We went to Brasero tonight to celebrate my pre birthday tonight and wow, what an amazing meal. I hadn't even heard of Brasero until today and now I can't wait to be back. The restaurant itself if lively yet romantic for date night but non descript from the outside. It's a Brazilian inspired menu since the chef spent time in Brazil and there is a lot of seafood on the menu. We sat at the bar and the HH menu was still on so we tried the grilled oysters, head on shrimp, crispy papas and their signature 'noodle' dish. Everything was amazing and we can't wait to get back and try the branzino. Our bartender Abraham was so nice since he got us seats at the bar, gave us some background on the chef, made excellent recommendations including the Noodles and got us some Guava/Lychee gelato on the house. Stopped in last night after securing a coveted restaurant week reservation thanks to OpenTable Gold status for 6 of us to celebrate our dear friend's birthday. The vibe and service were top notch all night. Everyone had an excellent time, our server was stellar, ordered a drink and we blinked and she was back. The restaurant is beautiful and we loved being able to peak at the open kitchen and watch them rocking that grill. Food: Restaurant week 4 course menu: (1) Hamachi, I literally drank the remaining aguachile yuzu oil happiness that was in the bowl. Pro tip don't be shy, take a sip or bring a straw. It's bright so flavorful. You don't want to leave a drop behind. The fish is lovely too - fresh, light, great temp. (2) fried chicken, banging with crunch, crispy, juicy chicken. The ranch is a lovely a complement. The chicken doesn't need it but it's nice to have. (3) waygu, the char, the temp, the Smokey flavor. 10/10. There was a collective mmmmmmm as we all took the first bite. The mash, super creamy paired really well with the steak. Staff were super friendly and helpful and marked on the menu which dishes could be made without certain ingredients for allergies (one of my friends is gluten free and the other has a sesame allergy, and we were able to share most dishes!). One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The restaurant is beautiful and space inside is huge. We were seated right away and opted for the Leap of Faith $115 version, which is basically them bringing you everything on the menu. Hands down my favorite spot off Chicago Ave. The interior is beautiful and the service is always on point. Everything I have ever eaten here has been delicious. This time I had the peanut chicken which was great, next time I would ask for sauce on the side though as it was smothered a tad too much for me. The sides that are my favorite right now are broccoli rabe and cheesy potatoes. They had a giant street sign advertising happy hour but when we sat down for an early reservation they said those deals are only for people sitting at the bar which was a tad disappointing. End your meal with a dessert, you won't regret it as they are all good. **extremely delayed restaurant week review** Course 1: Pao de quejo bite was delicious but was a little chewy Course 2: honestly the kale salad was so yummy! The fried chicken, to my surprise, was VERY good. The crunch on the chicken was perfect Course 3: the wagyu pincha was unreal. The smokey flavor on it and the cook on the meat was perfect. The veggie noodle stir fry was a hit for our vegetarian friend. The sauteed salmon was good but not a huge standout. Course 4: the chocolate cake and seasonal sorbet were both super yummy! Our second time there and Brasero doesn't disappoint. Just a fun and lively space to grab a meal in West Town. The dining room is warm and welcoming with wood tones. Service is quick with our water glasses always filled and our server flitting between the tables. The menu is setup with several shareable dishes (both hot and cold) along with plates and meats grilled over an open fire. We shared a few dishes-kale, hamachi aquachile, pao de quiejo (always a fun bite), and steak and frites. Everything was delicious and a perfect amount for the two of us. Love that they cook over an open fire and the steak had a great smokey taste as a result. One slight negative would be the steak was cooked a smidge below the requested medium rare. So this place is incredible. It immediately gets 5 stars for value alone. Why? Well we did their $120 price fixed menu and this is what we got. Course 1 Pro de queijo - served warm. Cheese was a bit firm. The jam and cheese were excellent. Hamachi aquachile - one of my favorite bites of the night, fish and apple never tasted so good. Course 3 - ACTUAL DINNER 22 oz bone in ribeye - well cooked seasoned well and came with lovely dips though it didn't need