I bought some treats to take home from Lost Larson recently. This was my first visit to Lost Larson, now a mainstay on Clark Street in Andersonville. There was a good crowd chillin' inside, and there were also a few tables outside for those who wish to enjoy their goodies along a busy stretch of sidewalk. I shared with my lovely wife (of course) and I'd say our favorite two items are the chocolate croissant and the cinnamon roll. Close behind is the classic croissant, followed by the cardamom bun. The line moved surprisingly fast at Lost Larsen. Very cute interior, albeit not very large, but they do have an outdoor patio. I ordered an oat milk caramel latte, which was very enjoyable once I gave it a good stir. The first sip was pretty sweet since the syrup settled at the bottom, but after mixing it up, it hit the exact flavor profile you expect from a great caramel latte. Since I live nearby, I grabbed a mix of pastries to go. Even without warming them up, the textures and flavors were fantastic. The almond croissant was flaky with a thick, crisp exterior and a dense, flavorful center. It wasn't overloaded with almonds on top, so I wasn't scrambling to wipe stray nuts off my clothes. The pecan sticky bun was also delicious--the bun looked like a soft roll wrapped in a rich caramel coating, and the caramelized pecans were incredible. My favorite was the Kouign-amann. It was my first time trying one, and the crisp, buttery layers reminded me of an intense, caramelized croissant. On the softer side, I tried the lingonberry almond cake. The top had a firmer crumb with almonds while the bottom was a soft cake with lingonberries throughout. It tasted good, though I realized I've been leaning more toward the crispier pastries lately. Lost Larson is an appropriately hyped Andersonville bakery. I finally got here on a Saturday mid morning and it was super busy. Line out the door, every seat full- but the line moved reasonably fast. All the pastries looked perfect, definitely something to bring and impress people. I got a chocolate croissant which was delicious but would have been better warmed up. I also got a lingonberry iced latte which was tasty. Was it all kind of overpriced? Yeah. But worth it anyway? Sure. Definitely worth a stop if you're hanging around Andersonville. read more

I got an almond lingonberry cake and tebirkes (looks similar to a croissant but with almond paste inside and poppy seeds on top). The almond lingonberry cake was a nice mix of sweet and tart. The tebirkes was yummy, not too sweet! I read other reviews before going in, and they mentioned an additional service? fee that is automatically added. I noticed that my total was higher than the total I estimated. I didn't want to cause a trouble and ask about the additional fee. I think that it's a little sneaky, because you don't see the additional fee unless you say yes for the receipt to be printed/emailed to you. The i-pad screen only shows the after tax and after service fee amount. And then it asks for tip on top of that. Bar seating near window, small 2 person tables. Cool upscale Andersonville bakery where you can get homemade baked goods and surprisingly good coffee amongst other coffee beverages. I also have tried their cold brew which is very good. The cream cheese muffin is damn good. There are a few rabies inside where you can set up and do a little work while enjoying their offerings. Out back they have a really nice patio seating area I discovered on the way out. I'll be back to try Lost Larsons again and more specifically their patio. This coffee shop is located in what seems to be the hipster area of Chicago. People were super friendly in passing and very care free. Seems to be a welcoming area of all walks of life and very accepting. Lost Larson is very popular. A friend who lives in Chicago recommended this place because it's one of her faves. I can see why. The danishes and other bakery items were really good. If they have the cake (can't even remember the flavor) but it had white icing and very fresh tasting....get it! They literally had one slice left, so I knew then it must be a hit. The matcha was good, but could be better. The matcha to milk ratio seemed to be off. More milky than matcha. read more

You can't go wrong with Lost Larson! I had a beautiful caramel latte, smorrebrod, and summer succotash quiche. The only downside was that someone went to town buying many slices of princess cake before I got there, so they were fresh out. I shall return because it is unbeatable!! read more

