This is conveniently located near the museums and had a reputation for good food. However heavily salting gem lettuce is definitely not tasty and was way overpowering. All the food here is way too salty. We were a party of six and ordered gem lettuce salads and m the liver. For entrees we ordered the lemon pasta, the signature chicken and the pork chops. Everything was salted so heavily you could not enjoy the meal. Drinks are fine. Water and a small complimentary appetizer of olives are served with your meal. All in all a meh meal. Service was good and parking is a breeze with a valet in charge of looking after your cars. And at the end you'll be charged for gratuity according to their discretion. If you like all this then do go. However keep in mind -There are so many other wonderful food experiences in PHX that will delight you more than Tratto. read more

I loved Tratto! My partner made a reservation for our anniversary dinner and it was worth the wait. I loved everything. We ate every bite, drank every drop, and licked every plate. The ambience feels special but not fussy. Our waiter was friendly and she gave us perfect advice throughout the meal without any of the haughty attitude that is frequently dished up alongside food this good. Quite possibly the best meal my husband and I have had in Phoenix in our year and a half of living here. Almost a $300 meal and worth every penny. We came for Valentine's Day dinner and as soon as we opened the door, we said "whoa" because the inside is so chic and charming. We got complimentary bread and olive oil, along with olives, cheese, and pickled carrots. My husband ordered a cocktail and a red wine, which he said were pretty good. Our waiter, Max, who was really professional and on top of things, told us how it's family-style, and that generally, people order one item from each category and share everything. No problem with us! We ordered: beet salad cacio o pepe (off the menu) farinata ribeye eggplant lemon olive oil cake Espresso Latte Everything was bomb. The pasta was New York-level. We both moaned when we tried the pasta dishes. The ribeye dinner is a huge portion and is enough for two people. Seriously, even the cabbage that comes with the ribeye was delicious. This place left me saying WOW. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. The food, service and ambiance were all great. The area is not the best, but flavors of this restaurant transport you elsewhere. We can for Valentine's Day and it was our first time but definitely not the last. Not super high end, so feel free to dress casually or dress up. The menu itself is quite small, but I think that really reflects the time and passion put into each dish. We started with the beet antipasti which was delicious. The vinegary beets were complemented by a creamy goat milk sauce and fresh basil and cheese. A lighter option, but savory. We then shared the Cacio e Pepe. This was an off menu item that came highly recommended from our server. It did not disappoint. Creamy, savory, and rich with a hint or earthy and spice from the pepper. What stood out about this one was the pasta. Obviously handmade and perfectly Al dente. Had a nice bite but was not chewy. I love that you could actually taste the pasta itself. Finally, our entrees. I got the cioppino and my boyfriend the ribeye. Mine was outstanding. It was a special though, so it might not be there when you go. Plenty of seafood and rich flavor full of umami. Like I could not get over how delicious and fresh it was. Only critique is it was a little salty but you hardly notice it because the flavor profile is incredible. Think seafood stew but elevated. The ribeye was good and my boyfriend enjoyed it, but what stood out to me about his was the cabbage that came with it. I never knew cabbage could taste that good. I would get that as it own entree if I could. Portion sizes are fair. I was never left feeling like I wanted more. Not too much or too little, just the perfect size. Overall, I loved it and was thoroughly impressed. This is a must try if you're in the area. It was mostly quiet, and had a nice, moody ambiance that complemented the evening. Delicious food, drinks and service are a few of the characteristics to be found here. We spent 285 (with tip) which is a steal. We have dined at far more expensive restaurants and gotten much less. Let's get down to business, shall we? Two dishes were good - the lamb rigatoni and the lemon torte. Two dishes were bad - the polenta was accompanied by some kind of cheese that smelled and tasted like fish sauce, and the farinata was oily and soggy. Do people actually like that?! One dish was just alright - the chicken had good flavor but for $50 was tiny. And they had only ONE vegetable available! Are you kidding me? There were only two on the menu and they were out of one. They only had succotash! Our waiter didn't ask us how the food was. It was like he knew and didn't want to give us a chance to say it out loud. Slopped our water into our glasses, spilling a bit on the table. We didn't get fresh plates between the farinata and the pasta. Not a high end experience. And in terms of atmosphere, I really didn't enjoy the space or the vibe. It's big and open and white which seems like a conscious design choice to convey modern Italian as opposed to old school, but it doesn't feel classy as much as shabby chic. And you lose any sense of intimacy for your party. The bar and kitchen take up 2/3rds of the space, which makes the dining room not feel like the place to be. This place had some amazing food! We went here for my birthday and the food did not dissapoint. They did have complimentary parking right there whixh was nice since there weren't many places to park. We did have to make reservations far in advance even for a week night so we would reccomend. The service was the most disappointing of the experience. We sat down and given a menu without explanation or asking about the note of us being here to celebrate on our reservation. They had a selection of wine, beer, and cocktails to choose from. We choose two cocktails one being a seasonal spritz that did not dissapoint. The awkward part came next with the menu as it was separated out into courses and we weren't really sure for some time on what was the best way to go about this. I wish they would have explained or asked if we had questions sooner. It is reccomend that you get one of each course to share. There were a few options for each and they all looked really good. There were some off me u items as well. To start we got foccacia with whipped ricotta and honey. That bread was the bread foxcacia I have ever had! I really wish I could take a whole loaf with me. Next we got a Crispy gnocchi. While not Crispy, it was declious and like nothing ever had before. It was as soft as a pillow and covered in a sauce that I actually licked off my plate. For our main we got a bay and lemon chicken that was incredibly moist and delicious to eat. Lastly we ended the night with a decadent chocolate tort. Not to sweet and the perfect amount of chocolate. Underwhelmed. I won't blame my 3 stars solely on the cuisine but the service or should I say lack of ambiance... I booked weeks in advance because I know it's a smaller spot. Upon arrival, we were seated right away (booked 5:30pm due to bringing our youngest child). Someone poured water, no greeting. Server came over, eh, it was like he didn't want to be there - I get it, we all have off days but it wasn't just him. There was only one server who dropped off my birthday dessert and he actually smiled. The rest of them looked as though they were told to be stern looking (like it was part of the job). We weren't told about the specials. If it wasn't for Instagram hosting the menu and specials we would have not known to order the special dessert. I think once upon a time this restaurant was really good and had a name but now we have so many options. I'd say step it up because I can't be the only one wondering why we drove 45 minutes to come here... and the location (not where I first visited them), they are about 5 years ahead of this location. Tratto has been on my list for awhile and I finally got the chance to go after grabbing a last minute reservation on open table. My boyfriend and I started with cocktails and the focaccia, and split a spinach and seasonal vegetable lasagna that was on special, as well as a mezzalune pasta dish, and the pork chops with peaches. We ended with dessert - a popsicle-like rice pudding. For us, that was an absolutely perfect amount of food, though it was so so so good I could've ordered more and stuffed myself past comfort. I was in town for a couple of days and was determined to try out Tratto. I arrived early on a Thursday evening and scored a seat at the beautiful bar. Soaked in the ambience of the space. Really enjoyed talking with the mixologist who provided stellar food and wine recommendations. I love Chris Bianco's story, and of course his food. As a Phoenix native who's been out of state for years, it's very cool to see all of the redevelopment in the downtown area. This location is particularly interesting and I'm so curious what it does to the Van Buren corridor. Go for the food, wine, staff, decor- all was a delightful experience. read more

