Finally got to try the famous Mott burger and it definitely lived up to the hype! I don't normally love sauce on my burger, but all of the toppings and the sauce came together so nicely to create an amazing umami flavor. Aside from the burger, we ordered the crispy cauliflower and the everything noodles with shrimp. I soul recommend the cauliflower as it had great flavor and was perfectly cooked. The noodles were good, but nothing special in my opinion.
service was 10/10. The ambiance was real flavorful. but I gotta say... that "dirty rice" really pissed me off the plantain was not soft or sweet but the rice was somehow fishy??? maybe let the Caribbean's do that lol. The branzino went crazy & have some delicious sauces!! but the brussels were also underdone and underwhelming. The butter oyster mushrooms were good asl. I gave 4 stars for the vibes and atmosphere. The food was a good 3.4
This place brings big Asian street food energy with bold flavors and shareable plates. The ambiance is dim with candles on the table, a little loud with faint music playing, but still a fun vibe overall. 7.5/10. Service was amazing. Our server was super nice and attentive, and other staff kept checking in and refilling water which I really appreciated 9/10. The brussels sprouts were just okay. A little too oily and missing some flavor, but actually tasted way better when dipped in the wing sauce. 4/10. The everything wings were delicious flavor-wise, just wish they were crispier. 6/10. The fire chicken was SO good. The sweet gochujang sauce was amazing, the tteokbokki had the perfect chewy texture, and there was plenty of chicken. Super comforting dish. 9.5/10. The Mott burger + egg... easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. The hoisin aioli, sweet potato shoestrings, and over easy egg all worked perfectly together. Such a unique flavor combo. 9.7/10. The lemon poppy seed donuts were a great way to end. Crispy with a nice lemon flavor and poppy seed texture. 7/10.
Mott St has some seriously good food, but the service during our visit left a lot to be desired and that's the reason it's getting 3 stars from me. We came in for brunch and ordered the Kalbi Steak and Eggs, the Fish Filet Sandwich, and the Mott Burger. The food itself was excellent. The kalbi steak was tender and flavorful, the fish filet sandwich was crispy and well balanced, and the Mott Burger absolutely lived up to the hype. Every dish tasted great and you can see why people recommend this place. Unfortunately the service didn't match the quality of the food. Our waitress accidentally spilled a drink on one of my friends at the table, which felt pretty careless. There were also a couple mistakes with our drink orders. The biggest issue was that we specifically asked for a non-alcoholic beer and were served the alcoholic version instead. That's a pretty big mistake, especially when someone is intentionally avoiding alcohol. It also makes you wonder why the alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions have almost the exact same name, which just seems like it's asking for confusion. Overall the food was great and definitely the highlight of the experience, but the service issues made the visit a bit frustrating. Maybe it was just an off day, so definitely willing to give it another chance considering food was great.
Excellence! Chef Kim knows his stuff! Wok-Smoked Gai Lan (5): Any dish that makes you like something you didn't like before is great. This was the case for us. Both my wife and I didn't like eggplant. You wouldn't know this was eggplant unless I told you. The edges had a nice firm bite to it and it was soft inside (not mushy). I think generally the texture is a turn-off for us, but this was nailed. The gai lan of course was tasty as well without too much bitterness. Just enough to give you a nice contrast. Excellent! Crispy Tofu (5): Another winner. Tofu was indeed crispy and it was very soft inside. Almost like it melted away. Excellent light flavors as well. Great starter dish. Char Siu Pork Belly (5): My personal favorite. The Char Siu flavors really shined through and the pork belly was done perfectly. Crispy, tender, with just enough fat to give you a nice flavor and mouth feel. Everything Wings (4.5): If I had to nitpick, this was just a tad lower on my scale than the other dishes. It was still delicious with moist chicken and crispy skin. It's the entire wing so there's more to munch on. They crisp the skin perfectly so you can actually munch on the smaller parts of the wing which wasn't burnt or dry like most places. Hanger Steak Kalbi (5): This one was right up there with the pork belly for me. Charred nicely and definitely had a good KBBQ flavor to it. How can you go wrong with Hanger Steak? Delicious! Mott Burger (5): Believe the hype, this thing was delicious! If there was a burger than can melt in your mouth at the same time as being crispy with tons of flavors tying it together, this is it. Everything Shrimp Noodles (5): The huge pieces of shrimp is what you notice first. Giant and moist. Garlic noodles can compliment almost anything IMO. This was another fantastic dish. Stuffed Cabbage (5): This was interesting. Almost couldn't tell it was cabbage. It was chopped up and stir fried or something. Paired with some rice and some super delicious sauce. I was pretty amazed this was cabbage. Chocolate Miso Torte (5): I'm a sucker for chocolate. This was amazing. You have some contrast with a slightly salty miso. Chocolate is rich and smooth at the same time. Strawberry Sticky Rice (4.5): I'm a fan of sticky rice. Generally thats a savory offering. Put that texture into a sweet arena and it's a really nice dessert. Overall we had a really nice meal. Props to Chef Kim and Vicki for an amazing menu and restaurant!
