Came here for dinner on a Friday night and had such an incredible time. The inside is on the smaller side and is decorated very cozily, making for a great place to catch up with a smaller group. The staff was so kind and helpful with deciding what to get. We split a bottle of one of the lightly chilled chiantis the Fiasco and it was perfection. We mainly got the winter specials which were the asparagus, smoked eel, duck salad and scallops which were all truly phenomenal. The scallop dish was quite small so not the best for sharing but the rest were all amazing. From the regular menu we got the mushroom toast which was absolutely delicious and great for sharing and the pork chop which is one of the best dishes I have ever had. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and was incredibly juicy. For dessert, we got the creme brûlée which I am also still thinking about and one of the best desserts I have ever had. Probably more of a 3.5 but rounded up. Honestly have mixed feelings about this place. What they do well, they do very well, but otherwise wasn't that impressed. The vibes here are great, very relaxed. Favorite was hands down the mushroom toast, which was better than everything else by a mile. I also liked the vermouth cocktails (haven't had that before but it was good). Mussels and accompanying bread were good but I thought the sauce was a bit too acidic/lemony. Now onto the not so great. The foccacia we ordered as an appetizer was served to us cold and a bit stale. Pork chop we ordered was also rather dry. We had a wonderful date night celebrating our anniversary at the Leland. The service was fantastic from the moment we stepped inside. Don't sleep on the whole fried fish- it's lighter than it sounds and absolutely delicious-from the seasoning to the fry to the dipping sauce! I'm the last person to order chicken when I'm out because we make it so much at home, but it's another fan favorite- juicy and full of flavor, don't skip it. Only thing we were sad about was the lack of a sugary, chocolate-free dessert but we aren't really dessert people so it won't keep us from coming back- loved it! read more

Sad farewell to Dean St Cafe but a warm welcome to Leland, which kept the welcoming, low key vibe. The short menu is sharing plates in small, medium, and large sizes, and a selection of specials. Drinks menu is extensive. Service is, dare I say, loving? Our server cared so much about the place it really shone through - they made sure to tell us about the in-house pork butchering and bread baking. Also provided an excellent wine recommendation. Leland is a cute Asian-Mediterranean-American fusion place. It's classy (almost bordering pretentious), and very expensive at anywhere from $15-25 per appetizer or $35-55 per entree. Some of the dishes (like congee, which is, in my culture, about $2-3 a bowl elsewhere and can be easily made at home) were exorbitantly overpriced for what they were even if they are slightly elevated. The biggest draw to the restaurant is the ambiance and service, and the fact that they do everything in-house (supposedly, they even have their own bakery and butcher beneath the restaurant, according to our server). The food is also quite tasty and flavorful. We ordered a cornucopia of food (our friendly server recommended 8 dishes - 3 appetizers, 3 plates/small dishes, and 2 entrees - for our group of 6), which came out to nearly $270, and our entire group was still hungry enough to get dessert and a second meal (elsewhere). I probably wouldn't return due to the cost and portion sizes of the food. However, it makes for a nice date spot, as long as you're not hungry and willing to pay a pretty penny. read more

Discovered leland while looking for a brunch spot and was intrigued by their menu options. We walked in late morning on a weekend and put our name down for about an hour wait (which ended up being closer to 45 in actuality). It did look like they had reservations day of, so we probably could have gotten a spot a bit quicker if we actually booked a resy.. all good, we just hung out at a coffee shop nearby! We were seated at the bar and our server was quick to greet us and walk us through the menu. We opted to order the Pork Shank Hash (which was the reason we had chosen Leland to begin with!) along with the Laffne and the cinnamon bun. It is a little bit on the pricey side, though the ingredients are local and they have a big focus on sustainability, so wouldn't say this was a surprise. Cinnamon bun: very sweet and very citrusy. Rather large, baked in house. Solid but would say to make sure you're in the mood for citrus since it really comes out! Laffne: found this to be pretty unique compared to labnes I've gotten elsewhere. Good balance throughout, but was a bit messy to eat in the plate with the runny eggs, but