Sando Street is truly one of Chicago's best hidden gems! This counter serve Korean / Japanese eatery serves the most delicious Japanese sandos. I've tried nearly every savory one on the menu, and they never miss the mark! My favorites have been the KFC and the Crispy Eggplant (& I'm not even vegetarian!). Another trick is to get a side of their Japanese Curry - it goes amazing as a dip with any of the sandos. The staff is also the best - they are so kind while efficient, and they keep their facility very clean and enjoyable to dine in at. Can't wait to try some of their sweet sandos soon!
My son wanted to try this spot so I ordered a few sandwiches, I didn't get a chance to take pictures of all the sandwiches I ordered because my son was too excited to try his orders. I got two tonkatsu sandos, one spam sando, one of tamago sando, an Ube crème sando, and a mango crepe sando with a strawberry milkis. Everything was well packaged and tasted amazing!
So many other reviews that mine probably won't add too much, but here's my two cents: delicious, reasonable pricing, great service, quick, and clean/casual, which are all the things I'm wanting and looking for in a dining experience. The menu is super curated, so you won't get way too many options and so they can guarantee anything you order is going to be good. I was worried about there not being enough parking or seating, but neither were an issue when I went with my gaggle of gals around 1215pm on a Saturday. (side note: free parking can be found in the neighborhood pretty easily around the block and, if you're someone who doesn't mind stopping traffic and having everyone watch as you parallel park, even on the main street.) I got the bulgogi sando and the matcha creme sando (comes with strawberries), both of which were delish and not over the top. There's also a small but solid selection of Asian canned drinks available, too. Note: there is no bathroom, and expect the fruit sandos to be Asian-level sweet and light (read: not super sweet or decadent). I'll likely be back.
This was a great sandwich shop that had a great selection of items on their menu. We went with the KFC and Tonkatsu Curry sandwiches and they tasted so similar to ones we had in Japan. The curry was seasoned to perfection and the coleslaw in the KFC was good. The cashier was very nice and asked if it was good after we finished eating. The place is on the smaller side with no bathroom but there are about 8-10 tables/booths ish total. Definitely would come back for the curry.
I was visiting Chicago for a wedding and stayed in the Wicker Park area. My friend gave me a list of options for my meals while I was in town, and Sando Street caught my eye. I love a casual Japanese sandwich, and we don't have any of that where I live. TONKATSU SANDO - 13.49 +3 for a side of Japanese curry This was just OK. The bread was just bread, not super soft or fluffy like I had expected. My friend thinks they have changed the type of bread they used since the last time she was here. The katsu sauce was too strong and acidic. The breading on the katsu was a bit soggy, and there wasn't a lot of meat. The curry on the side was good, but not worth getting for this sando since it was already so saucy. I would recommend something else. My friend got the yuzu mango creme fruit sando, and she says their sweet options are typically better. Overall, friendly service with a casual interior and ambiance.