I REALLY enjoyed my time here and the vibes are really good in my opinion! Miguel was an incredible server and I loved that they brought out the dishes as they were ready and we just ate family style! Ranked favorite dishes: Crispy Chili Cauliflower - so crispy, perfect sweet and spicy // Oyster Mushrooms - perfectly buttery and the fresh lemon cut through perfectly // Char Siu Pork Belly - great glaze and char and it balanced very well with the greens // Hamachi Crudo - a perfectly balanced bite with the sauce and pear
Beef patties were cooked well done - if that's your thing, you'll have no issue with it but imo it makes it too dry... the bun was supposed to be a Hawaiian bun, but it lacked the softness and butteriness I expected the hoisin mayo, pickles, and sweated onions carried the entire flavor profile of the burger (finally some difference in taste with each bite! I'm not bored halfway through eating it ) The sweet potato frizzies on top were a nice crunch!
During our visit to downtown Chicago, we dined at Mott St and had an overall enjoyable experience, especially as vegetarians. The restaurant was very busy but we had reservation . The crowd showed popularity and good food of restaurant. We ordered a variety of vegetarian dishes, including tofu, garlic rice, crispy cauliflower, and oyster mushrooms. Every dish was well prepared and full of flavor. The crispy cauliflower was nicely crisped , while the garlic rice was aromatic and comforting. The crispy cauliflower was perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender inside, making it one of the highlights of our meal. The oyster mushrooms were also delicious, cooked just right and packed with rich, savory taste. The quality of ingredients and presentation were impressive, and it was clear that care was taken in preparing vegetarian options, which we really appreciated.staff is good and explained vegetarian food properly One small drawback was when we asked for a burger, but we were told that burgers are not served at the table after 7 pm , for burger you have to sit in bar area . This was a bit disappointing, as it limited our choice at that moment. Overall, Mott St is a great place for flavorful vegetarian dishes, and we would definitely recommend it
The place offers a fusion take. The food is average, not entirely sure whether I simply order the wrong dishes given the ratings. We had decent service, nothing short if expectation in casual dinning. The ambiance is perhaps the best or notable part. The vibe is cool, very eclectic that fits the food style. Steam fish wrap - the best dish of all. Nicely steam and the sauce and other parts are just Tofu - rather blend in tasting despite some many other ingredients surrounding it making it looked good; a punch of soy sauce to boost the umami could help
Could this be the best burger in Chicago? (I think so). My friend and I went at 11:30 AM on a Sunday. Even though we had reservations there was plenty of seating! We sat indoors right by the window. The interior was really cute and definitely picture-worthy. Our server was super attentive, friendly, and made splitting a few things really easy by bringing two plates. (And her outfit was super cool too!) The food was the biggest highlight. We ordered the coconut pancakes, Mott burger, and a side of kimchi potatoes. I especially loved the hibiscus butter, coconut maple syrup, and the sweet potato shoestrings on the burger. I can't wait to come back and recommend this as a must-try burger in Chicago to my friends.
Had a great brunch experience recently at the very popular Mott St in Wicker Park. Came on a late Sunday morning where the sun was shining brightly on their very nice patio. We had a lovely server in which I unfortunately dont recall her name. She was great and definitely let us know which were the best goodies on the menu. The cuisine here is Asian fusion so I came ready for some kimchi! I started a couple of tasty cocktails...they do good here! The Kimchi Fried Rice spoke to me so I went that route along with a side of Kimchi Breakfast Potatoes. Both were very tasty and not too spicy...crazy flavor jumping off here. The aioli that comes with the potatoes goes very well with both dishes. Take advantage of that very nice patio while the weather is still nice!
Another review here it's been a few years since I've been back and the burger just still hits It's my fav burger ever and brought my best friends from out of town and they loved it If you come here and don't get the burger... what're you doing?? At least split it to try it lol I think they stop serving at or after 7PM so double check online or call if you're going specifically for that!!
