So here I am after an amazing massage with my Buddy David Vargas of Momentum Sports Recovery. I love the vibe as a walk in. It's very hot out so I order a seltzer. The menu is brought and immediately i see the omelette. With mushrooms, goat cheese and beet salad. Wow nice! And it is exactly that. I went to dinner with my family tonight. It was a thoroughly fabulous evening because of the wonderful food we ate. I've had crispy Brussels sprouts in other restaurants but nothing compared with what we were served in Bricolage. I can't wait to have them again. I've been coming here since 2022. It is a very unique place in its atmosphere and twist on the Vietnamese cuisine. They have consistently been welcoming from the host to the servers. The food has consistently been great. The atmosphere is unique with options to eat inside or outside; GO OUTSIDE! The decor has an old skool vibe with such a laid back ambience. Disappointing for what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration for a close friend. Entrees took for what seemed like an eternity to arrive, more than an hour, and then my dish was cold. This is some of the worst Vietnamese food I've had in New York and I don't even think New York has a plethora of amazing Vietnamese food. I got the chicken pho, lobster dumplings and summer roll. I should have known from the dry rice wrapper in the summer roll. Everything was just not good. The pho broth - bad. I love food, a lot. This made me cry. I will be writing about this in my journal. I came with a group, and we got many dishes to share, including: Ceviche, Pho Ga, shaking beef, cumin chicken, and hawker noodles. The beef was super delicious and a great cut -- though the watercress that accompanied it wasn't as well received as was very bitter. We were three people, and I really appreciated how the staff actually served the pho ga dish in three small bowls, with some noodles and spice and chicken in each! Brunch for two on Sunday. It was fairly empty at 11:30am which was nice as we could hear ourselves talk. Later, it started getting pretty noisy to the point we had to start talking much louder. I can't believe I've never written a review about this place. It's definitely one of the top 3 restaurants in Park Slope and definitely one of the best in the city. I've been here several times, and here are some of my favorite things about it: - There are actual mixologists working here, so the cocktails are great. - The back yard area is one of the coolest-decorated places I've seen in the entire city. - The retro TVs in the bathroom make you feel like you're stepping into a time machine - all details are accounted for here. - But most of all, the FOOD. I've also met the chef, Lien Lin, on one visit here, who is from Vietnam, and she is lovely. Came here for brunch this weekend for the first time and of course everything was outstanding. After ten minutes I went in and the waiter was restocking bar. While The busser and food runner were eating food at the line. Granted late in day. We came here on a Friday night and I loved the decor inside. They have a variety of options available from indoors, at the bar, and front outside seating. The staff were really accommodating and attentive. We ended up sitting outside and the decor was really quirky and kinda old timey. For food we shared the cod croquettes, the hawker broad noodles and the crispy brussel sprouts. The croquettes were great but who doesn't love something fried. They came with a saffron garlic aioli, but there were only two croquettes and I wish there more of them. The noodles had a right amount of balance of veggies and protein. Walked in randomly and sat in the back outdoor covered patio area. It reminded me of Stranger Things and the lab from the movie Back to the Future - retro with random TVs. Very untraditional, interesting and surprisingly comfy. Service is fast, and friendly. Music is very chill and funky. Perfect mood and volume for a random Sunday (I find music is so important for your dining experience). I came here with a group on a Sunday night and was overall disappointed. Let's start with the food. Food was disappointing all around especially for how high everything costs. The beef pho was the worst bowl of pho I have ever had in my life. The beef did not taste or have the texture of brisket but instead resembled a questionable meatloaf. Even the grilled chicken and rice on the kids menu had a strange sour flavor. Pork belly buns were okay but by far worth the $21. Next, service was off. It was a Sunday night and not that busy so even more surprising by the disorganization. My friend had to ask and keep reminding the server to bring out her glass of wine 5 times. By the time her wine came out, we were close to finishing our meal. The best part of this place was the atmosphere which is really what you are paying for. The dining room offers a cozy vibe but I highly recommend booking for the enclosed backyard patio, which is heated in the winter and is extremely visually interesting. The unshaking beef is one of my favorite dishes and a must get! The papaya salad is always a hit and is a very large shareable portion. The duck is cooked very well and I love the kabocha squash purée which has a much tackier texture than mashed potato. We also got the congee special of the night and I loved how gingery it was, which complemented the succulent pieces of pork belly. I would skip the garlic noodles (I think it tastes more like an "Asian" dish at a non-Asian restaurant) and instead, get the Hawker broad noodles, which has more complex flavors! read more

We sat in the back patio where we were able to admire the rustic décor of clocks, TVs, and lamps all along the walls. We ordered the: Five Spiced Fried Chicken & Waffles ($24) - Included a flatter fried dark meat chicken on top of a waffle, with a side of sriracha butter and maple syrup. The chicken wasn't dry, and it paired very well with the sriracha butter. Coconut Milk French Toast ($22) - Included homemade brioche, cinnamon coconut milk, fresh fruit (apple slices, grapefruit, strawberry), candied pecans, and a side of syrup. So fluffy and delicious. House Made Five Spice Apple Cider ($7) - We ordered the hot version, and you can taste the additional spices inside compared to regular apple cider. It is a little pricy, but they did a great job incorporating Vietnamese and French style into their dishes. We don't come to Brooklyn often but wouldn't mind returning in the future. read more