It came out super fresh and the portion was pretty good. The yuzu mango crème sando was also something I order and expected the bread to be softer than it was. It was aesthetically pleasing, but the flavor wasn't there for me.
The egg sando was just ok. The bread was a bit firm and seemed a bit stale. Egg was a bit dull too. However, the Ube Cream was incredible. Not overly sweet with strawberry in every bite and not just the facade. Soft bread too. This is an absolute star. I wasn't able to eat both halves and ate the other half the following day and it was still great. This is a must for the Ube Cream.
Great spot for some solid, unique sandwiches! We tried the Bugogi and the KFC, and they were both a hit. I'd skip on the gyozas, they were just okay. Gentleman at the cash register was very kind and friendly. Smaller spot with about 8-10 tables.
Such a breeze in Chicago - fast, friendly, unique, clean, and seriously yummy! We got the Ube Sando, the KFC Sando, and the tonkatsu Japanese curry rice bowl, and enjoyed every bite. The Ube Sando was not too heavy or overly sweet, which made it so easy to love. The KFC Sando was packed with flavor, and the tonkatsu - how was it that crispy?? Even our picky toddler loved it, rice and all.
Disclaimer: I'm a New Yorker who's moved to Chicagoland so maybe I'm a bit snooty but the regular Yelpers in the Midwest should always be viewed with a star and a 1/2 less than what is expected normally. Ordered a bunch, those that were listed as top 4 by other reviewers, to share with the fam. Tamago - delicious but couldn't help feeling like this can be easily replicated at home. Still delicious. Bulgogi - bulgogi taste gets lost in the other items stacked in this sandwich. Tonkatsu - my son bought a side of curry and dipped this in there. Definitely leveled it up. KFC - the best out of the bunch. Every bite was well balanced. Ube Crème - tasted like what you're thinking of, if you know Ube. Yuzu Mango Crème - this was a surprise but very delicious. Will likely try Ubering from this place and will order the KFC and the Yuzu Mango for sure.
Small, cozy spot for some Japanese-inspired sandwiches. I got the Musubi and my friend got the eggplant (not pictured). Because of the way they serve the sandwiches, it's each to exchange halves, which is what we did, so we could try both sandwiches! The eggplant sandwich has more texture, but the egg in the Musubi sandwich is just so dang good. They're both excellent sandwiches. Good portions, food comes out relatively quick, but an all around good food spot.

I ordered on Uber Eats. Sando Street has been on my "to try" list for so long. My interest sparked even before I went to Japan. I think the only thing that stopped me before was the prices. Since I wanted to try the egg sando, tonkatsu, and the matcha strawberry.. my total was around $50+ for the three sandwiches. The packaging for the to go orders were done perfectly. It was secured and neatly packed. The sando came with sweet potato chips. I ate one half of the egg sandwich and one half of the tonkatsu before I had to take a break from all the bread. Both of the sando were delicious and tasty. I would agree to the other reviews, don't compare this to Japan, instead, think about how this business did a wonderful job incorporating egg salad into a sandwich! I enjoyed it as its own! The matcha strawberry was probably my favorite. I was looking forward to every bite of strawberry. I will say... eat the dessert one soon! Don't wait hours like I did.
wow. this place is so good. we came for the dessert sandwiches but the tonkastu curry dip sandwich stole the show. it is so amazingly delicious i highly recommend it. we also got the matcha creme strawberry sandwich and it was very good. i would get both again but i would come back for the savory sandwich everyday. they have individual bathrooms that are very nice and normal. the staff was also very kind! read more
Hello again. Like I said, I've been some places. Second stop, Sando Street. Located off the corner of North Avenue and Ashland, Sando street is a super cute restaurant offering Sando sandwiches. Upon entry, you're greeted, welcoming you in. You may order to go or dine in. They have small tables with chairs, booth and counter seating available. There is mixture of Animé art and album art referencing hip hop legend Kanye West with hip hop music playing in the background. I ordered a savory sandwich called the KFC and the strawberry ube cream sandwich. IM OBSESSED! Both were absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back! read more

Sando Street was such a good find. I went with the Tonkatsu Sando, and it absolutely delivered. The pork tenderloin had a really crisp panko crust while still staying tender inside. The sliced cabbage added a nice freshness and crunch, while the katsu sauce and mild chili aioli brought a balance of savory, sweet, and just enough heat. But you need to get the side of Japanese curry. Seriously. It's rich, savory, and comforting, and it pairs so well with the tonkatsu. The sando was delicious on its own, but the curry took the whole thing to another level. I don't think I'd order the sando without it now. I also tried the sparkling calamansi, which was bright, citrusy, and refreshing. It was a nice contrast to the richness of the pork and curry. Overall, everything was really well balanced and thoughtfully put together. Now I'm just trying to figure out which sando I want to try next because there are way too many good options on the menu. Definitely adding this one to my list of spots to revisit. read more