Came back after 5 years to try the brunch here! I loved dinner here the first time, but I've heard great things about their day time menu! They serve the special burger for brunch as well as limited timing at night, so obviously we had to order that. Honestly, there were at least 4 mains that we were interested in, but ended up getting the avocado three layer dip and the kalbi steak & eggs as well. The avocado dip was so interesting, but I liked a new twist on your average avo toast. I appreciated the toasted bread for being crispy enough without being too hard that it cuts up your mouth. The kalbi was so tender and juicy and a pretty decent portion for the price! I wish the kimchi breakfast potatoes had more kimchi flavor! We made the mistake of eating the burger last. It was still delicious, but I know it would've been 10 times better if we ate it while it was hot. Beware of those jalapeños though! The burger had every flavor: sweet, salty, spicy, tangy, creamy. Basically something for everyone. Service was prompt and friendly despite it being totally packed in there! Reservations are definitely a MUST. Visited for the first time on a Friday around 12:30 PM. The place was absolutely packed, so making a reservation is a must for the lunch rush! We were pleasantly surprised by a nice brunch menu that wasn't listed online and ordered a variety of dishes to share. The Highlights: Mott Burger, Kalbi & Eggs, and Shrimp & Grits: All the meats and seafood were incredibly tender, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. Coconut Pancakes & Donuts: The three massive pancakes with hibiscus butter were amazing, and the warm lemon poppyseed donuts are a must-eat while hot! Gai Lan & Papaya Salad: Great savory and sweet/sour flavors with a nice kick. The Lowlights: Sumo Congee ($19): We upgraded to the "Sumo" size, but the portion wasn't actually that big for the price. Issan Sausage: Had a gamey taste that just wasn't for us (though the Sweet Longanisa was great). We paired everything with some refreshing lychee blossom and ginger beers. Met up with a friend here for brunch. We had a 1:15pm reservation. The place is super cute and there is city street parking available. They have a cocktail menu and server confirmed all wine/cocktails are gluten free. The server asked if I had celiac and confirmed to avoid cross contamination. She was very knowledgeable and came back with a marked up menu of what I could have. My friend and I shared the GF coconut pancakes, kimchi rice, and kimchi potatoes. The first time I tried Mott St was for the famous burger and I was blown away. It easily ranks among the best burgers I've ever had. Every element was perfection: the sweet potato shoestrings, hoisin aioli, pickled jalapeños, and rich miso butter all came together in a mouthwatering, unforgettable bite. This is a must-try. If you're planning to go for dinner, keep in mind that the burger isn't listed on the main dinner menu, it's available on the bar menu only and served until 7pm. Beyond the burger, I highly recommend the Mentaiko Kimchi Udon. The menu is extensive, with so many creative dishes that I'm already looking forward to trying on my next visit. Service was prompt, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I'll definitely be back for more of their Asian-inspired dishes. If you're building your list of great restaurants in Chicago, this one deserves to be on your list! read more
We'd been hearing for a while that this place has one of the best burgers in Chicago, so it's been on our list to try! It's usually tough to get a weekend reservation, but we happened to be in the area on Saturday, checked for openings, and somehow snagged a last-minute spot right before heading over. When we arrived, there were already a few groups waiting outside for them to open, but they opened right on time and we were seated immediately. Orders were taken promptly, and the staff mentioned we'd need to order everything at once -- a little unusual, but not a big deal. The place filled up quickly, so we expected a bit of a wait, but our food came out within about 10 minutes! Service was excellent throughout -- our glasses were refilled constantly, and empty dishes cleared right away without us even needing to ask. We started with the crispy cauliflower -- I really liked the flavors, though I expected it to be fried and extra crispy. It was baked and a bit al dente for my taste, but still pretty good. Next up was the pork belly, which was fantastic -- great flavor and perfectly cooked. The fire chicken was interesting -- more like a soupy stew with rice cakes, chicken, and cheese. It had a mix of sweet and spicy flavors, not exactly my thing, but definitely unique. And finally, the star of the show -- the Mott Burger! Loved all the different components that came together in this one. It really is a solid burger and worth the hype. Was able to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night, so that was very exciting! Notably, burgers aren't served after 7, so beware of that when you make a reservation. Even with no burger, this meal was great! Our server was friendly and attentive and the person who brought our dishes also gave context on the food and how to best enjoy each dish which I appreciated. Food + Bev: Started with the white lotus. To be fair, it says booze-forward and it is! Very gin forward rather than vodka, so this wasn't a favorite of mine, but it is described well on the menu and I just didn't internalize it well enough. Imperial Rolls: Like a egg roll lettuce wrap! I like creating each rolls and the addition of the crispy bean sprouts. Oyster Mushrooms: A nice little side dish. The miso butter is super rich, so the side size is perfect to not overdo it! Fire Chicken: A bit on the spicy side, but super flavorful. Loved the addition of the cheese in the dish, as well as the chwey rice cakes. Chicken is so juicy and tender. Wish it came with bread to dip. Stuffed Cabbage: Our server said it should be eaten like a lasagna which was super interesting! Great flavors here though kind of hard to cut. Garlic Shrimp + Noodles: My favorite dish we had! Loved how garlicky and saucy it was. Everything worked really well here. Would definitely get again! The food was INCREDIBLE. Everything we ate was a 10/10 in my opinion. