This is a great little bakery and cafe. We tried their bagels (soft, fluffy and full of buttery flavor) and a number of pastries that were super fresh and delicious. Hats off to the service at Sweet Rabbit. The team made some great recommendations and were very nice on offering alternatives for items that they had sold out of. Overall a nice, small bakery with delicious treats! I love pastries and sweets but tend to like less sweet things, so please keep that in mind for the remainder of my review. Ube pop tart - the pastry puff itself was so flaky and had so many layers, it was the most enjoyable pop tart I've ever had! The ube filling was well made too, but I thought the frosting on top made the overall pastry too sweet. I hear they will be changing flavors every month for their pop tart, so I'm excited to try other flavors in the future! cheddar chive scone - I'm a sucker for savory scones and this did not disappoint. Loved the texture and the flavor overall. Would get this again! buckwheat kouign amann with black sesame filling - so delicious! the black sesame flavor was strong, the roasted flavor came through perfectly, and not too sweet. ham and cheese croissant - pretty standard and yum! chocolate croissant - the chocolate inside the croissant was perfection! Croissant was flaky and delicious! chocolate chip cookie - crispy and crumbly, lots of chocolate inside. Easily one of my favorite chocolate chip cookies! ube crinkle cookie - this was amazing! Loved the cookie and the ube flavor. ginger tile cookie with yuzu glaze - I love ginger-flavored cookies and this didn't disappoint. I don't think the yuzu flavor came through though and the glaze made it a lot sweeter than I'd like. shortbread cookie - with rose glaze, rose petals, and pistachios - loved the shortbread itself and the glaze was on the sweeter end. Sweet Rabbit was the next stop on my Sunday new pastry spot to check out. Couple of seats inside but more of a grab and go spot. Mike at the reg was the man and full of knowledge with each and every breakfast item! He was so helpful in deciding what to try. Ultimately ended up trying the breakfast sandwich, chocolate chip cookie, carrot cake, and monkey bread. The breakfast sando had a pimento cheese and the bun was very light and airy. Each bite was full of umami! The cookie was soft and chewy with a nice crispy outer. The monkey bread was so soft and easy to pull apart. Great cinnamon and brown sugar flavor with every bite. The carrot cake was unreal. The frosting was so fluffy and the cake was so light! The macarons were also a great topper. So happy to find Sweet Rabbit! read more

I love supporting local bakeries that have a wide variety of unique flavor combinations and pastries you can't find at other places. Their seasonal items were super special and different but each could be improved in their own way. Ube whoopie pie has a very overpowering and strong cream cheese frosting filling. The matcha pound cake was a tad on the drier side and it was hard to taste the matcha flavor even though it had the matcha color. The morning cardio sounded like a good idea but the cardamom flavor never hit and just tasted like a sugared croissant. With that being said, all the pastries were nice and flakey and the cookies were soft and chewy. The buckwheat black sesame pastry! It tasted exactly as I was expecting and felt the most unique. A solid go-to for pastries. I especially love the black sesame kouign amann and the cheddar chive scone, both are consistently delicious. Prices are very reasonable, and the quality has been reliable every time I've visited. My only critique is the service. The cashiers tend to be a bit short and not very warm, which can take away from the experience. That said, the pastries keep me coming back. read more

I decided to try the: - Banana Muffin - Matcha Strawberry Cookie - Hong Kong Milk Tea-ramisu Cruffin - Cold Brew The cold brew was pretty standard, nothing to write home about but got the job done. The banana muffin was very moist, but pretty one note. Now the Matcha Strawberry Cookie and Hong Kong Milk Tea-ramisu Cruffin stole the show. The strawberry really came through and the cookie itself was soft. The milk tea-ramisu cream was delightful in the cruffin. I'd recommend trying both of those. The interior was clean, but only two small tables with the rest being long high-tops against each wall. Enough for stopping in to have a pastry but not really the place to hang out or work from for an extended period of time. read more

