A nice restaurant, that's maybe a little bit on the pricier end. The owner is so friendly and sweet and the service is very warm accommodating. Being in Park Slope it's very kid friendly. We've come a handful of times, typically during the pasta Tuesday deal and during brunch. Brunch can be very crowded which does show it's well loved. Despite only just noticing their oven for pizza, I've actually never gotten pizza from here. Described as an Italian restaurant it definitely leans more Americana to me.

Such a lovely spot tucked into one of the nicest areas of Brooklyn -- surrounded by tons of charming little restaurants and quaint shops that make it perfect for a casual night out or date night stroll. I stopped in for dinner and everything was excellent. The happy hour deal is definitely worth checking out! I had the bolognese, and it was so good -- flavorful, perfectly cooked, and that ideal al dente texture. I started with the burrata appetizer, which was the perfect beginning, and paired everything with a lemon drop martini that was beautifully balanced and refreshing. The vibe is welcoming, the staff is friendly and they have good bathrooms! I'll absolutely be coming back!

We booked a table for 2 an hour before dinner and were able to get a low top table. It was crowded which was a good sign. All the food looked good at neighboring tables. It was loud, so somewhat hard to hear and not too dark. We ordered prosciutto arugula pizza and tricolor pasta and chocolate flan with orange sauce. The service was really attentive. Parking on street.

I've been living on Staten Island for 30 years and when it comes to Italian food I can tell the story. Black oak on 5th is an Italian Restaurant designed for south slope yuppies who don't know the real. I placed an order of parpadelle bolognese and a side of pinza, the pinza took 10 minutes to table and I got the parpadelle bolognese at 9:34pm...WOW. The pinza tasted like olive oil on pita bread, it gave me a craving for hummus but the big let down was the parpadelle that had the texture of marshmallows and the bolognese that was a complete let down with no flavor, just imagine someone separating chef boyardee gravy from the pasta and there you have Black oak's bolognese...very sad! I was trying this place out to bring my family here on Saturday and I'm glad I did this place was a big failure. The waitress was generic at best but she was the only waitress there even on a Monday. This place is a horror movie but those park/south sloper's will eat anything as long as it voted for Kamala Harris

This place was clutch. We had the sausage pizza with honey to share, a steak wrap and steak and eggs. All were delicious! The mimosas were good each with just a hint of your flavor of choice. I'd pass on the sangria next time. The service was pretty good they provided us with a high chair. I'd definitely come back to try the pasta.

I came here for brunch with high hopes and a growling stomach. The service was excellent--attentive, warm, and genuinely kind--but the food felt like a missed opportunity wrapped in marinara. I ordered the Eggs in Purgatory, which looked like it wanted to be shakshuka's Italian cousin but forgot to bring the flavor profile. The sauce lacked depth, the egg was fine but unremarkable, and the whole dish landed somewhere between "comfort food" and "well, that's... food." The side of crostini was serviceable, though it didn't really help elevate the dish. Now, credit where it's due: the Bloody Marys were killer--spicy, bold, and honestly the highlight of the meal. If I come back, it'll be for the drinks and the friendly staff, not the food. I wanted to love this place. I gave it a real shot. But when the best part of brunch is your drink and your waiter, that's telling. If you're in the neighborhood and thirsty? Sure. Hungry? Maybe look elsewhere.

A great restaurant in a really nice area of Brooklyn. I picked this place because I had a book event I was attending right down the street. My cousin and I met here and sat together at the bar. The staff is friendly and welcomed us as soon as we walked in. The bartender was great and we had a nice conversation with her. For a starter we ordered the Frito Misto which consisted of calamari, shrimp, and zucchini fried in a tempura batter. Tempura is one of my favorite batters and this starter was cooked perfectly. Very large shrimp was the highlight. Then my cousin and I shared the diavola pizza and Black Oak's burger. WOW! both were cooked perfectly. The pizza description mentioned it would be on spicy side but it wasn't too much. The burger was huge! I really loved all the food. I had no complaints with anything. It was such a nice time catching up with family while sitting at the bar. I would highly recommend when visiting the area.

Cute restaurant, staff very friendly and efficient! Food came out well. Ordered: Burrata, Meatballs, Cacio e Pepe and chicken. Spent about 2hrs there with laughters which including two glasses of wine and dessert with friends but I forgot to take pictures of the dessert..

