It has been some time since I enjoyed the ambiance and interiors of a restaurant space and Sailor hit all the marks. The rich wood tones and brass details set the mood so well. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the environment around me. The bartender was super personable and had rapport with regulars. I ordered a bianco spritz (summer cocktail), which was light and just enough for a mild buzz. The steak was medium rare on a bed of greens. It was nice, nothing crazy. The standout for me was dessert. I tried the olive oil cake and it was lovely. It was fragrant with gentle citrus notes, moist but not dense. Perfect way to cap off the meal. read more

I'm giving you a 3 because usually you are amazing but quality has gone down, my fish was rubber. For a fish restaurant that's not okay: My partners chicken was spectacular he said and he's always loved that dish. . Please let me know if this is too harsh but the fish was almost inedible. Maybe an off day or an off dish. read more

Came here for brunch. I got the BLT and my friend got the Turkish Eggs, and we shared a green salad. I also ordered a Hugo Spritz to drink. The decor is beautiful and the food is good. The service was fine. My drink was way too flat. I could tell the champagne in it was old. My other issue is with the prices. I paid $25 for a BLT and it came with nothing (I had to order fries separately). I guess the area is kind of expensive but I still think $25 for a plain sandwich is unnecessary (and you can see how small the sandwich is). read more

I had a fantastic brunch here for my birthday! They gave me a little menu that said "happy birthday" on the top and the staff were all so kind! I shared the burger, medium rare, and the Turkish eggs and everything was delicious! The fries dipped into the Turkish eggs were fantastic as well. If anything, the burger/fries were a little too salty. I definitely plan on coming back! read more

I've had this place on my list for a long time and it was totally fine. I think the first mistake we made was not knowing that the burger was only available at the bar. We watched countless pass by and had so much fomo. Everything we had was perfectly fine - with the only standout being the squid. The Caesar was average, as was the chard and steak. Would consider trying brunch but won't be running back. read more

I was so excited to come back here with out of town guests. The food was still incredible, but this time the service was incredibly disappointing. We ordered two appetizers with distinctive sauces, and when our plates weren't cleared after the first course, we made what I thought was a very reasonable request for fresh plates. That simple request seemed to send our server over the edge. At a restaurant of this caliber, I would expect fresh plates and silverware to be brought automatically between courses. Instead, the staff insisted that we keep using the same silverware throughout the meal. Later in the evening, I sat with an empty cocktail glass for quite a while. I tried making eye contact with our server, who appeared to avoid our table by turning her back and refusing to look over. I suspect she noticed me in her peripheral vision because she abruptly said, "I'll be with you in just a moment." I wasn't waving her down or trying to interrupt her. I simply wanted a wine list, which could have been dropped off in seconds for me to browse while she continued helping other tables. Instead, after I asked, she prioritized several other tasks before eventually bringing it over. At one point, my friends joked that "the food is great in Brooklyn, but the service is rude." That honestly made me sad to hear because it doesn't reflect the Brooklyn I've known over the past 14 years. I've always found it to be warm and welcoming. I'm not sure what happened to Sailor, but this experience couldn't have been more different from my first visit, as reflected in my previous review. Before dismissing this as someone being overly critical, it's worth noting that I worked in the service industry for 17 years. I know restaurants get busy, and I don't expect perfection. But basic hospitality, attentiveness, and professionalism should still be part of the experience, especially at a restaurant of this quality. read more

The moment you walk in, the rich mahogany wood, brass fixtures, navy bar stools and nautical paintings on exposed brick just get you. It gives old world charm meets NYC cool and the combination just works. The drinks set the tone perfectly. The Espresso Martini was bold and smooth, and the Heatwave Margarita had this creamy tropical quality that was really unique. Food-wise, the Smoked Salmon Plate with soda bread was a delish, first time trying soda bread and it was a solid pairing with the dish. The Asparagus & Spring Pea Quiche was hearty, savory and golden crusted perfection. But the star? The French Toast, sitting in a warm maple sauce topped with a cloud of cream. Fluffy, indulgent and an absolute must order! read more

Beautiful restaurant nestled in Fort Greene, it makes for a cute spot to grab a drink with friends, with a $9 house white/red (Riesling this time for white) offered. Had a welcoming and upbeat server, but the service was general slower and not rushed, 2.5hr for our meal. I was excited as the dishes sounded unique and promising but a lot of them fell short: The egg tonnato didn't have much flavor, the herb oil only adding a slightly grassy taste. I was excited for the hiramasa crudo, but it was bland and one note, even the mild pomelo overpowered the fish because of how little flavor. Fried anchovies were tasty and paired well with sage but the portion is so small for the price. What went well: sea bass was very well cooked, very soft, flaky, well flavored. Was under salted but I could add that myself. The pork was also well cooked, tender, generous portion of meat that paired well with the cherry. We finished off with the burnt caramel tart, which had a good flavor although the texture was on the softer side. I don't think the creme fraise really complemented it, but still tasty. There were some good dishes and Sailor is a vibe, but the price point and what we received I'm not sure if I'd return for a meal. read more