it. Whole branzino - mild fish in an insane sauce. Couldn't get enough of this dish. Braised pork shank - in a stew with beans. Tasted like there were dozens of spices in this thing really excellent. Sweet Potato - this is the single best thing on the menu. You may want to get another one (or two) as it is that good. They just do incredible things to this. Dessert: Chocolate cake - dense cake with coconut and hazelnut that was fine. Passion fruit semifredo - guava jam and passion fruit are an incredible combo here. I only have good things to say about Brasero. I'm always looking for a "wow" factor when trying new restaurants, and Brasero delivered exactly that. To start, we had the pão de queijo -- cheesy, puffed bread balls served with a cream and jam on the side. A very comforting and easy appetizer. I went here for a date night, specifically to experience the Branzino. My girlfriend and I started out with a couple of recommendations from our waiter, who was attentive and knowledgeable. We tried the Pão de Queijo and Grilled Oysters. The Pão was a unique take on a bread starter, but the Grilled Oysters were an unexpected highlight! I've never had an oyster that melted in my mouth, but this one did just that and the seasoning was superb. Now, the pièce de résistance: the Branzino. The fish was seasoned and grilled to perfection. They present you the whole fish and it's self serve, so it makes for an interactive dinner. Brasero has been on my list of restaurants to try for quite some time, and I have to say it was totally worth the wait. We had originally made the reservation via OpenTable a couple of weeks ago, but sadly, there was a glitch as the restaurant was actually closed on that day. The manager called me the day prior to let me know and was super nice about the situation. He even gave me a gift card for the misunderstanding. We rebooked our reservation and did not regret our experience! The space itself is gorgeous and perfect for date nights and group dinners. Our server was immediately welcoming and it felt like we were catching up with an old friend. He was super helpful in helping us navigate the menu. Grilled oysters: you pay per oyster, but I would consider this a "must have." The pop of citrus with the spice and crunch made for the best flavor and texture profile. Grilled prawn: they were thick, and had a nice spicy sauce. Good overall, but a little mealy in texture at times. Also pay per piece. Hamachi: nicely acidic with the mayo providing the balance. The fish itself was also super fresh and delicious Tuna crudo: of the two raw fish options, this was the "must have" in my opinion. Best combination of flavor profiles. You morph into a different era and location when you walk into Brasero. I felt like I was going into the past from the future and immersing myself in a different perspective. Here are the foods I tried leading up to my favorite, starting with the La Sirena Kale Salad, which needed more toppings; however, it was perfectly dressed. The Scallops are like a burst of flavor in your mouth, then magically they disappear. I felt like the raccoon with the disappearing cotton candy. The Grilled Oysters taste like the garlic butter you dip seafood in, so yes, I strongly suggest them. The Braised Pork Shank is a showstopper, as heads turn as it is brought to its final destination by the waitstaff. The staff was nice enough to bring out a coconut milk ice cream on the house. Happy Hour 5-7pm Tues to Sat. ONLY at the bar. But our server was very nice, he let us order our first round on the HH menu Pao de Queijo ($18)- cheese bread. Comes by truffle butter and jam. I would eat the bread by itself or with the butter, I'd skip the jam Endive Salad ($18)- I would skip this salad. Pains to write this, truly! I was there last night for an 8pm reservation and we arrived about 20 minutes early--immediately they seated us. We were mingling with the support staff who were the highlight of the evening. Those gents were kind, helpful and super welcoming--the excellent service came from them--no questions asked!! The server took a while to get to our table and it was fine, despite it being a later reservation--and it not being too busy. She came to our table and apologized for the delay. At that point, we were ready to order--so we were clear with our waitress that we wanted to place our entire order... The appetizers came almost immediately, and the food was so amazing--my mom ordered a chamomile tea and I had to ask for a refill on her hot water (service). We had a large, hearty order and we were very hungry. After the yummy appetizers there was a significant waiting period, to the point that I had to ask several times for the food. We