My husband and I visited Tratto for a postponed 21st anniversary dinner. Reservations are a must as this is a small yet quaint space. Yelpers (and our server) suggested sharing dishes, which was a great idea. First, you'll receive a complimentary plate of olives, cheese, and for the day we went, radishes. Next came the bread and olive oil. The olive oil was maybe the best I've had, served in the cutest little dish! We ordered the salad for our first course: simple greens, parmesan chunks ( just they way I like them!) with a shallot dressing. It was perfect. For our pasta, you may have read that all you have to do is request Cacio E Pepe- cheese and pepper pasta. Soooo good! You won't see it on the menu, but it's always available. Third course: thin cut pork chops in a brown butter sage sauce with roasted peaches. It sounds like a simple dish, but it is succulent and bursting with flavor! We tried the olive oil cake and vanilla pot de crème for dessert, the latter being my favorite. Our server did a great job with the pacing of our meal. Right as you would finish one course, the next was quick to arrive. Dinner was a little expensive, but when you take into account the cute locale, excellent service, fresh ingredients and the artistry it takes to put it all together, I found Tratto to be worth it. read more

When we first arrived to Tratto we were a bit concerned that maybe we got lost! The area was not exactly where I thought Chris Bianco would have his fabulous restaurant. The area reminded me of the Bowery in NYC. The signage was very dated, unlit, and worn, hummmm. They had valet, which was surprising, so we gave him keys and went on in. First impression? Super cool vibe, restored old building. To cut to the chase I have to say Tratto is the best restaurant I have been to in AZ hands down. The service was phenomenal! Our waitress Sha was the upmost professional, warm and engaging. The food, in a word, incredible. The bartender, the real deal with amazing craft cocktails. We were in the other night for dinner. Kind of strange that they still check your temperature when you come in at this stage of the game. The dining room is large and there's a separate bar. The fresh baked bread is excellent and the Chianti classico was very good. The artichoke and asparagus pasta was our favorite dish. We used some of the bread to soak up the extra sauce so it wouldn't go to waste. The thin cut pork chops with apples, sage and brown butter were moist and very flavorful. The family sized portion was so large we were able to take half home for another meal. The only disappointment was the dessert. It was a slice of a strawberry tart that was just so-so. I didn't notice until the bill came that it was $22 which is a crazy price. I also noticed on the menu they purport to carry Helio Basin beer which is funny since that brewery has been closed for months. Time to update the menu? read more