I really love this neighborhood bakery. Everything is always fresh and I love the selection of pastries and baked goods. I originally came here to meet a friend for a light breakfast on my birthday and it just so happened it was the lunar new year. I was impressed with the salted duck egg cookie - never had anything like it before but as a fan of the salted duck egg, it was so great! I was so happy that on my second visit not too long ago, they had the black sesame Kouign Aman available! It was amazing!!!!!! I should have gotten a dozen of them! lol The service is fast and the atmosphere is very chill. A small little bakery in Roscoe Village that packs a big punch. Whenever I'm in Roscoe Village I make a point to stop at Sweet Rabbit. The pastries and breads wow me every single time. I bought a loaf of their Japanese milk bread once, and it was so soft and sweet. Their carrot cake is perfectly balanced (sweet cut by a slightly savory cream cheese frosting) and beautifully presented. I haven't gotten a chance to try the raved-about sourdough loaves and the buckwheat sesame kouign amann, but they're on my list. Recently, I tried one of their pre made sandwiches for the first time. I got the ham, brie, arugula and jam one on a baguette. Holy moly it was SO good! We're talkin' European quality baguette sandwich! The ham was tender and textured, and the jam complimented it nicely. Not to mention the bread had the perfect crunch and chewiness. Obsessed. Will be baaaaack!! read more

Really cute coffee shop in Roscoe Village. It is tucked away and unassuming but don't pass on this place. All of their baked goods are prepared in house - the miso rye was sold out but I can't wait to try that and the mochi brownie! The matcha was delicious and the espresso was smooth. My husband and I stopped by here on a Sunday morning around 10:30am. Sweet Rabbit Bakery had a cute interior and wasn't too crowded. We ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches with the sausage ($9 per). Service was friendly and quick! We both really enjoyed the sandwiches!! The bread was light and fresh, and the sausage was juicy and delicious. The thing that really put it over the edge was the Chili Crunch Pimento Cheese - it tied everything together and gave it that "it" factor. Overall we were really happy with the food and will be back! I absolutely loved the pastries here. I just happened to stumble upon it while I was getting my puppy groomed. The hunny bunny is just a cinnamon roll with honey glaze on it, it was good but nothing overly special. The two croissants were awesome. I especially loved the chocolate almond croissant. I'm generally not a big fan of chocolate and avoid it, but I loved it here. I ended up eating the entire pastry. The pistachio croissant was also pretty good, but I got a somewhat orangey taste from it. The cafe has a nice little vibe and lets you see back into the bakery which is cool. The staff were also very welcoming and it was clear they know all their regulars well! The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars and not 5 is because of the price. These three pastries together were almost $20 which is very expensive. I would definitely come back here, but likely as a treat and not too often due to the price. read more