were told that the delay came from the steak/fries we had ordered. I do not believe that at all, as the tables around us, were getting food and we were just waiting. About 45 minutes later my partner almost wanted to leave, so I told a random waiter that we needed food now--he just looked at me. Luckily, our waitress was aware as she had previously came to the table to re-thank us for our patience. I want to point out that there were other tables with parties of 4--so I questions the delay! The food finally came and the infamous steak was COLD! The shank was good, the fried rice was good, the experience overshadowed our thrill to be there! This was another selection for Restaurant Week 2025 and food-wise, it was an excellent choice. The menu offered a four course dining experience for $60. We went on a Thursday night at 7 p.m., so here was plenty of street parking. The space itself is very dimly light but most restaurants are these days. Since it was just the two of us (me and my BFF #2) we were seated at a two top. We we seated against the window, which was nice and there was a table next to us, not too close, which was cool. I am not a big fan of having tables next to me dining with me as I am there with my person or people to converse. We started out our meal with the Endive Salad for my BFF (Endives, Radicchio, Shaved Fennel, Crouton, Gouda, Nichols Farms Apples, Calimansi Vinaigretté) and the Linguica Slider for me (Pão de Queijo, Linguiça, Chimi Aioli, Tomato Vinaigretté). Both starters were excellent. Given a choice between meat or a salad as a starter, I will always go meat. That said, I tried the salad and it was very fresh and delish. The Calimansi Vinaigretté was crazy good! I was familiar with Calimansi as a fruit from some Filipino friends, but never thought about it as a vinaigretté. The sweet and sour flavors of this fruit are hard to describe but I would say it is like eating a lemon, an orange, and a lime all at the same time. The Linguica Slider was crazy good! The Pão de Queijo is a Brazilian cheese bread and that was nuts! I loved the flavor and the texture. Linguiça is a Portuguese sausage made from pork and seasoned with onion, garlic, paprika and other spices. First time having it and definitely will not be the last. The combination of the bread and sausage was just divine, and the pairing of the Chimi Aioli, Tomato Vinaigretté really brought the dish to together. For our second course, we both got the Brazilian Fried Chicken (Okra, Chiles, Pickled Pepper Aioli). The use of dark meat just heighten the flavor of this dish. The chicken was not only seasoned and cooked all the way through, the skin was fried very nicely. For our third course we both got the Braised Short Rib with Feijoada Risotto, Apple and Herb Salad. This dish came out with a side of what looked like au jus or something, not sure what it was, but it was good I thought the addition of black beans to the risotto was genius and for me, there was just the right amount of fat on the short rib. I would definitely try not to order this again just so I could try something new, but it would be hard. For our fourth course, my BFF got a sorbet that was fresh tasting and I got the Chocolate Banana Budino. I am not a fan of banana flavor at all, except in its natural form, but figured I would give this a try. Honestly I enjoyed it because I did not detect an overwhelming banana flavor, it was subtle. So you may be wondering why I am giving three stars. Several things happened during the meal that resulted in this rating: 1. It took a while before someone came over to bring us water and to take our drink order. 2. Once we got our drinks, our server disappeared for bit. We looked around to see where he was and eventually I saw him standing at the bar in conversation with a diner. Eventually he did look up and came over to take the order. 3. Someone else's order was brought to our table, the pan-seared salmon and an order of short ribs. Not sure who's food it was, but we got it first. 