Best focaccia ever. We went to Tratto for our anniversary and were pleased that we were able to get reservations on fairly short notice. We weren't sure what the menu would be, as it changes weekly, but I had in mind what I wanted to try. We started with Italian Spritz cocktails (fantastic) and spied some fantastic-looking focaccia bread at another table. Ordering the focaccia was the best decision of the night... it was soft, flavorful, and served with luscious olive oil. We also ordered the chicken livers, which weren't my favorite, the best cacio e pepe I've ever eaten, pork chops, and polenta with hammered greens. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Tonight I had the swordfish puttanesca with an amazing glass of Pinot noir and the house focaccia bread with whipped ricotta cheese. It was one of the best meals that I've had in a very long time. And I eat at swanky places on the regular. We all owe Chris a great deal of gratitude for the amazing impact that he has on our local food scene. The man is truly an Arizona treasure. read more

Our family of 3 ate here on June 15, 2024. We sauce. They were delicious. Although, the faranata used to be made much better in their previous location of Town n Country, complete with olives. The current venue on Van Buren is definitely more spacious and the vibe is very nice in the rustic brick building. What is distinctly different (alas) is the service and attention. In the old location, the experience was one of attentive fine dining - with silverware changed out after every plate served, complimentary delicious bread and other delights from the kitchen. Now, the experience is of a fancy restaurant but with mediocre service - no plates refreshed, yes we received a delicious complimentary plate of watermelon squares but no bread or other treats; the waiting staff was not of a high caliber - we asked our server some basic  information on the high priced steak we were ordering, but the person did not know; Our server did not know basic information on the pricey steak that we ordered, nor did he alert us on the specials for the day - we discovered it later when we happened to view the blackboard; the wooden trellis next to which we were seated was collecting dust.... Overall, I was happy with the food, but not the fine-dining aspect of it.   Please bring back the caring classy attendance that we were treated to at the old Town n Country location. Dinner at Tratto is always amazing! grabbed some late reservations for myself and my boyfriend for a Thursday night. Service was excellent, and the staff is very knowledgeable about all their menu items, and offered great suggestions. Very attentive as well, making sure we always had everything we needed for each course. Dinner included some complimentary carrot chips, bread, and we had a bottle of wine to share throughout the meal. Shared linguine and cacio e pepe for a second course - still drooling over both of these dishes. For the main we each got the large serving of the chicken and the thin cut pork chops (my favorite!), and shared squash side dish. This way we can take home extras - they really do serve 2 people each! Finished off dinner with some rich chocolate cake, a glass of wine, and an amaro. 5 stars yet again and would highly recommend for an intimate dinner. read more

Someone I really trust told me that he thought Tratto had some of the best food in the Valley, so I knew I had to check it out sooner than later. Let me tell you.....my friend was spot on. Tratto is incredible! The restaurant itself has a warmth to it; almost like you went to grandma's upscale cottage on a farm somewhere. It's just incredibly clean and homey. A wonderful ambiance for a menu that has a similar warmth to it. We decided to get the best experience we'd order 1 dish from every category, and made sure to get the chicken entree, since we knew that was what they were known for. Absolutely everything was stellar! From the bean salad (heavenly, I want this recipe), the pasta special (made fresh that day), chicken (just....WOW!), and the squash side (never knew how much I loved squash) - it was all just magical! Even our drink, the White Negroni, was fresh, light and just perfect. I can honestly say that the only thing that would've made this trip even better was if I was hungry enough to try one of their desserts because they looked phenomenal. This was truly one of my top dining experiences of the year and I cannot wait to come back. :) read more

Been meaning to try Tratto since having been a fan of Pizzeria Bianco. They finally reopened on Van Buren in what I think used to be the Pane Bianco location. It's an elegant and open space. The meal started with a complimentary offering of radish, cheese, and olives. The green salad was simple with beautiful and luscious leaves of lettuce with delicious cheese shavings and a wonderful roasted shallot dressing. The lamb ragu pasta had bold and complex flavors - something that I've come to expect each time I eat pasta at a Bianco restaurant. Definitely not your spaghetti and meatballs or chicken alfredo kind of fare. This dish was 5 stars all the way. The miss for me, however, was the protein dish. I think the pork chops were over-brined as my first bite was just a salt bomb. That took away from the sage and butter which I was excited about. Between the salt and the extra sweet dates the dish was off-balanced. I'll be back, but between my experiences with meat dishes at Pizzeria Bianco and Tratto I think I'll stick with the salads, pizzas, and pastas. read more

Was excited to try this spot, Saturday reservations are booked out a few weeks so, that initially set the stage for this experience. We're Order the Pasta Caio & Seared Chicken with grapes, yes grapes...like the fruit from Napa type of grape, which takes longer preparation time due to cooking style (No Biggie). But...The Pepe Cioa (pasta) can out first, then we ate that and 30 minutes later the chicken came out. So we are now had chicken and some grapes they cooked it with. As the main course with no contrast or pasta to complement the dish. Unfortunately being a new restaurant the kinks have not been worked out and the menu is lacking balance and options. The servings are large and don't accommodate parties of two. The sides are $18 and served family style, which is fine, but how much zucchini can two people eat? The menu is limited and not in a fun way. I like the initial go around at this concept, it needs to be tweak and most probably will be as he is what I consider a real chef I expect this menu will evolve into a more well rounded experience. read more