Got a toogoodtogo bag here (very competitive to get) - and it makes sense because their pastries, both savory and sweet, come highly recommended by my chicagoan friend. Got 7 pastries - all were very fresh, balanced, and nuanced in flavor. Pictured is a turbines and cardamom bun. Not pictured, but also got a croissant, cheddar and kale scone, blueberry muffin (which was fire), and another cardamom bun. All pastries were fresh - and the staff were super inviting and friendly. The space is very simplistic and elegant, and has some seating indoor and more outdoors. Would definitely come back for their pastries as they do both savory and sweet pastries well. Big window counters so you can do a quick lap to see what to get. The spelt cookie had a different almost grainy like texture from a normal chocolate chip cookie. My husband and I have been coming here since December 2019. We became regulars during the pandemic, every weekend we would show up, and wait outside with a ton of people. That is a testament to the quality of the food. It's a beautiful space, and the service is top notch. Always has been. I also really want to share a story that took place 10 min ago. Ha! I ordered the Princess Cake for my husband's 40th, it's his favorite cake. I somehow ordered it to the wrong location, but Mike helped me secure a cake for my husband. We were already running late and going to the WP location was not an option. He helped me, I have the cake, and my husband is so excited. The vibe on this street alone will get you to walk in. You walk into a beautiful bakery where they are making fresh bread and baked goods. I saw a wonderful setting in the space for nice chairs and visible baked goods and such. I love that you can see them making the goods while you are there. The only complaint would be the staff was a bit uptight and tense when taking orders and I noticed that with mine and others who were ordering. I ordered an Almond Milk Latte and Lingonberry Almond Cake + Chocolate Stem cookie. The latte was well done and velvety in texture. It was not burnt at all and was a smooth sip. The lingonberry cake is a must - it was very unique with a bit of tartness and crummy texture that was a bit sweet but paired well. The chocolate stem cookie was nice and crunchy on the outside yet gooey on the inside side and they did not hold back on the chocolate chips. Several weeks ago I was watching the series finale of Billions. Chef Ryan had returned and came bearing a tray of cardamom buns. Wags bites into it and loses his mind. That completely set me off in search of one as I was jonesing for one real bad. Did a little research and came across Lost Larson. I placed an order online for pick-up. I am so glad I did that because I went online the same day to check for more of the buns and they were sold out. I placed an order for cardamom buns, cinnamon roll, afternoon tea cake and lingonberry almond cake. The cinnamon roll and and lingonberry almond cake were good, but just didn't tickle my fancy. The cinnamon roll was more croissant like in pastry texture, with a dollop of frosting on top. It was very brown in color, which for me suggested it had been in the oven too long. But based on other reviews I have read, I guess that is the why they look. The texture threw me off as it was not like a typical pastry dough. While it looked like a croissant, it was a little more chewier than one. I don't much about Swedish pastries, so I am taking a guess that this is their version of a cinnamon roll. The lingonberry almond cake was hard to pin down in terms of the flavors. I didn't really get any almond flavor, even though I could see the sliced almonds. Not being familiar with the taste of lingonberry. I was picking up a somewhat tartness at the end, but it was not the predominate flavor. If I had to say what that was, it would simply be sweet. The winners for me were the Afternoon Tea Cake and definitely the Cardamom bun. The tea cake was brown in color like the cinnamon roll, but it was not a chewy, nor did it have that texture. It was sprinkled in sugar and was good when it was slightly warmed. The Cardamom bun was without a doubt the best of the bunch. This had more of what I expect of a pastry dough texture. The flavor was dead on, but not overpowering. The Doctor had a piece and was puzzled by the flavor, but loved it, As it was his first time having one, he couldn't pin down the flavor. For me, it is a hard flavor to describe, similar to red pop from the Southside of Chicago. You can't put it into words, but you know what it tastes like once you have had it. I usually tell people to think of allspice. This bun was the clear winner for me and I will be returning to get more. There was rock sugar and a sugar glaze on the bun, which provided just enough sweetness for me. Price-wise, the pastries are somewhat on the high side...8 pastries almost ran me $70. I would say I would not have a problem paying for the Cardamom bun, but would think twice about other items. I strongly recommend ordering online to make sure you get what you want, which is what I did. I will be returning for those buns for sure, and the tea cakes every now and then. read more

I lost my streak of visiting "Lost Larson" Bakery due to various reasons: COVID-19, gotten busy with children, lack of free time and etc. My first time in the Andersonville location was a positive one. I was impressed with the princess cake. The cafe, from what I remembered, was quite busy during a January morning. Seating wasn't ample but it was comfortable enough to dine in. They had quite strict COVID patron policy in regard of ordering and pickup. I did manage to stop by once yet I wasn't able to snatch anything to eat... In the year of 2024, I still missed my princess cake. Of course there was a similar item at an I*ea food court, the one at "Lost Larson" tasted better and it was just nostalgic to me. I actually was looking for another bakery to see if it was available on Doordash and ran across LL. I immediately convinced my family to place an order so that they could give it a try. It turned out they didn't have my princess cake (tears...). It was alright after I browsed through the rest of menu and chose the cheddar & kale scone. My mom also selected a savory option: spinach & feta croissaint. It was risky to order coffee via a delivery platform, but I craved for a cup of cold brew and I was able to add on the oat milk. Even though delivery took a bit to arrive, the tastes of bakery items weren't affected as much as I anticipated. The scone was filling and the aroma was intoxicating. I warmed it in the microwave for less a minute then the crust was back to its glory. I told myself I should have ordered an additional spinach & feta croissant because the sesame seeded crust was addicting. I even scraped the fallen crust and picked up the dispersed sesame seeds inside the container. "Lost Larson" might make you shrink the wallet. However, the money you spent on the food wasn't going to be a complete loss. At least my experience with LL delivery via Doordash was a good one. I would still prefer to visit their Andersonville shop if I get an opportunity to do so. read more

I wanted cake, but they only had some chocolate croissants, cinnamon rolls, and a few other things. We got a croissant and a cinnamon roll, I didn't find the person behind the counter to be friendly, I'm not even sure if she spoke any words. We asked if there happened to be any cake left, and she just nodded her head no. We also got a coffee, which was decent. The chocolate croissant had a very mild flavor, it was very flakey, though. The cinnamon roll was just ok. Not much cinnamon flavor, in my opinion. This was a disappointment. As I was excited to try this bakery, it had been bookmarked on Yelp to check out. read more
