We took the family on a night my husband has since referred jokingly to 'Tiny Tuesday'. Asaltho the waitress had mentioned that Tuesdays were different by way of suggesting to order a couple of entrees as a meal, we thought she meant it was a shared 2 experience. Instead, it meant all entree prices are slightly reduced bc they are out of the weekly allotment - so what you think will be entree sized meals are actually appetizer sized. The plating and food was delicious and ambience so lovely - but even though ordered more plates in the end, we left pretty hungry. I'll start by saying I LOVE the gratuity included/all-in pricing. Wish more restaurants would follow suit and pay their employees living wages and not push it onto the consumer. That being said, I was definitely a bit disappointed by the food. The Negroni spagliato was a bit weak, albeit tasty, but in a gigantic glass that was pretty unwieldy and hard to hold lol. We started with the pickled vegetable and wet bread appetizer which was strange and really salty. Wouldn't order again. The spaghetti al vongole was ok but not super flavorful and the clams were a bit chewy. The fish was also mediocre and tasted too fishy to be fresh, but the sauce it came in was delicious. This is sort of the poster child for overpriced Italian food. It seems none of the entrees or pastas are vegetarian by default - all contain some type of meat or seafood. I opted to have an appetizer instead of asking for modifications to the items. The freselle & bufala affiumicata was just OK - smoked mozzarella cheese and crusty bread served with some pickled vegetable shreds, doused in too much olive oil. The flavors are mild and nothing special. This by itself came out to $27 (with tax and credit card surcharge), and was a pretty small portion even for one. The price on the menu at least includes tip. But it seems you're mostly paying for imported ingredients that don't justify the higher price over a domestic alternative. Michelin southern Italian restaurant in Park Slope! Great in both sheets indoors and outdoors. We made a reservation at 6pm for two on Friday night. When we get there It was empty! But I always don't understand when they try to give the table right next to other costumers.. anyway. Other than that, we enjoyed our meals everything was authentic. Wine was great. So, I came back for dinner. Cento per cento! The food is prepared with the utmost care and attention. Everything is absolutely fresh and insanely delish. The bruschetta was flavorful, the bread was thicker and softer than you would expect for bruschetta. The meats and cheese plate was good. The burrata was interesting, nice smoky flavor and well-cooked eggplant. The gnocchi was pillowy and truffle dominated the flavor. Flora is our place for delicious Italian food. Great service, and super nice owners who are husband and wife. My favorite dish is the eggplant parm. My wife tries a different pasta every time . Italian restaurants of dubious distinction are often local faves and this one is no exception. Italian owned and a local favorite. Initially, I came by when they first opened and I received a gruff reception. Ate: Baccala Small salad Good red The baccala was delicious, savory cod in a lovely red sauce. The salad was nearly inedible with tomatoes tasting as if they were frozen and defrosted. The bread was toasted with olive oil meaning not fresh. Park Slope is a little out of my way but i love coming to Flora whenever I'm in the area. I've been for brunch and dinner and would easily recommend both, but the Eggs In Purgatory that I had for brunch easily made this a new favorite restaurant for me. This isn't just an upscale Italian restaurant, this is a distinct Southern Italian culinary experience. I haven't found an italian restaurant in NYC quite like it. Every time i've been, I leave my order up to the waiter who walks me through their dishes. I've found that there really is no bad choice. The tagliatelle dish on their menu was delicious and I recommend that whenever I take someone for dinner (or the ricotta ravioli). Expect to get both an appetizer and an entree per person. We just didn't feel the warmth other restaurants give you when you walk in. No hello after I said hi as we walked in. Just a deer in the headlight stare. No real greeting from the waiter once we sat. We asked if there were any specials. "No". Anywho...the eggplant parm was very nice. But the other two dishes we tried were so so. I might have gotten another glass of wine if the waiter ever came over to see how how meal was. That never happened. One of my pet peeves though. We dined at Flora on 9/21/24 and were very underwhelmed. The bill for 2 entrees and a side of spaghetti with olive oil and garlic (an off-menu request), no drinks, no dessert came to $106 with built-in tip plus tax and credit card fee. The octopus and roasted potatoes were dry and flavorless. No sauce was provided. The cod was over-salted while the accompanying tomato sauce with a few chunks of potato was bland. After getting halfway through my meal, I had to flag the waiter to request black pepper as none was offered, and he didn't come back to check whether we were satisfied. Aside from this oversight, service was good and friendly. The pasta was the highlight of the meal, cooked just right with excellent olive oil and garlic flavor. When you ask people in the area for Italian restaurant recommendations the first on the list is usually Pasta Louise. Or when you go on yelp, Pasta Louise jumps out. I'd like