4. Couple of mix-ups with dish placements, which was quickly rectified as it took the servers to simply switch the dishes for me and my BFF The meal itself was a hit and I would definitely come back here to dine again as The Chef did that thing for us that night. We stopped into Brasero after hearing great things and it just happened to be west town restaurant week. Space was intimate but surprisingly large inside. Great spot to have a unique meal while also enjoying conversation amongst friends. We had the restaurant week menu but added a few sides off the regular menu to try. There are certain items that you can opt for smaller portions just to try many items off the menu so recommend you ask your server! Everything was fantastic. Presentation was above and beyond on all dishes. This feels like a 5-star experience. Flavors melded very well. A standout was the short rib with saffron risotto, Verde sauce, and chili oil. The flavors worked so well together and blew my mind - spicy from the oil, hearty and savory from the meat, and a bit of umami/richness from the risotto. The saffron was such a great touch too. Dinner at Brasero did NOT miss... it's my first time in Chicago and I found this rec from a girl on TikTok who said her parents own a restaurant in Chicago and she gave some under the radar recs and went here for her bday dinner! Started with the Pão de Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) topped with prosciutto that was warm, springy, and totally worth it. I went for the Blue Margarita (which gave AMF USC with the blue curacao vibes but smoother and is good if you want a stronger drink) and honestly, all the cocktails hit Bikini mule is the perfect fun drink to have at dinner though and their new pepino peligroso is a great mezcal drink with cucumber, aloe liqueur, lime and soda! For those who love an old fashioned, their twist is soo yum with tiki bitters and coffee demerara For starters: Grilled Oysters and Grilled Prawns both fresh, flavorful, fun. Then we went in on the Brazilian Fried Chicken (in that cute box), crispy, juicy, and fun to share. For mains (family-style sharing): - Braised Pork Shank - tender, fall-apart, with rich sauce. - Moqueca-Style Seafood Noodles (creamy style, loaded with prawns & scallops) - so good. - Whole Grilled Chicken "à la Brasa" - solid comfort share. Sides that you must order: - Coal-Roasted Sweet Potato (with catupiry cheese & hot honey) - showstopper and they use a blow torch on it. - Crispy papas - smashed and fried fingerling potatoes with Aji Amarillo Aioli, Tillamook Sharp Cheddar, Pickled Onions and Peppers - The Paulista Pork Fried Rice came with pork belly and was pure flavor. Dessert was out of this world: - Seasonal sorbet (four fruity flavors: pineapple, mango & more) - light and refreshing. - Coconut Soft Serve - HIGHLY RECOMMEND ...melt in your mouth good and mix with the chocolate cake that's also a mustttt - Chocolate Cake with Praline Glaze (they pour the glaze over it) paired with the soft serve - decadent and dreamy. Overall: 10/10 experience inventive shots, shareable plates, cozy atmosphere, and everything just hits. Perfect spot for a night out and sharing a little bit of everything. Stopped in for a late brunch. Chicken and waffles was so good. SO good. The chicken wasn't just perfectly crispy, it was perfectly flavorful from the crust to the meat, and I would have eaten a whole plate of that alone, but with the cheesy, crunchy waffle and the fried onions and bits and the yuzu syrup, it really hit the spot. Service was phenomenal--my water glass was always full, someone was always checking on me, but not in a way that was obtrusive or annoying. Definitely going to come back for dinner! read more

The ambiance and service were just stellar. We had the ribeye, crudo, ceviche, oysters, sweet potato, and fried chicken. I also had the lemonade. Overall every dish was great, hearty yet thoughtful but the ribeye was incredible. One of the best I've had in a long time. The yuca fries were rich and made the dish really complete. Just got back from date night here, and wowwwww. We ordered three dishes and they were anything but boring/average! Pão de queijo: 4 cheese bread balls with apple butter and truffle butter on the side. This is not your everyday bread and butter!! The texture of the bread was sooo different. Tearing each piece off, it reminded me almost of Japanese mochi and texture was chewy yet airy. You really can't go wrong with truffle butter, and while I was hesitant to put what looked like apple sauce on the bread, it was a great balance of flavor. Coal roasted sweet potato: $25 for a sweet potato might make you think twice, but this side was a freaking fantastic harmony of flavors and textures you wouldn't expect to be on a simple vegetable. I could tell that each part was intentional instead of being too "busy" for the sake of looking pretty. Braised pork shank: I'm glad that we didn't order anything else or get one main per person because this was HUGE. Not only a big serving, but also so visually appealing as soon as it arrived on the table! You have the tender fall-off-the-bone pork shank over a bit of flavorful risotto, crispy juicy pork belly slices, and garlicky greens on the side. I've had pork shank before, but it tends to run on the extra dry side, so this was a pleasant surprise! 10/10 would come back again! read more
