Rice combo with roasted pork, cha siu, and duck
Kaylin P.

In terms of food in the SLU area, it's a 4 star. But really it's closer to a 3 star if comparing food to its sister store in Tacoma (which in my opinion is a lot better). This does have more seating and more spacious/modern interior. Checking in was quite unorganized. Theres a list to put your name down but no one came by to check on it for 15 minutes. I got the rice combo with 3 types of meats. Portions seemed smaller than Tacoma location. Roasted pork was nice and crispy and not too salty. I was expecting duck slices and not the leg, which is my least favorite part and it was so extremely dry without much meat on it. If you buy the meat by the pound, I think the prices are pretty comparable or even cheaper than Chinatown which is nice. Hopefully the organization improves with time.

Came here after a workout and was pleasantly surprised. Seattle can be hit or miss when it comes to Vietnamese food, but this spot delivered I ordered the duck and rice plate. The duck was juicy, flavorful, and cooked really well without being overly seasoned. The mustard greens helped balance out the richness of the meat, and the soup on the side tied everything together nicely Service was great too. My water was refilled without having to ask, and the staff checked in regularly throughout the meal My only suggestion would be to add a few more vegetarian or vegan options to the menu. Other than that, I had a great experience and would definitely come back with friends

I am so happy they opened this Seattle outpost for the Tho Tuong BBQ! The South Lake Union location is definitely different than the orginial hard scrabble Lincoln International district location in Tacoma! The menu at Tho South Lake Union is a little smaller (no pig stomach or chicken feet) than the Tacoma location but the heavy rotation items are still there. Crispy pork belly, bbq pork (char siu) and roast duck are as delicious as i remember. I am always a bit indecisive so usually go for the combo meat (roast duck, crispy pork belly and bbq pork) with rice. All meat orders come with a sweet and savory dipping sauce which should not be skipped! Pickled veg is a nice contrast to the rich meats and the clear consume complimentary with each meal is so comforting. You can also super size your meal by adding extra meat for another $10. Staff is very friendly! I think locals are still sleeping on this place and most of their volume seems to be the lunch rush from all the Amazon employees. Get there before they run out of meats for the day!

So excited to finally have a Tho Tuong BBQ location in Seattle! The crispy pork belly (heo quay) has the perfect crunch, and the char siu is incredibly tender and flavorful. The space is modern and clean. Great portions, fast service, and a much-needed addition to South Lake Union. I'll definitely be a regular here

1/2 roast duck and banh hoi with BBQ pork (photo was taken after we had already eaten some of the meat and noodles)

TL;DR incredible barbequed meats Went during soft opening and ordered half a roast duck and the banh hoi with char siu BBQ pork as the meat option. The duck was roasted to perfection and paired with a rich and savory sauce. The char siu was SO insanely good, that I ate a sizable amount even though I don't usually like pork. My friend and I both enjoyed our meal and plan to come back to try more of their menu. This is a rare gem in South Lake Union, and if I lived in the neighborhood, I would probably eat here several times a week. Huge kudos to this restaurant for being uncompromising when it comes to both authenticity and flavor! Note: there is no dedicated parking, but street parking was easy to find on a Saturday. Worst case scenario, you could probably park in the Amazon Arizona garage (5 mins walk) which is free on weekday evenings and weekends.

NOTE: this review is for their soft opening as of 5/23/26, so current experience here may not reflect an accurate one after their grand opening on 6/1/26. This Viet BBQ place first opened in Tacoma to rave reviews, and my recent IG feeds have gotten pretty excited that it's finally made it to the Greater Seattle area, so I wanted to pay here a visit. I scored free street parking after 6pm near Thomas St where this place is located in South Lake Union, just opposite Cafe Hagen. Interior feels dull and unfinished, and there's not much going on besides the fancy lights above the ceiling and the appropriately lit-up kitchen area where you can see some of the meats hanging behind glass with lights, like what you'd expect from similar places in Chinatown. Throughout this visit, staff reminded me and all other customers that they were out of chicken, duck, and bao buns; they even ran out of everything 7 minutes before their closing time at 7pm and had to turn some guests away! One staff member told me a lunch rush earlier in the day was responsible for the duck being sold out, so that's good to know if you're planning on coming during their soft opening. Staff overall were very attentive with answering questions, refilling water, and asking how I liked the food, and they did so with all other patrons too. I chose the roasted pork rice lunch box as my dish for this visit. This comes with roasted pork, steamed broken rice, pickled mustard greens, jalapenos and a bowl of soup, and was $18 before tax. This looks small but you can get pretty full with everything on here. There's also sauce on the side which I used for my roasted pork, which was crunchy and salty on the skin, and tender and juicy in the middle. Meat cuts are aesthetically pleasing to the eye in presentation, kinda like how other meat parlors in Chinatown organize their boxes when you order their meats. Veggies on the side balanced the saltiness of the meat and the soup. Overall a pretty great place to open up in this area! It is still currently in their soft opening as of this writing, and will have their grand opening on 6/1/26 according to signs on both of their entrances. I actually still prefer the meat places in Chinatown over here mostly because of distance but their meat cuts hit and I'll come back to try their roasted duck when their grand opening comes!

Great place that opened up in Slu which serves viet bbq. The service was a bit slow during lunch but it was their soft opening. The ambiance is nice though and is like a more modern viet restaurant. The portions are nice for lunch so definitely check it out!