to make sure that changes today and vote Flora be first. Flora and Pasta Louise are separated by one block but might as well be miles apart when it comes to credible Italian food. For those that praise at the alter of Pasta Louise, here's a tip, run don't walk to Flora. It might not be the best Italian restaurant but it's truly authentic and genuine in its representation of Italian food. We enjoyed the mozzarella de bufala with tomatoes which also included beets. I thought it was odd but it worked. We shared the salt cod and the eggplant parm. All simply prepared and packed with flavor. The wine list is a bit expensive, actually I would say almost unaffordable when it comes to the bottle list. It drives me crazy when I go to a neighborhood joint and cannot find a bottle of wine in the $50 range. There's no excuse for not having at least one bottle at that price point. The service was solid. The ambiance is simple and clean. No loud colors or cartoon caricatures. I would encourage Pasta Louise to talk to Flora's interior designers but then again when you run the Italian version of TGI Fridays maybe the point is to hide the food behind clever branding and over the top designs. And cartoon figures. Hmm. I think McDonald's also has a cartoon character like Pasta Louise. Flora recently received a Michelin star. I'm not sure I agree with that designation but I will say it's one of the better Italian restaurants in the park slope area and would put it on par with Terre and Al Di La. read more

Came here for lunch with 2 girl friends and was seated right away. The food here was really just...okay. We ordered the arugula salad and mozzarella di Bufala to start. We ordered the fish special, fusilli con gamberetti and the eggplant parmesan. The arugula salad tasted fine but the pear was brown when served which makes me think it's old or not fresh? The bufala was good. The fish was mushy and pretty bland tasting minus the tomato sauce it comes with. The pasta was bland, texture was good though. The eggplant parmesan was not good. It was way too over baked or something and I honestly wasn't sure what I was eating. We finished off with the Chocolate Cake with almond flour and the sheep ricotta. The cake was good but the ricotta was so gamey it was like you're licking the sheep's private parts. My friend gagged on it. The service was great. Menu a mix of wonderfully authentic, and so obscure I had to sit and Google translate with my Southern European husband, who also didn't understand several items. "Brunch" without eggs and only select items offering greens or sides; one salad was just chunks of cheese with very hard toasted bread and bitter arugula. I want so badly for these guys to succeed but the fact is, their strengths are those of a café (buttery pastries, bread, coffee) but their size and menu reach toward being a restaurant. It's really confusing even for a European-American couple to navigate. Hopefully they take this as constructive criticism because the neighborhood could use this place. I love this Italian cafe in Park Slope, it's my favorite places to stop for lunch or brunch. Flora is run by kind and attentive owners who serve high quality and delicious food. They have an authentic (I know this word doesn't mean much these days but it's true) approach with many imported italian ingredients. Everything is dependably delicious; my favorites are the burrata (sometimes available as an appetizer and sometimes in pasta), eggs in purgatory, and meatballs. They also have hard to find (actual) Italian sodas like chinotto and spuma nera which have flavors more similar to herbal bitters than sweet soda flavors. The spuma nera, served with a slice of lemon and ice, tastes like an aperitivo (almost like a cynar spritz!m)! Highly, highly recommend Flora for an afternoon drink, coffee, lunch or dinner. read more

Except this is right in our backyard in Park Slope! Add in a cappuccino and a pastry? Bellissimo. They've got a few tables outside (sidewalk seating for those with dogs!), and a nicely-sized, bright and airy interior. Owners are extremely friendly, and are always there. I've also come in once for lunch and had a lovely prosciutto panini, served with roasted red peppers and olives on the side. Also worth noting their olive oil here is the good stuff -- and thankfully, they drizzle it on basically everything (or so it seems?) Anyway, it's so flavorful. I'm totally perplexed by all the 5 star reviews!! I wanted to give Flora 3 to 3 1/2 stars but Yelp doesn't have a half point rating system, so I gave 4 stars which is generous. I wanted this experience be great since Flora is in my neighborhood, and I've passed by numerous times without stopping in, I should have listened to my intuition. As I entered Flora the waiter was cleaning a table, we made eye contact and I sat down, and waited, and waited....Finally he came over, placed the water carafe on my table and left. Then I waited, and waited again. Finally the owner came to my table and handed me a nenu..The owner is a friendly and attentive gentleman. The owner went to each table to address his customers which is nice. By the way, he's the owner, I inquired. As I waited for my waiter to finally return to my table, the owner returned and took my order. I explained to the owner I wanted coffee, and the breakfast option on the menu. The owner first returned with my coffee and a small bottle of cream which appeared to be curdled. I attempted to pour, and yes, it seemed a bit thick for me. I didn't dare touch it, and