and SO cute. their pastries are creative and delicious. my favorite is the bulgogi mushroom focaccia but all of them are super yummy. they also have super cute merch, which a lot of people were purchasing. super excited to be moving to lakeview in the summer, and this spot is undoubtedly the reason why! read more
Daeji is in a perfect little spot on the corner of Southport and Belmont! I loved the vibes - quiet, cozy, welcoming. I've heard great things about their pastries, so I had to try the popular coconut sesame croissant. Can't wait to visit on the weekend and try their miso cornbread cookie - YUM! read more
About a 1-1.5: UGH, I hate to do this to you, Daeji Dough, but you were such a disappointment... I was super excited to check this place out, as I fell in love their cute logos/drawings, and their menu seemed super interesting - they offer various baked goods and beverages that has a Korean twist to them. We ordered: +the Tteokbokki Croissant - a seaweed croissant topped with ricke cakes and tteokbokki sauce; the pastry itself was cold - no one wants to eat cold tteokbokki! The sauce also had a very 'fishy' taste and odor to it, which was extremely off-putting; the pastry itself was cold, hard, and not fresh at all +Smoked Brisket Roll - puff pastry pocket filled with Green Street Smoked Meats brisket and the house's jalapeno raspberry gochu-jam; the pastry pocket was cold and super thick; the filling was overly sweet, and just didn't complement the dried-out shredded beef inside +the Blueberry Yuja Focaccia - focaccia filled with blueberries and topped with yuja glaze; the focaccia was not soft and fluffy, and it did not have the 'slight crisp' that you're used for focaccias; the glaze was great, but a bit too overpowering +the Honey Miso Cornbread Cookie - a GF cornbread cookie that has a miso and stick-sweet honey blend, topped with a miso ginger buttercream; this was the preferred item out of the set; the corn bread was a bit 'starchy' and super dense; the buttercream was pretty good +a Caroline's Pie Spice Latte - this was asked to be extra hot, but came out lukewarm +and, a regular Latte with almond milk While the pastries seemed somewhat visually appealing, they were just all cold, not fresh, and dried out - not sure if they just reuse and resell items that are 1-2+ days old, because the staff in the kitchen seemed busy - what exactly were they producing back there? It definitely wasn't anything to replenish or replace the items behind the case. The space is small with a handful of seating, but we were lucky to come at a perfect time when some parties were leaving. Note that this isn't a space to get work done or study; all the outlets are blocked, which the intention is for you to finish up your item(s) and drink(s) and move on. There were parties, however, who just hogged the seats for a while, and the staff didn't enforce anything. Such a huge letdown; totally fell for the hype! No dice, Daeji Dough. Street parking can be found in the area. +old, dried-out, stale pastries +lukewarm lattes +street parking available read more

Beautiful Korean fusion pastries with unique flavors, and well prepared coffee and matcha drinks. After seeing a lot of the online reviews, we went here a few months ago but arrived after they ran out of pastries so this weekend made the trek back up and are happy we did! Got here around 10:45am and while it was crowded, they had plenty of pastries left. We shared the Kiki's Magic Matcha Brew which is a tasty mix of fresh matcha with a nutty black sesame syrup that was flavorful and just the right amount but not overly sweet. For pastries, we shared a box of five: - tteokbokki croissant: seems to be one of the most popular items, a perfectly flaky rectangle croissant with tteokbokki in the middle which were soft and well cooked, but the most important part is the sweet savory slightly spicy sauce - miso cornbread cookie (bottom right): surprisingly savory with a punch of miso flavor, I could see how some people might not like it but I loved the strong umami mixed with the sweet and salty components - coconut sesame croissant (top right): a flaky croissant filled with a sweet coconut and sesame paste mixture which was delicious but unfortunately stuck in one end of the pastry, topped with a surprisingly light and refreshing whipped coconut cream - mushroom bulgogi focaccia (top left): we were initially a little disappointed the mushrooms were only in the middle and one edge of the bread, but the sweet umami soy and scallion flavors really infused into the rest of the bread - smoked brisket roll: filled with tasty smoked brisket and a unique sweet-savory raspberry gochujang jam, the flavors worked well but I'd recommend toasting or warming it a bit if you can so the dry smoked beef mixed with the jam Daeji is a nice addition to the busy Chicago pastry scene with beautifully executed pastries and unique flavors that are definitely worth a try! read more
The kimchi focaccia was the star of the show for sure. It had a great savory and creamy bite with the kimchi + kewpie combo and the bread was really fluffy and light. I thought the sesame croissant was a bit too salty for my taste. The miso cookie was ok. I'd come back for the focaccia. Though the place was crowded, the staff do a great job getting you in and out for pastry pickup read more
On the most freezing day in Chicago, this place was packed! And I can see why. Daeji Dough Co. is serving super fun and unique French style pastries with Korean flavors. Sad they were sold out of the tteokbokki croissant, but I guess I'll just have to come back :) the drinks sounded good too so I'll try those next time. I'd recommend the coconut sesame croissant and the MSG cake. Both were unique and had me wanting more. The miso cornbread cookie is also worth trying if you like those flavors. It leaned slightly dry and was quite savory and salty, which I enjoyed. Cute and chill bakery on the corner of Southport with room to enjoy treats there! read more

I'm so happy i stopped in this morning, what a lovely Korean bakery this is!!! The gal who helped us was so sweet, friendly, and helpful. The interior is super cute, I love their logo, the colorway, everything in here has been thought thru thoroughly. The pastries are excellent. The tteokbokki croissant is so dang good, I wish I could have just a whole bowl of that tteokbokki lol the miso honey cookie is such a delightful combo of sweet and savory. The smoked brisket roll is actually sweet and savory too! The drinks are also very good. I had a hot matcha w their vanilla syrup they make in house. The Junie's Lefse latte is also very good!