They've gotten so busy now that they do it in the back, and if you don't time your visit right, be prepared to wait in a long line. Writing this sucks and also I feel like I'm giving a completely honest and fair review of last night (Friday, June 19, 2026) from 7 to 8:30pm ish. Two hairs - one in my kaisen champon, one in my partner's niku udon. A dead bug in the niku udon. A staff member walking the floor actively bleeding from his nose with a napkin stuffed into it. Any one of these on its own would have been a rough night. All three in the same meal is something else ‍ The kitchen is small and open so you can see and hear everything, which meant we also got a front row seat to the chef yelling at his staff multiple times throughout the evening. The team was clearly working hard and seemed genuinely understaffed, but the kitchen felt like it was coming apart at the seams. We were in line to order for about five minutes, during that time we heard the employee at the register say to the man in front of us that there is no more summer special cold udon flight. Bummer, but totally understand. The menus are acrylic boards at the ordering counter, there were two for the two specials and they were left up when we went to order. The employee told me that unfortunately they have run out of the other special (not the flight). She turned around to do something else for a bit, came back, so I ordered the flight and she said they don't have that either. LOL okay!! No worries! I asked if any of the udon can be made cold? She asked the head chef. He yells back that he has no time for this. Like a good one minute lecture, yelling at the staff. So sorry I made him yell at this poor girl I ordered kaisen champon and my partner ordered the niku udon. We waited for a good 30 mins for our food. Fine we like each other enough to spend time with each other and can clearly see it is chaos in the kitchen. We get our food. We didn't get utensils with our food, and were told "I'll grab utensils for you, sorry about that" So we just sat there waiting for utensils. Food is good but there are hairs and a bug ‍ During our time waiting the water wasn't ever filled (it's self serve) so after our food came I asked for water three times, kept getting "I'll refill it". The chawanmushi showed up 20+ minutes after our food, basically as we were finishing. And they don't have to-go containers, which fine, but worth knowing. I've given this place real chances. Last night felt like a hygiene issue, an understaffed kitchen, and a service breakdown all stacked on top of each other. Usually we go during lunch so maybe that's my recommendation moving forward - I'm giving this place a rest from the rotation for now.

The sayap ayam pedas was a huge portion for just 2 people, but we couldn't stop eating. The combination of soy sauce and fish sauce was not overpowering at all and the chicken itself was so juicy. The chicken curry in the nasi lemak was delicious with the coconut rice. Along with the anchovies, egg, peanuts, and sambal, it was a choose-your-own-adventure kind of bite. The kaya toast was the perfectly sweet dish to balance out all the flavors. I especially loved dipping it in the poached egg for a satisfyingly runny bite. The broth wasn't very salty or over complicated itself with a burst of spices, but highlighted the simplicity of a good ramen, tasting the long simmer of the pork. We walked into a casual, compact space with a mix of counter and table seating that fits the quick ramen shop style. The interior is efficient and well organized, though it can get extremely busy, and the wait times are often one of the biggest parts of the experience, especially during peak hours. Once seated, the space feels functional and comfortable, designed around getting a bowl of ramen in front of you without unnecessary distractions. The ramen is built around rich tonkotsu broth with a lot of customization options. We appreciated the ability to adjust things like noodle firmness, richness, and spice level, which made each bowl feel more personalized. The regular tonkotsu ramen stood out for its deep umami flavor without feeling overly heavy, and the noodles had a great texture that held up well against the broth. The vegan options also stand out, including miso-based bowls with flavorful broths that give non-pork options more depth than many ramen shops offer. The toppings are generous, and the soft-boiled egg was cooked to that perfect jammy consistency. Beyond ramen, the menu has a few sides that complement the meal well, including gyoza that came out crisp and well filled. We also grabbed mochi ice cream for something sweet afterward, a light finish after the rich broth. The seasonal ramen options are worth checking out since they add variety beyond the standard bowls, giving regular visitors a reason to come back and try something new. Service is generally quick and friendly, especially considering how busy the restaurant gets. The ordering system is straightforward, and the staff handles the constant flow of customers efficiently. The team kept the pace moving without making the experience feel rushed, and they were attentive to refilling water and checking in on the table. The biggest downside is the popularity, since the lines can sometimes feel long for a relatively quick meal, but the wait tends to move faster than expected given the efficient turnover. Ramen Danbo is a reliable spot for a satisfying bowl of ramen in Seattle. The customizable bowls, strong broth, and consistent noodle quality make it a place worth visiting, although planning around busy hours can make the experience much better. The balance of customization and quality means you can dial in your bowl exactly how you like it, and the focused approach to the menu keeps the attention where it belongs.

This place is a true gem, serving satisfying, delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere at an affordable price. The restaurant looks small from the front, but space is used efficiently and they manage to fit quite a bit of seating into not that large of a dining room. Tables are mostly four tops, quite spacious at that, and surrounded by sturdy wooden chairs. I came for dinner on a Friday evening and there were a few other tables at any given time. Service was quick and our water never ran empty. We had the wontons in hot oil, topped with peanuts, I had the beef chow fun, and my dinner buddy had the pork with hot sauce noodles. The wontons are very very good, stuffed with flavorful pork and swimming in a sauce that sits in that perfect spot at the intersection of hot and sour. The peanuts and scallions add a delightful crunch. Their beef chow fun satisfies every bit of childhood nostalgia I have for this dish, with lots of wok hei, bouncy noodles, and the most tender of beef. I think my favorite beef chow fun in the city still lives at A+ Hong Kong Kitchen, but this is a close second. The portion here is also huge. I am a human vacuum and I actually brought leftovers home, which is rare for me. The pork with hot sauce noodles is seemingly a fusion of zha jiang mian and dan dan noodles. My friend really enjoyed it and actually finished the whole thing, which is saying something given that she doesn't usually eat that much.