we both enjoyed. Pork shank hash: perfectly cooked in my opinion, pork was very flavorful and the chef achieved the perfect crisp with the hash. Would absolutely order again!! Service was helpful and friendly, and food came out within a reasonable time frame. Didn't feel rushed, and we enjoyed the meal here. We ordered the following: - Laffa (poached eggs, jalapeno labne, peanuts, sesame, chilies, scallion) - this was VERY good. The sauces, the textures, the flavor. Recommended! - pork shank hash (egg, potato, jalapeno, parmigiano, tomatillo) - this was solid. The pork itself wasn't super flavorful, but the sauces were good. I wish there was more texture or an element of crunch to this dish. - Tortang talong (eggplant, eggs, cherry tomato, arugula, pecorino, lemon aioli) - this was also very good, a solid combination of flavors, though the lemon aioli combined with cherry tomato was a little too much acid for me. Visited LeLand for Brunch and very happy I had a made a reservation for a Saturday morning, which I was able to make earlier in the day. People walking in had wait times that seemed to be getting longer while we were able to snag our table outdoors. I love how LeLand is situated on a lovely corner in Prospect Heights, allowing for tons of natural light to flow into the restaurant. The outdoor seating also sprawled across the caddy cornered streets, making it feel like the spot to be for passersby. It was a busy Saturday brunch, but even with that we had great and friendly service. The cheddar jalapeño biscuit and deviled eggs were our starters and really set the tone for the tasty meal ahead. The biscuit was freshly made in house, and the butter had each of us fawning over every bite. The deviled eggs were also amazing, with the perfect softness but also slight crunch with what tasted like roe inside the egg. For drinks, we ordered the Bloody Mary, Vietnamese coffee with amaro, and some wine. Each beverage was exquisite, we ordered multiple. For mains we had the pork hash, laffa, and eggs diavolo with a side of bacon. The side of bacon had some maple syrup on it which made it even more delicious, and the mains themselves were all strong on their own. I only wish the portions were slightly bigger because of how good everything was. As we dusted off our plates, we were still hungry, so ordered the skillet cornbread to finish. The cornbread was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and crumbly on the inside with tastes of honey seeping throughout the skillet. Leland is a relatively new modern farm-to-table restaurant that prides itself on each ingredient being made from scratch in the premises. The ambiance was relaxing despite being packed on a Saturday for brunch. The food is generally quite tasty and dishes get extra points for being original. If you'd like to get out of your typical diner style breakfast habit, I'd recommend you check out some of Leland's elevated plates. The snacks and shareables are especially distinctive and make for an amazing dining experience. Here's what we ordered from most to least favorite: 1. Market Crudités: I'm just as surprised that this dish was my favorite, but the cannellini bean spread was so delicious that I couldn't help get multiple helpings. The turnips and radishes are fresh and a pleasant change from your typical carrot, celery, and broccoli used as scoopers. This dish is perfect for sharing in a large group. 2. Trout Rilette: another original taste for your fish lovers out there. This time homemade chips come to your rescue to scoop up the trout spread (and squeeze of lemon), which tastes way better than it likely sounds. Another good pick for sharing. 3. Pork Shank Hash: this dish has all the right ingredients and is perfectly saucy. You get the classic, egg, potato, pork combination, but elevated with the use of jalapenõs, parmigiano cheese, and tomatillos. You can get buttered toast on the side for $2, which does come in handy because unfortunately this dish is quite small. 4. Honey toast brûlée: honestly, could have even been higher up on my list, but I generally prefer salty over sweet . This version of a French toast is far more elevated with a brûlée caramelized top, fresh ricotta, sesame seeds, and pine nuts working in harmony. The serving size for the toast is also quite small; I'd recommend complementing this dish with something salty. 5. Maple thick bacon: normally I'm not one to not enjoy a bacon dish, but unfortunately this bacon was far too salty. It felt like I was licking salt flats with each bite. The maple just couldn't make up for the saltiness. 6. Porchetta sandwich: extremely oily and salty and had a lot going on in the wrong ways. This is a heavy dish with oil oozing out of your fingers as you grab the sandwich. If you choose this sandwich, you can rest assured you'll have leftovers due to just how heavy it is. The cocktails on the menu are quite simple and rather pricey (it may be just me but $15 for a mimosa feels rather excessive). I got the Italian greyhound, which was okay but not worth the price tag. I'd skip alcohol for brunch here next time. Overall, great addition to the neighbourhood. Most dishes are quite small, but still have full dish prices. Plates are original and worth checking out if you want a change from your typical all American breakfast. Ambiance is somewhat upscale even during the day and the lots of windows brings in natural light, helping you release those endorphins. read more