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. The restaurant is very lively and loud which can be interpreted a few ways. As someone who is a little hard of hearing, I found it hard to hear my friends although didn't impact my experience. And despite $$$, I didn't feel like like the prices were egregious. Would recommend trying. Not pictured but the burger was a must! read more

12 year Michelin contender for a reason... the menu is small, but every single item needs to be eaten. Get the burger. Get the sticky rice. Enjoy the cocktails. Unreal and friendly service, the setting is peaceful and upbeat. I am more than surprised and thankful for my experience at Mott. Thanks Mott St team!! DAMN! read more
Ok yes the burger is a superstar, it's unapologetically messy but extremely tasty and I would have it any day of the week. This is my 3rd visit to Mott St and the dishes are creative and the service is always on point. No nonsense, intimate, quick and always focused on the food. It's a place where you can go and get stuffed and I love that about it even if every dish isn't perfect, the experience always is. read more
I experienced a delicious dinner service at Mott St with my party of 6. We sat outside on the patio, weather was nice and cool. This restaurant left an impression because people thought back on this meal very fondly. Menu has a lot of variety and I feel there is something for everyone. Since we were a big party we tried a lot of items on the menu. Some notable favorites were the pork belly, the crudo, the gailan, and the mushrooms. The oyster mushrooms came in this delicious miso butter and we had to get another order. The misoyaki butterfish was not the best for sharing and not one I would order next time. We tried one of each dessert but I was not wowed by any. The dragon shot aperitif was definitely entertaining! Our server was knowledgeable on the menu and very friendly. A con would be the confusing order some of the plates came out. It also took some time for them to take the empty plates off our tables. But, I liked how we didn't really feel rushed whereas some places like to get you in and out fast. read more
An absolutely amazing experience. I've eaten here twice for dinner and will probably eat here a million more times. First visit I sat at the bar, ordered the burger and a couple cocktails and had an amazing night pre-salt shed concert. Didnt have a reservation, but we were just a party of two and somehow two spots at the bar opened at the bar right as we walked in. Call that fate. Second visit with a party of 4, we sat outside and got the normal menu. Everything was delicious, good amount of vegetarian options, and exceptional mezcal cocktail. This is one of the best burgers I've had in the city. Definitely worth checking out. Be warned that the burger is only served til 7. read more
We had a reservation so we got seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Everything on the menu sounded amazing, but after trying the dishes we ordered we were a bit disappointed. We ordered the Mott st burger, roasted sweet potato, short rib, and hamachi collar. Our appetizer the roasted sweet potato was really good! The black bean butter went really well with the potato. The short rib with congee had too many clashing flavors going on and it made it too salty, I think if it had more congee it would've balanced out better but there was so little in proportion to the short rib. But the short rib itself was very soft and tender. The hamachi collar was good but we didn't like the cornbread that was underneath, it made all the textures feel grainy. We also ordered the burger which was the star of the show! The burger alone would've been five stars. Maybe would come back to try their brunch menu but probably not dinner. read more

Mott St is a great brunch spot! They have a large outdoor patio; however, it was super hot and not very shaded so we chose to sit inside. Mott St has a full bar and some fun brunch drinks. I ended up ordering a cinnamon tea that was really tasty. Our server was really nice and the food came out surprisingly fast! They have an asian fusion menu with multiple vegetarian options to order from. Eggs benedict is my favorite breakfast food, and their version was eggplant benedict. It came with oyster mushrooms, eggplant, greens, and a spicy sweet miso glaze. It was reallllllly good! I've seen restaurants have lots of fun versions of eggs benedict but they're always meat based. This was the first time I've had one with eggplants and mushrooms, and it's easily made my top 3 eggs benedict in the city! I will definitely be coming back here! I would love to try the jackfruit skillet or the coconut pancakes. read more