This is a pretty small spot, so it's probably better for takeout, but we got lucky and snagged a table. Food came out quickly, about 15 minutes, which was a nice plus. We ordered the KFC sandwich, tonkatsu curry bowl, and the matcha strawberry sando. Hands down, the matcha strawberry sando was my favorite. The cream was light and not overly sweet, with just enough matcha flavor. The strawberry was nicely sweet, and the bread was super soft. Really well done. The KFC sandwich was my second favorite. The flavor was solid and the chicken was juicy, though I wish the breading had been crispier. The pickled cucumbers were a nice touch and helped cut through the heaviness. The sweet potato chips that come with it could use more seasoning. Unfortunately, the tonkatsu curry bowl was a miss for me. The pork cutlet was very thin, dry, and lacked seasoning. The curry itself was just okay but could use more spice, and the rice was a bit mushy. read more
We finally made it over to Sando Street after many months of driving past it! Our small group ordered a variety of appetizers, sandos, 1 rice bowl and the creme sandos. For the appetizers we had gyozas and popcorn chicken. Both were freshly cooked and hit the spot. Next up we have the spam and bulgogi sandos which were tasty and filling alongside the sweet potato chips. The katsu curry rice bowl also hit the spot and my daughter was full halfway thru. Last but not least we had the ube creme sandwhich. The strawberries were a perfect complement to the ube creme. Everything was delicious. We had a slight wait time but also had a large group of +5 in front of us. Our food was made to order so we appreciate the wait time with our food being hot. We will definitely be back again to try more of the menu! read more
Absolutely loved the sandos at Sando Street. I came in only for the ube sando but ended up trying the Crispy Eggplant Sando as well and it did not disappoint. The flavours are really yum, dripping with a very tasty sauce, well cooked eggplant and some nice Japanese sweet potato chips on the side! We also got the matcha strawberry latte and the cafe lemon tree mocha! Perfect drinks to go along with the food. The strawberries in the ube sando were so fresh!! I love sando street's rice bowls! It's a great lunch takeout spot. The fried chicken is always super fresh and crispy. My recent favorite is the kfc curry rice bowl. Don't worry the kfc stands for ''korean fried chicken" and is way better than the other KFC. The curry sauce is flavorful and the rice is cooked perfectly. I love that they have mountain dew Baja Blast in cans here. I always put my order in online and it's ready in like 10 minutes. The staff are always friendly when I come by and there are seats if you want to dine in, just note there's no bathroom. I like the hip hop aesthetic and that they play old school hip hop and rnb music from the 2000s. read more
Sando Street has been on my list for a while, so I was so excited to give them a try on a Tuesday afternoon! We came around 1pm, and the store had a few other customers but no wait. The service was very quick--we got our orders shortly after ordering. In terms of the environment, there are a few tables, but the space is generally on the smaller side. It's definitely a casual vibe. We ordered the KFC Sando and Ube Cream Sando. I really enjoyed the KFC Sando; it was incredibly flavorful, and the texture of the fried chicken was so nice against the soft, pillowy bread. The chips that it came with were pretty forgettable, but the sandwich itself was delicious. The Ube Cream Sando was just okay. The ratio of cream to fruit was off, and the ube cream just became too much after some bites. Overall, it was nice to try them! I would be interested in trying their other savory menu items for sure. read more
Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was nice. This place is kept clean and after we ordered the food came out pretty quick. We got their tonkatsu with the Japanese curry dip and the musbi spam sando which was good. The dessert Sandi's was good but I would say the bread is a little dry and not fresh. It would have been good if it was fresh. Overall the place and cashier person was pretty nice. read more