The ambiance despite being outside was cozy and as one can imagine, with limited dining options , they were busy I was excited to come here for brunch accompanied by a friend who just recently moved to Clinton hill . I often tell her how lucky she is to have a lot of good restaurants, Leland being one of them . We started with the olive bread which was amazing ! I do wonder if it would even be better served slightly toasted/ warm but as is , was superb . We shared a vegetable sandwich ( their take was to use focaccia and again it was amazing , The sauce with the vegetables was a good compliment) and we had the ube french toast ( ube comes from the potato family but is usually purple and is on the sweeter side hence is mostly used on cakes / desserts ). It was good and was an innovative way of using ube . Again , I was hoping it was going to be served warm but it was room temperature . Others who were seated close to our table seemed to be enjoying the clams ( I would like to try tbh a next time ). Their wine and selection selection is expansive. My friend had the frozen Negroni ( perfect for wam summer days in ny ) and I had a glass of rose ( from Spain ). The vegan cinnamon bun was good, and I had no complaints about my eggs fra diavolo, a.k.a. shakshuka. But nothing really wowed me, and I was surprised at how long the lines were at 11 on a Sunday. It had been a bit of a late night the night before so we stuck with coffee over cocktails, but the iced coffee was quite good and it had a cute milk pourer. For food I'd highly recommend the fresh made cinnamon bun, it was delicious, very decadent. I got the porchetta sandwich and it was really delicious, the bread was fantastic, flavors were great. Of the other mains: the egg & cheese (made vegetarian), it was solid though they weren't blown away. I came here for brunch with my family. The service was ok, and our servers were really kind even though it took them a while to come and take our order. We even thought that they might not have assigned anyone to our table because it took that long. Starting with the drink, I ordered a bloody mary. The ratio of alcohol to the tomato juice/horseradish and Tabasco was way off. You could barely taste any of the other stuff. You could really only taste the alcohol. Plus it felt super watered down. They also didn't have much on the menu that was gluten and dairy-free. Options were very limited. The salad was really good although they didn't take out the anchovy and they didn't seem to know what was in their own salad dressing. At first, they said they couldn't do their salad dressing dairy-free and they said they could do a lemon vinaigrette which I was ok with but then they came in with a creamy looking dressing and they walked away without explaining that they could do it dairy-free but they didn't take out the anchovy. It was pretty good with the anchovy so when it comes down to that I didn't have too much of a problem. The salad also wasn't filling at all. It shouldn't have been considered a brunch item but a snack. I wonder what my other options would have been besides that if there was anything. I would suggest adding more to the menu that's inclusive of both allergies and maybe having better communication in the kitchen. It was a cute restaurant, though. read more

Asked for descriptions and our waitress couldn't answer anything yet not trying to get someone to help. Anchovy Toast - as good as you can expect a canned or jarred anchovy on a grilled toast. The toast was good though probably was soaked in oil. Ramp - quite greasy few stringa of green onion nothing special. For $18 I would skip. Pork Chop & White Bean - I'd say this dish safe my review. Usually won't order pork chop as just higher chance to fail. It wasn't that tender, but also not too tough. Quite pleasant for the dish from the lightly grilled crispy outside and the light chili oil sauce. Creme Brulee Pie - interesting combination of our favorites so also a winner! All 4 vermouth came out so so so slow almost after our dishes were finished. Vermouth you just pour them not even any effort. Dessert also came out super slow, it's just a sliced pie...
