    Bahn Mi, Signature
    Sarah L.

One of the best Bahn Mi I have had in NYC. Texture of the bread was flakey on the exterior, plushy inside, however not a hard exterior that would scrape the roof of your mouth. Upon ordering at noon on a Wednesday, I was quoted a 10-15 minute wait for a Bahn Mi. Cash only, affordable Bahn Mi selection. Signature Bahn Mi - typical fixings of pickled carrot, daikon, jalapeno, cucumber, cilantro, vietnamese ham fixings, and a ?tomato/ketchup sauce that paired really well everything and made the bahn mi texture more plushy. If you look at the picture, it seems they hollow out some of the bread to allow for more sandwich add ons to perfect the texture, which is definitely appreciated! Of note, no sit down seating available so this is definitely a takeout spot.

#1 House Special Banh Mi 清娜麵包

Thanh Đa is a popular hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese spot for banh mi near 8 Av, Brooklyn. I read many negative reviews about the terrible attitude of the owner, skimpy toppings and how their prices have risen significantly. God knows how nervous I was when I walked into the shop lol. Fortunately I didn't have such poor experience when I went. I was very satisfied with what I got, and the owner and staff weren't rude at all. Just keep in mind they no longer open dine-in area. #1 House Special Banh Mi 清娜麵包 For the house special banh mi, they put together roasted pork, ham, cold cut, pickled carrots and radish and cucumber. The fillings weren't overflowing, but it was sufficient and stuffed till the bottom of the bread roll. The baguette was toasted to a crusty finish on the outside, and a soft dough on the inside. You can ask for jalapeno for extra spice (they forgot to add it to my banh mi tho). $8 for a banh mi is still reasonable to me in this economy, as I can split it into two meals. Banh mi is made to order. It took around 10 mins even I was the only customer in store. *Ca Phe Thanh Ða (Thanh Ða Coffee) 清娜咖啡 This Vietnamese coffee was so pleasant. Dark roasted and rich in caffeine as you can taste from the robust and bold flavor. I asked for less sugar and less ice, and it had the perfect level of sweetness. $5 for the iced coffee is slightly steep but I'll still get this again.

With the limited options for real Vietnamese food on 8th Ave, I'm thankful one of them is Thanh Da. Now, there's this location and there's Little Thanh Da a couple of minutes away. I can only speak for the Banh Mi, which was wonderful and stuffed. It's made to order and they were so nice. There's no seated dining anymore, so if you're going to order I'd make a night of it. Get a bunch of stuff, bring it back home and enjoy.

This place is a rip off. I ordered a seafood noodle soup togo. The soup container was below half way. I ordered soup not big plastic container. I wouldn't waste my money here again !!!

    13. Bun that nuong, grilled pork on lettuce with vermicelli noodles

I was in the area and wanted some Vietnamese food. The grilled pork was delicious. The noodles were a little hard and difficult to eat, But for the price and portion, this is a pretty good option Vietnamese food in Brooklyn. I don't think they are doing indoor dining, but it's worth trying even without being able to indoor dine! The staff are also very kind and are following COVID measures with masks and hand sanitizer available.

Take out restaurant only! Prices listed on Yelp aren't accurate anymore! I tried the Banh Mi Bi sandwich which has shredded pork. Overall, very delicious sandwich with creamy sauce, and makes a great quick meal. Also tried the Suon Bi rice which is pork chop that was well marinated and flavorful. Lastly, tried the Cha Gio Thit Nuon which is grilled pork and spring roll over vermicelli. A decently size portion and delicious as well! Overall, a good take out restaurant with lots of options!

Just picked up my food, and this is my very first bad review about a restaurant in my life since I think there should be zero tolerance towards such a business. First, terrible service and unacceptable manner. The man who, I think, is the owner of this restaurant has a very bad attitude. I called to pick up in Cantonese (he asked me in Cantonese first and they are saying in Cantonese at the kitchen), and he kept thinking I needed to order. The funny thing is I went to the restaurant to order food 15 minutes ago, and he was the one to mark my order. A lady behind stepped in and helped clarify the 'conversation,' and he started to blame my voice like I didn't speak clearly and loud. (Then why the lady can understand me at once and you can't?) I turned to speak in English, and then he understood and put all the fault on me as if I did something tremendously wrong. I've never had this kind of disgusting and terrible restaurant service in my entire life, and thank you for teaching me a lesson. Second, low food quality and high price. The price tag is ambiguous and you can barley see the the price tbh. (ofc you can ask but ready to be yelled at. I think this is one of their business strategy maybe?) I ordered a V/N iced coffee, Grilled Pork Chop on Rice, and a small Vietnamese Spring roll. It's total around $28, and it's not expensive if the foods taste good. I don't really care hoe authentic the foods are as long as they taste good. However, it goes exactly opposite, just like the service. The portion is relatively small compared to that price, the pork chop is so oily and salty. The spring roll is normal, even though it's a little bit overcooked. The coffee is good, and I like it. I still feel so bad after getting such a disgusting service and being blamed with no reason as a customer paid to get my food. I strongly agree with other negative comments below, and I should have considered them before stepping in. This experience is a good lesson. I am neither the first to leave dissatisfaction nor the last one to write such a long bad comment. If you read till this end, thank you, and there are way cheaper and way better options around in this neighborhood. Why take this risk?