This is a charming neighborhood American bistro on a corner with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We had lunch here today and, from the moment we sat down, felt completely at ease. It has the kind of cozy neighborhood vibe that makes you want to relax and savor your meal. Our server, Annie S., was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and very easy to talk to. Her service struck the perfect balance and truly enhanced our experience. We shared the Sailor Gin Martini, which was beautifully chilled, bright, aromatic, and finished with a lovely dry note. It was refreshing and absolutely delicious. For our appetizer, we shared the quiche. It was so good that we completely forgot to take a photo before finishing it! For our entrées, I ordered the cod and my husband had the burger without the bun. The cod was honestly one of the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked, incredibly fresh, and full of flavor. The pea purée that accompanied it was equally delicious and complemented the fish beautifully. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his burger, and I couldn't resist helping myself to some of his fries, which were excellent as well. Every part of this meal was enjoyable, from the drink and food to the warm hospitality and comfortable atmosphere. Needless to say, we both left very happy. read more

Was between 4 and 5 stars. I absolutely love the decor here (with the dark wood paneling and ocean/ship paintings) and the food is very good. Of course we had to try the French toast-- loved the bruleed top and the salty-sweet vanilla cream on top was phenomenal, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the type of bread they used (tasted kind of like sourdough, which was a bit of weird in a French toast). The Turkish eggs were also very good (the fried naan-like bread was the best part) but portion was smaller than I expected. I liked the flat white I ordered but the fresh-squeezed orange juice had a bit of a weird bitter aftertaste. Service overall is also quite slow. Reservations def recommended though they do have walk-in seating at the bar. read more

Solid neighborhood brunch spot with fun vibes and a stellar french toast. However, it falls a little short of all the hype based on service + the other dishes we tried. Made a reservation for Saturday brunch with a friend and was instantly charmed upon arrival. I love the layout of the restaurant with the bistro tables facing inward-- it really feels like they are making the best use of the space. For food, my friend and I opted to share the french toast and the burger. The french toast was delicious, although dare I say the slab of butter they put on the top is a little too thick and too cold, so it's hard to get it to properly melt. The burger was good but nothing spectacular and I think they could have a much better bun. However, the fries were delicious! I got a flat white and my friend got a grapefruit juice. For the price, the sizes of the drinks fell flat, and my flat white was also too much like a cappuccino. Service was friendly but extremely slow to take our initial order, and our drinks then took 10 minutes to come out too. read more

Ended up stopping by sailor on a little solo date because I decided to treat myself! Had a reservation at the bar and the bartender was exceptionally attentive. I immediately placed my order and she offered drink options. That would pair very well. I started with the Caesar salad. It was very creamy crunchy and fresh 10/10. Next, I got the Branzino. It was way bigger than I expected. Came with a lot of vegetables, but I wish for the price there wasn't accompanying side. It was more than filling indefinitely, packed up half of it to go. I opted to get dessert as well, which was also a nice small sweet treat to wrap up my night. The only thing that's holding it back from me making it. A five star review is the temperature. The restaurant was extremely hot and at times I feel like it made me uncomfortable. Regardless, I definitely look forward to going back to the spot. read more

Came on a Saturday night and the place was completely packed. Tables were extremely close to each other. We got a bottle of wine, fried sardines - extremely salty but lightly battered and could have used a sauce, beef carpaccio - super thin and small portion, trout - perfectly cooked but the salad was way too sour, skirt steak - maybe 4 oz and lacked any flavor, gnudi - 5 pieces of ricotta stuffed balls, and olive oil cake - the smallest slice. Total came out to $250 before tip and I was still hungry. Nothing stood out and if it wasn't for the $150 Chase Reserve credit, I would have never come. read more

It took a long time to get here, not sure why. This place is perfect. What a night, incredible service !!! GM, Somm, wait staff, everyone is so friendly and kind. The space is beautiful. The food is even better. Deviled eggs were a 10. The squid app is delicious, steak and chicken entree are amazing. Chicken is a little spicy, cooked to perfection and a very large dish. Steak was perfect medium rare and the lemon cake was wonderful for dessert. We will be back soon...Gabe Stulman and April - you should open more restaurants!!! read more

The place looks incredibly decorated with different furnishing of boats and such. Uncertain as to why coffee and orange juice is bottled within plastic containers. Especially since it's a premium item. Now, NYC tap is within glass and free. Make it make sense! The staff were very helpful with item selections, French toast and burger. Something I'd heard great things about. Now I was also told 20 minutes for the burger with the French toast coming out first. It's been 30 min and it's just arrived.100% worth the wait. Now I only state the time aspect as I'm starving and looking forward to another place afterwards. The French toast which I thought would arrive sooner were not as great as I expected. Not something I'd travel for. read more