I've been wanting to check this place out and see if it lived up to the hype and it didn't disappoint! I went with the Crispy Eggplant Sando, the KFC Sando and a dessert Sando to top it off! Just a simple sit down joint..just chill. The guys at the counter were friendly and took their time to answer all of my questions I had. Crispy Eggplant was a no brainer 10/10. The KFC was just a tad over sauced imo but still 10/10 worthy and the Ube Cream Strawberry Sando was a solid 8/10. They offer more than just Sando's too which is nice! And keep in mind I had all these Sandos as take out and they were even still great the next day!! I definitely can't wait to go back and dine in! New comfort place for me. I am don't overlook their Sweet potato chips...incredible! read more
Sando Street is one of my go-to spots--whether I'm ordering for myself or treating my team. The sandwiches are always delicious and come with chips, which is a nice touch. He gave a solid recommendation and made sure we had everything we needed, especially water after being in the sun all day. Cute sandwich shop in West Town area. The staff were so friendly and welcoming (definitely contributed to another star). The food came out at a reasonable time, however this is not your typical fast casual place. I love the concept of the Japanese/Hawaiian sandos and happy that this place tried to bring this to Chicago. I tried the bulgogi sando with the sweet potato chips and the popcorn chicken. The bulgogi sando had wonderful savoury notes, however the taste seemed to skew a bit off balanced to tangy. The popcorn chicken was juicy. I just wish it was more crispy. read more

Great customer service!!! Quality of the food is fresh and tasty! The Bulgogi, KFC, and Tonkatsu is my go to for bowl or sandwich. For dessert, all the Fruit Sandos are amazing! I love all of them, the Ube, Matcha, and Banana Crème are a great finish to a tasty meal! Suggest just a small group can dine in. Larger group should order carry out. Easy to go for your meal if you have left overs. Wish I could order the sandwiches as a catering party tray for my family party. I recommend this to all my family and friends! One downside is just street parking, no parking lot. It would be hard to pick up quick carry out. No bathroom inside, but can use the fancy Hyatt Hotel bathroom next door. read more
Can't believe it took me so long to check out this place! Food was amazing! I love the kfc and the crème sandos, will try other favors next time. Parking can be a little challenging, we went on a Friday at lunch time so we were able to find parking on the street nearby, think ahead! Great place, definitely try! read more

This is a small, counter service restaurant with not a ton of seating. There a a few booths and tables, making for a very cozy experience. They have a water dispenser available for self service. I went there with a friend and we both ordered the tonkatsu sando. I also got an og tamago sando for take out. The tonkatsu was delicious and the house made chips paired well with them. I was hoping that the tamago would be more similar to egg salad sandwiches I had in Japan, but it was not as sweet or creamy; it was more egg-forward. (Which can be a good thing! It's just not what I prefer.) The bread used, though dense and still high quality, was not the Japanese milk bread I was expecting to bite into. Overall, still a good experience, just not entirely what I was expecting. read more
Delicious and creative sandwiches and more! I loved trying out Sando Street for the first time today. Walking in the staff was very friendly and greeting us asking if we had any questions. We ended up trying a couple of things. My favorite had to be the ube and strawberry sando. It had a similar taste profile to strawberry shortcake if the whipped cream was ube. I also enjoyed their house made sauces. Overall I had a great time trying out some new things at Sando Street! read more
4.5 - There was some seating available on the inside. Best for smaller parties or pick up. I got the bulgogi Sando. Def not bad but didn't blow me out of the water flavor wise. However the service was very friendly and kind so would go again to try a different sando and would recommend to others. read more

This was a hike to travel to! But it was pretty worth it. The sandwiches are stuffed and they are very tasty. Can't beat a classic sando and chips. It is a hole-in-the-wall spot, so pretty quiet and calm. Would recommend! read more

i was pretty excited to come here because i had it bookmarked for a bit. on a sunday afternoon around 1pm, it started filling up a bit. i got the bulgogi sando and it was delicious- the flavors all melded together really well and the bread was perfectly soft. it was a pretty good size too. the bulgogi was really flavorful and well marinated. my friend got the matcha sando. i would come back another time to try one of their sweet sandwich offerings! read more