    Banh mi sandwich #1

Happen to be around the neighborhood and my husband remember he use to come here to get viet sandwiches in the past. This place is take out only. It is very small. Once we ordered we waited outside. We ordered a total of 4 sandwiches and the wait was about 10 mins. To my surprise the viet sandwich is really good. It is actually ether than any I had before. First off the bread was really crunchy but not dry or hard. It doesn't cut your mouth like other toasted hero bread. The bbq pork was really flavorful with a hint of sweetness. The addition of the deli meat gave the sandwich good texture. The pickled vegetables was also really flavorful. The only thing I picked out was the cilantro because I am not a fan of cilantro. I think the sandwich would have been better spicy with jalapeños but overall great sandwich. We put it in the fridge overnight and re-toasted the bread in a pan and the sandwich was still delicious.

    banh mi #3 (bbq pork)
    Dave D.

I visited Thanh Da for lunch and ordered the #3 banh mi (bbq pork). There is no seating available due to COVID, so it's just take-out only. The staff are friendly enough and the menu is expansive with a lot of variety and fairly inexpensive. Cash only so be sure to bring some with you when you step in. The closest ATM is 2 blocks away. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The baguette was soft and fluffy, and the fillings were perfectly seasoned. The bbq pork was juicy and flavorful, and the pickled vegetables were crunchy and refreshing. I usually expect jalapeno in my banh mi so I was surprised there wasn't any. I'll try to ask for some next time. Overall a great sandwich, fluffy and crispy baguette with flavorful fillings that they don't skimp on. Would recommend to anyone in the area looking for a tasty banh mi.

    Cha Gio- Vietnamese spring roll
    Ben L.

This place was very bare bones, it was very simple decor and straightforward service, the portions were big and the prices were cheap. The food: Cha Gio- Vietnamese spring roll. I typically really love Vietnamese spring rolls but the ones here were just OK. The spring roll had a good crunch but didn't like the soft texture inside of the spring roll, I kinda felt like there was taro inside, which was weird to me. Also, the spring rolls came off really greasy. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=1H3YnVdQjP6rpSI__T0Hcg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Pho Dac Biet- Special big bowl. The pho was pretty good but the flavor of the broth was too mild for me. The sliced beef on top was really tender which was nice since other places usually have chewy raw beef. The tendon was disappointing, it was bland and needed to be more cooked more, nothing worse that chewy tendon. The noodles were so so, didn't love the texture of the noodle and the broth needed to be hotter. Overall, I just a so so bowl of pho. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=IbpesJnfG6lcnU0q-WF36A&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA

The aunties are mentioned often in other reviews, and that's because they're amazing. They'll gladly explain what you need, especially when it comes to the super tasty (and extremely inexpensive) deserts that populate racks and the drink fridges here. Some are sweet, some are sour (the deserts, that is), they'll let you know. Honesty since a cake here is $5, you can afford to try everything! How on to the main reason that you came, the Banh Mi. You literally can't go wrong with any of the eight main sandwiches here. I've tried them all so you don't have to, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. The bread is crispy, the ingredients are super fresh, and the tastes combine perfectly. The decor is perfect for this kind of spot. No frills. There are three tables and a bunch of chairs. It's exactly what I want in a takeout type place. They concentrate on the food. So, to wrap this one up. Go. I'd say that I'll be back, but I've been coming here for years. If you haven't, it's time to start.

The restrooms are conveniently located in the middle of the space. The staff were all efficient and constantly on the move. We had reservations for 2pm, and the restaurant was already packed when we arrived. We only had to wait a few minutes while our table was being cleared. The staff apologized. For drinks, we kept it non-alcoholic and ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee and a lychee fizz. To eat, we shared the papaya salad, rice cake omelette, grilled pork bun bowl, and the wok seared beef pho. Everything we tried was so flavorful and well prepared. One thing to note is that if you're planning to visit on a weekend their banh mi is only available from Friday to Sunday until 6pm. However, we go there on Sunday and ordered around 2:30ish and it was already sold out. So I suggest dining in earlier.

All four dishes were delicious, and I would highly recommend the spring rolls and beef pho. The beef pho broth had deep flavor, and the noodles had a great, chewy texture and were different from the typical pho noodles in Vietnamese restaurants. The pho is also served with their homemade sriracha and hoisin sauce. The beef slices in the pho were a bit dry and overcooked, but I would still recommend you try the pho here; it was delicious. The spring rolls were big and packed with filling. We really enjoyed them! The fish lettuce wrap platter and pork skewer platter were exactly the same with the exception of the protein. The platters come with rice paper wrappers that you dip into water for 30 seconds, lettuce, mint, basil, cilantro, pickled radish and carrot, and cucumbers. The platters were good but also seems like something you can easily make yourself at home. The fish was a bit dry and overcooked, but the pork skewers were well made. Although I really enjoyed the food here, it wasn't special enough for me to want to return to dine here. Service: Service was excellent, and staff were friendly. At 5pm, we were the first party of 2 to arrive, and soon after, three other parties came after us. I'm not sure why the hostess chose to seat all four parties in one small corner of the restaurant while the rest of the restaurant was completely empty. Tables were placed very closely together, and seating was a bit tight. It seemed odd to seat everyone in one corner even when the restaurant was clearly not filling up. Ambiance: The ambiance and decor is lovely here. Seating is very comfortable, and the place is beautiful. It's well-lit and has a nice outdoor garden feel with plenty of sunlight. The restaurant is pretty big with tables for both small and large groups. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant!