Came here on a Wednesday for happy hour. The restaurant is very cozy and inviting. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit. I got a burger which was a standard tasty burger and came with fresh greens and blue cheese, which I enjoyed. The service was very slow but this was not the waitstaff's fault as the establishment only had 1 waitress for all the tables inside and outside. The place was pretty full for a Weds evening but it also is in a very popular area. Another discrepancy was we were charged the non happy hour price for one drink. When we asked about it, it was said because we ordered after 7pm but the menu says happy hour is 4-8. Nevertheless they fixed it on the bill. Overall the food was good but they need more waitstaff.

We had a reservation at 7 and the place was not crowded but 15 later every table was filled. Server was attentive the drinks were good. We like Budweiser beer which they did not carry but Miller highlife beats the IPA crap in the hood. The rotation of the pizza oven was neat. The food was good we had a Pizza and fried misto calamari, zucchini, appetizers. Two burgers the fries great and the crabmeat pasta which was ok. The high top Tables were nice we would come back to Black Oak.

4.5 stars Found this place and was excited to check it out so we planned a joint birthday dinner for 11 on a Saturday night. We made a reservation for 7pm and arrived to a quiet setting. We were seated at the bench closest to the pizza ovens which was comfortable and we had the perfect amount of space. The place did definitely fill up and get pretty loud while we were there so the reservation was a good idea for us. Our server, Joseph, was great! He was very patient with our group that was trying to decide what we were getting. I, myself am pretty indecisive about food and always enjoy a good recommendation. We ended up ordering the calamari, octopus, meatballs and prosciutto with burrata. Everything was good, but the prosciutto and burrata were extra yummy. I also got the ricotta and honey which I can't often find on menus and it was so yum! I always think it's funny when our group orders drinks that amount to like half what the food costs lol we also got 3 pizzas - margherita, burrata and the diavola. Honestly, I wasn't wowed by any of them and actually could have done without any pizza (to be fair I didn't try the margherita bc it was on the other far side of the table). Others enjoyed the pizza and the burrata was a hit. For entrees, we got the short rib tagliatelle, cacio e pepe, linguini with white clams, oricchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe (my recommendation), parpadelle Bolognese, with fries and brussel sprouts with pancetta. Everyone seemed to really like their dishes and the cacio e pepe and short rib were a hit. I liked my oricchiette and it was as described - creamy flavorful and I don't normally enjoy pasta like that. I also enjoyed the brussel sprouts a lot. We got all sorts of drinks from the bar and we got some bottles of montepulciano which were really good. For dessert, we got some cappuccino, espresso, tiramisu, Nutella calzone and affogato. They did a nice little candle and birthday song and the desserts were refreshing! The affogato ice cream had this nice crunchy exterior as well and it tasted delicious with the espresso. I had a great time with my friends and Joseph was awesome all around! I'm glad we liked him so much because though we added extra gratuity for him, it is not noted anywhere (until you get the receipt AFTER you pay) that the tip percentage is based on the total check AFTER taxes so it can definitely add up. Like I said, Joseph was awesome so I'm glad (and hope) he got the extra, but it's something to keep in mind. As someone else mentioned, this restaurant is on Seated and you can download the app and earn rewards back. You can get credit for your first dine when you sign up with code melissa1041. Happy eats! :)