New bakery at corner of Belmont/ Leavitt in what used to be a Starbucks. Walking in, it's very modern with some seating, glass pastry cases & espresso machine. Nice pastry menu consisting of croissants, kouign-amanns, cinnamon rolls & even a baklava bearclaw!! They also have muffins, cookies, brownies, etc. Bread seems to be the focus here and they have many varieties which vary each day, they said. House Sourdough made with Turkey Red Wheat! Stopped in earlier to try a few things and they were very good; they seem to do slight variances to traditional pastries to enhance flavors. Awesome Cinnamon Roll called a "Hunny Bunny" with a honey/ vanilla glaze as well as a very good Banana Muffin. Cant wait to go back and try some of their bread! I was skeptical about going to this bakery because the area didn't seem as bustling on a Saturday morning, but I was very impressed. We tried the chocolate almond croissant, pistachio croissant, and honey bun. All the pastries were very yummy! I think the chocolate almond croissant had the perfect amount of filling, but the pistachio one should've had more filling :( My only other complaint is that the prices for pastries are a tad bit pricey (about $5 and up). As we watched the pastries being made in the back while ordering them in the front, we were blown away to receiver pastries that even looked better than the ones on display. THE BEST bread, pastries, and cookies that are truly inspired!!! For breads, the miso rye is deliciously earthy yet light and the seeded bread is chock full of a yummy seed variety. For pastries, I loved the rich flavors and fluffy textures that did not feel heavy: buckwheat with a slightly chewy black sesame topping, refreshing cardamom ginger and light orange zest, a generous decadent slab of chocolate in the flaky chocolate croissant. (I already loved the regular croissant but a foodie friend and I agree this chocolate croissant is the best ever.) For the chocolate cookies, they are HUGE and have the right mix of crispy outside and chewy inside. Service and ambience was perfect as my friend and I enjoyed our oat milk lattes at one of the tables against a wall of cheery paintings. Andrew the owner/baker and his staff thoughtfully helped me pick out what to try at the bakery and what would keep for my flight home (a bag of housemade granola too!). The Sweet Rabbit icon is so cute and I got trucker hats and t-shirts to give away with the bakery goods. The hats and t-shirts are on a stand in the hallway to the 2 clean, accessible bathrooms. I was staying in downtown Chicago's Marriott and it was a quick 15 minute ride in the morning. It was definitely worth it to try and buy something unique and delicious to bring home and give away. My small carryon suitcase fit a paper bag of the round bread loaf, a dozen pastries/cookies, the granola, and the hats/t-shirt. The pastries and cookies didn't crumble or squash after I came back home and took them out of the suitcase. Other fun facts: Another friend who lives in Chicago had gone 5 times in one month alone, just a couple months after Sweet Rabbit Bakery had opened, and she ended up ordering $100 of pastries to give away. Sweet Rabbit Bakery made one of Chicago's Hot 10 restaurant lists for a reason! I love the fact that this local bakery, which uses locally sourced ingredients that really elevate the quality and taste, used to be a Starbucks location that left the neighborhood. I'm telling everyone they MUST TRY Sweet Rabbit Bakery whether they live in or visit Chicago! The website allows you to order for pickup or delivery. To the dismay of customers lined up behind me, I took my leisurely time studying the unique & traditional baked good offerings in the Pastry case. The soft-spoken and cordial owner, Andrew, patiently answered my questions about his intriguing creations. Ultimately I selected a rich, flaky kouign-amann laced with black sesame and Morning Cardi-o, a sweet cruffin dusted with cardamom and orange zest sugar. Couldn't leave without a buttery, pillow loaf of Japanese milk bread &iced matcha with oat milk was perfectly creamy with the right hint of sweetness. Simple, modern and cozy seating inside. Love that they have a dog friendly somewhat sun-shaded outdoor patio in the back. Been there now a handful of times and absolutely love their cold brew and have tried several pastries and all were fresh and delicious. Welcome to the neighborhood. Sweet Rabbit Bakery and all its staff are delightful! My wife and I had been eagerly stalking their instagram over the last year as they worked through construction and permitting until their opening and we have been blown away. All of their pastry goods are impeccable (personal favs are the Cardi-o, Ham & Swiss Croissant, the Banana Muffins, and all of their Milk Bread variants) and they also do fantastic loaves of bread. They've also opened up their patio with some seating, which makes for a lovely little space to enjoy a baked good and coffee during a morning walk. The whole staff is really lovely and I've been impressed as how quickly they seem to have hit their groove. Super excited to have Sweet Rabbit in the neighborhood! Second time here and wowza! I tried the savory danish pea, ricotta (which I'm not the biggest fan), hint of orange and I think it had white pepper on top. I might have missed an ingredient but who cares it was just so yummy. I wasn't going to get but so glad I did it was a taste of heaven in my mouth so good! I also bought English muffins this time can't wait to try, carrot cake and lemon danish. Staff so nice. If they keep this up will be in my top 5 bakeries in Chicago.