I'm starting to think it's extremely difficult to uncover $$$ restaurants that could actually be worth the splurge. Bricolage was unfortunately not an exception. The place was such a vibe, especially at night, with a dimly lit ambiance. The menu, through their QR code, was one long scroll. I wish them and more places would have more visuals in their menu to aid the indecisive in deciding. With the appetizers costing just as much as a main, I settled on the Spicy Garlic Noodles ($27) with Marinated Flank Steak (+$8). "Spicy Garlic Noodles" should really be called "Salty Garlic Noodles". I took only a couple bites, and already started feeling uncomfortable from the high sodium. Something in my body was burning. Parts of the noodles tasted uncooked too, a harder to bite texture. The onions were also HUGE pieces, juxtaposed to the thinly sliced up carrots. The only saving grace was the flank steak, which was soft, not too chewy, and fortunately not as salty as the noodles. These noodle dishes, you can find better elsewhere without losing that arm and leg. And without an uncomfortable feeling afterwards. Had a delicious dinner with a friend on a cold Friday night. I forgot our server's name but she was the sweetest and most attentive person ever!! She had awesome recommendations for cocktails and entrees. We had the papaya salad, spicy garlic noodles with pork, and imperial rolls. Although this restaurant is categorized under Vietnamese with a French twist, I think it's more so classic Vietnamese dishes with a few French dishes on the menu. A few items are a bit overpriced for what they are (why are 2 imperial rolls more than $10???), but servings are pretty generous and flavors are great! Each time I dine here, I'm impressed by their professionalism, cleanliness, and ambiance through Miro's, one of the owner's art. The dishes ordered were the pork belly buns ($21), pho ga ($24), and the spicy garlic noodles ($27). Nothing gave me the wow feeling here. Surprising since I read the owner is Vietnamese. You subvert the classics yet the subversion created something where it didn't fully commit to either being fusion or being true to the roots. One ends up being stuck in a limbo where your identity is not pronounced. The pork belly buns were decent though I got a huge piece of fat in one of the buns. The spicy garlic noodles were very udon based which is not usually what I would predict would be used in spicy garlic noodles. Would maybe come back casually, but not in a huge rush tbh. read more

OH. MY. GOD. If you are not making the trip to eat at Bricolage while in Brooklyn, you are truly missing out on some AMAZING Southeast Asian barbecue. When I say Bricolage drops it like it's hot, ohhhhh boy, you better believe that plate is going to be sizzling with flavor! I went to meet up with a friend I haven't seen in a while last night & he chose this spot after checking out the menu. I trust his taste so I said, okay, let's do it! And we've got nooooo regrets. First off, the menu looked so darn good, we had so much trouble narrowing it down. I kid you not. And Bricolage did not make it easy because they had a huge selection of meats - duck, lamb, ribs, chicken, pork chops; you name it, they've got it! After making the difficult decision of finalizing our dishes, we were ready to feast. The staff was on point with timing - drinks came quick & food followed shortly after. Snap snaps for the chefs! Now let's talk about the food. The pork belly buns were like crack. I'm not a fan of fat in pork belly but let me tell you, the pork belly was charred and marinated so well, the meat just melted in my mouth. I have to say it's probably top 5 pork belly buns I've had. We had the ribs as our other appetizer & dude, it was doused in amazing marinade. Plus it was so easy to separate from the bone. The spicy garlic noodles were some of the best I've tasted; you definitely will get some heat from the hot peppers and you could tell the noodles were fresh because they were so smooth & chewy. Bricolage didn't use traditional egg noodles for this dish; instead they changed up the game by using rice noodles that were a little thicker than vermicelli. Needless to say, our bellies were happily satisfied. We were super pleased with the service that we received as well. Hate to be the party pooper but I came last night after a friend (and other Yelp reviews) hyped it up and was really disappointed. Maybe they were having an off night? Ordered the lobster crepe. It was good/okay but didn't blow me away. Underwhelming is the right word. The bits of lobster were tender and well cooked but the flavors didn't knock my socks off. Didn't taste or see any corn which I was hoping to get bits of. Probably would try the papaya salad next time instead. Also ordered the beef pho. The broth was pretty lackluster compared to the also highly rated Vietnamese spots near my apartment. We sat outside and the pho immediately cooled off so perhaps that's why? Maybe it had to be hot to appreciate the flavors in the broth? I'm really reaching here guys. As for the carpaccio beef, the broth wasn't hot enough to cook it so it was super rubbery and I spit it into my napkin. So sad about this because I came in so excited to love Bricolage! As far as ambiance, it's gorgeous. They did a nice job with their outside tables. Heaters above almost every table and it's decorated beautifully. For service, the waiter looked tired. And a bit annoyed. Which I can appreciate as a long time bartender (I tip 20% no matter if the service sucks or not). We ordered the lobster crepe to start and 15 mins later dumplings showed up. No biggie, he put in the wrong app. Had to wait another 10+ mins for the correct lobster crepe to come. It happens. Another gripe I have is that my friend has been here several times and orders the pho to split. They said they could do it for us and when it came there was just another bowl. Did they expect us to use chopsticks to scoop up the broth? Maybe just a prep or kitchen error and forgot to give us a ladle. I feel bad because every restaurant has an off night so giving it 3 stars instead of 2 stars. But the food and the service were both off last night which doesn't give the best experience. read more