I also had multiple chums from Brooklyn endorsing this spot, so everything seemed to be lining up for an excellent night. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think you just can't go to places like this on a Tuesday, but maybe it was just a bad night. I got here way before my chum due to our work schedules, literally 45 minutes or so. It wasn't 6pm yet and while there were definitely customers in both the bar area and the backyard outdoor section, it was pretty chill. I was able to secure a small table next to the bar right by the open window in the front (probably because the sun was glaring down on it, which wasn't an issue 10 minutes later) and just chilled out for a while, enjoying the excellent warm weather. This was the highlight of the experience, which unfortunately my chum did not get to enjoy. A lot of this was just unfortunate timing, I think. As I was waiting for my chum, people were practically streaming into the bar, probably about 25 or so, which I watched with increasing trepidation. Pretty much all of them wanted a drink, and there was only one bartender. They did not fix that problem until well into my chum's visit, so there was literally just the one guy making a gazillion drinks for about 45 minutes. Just no reason for that at all, especially given that they DID have the resources to divert and had a young woman back there at a certain point. But once I saw how crazy it was getting, I tried to pre-emptively order a second round, which he forgot about and had to ultimately be reminded of. It took literally half an hour to get the second drink. When my chum arrived, she went up to the bar to order her own drink and some of the arancini. She came back 10 minutes later and said she wasn't given the opportunity - THAT is completely insane. If you're so swamped that customers have to wait that long to even order much less get their drinks, you need help. Not clear where the disconnect was, but what started out as a great experience pretty much crash landed. Really disappointing. The crowd did thin out ultimately but the damage had been done. We were able to get the drinks but didn't bother with the additional app because we didn't want to risk missing a big chunk of the Nets game. So by not being even remotely attentive for a significant period of time, they left money on the table. I will say that the bartender himself maintained his professionalism throughout, and just kept making the drinks. Pretty much the opposite of what would have happened on Bar Rescue. This was on management, not the bartender. The drinks WERE good, which also made the service problems a shame. I got the Witch Doctor, which featured bourbon, rosemary, maple and lemon. Really well made, and appropriate for the unseasonably warm evening - it's the kind of bourbon cocktail made for summer. Would absolutely get that again. And the food was very solid. The star of the night was the arancini, which were featured prominently on the apps menu right at the time and promoted as one of their big selling points - deservedly so. These were honestly some of the best rice balls I've had. The cheese in the middle emphasized the flavors and wasn't too dense or overwhelming, the balls were cooked perfectly, and the sauce (the underrated part of rice balls for me) was delicious. Huge recommend. I also got a margarita flatbread to share with my chum, and that was good as well. Everything was going to come up short to the arancini, but it hit the spot. As mentioned, this was a random Tuesday night when maybe they don't have their full crew ready to rock. Maybe it was a fluke crowd surge? I just don't know, but the bottom line was that they weren't prepared for the customers who came in and were already there, and that's a big problem. If you can't deliver the same quality that you do on the weekends and predictably busier times, then you shouldn't be open that early in the week. Hopefully they figure it out because there's a lot to like here.

I've made it a point to visit every vinyl listening bar that I learn of in town, after enjoying the shared experience of someone curating a select vinyl list in intimate spaces in Tokyo. Few have been able to replicate the experience, but Honeycomb Hi Fi Lounge comes close. That the space is narrow with just a few seats along the bar and a few tables mimics the Japanese experience best, where you can almost have it so the whole room is having one conversation together. The music is the focus. The cocktail menu is rather simple, and my Stormbringer drink, with dark rum and ginger beer was not anything to write home about, but $15 is pretty low for cocktails these days so I'll take it. If they introduced new cocktails to the menu with more interesting ingredients I'd be more inclined to return, but the vibes overall are pretty good and the staff really nice.

My friend and I each order a cocktail, and are catching up. I'm from Brooklyn, however I no longer live here, and this was precious catch-up time with my friend. Then I get interrupted mid-sentence by the old-timer DJ from his low seat in a corner behind the bar. I had bumped the bar with my wrist (bumped my wrist watch as well, not deliberately) and then placed my hand down (granted- more than placed but definitely not slammed), and he decided to warn me that I COULD HAVE made his record skip. It was the Eagles or Santana (far from eclectic, but that's just me). I'm also 99% certain he turned the volume up afterwards, making it even harder to enjoy the company. After that interaction, I struggled to pick it back up with my friend, because I found that distraction very effing rude. When this "4th wall" gets broken down with service, it is hard to then enjoy the space in an uninhibited state. I am all for the Tokyo Vinyl Bar vibe, and I'm also for also giving talent an outlet to share their collection, but this interaction colored my experience, and I closed out after one drink and went elsewhere. I mentioned this to the bartender, and he was kind to offer a buy-back of a rare whiskey, which I did accept. 5 stars for the bartender, but 1 for my experience. I don't like to be harsh or unnecessarily cruel, but this is what it is. I have visited in the past and enjoyed myself. Nonetheless, I certainly won't be coming back.

The immediate entrance is very tight, and it was uncomfortable navigating the space. We expected there'd be more seating in the back, which there was, but it was limited and not offered to us until we asked for it. We honestly had no clue where it would be and only asked because of how this place was advertised.