I pushed away the feeling I began to experience. Once again, the owner returned with my food. ( where was my waiter?).....Poached Egg, Potato, Prosciutto Cotto, Asiago cheese, Bread and one Olive. The white of the poached egg appeared to be a bit runny to me, but I ventured on. After two bites I knew the egg was undercooked for me. One thing about my eggs, have to be fully cooked, even poached eggs must be fully cooked. At this point I knew I should stop. I began to feel nauseous. Then I cut into the Italian ham and cheese, my taste buds were not impressed. I cut into the cold potatoes, was disappointed as well, cold tasteles potatoes not my thing. I thought perhaps the saving grace would be the bread, nope. The bread was drowned in oil and looked like someone ripped it apart with their bare hands. The best thing about my meal was the one freaking olive!!! I explained to the owner( still waiting for my waiter), I would like everything except the egg, to go. The owner offered to cook my egg a bit more, but I was done, I'm fussy about my eggs and just wanted out. I told the owner it's not him , his food, or the female cook who came over. I was very particular about my eggs. Besides I felt like I was going to be sick and had to leave. I told the owner I'd take two of his pastries to go, (fig tarts), and was at the counter waiting for my bill, when a familiar face appeared, my waiter! The owner rang me up, 30 dollars and change for my breakfast plate, coffee, and 2 tarts. I then placed the tip on my table, which should have been handed to the owner since he ended up being my waiter! Now I have to say, I wasn't going to review Flora due to my experience. I was going to give them another try. However, when I arrived home and opened my " to go" container, I was shocked. I'd never seen any establishment thtow all my food into a plastic cup when I ask for my food " to go". I cannot recommend Flora at this time, and unfortunately will not be returning. Love it when I find an underrated restaurant. I called ahead for a reservation for 2 and was seated immediately upon arrival. We were attended to just like the last time I visited. I ordered the fusili pasta and my friend ordered the tagliatelle. I had her try my food before I dug in and she said both pastas taste like they are homemade. They are so simple yet so delish. Was a nice Saturday outdoor dining lunch experience on a beautiful day. We originally planned to go to a popular Mediterranean spot a block up, but there was a long wait at 1230pm on a Saturday. So we walked down and found Flora. All three outdoor tables were miraculously open, and they could accommodate 4 adults and 2 kids (though no high chairs for the 2 year old). I was grateful we found it, as there weren't many other options nearby, and we were a large group during a busy weekend brunch/lunch rush. The service was good, we were checked on frequently, though they did seem to forget my cocktail, which they quickly rectified. The food was fine - the menu was authentically Italian, even the sodas were Italian branded. The portions were small-medium, was fine for us. I had the tomato mozzarella panini - it was average. The side salad was tiny. The pasta bowl looked sizable and ideal for the kids. My cocktail - the Venetian Spritz not only was pretty but delicious (and strong!). My cousin liked his Italian beer so much, he ordered a second. The kids enjoyed, as they had plenty of space to explore outside (as well as chat with the neighbors at the next table!). Came for an early dinner on a Thursday night and they had a fair amount of people eating. Their space is beautiful and super cozy. Service was really friendly. I had the eggplant Parmesan and one of the best I've had around the city in my opinion. I scarfed it down too fast and forgot to take a picture, but I'll definitely be back. The dish was around $19, it comes with mixed greens and bread with olive oil all together plated nicely. Definitely filling! It wasn't drenched in tomato sauce and the eggplant was sliced not too thin or thick, you were able to really taste the eggplant texture. Their dinner menu isn't big, a few entrees and pasta, some sides. This must mean their other dishes are just as good. Not a place to come if you're looking for fettuccine Alfredo. The family comes from Italy and I believe they source a lot of their ingredients from their too. I'm a fan, and definitely want to come back to try their brunch. It's a small bakery feel brunch place which is the perfect if you want to stop by for a coffee after a long stroll at Prospect Park. Honestly, food is okay. It's probably not a "let's actually eat" brunch place because it's main attraction seems to be imported charcuterie and cheese, which is nice but that's not what brunch is about. The food doesn't seem to match the atmosphere or the small, boutique feel. The tables are surprisingly short so it feels like you're drinking tea with Barbie while friendly servers tower over you. The "uova in camicia" is your typical brunch vision but there's nothing special ($16). The food portion is definitely not enough. The "frittata di spaghetti" is downright strange. I didn't really think it would be the spaghetti pie and that was my mistake to think otherwise. It really is a circular form of bland spaghetti molded by some weird egg magic. If you do want to take this road less traveled, then you're going to have to ask for salt and pepper and bring your own hot sauce because it honestly tastes like you shouldn't have paid $16 for it.