Amazing food. We were blown away. Top dishes for us were the pork belly, charred cabbage, kimchi udon, and steak kalbi. We also got the garlic rice, calamari ceviche, and brussel sprouts. All good as well. It ended up being a good amount for the 5 of us. We had just a little bit leftover. It's served family style which is fun. Nice to try all dishes together and compare. Cool vibe in there. Server was super helpful to help us pick items, and we had some dietary restrictions and he was very accommodating and helped us navigate the menu and everything smoothly. Made it a great experience for sure. They were on top of it with drink refills as well which is always a nice touch. We'd definitely be down to come again sometime! read more
Came to get a casual dinner before a show at the salt shed and grabbed seats the at the bar, it was fun to watch the bartenders making the cocktails and learned that Kevin the dragon had Mallort in it during NYE but was just an amaretto when we went (IYKYK) We both finally for the burger and while we enjoyed it, don't think is in top three burgers, so maybe it was too overhyped to me. Did add the egg and likes the crispy pieces for texture. Definitely needed something. The old fashioned were nice and also enjoyed the so chill. Definitely be back to sit in their patio area while the weather is still nice. read more
My goal is to try 50 new Chicago restaurants in 2025! Restaurant: 14/50 Month tried: February Favorite dish: crispy chili cauliflower, mentaiko kimchi udon Mott Street yessssss living up to the hype!! And we didn't even get to try the burger since we came after 7pm!! Came with a group of 4 and shared 9 or 10 dishes. There was nothing we didn't like. I don't eat beef or pork so that limited me personally, but I loooved the wings, udon noodles, cauliflower, and hamachi. It's definitely small and loud in there, but the servers are polite and upbeat and the bartender gave us a shot of something out of a dragon pitcher. I neeeed to come back for lunch. I love that they offer a jackfruit version of the burger, so I want to try it! read more

Amazing dinner. We found this place when we were visiting. It is small and intimate perfect for a date or to catch up with friends. Every dish was seasoned, cooked and flavored beautifully. Nice use of Asian flavors and ingredients for a delicious fusion menu. Highlights were the butterfish, Brussels sprouts and pork belly. We were absolutely stuffed and had no room for dessert. Cute place with great food! Mott St is great- food was delicious and the vibes were spot on, and while we sat inside the outdoor area looked like a great summer option. The only real drawbacks were that our two food items came out at very different times. Veggies came out first and the burger took another 30ish minutes- totally get things not coming together but the gap was a bit much. The burger also- while incredible- is quite pricey at $25. Overall a great spot to check out for delish Asian flavors and a killer burger. read more

First off-- the Mott Burger was absolutely delicious!!! The miso butter onions w the pickles and sweet potato crispy straws were perfection. The kimchi fried rice was really good & awesome left over too! The three layer dip was good but don't necessarily think it's a "must get". Cozy vibes inside & very cute patio that I will be back for! Wow! This was such an unexpected gem. I just drove my friend to Chicago who is moving back from New Orleans and our other friend who moved here 2 years ago got the 3 of us a reservation. We were pretty spent that evening so when we saw a chef's menu that made the food decisions for us we immediately put the menus down so we could spend our time catching up. We were aware the chef's menu was made to be shared by 4 ppl, and we were only 3, but we were fine with leftovers, and fancied ourselves healthy eaters... We had no idea what we were getting into. I won't try to describe each dish because who has that kind of time, but I will say all the flavors were distinct and interesting. Highlights for me included the cooling tzatziki paired with the sticky, sweet, and spicy wings, the tiny crunches of the roe that dotted the kimchee udon, the combo of the fresh mint and fish sauce for the imperial rolls served with lettuce wraps, and the umami-filled tiny shrimp and thai chilies in the papaya salad. I'm glad they didn't call this a tasting menu, because each dish was very generously sized, and yet there's not one dish that I would have skipped if I had the option. Our server, Riley, was attentive but chill, not rushing us even though we were certainly close to the last people on the patio. The bottle of wine we got (which I forgot to photograph and am kicking myself for missing) was light and fresh and balanced well with the food. The patio itself was intimate, and not super loud despite how many people were out there when we arrived. We packed up so many to go boxes and 2 days later, the leftovers are still so satisfying to the palate. This should be on your list if you like interesting and inventive Asian cuisine. And if you have 4 people, the chef's menu is very reasonably priced, we were pleasantly surprised spliting it just 3 ways. I will definitely be back! read more

Finally got to try this place out on a beautiful Sunday early evening and sat outside!!!! We shared everything which included the Imperial rolls, garlic rice, the burger, and the Everything shrimp noodles!!!! The garlic rice the burgers and the noodles were amazing and I would definitely go back! A little tip if you go super early, you can get in right away otherwise..... Their seating inside is very small. read more