We sat outside in a beautiful Friday evening and luckily there was a free table. It was busy both inside and outside and out and the hostess was very pleasant and attentive. The explained everything to us. We had the house, red and white line which were refreshing. We started with the carpaccio with anchovies and capers. It was delicious, very tender, and the saltiness and acidity of capers made a wonderful combination. Then we had some rustic bread with some delicious butter spread. We ordered some fish appetizer, but I cannot remember. The name was very fresh and delicious. Finally, we ordered the Halibut which came in some tomato based sauce, but was simply prepared It was fresh, light and perfectly prepared. We are definitely coming back. read more

I really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. It was moody but surrounded by the large windows. The restaurant had fun decor and could accommodate various group sizes! Our server was super sweet and cleaned off all the crumbs on our table before the next course of our dinner arrived which I thought was a nice touch! The food itself was good - nothing super unique or innovative, but had solid options that could satisfy any palate. My person favorite was the seared squid salad we had! It was a nice balance of flavors and unique! Definitely think for two people we order way too much food, but they also will package your food for you and you just pick it up at the host desk before you head out! read more

This maritime bistro in Fort Greene is one of the most highly sought after brunch reservations in New York City for good reason. The ten dining tables all with firmly pressed white linen cloths are surrounded by nautical elements like a porthole, oak paneled walls, and brass lamps to make it feel like you're in the first class cabin of a ship. The seasonal menu brings together elements of fresh American farm cooking with British cuisine. The asparagus and spring pea quiche was soft and flavorful and went well with a refreshing Pimm's Cup. The smoked salmon with soda bread and chive cream cheese was sensational. The French toast was pillowy soft on the inside with a crunchy shell topped with creamy vanilla and maple syrup. The service was kind and attentive. read more

Had a date night here on a weekday recently. No reservations, just walked in and asked for a bar spot. Waited about 20 minutes next door and got a text that our table was ready. Great-looking menu, ended up getting the Caesar salad, stuffed radicchio, and chicken to share. Everything was top-notch. The Caesar was one of the best I've had, and the stuffed radicchio was on another level. Didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The wine reduction was really special. The chicken was the star of the show. I'm one of those people who never order chicken out because I can make it at home, but this was just on another tier. I couldn't, on my best day, cook chicken this well. Couldn't recommend enough. The staff was super helpful and friendly without being overbearing sitting at the bar. Will definitely be back here this summer on the patio! read more

Visited for Saturday brunch. We tried the French toast & Sailor burger. Their French toast is definitely the standout dish. I enjoyed the burger too but the bun was a bit on the crunchier, denser side for my liking. The fries were salted perfectly. The service was a bit on the slower side. We were offered ketchup upon ordering, and it never came. We followed up twice and never ended up getting it. read more

Ate my meal so quickly I forgot to take a picture of the reason for the visit. The French toast of course. Got a reservation by showing up when they opened. Quite lucky. Got seated at the bar and ordered the burger and French toast with the thick bacon on the side. The grapefruit juice was quite nice. They noted that it would take a while cuz our orders were the things that took the longest to wait. They got me cuz I was waiting so long I eventually got one of the spritz. Soon after our burger arrived and honestly it should get more hype than it does. Doesn't need the bacon for sure. Amazing patty. Very juicy. Great crispy fries as well with Ketchup mayo and mustard. Everything simple but really good. The French toast was very soaked in syrup but maintained its structure. I see why it gets hyped. It's also sitting in a layer of syrup. For next time I'd ask that they only let it sit in the syrup and not have the entire French toast soaked in it. As a result it was quite sweet. Didn't stop me from finishing it though. Sitting at the bar was fine. read more

I'd recommend brunch over dinner so you can get the burger! Actually all the brunch items we had were delicious There can still be a wait on the weekends, so if you don't get a res, you can walk around or even go to Ft Greene park to standby This was my last meal out before I had my baby, so it holds a special place haha We got the burger, french toast, and turkish eggs. I'd recommend everything, but it was definitely way too much for 2 people. Next time, I'd go for the eggs and burger only because the french toast is a bit on the smaller side and good to share with more than 2 We've also been here for dinner, but it wasn't super memorable EXCEPT for the profiteroles! Came with w baby for lunch, very quiet inside and outside, yet they were "at capacity" and only had bar seating or a 45 min wait. Oh, the glory this French toast is Crispy on the outside, pillowy soft inside, and served in a pool of the most flavorful maple syrup ever. If it were socially acceptable, I would've licked the plate The scoop of vanilla cream on top ties everything together perfectly. I had no clue Sailor was open for lunch until I was searching for a lunch place on open table. We were able to get an 1130AM reservation. The restaurant was not busy with a few patrons. The restaurant was thoughtfully decked out with paintings, symbols consistent with sailing vibes. We started off with complimentary olives. I got the house white which was a sauvignon blanc for only 9 dollars. We ordered the deviled eggs followed by the smoked haddock soup. The haddock soup had large pieces of smoked haddock. It wasn't as creamy as a chowder, but that was a plus. We shared the burger and fries which came with mayo, mustard and ketchup and got the chicken. The chicken was so flavorful and so moist. If only all chicken came this moist. It retained its moisture even when we had it for leftovers a few days later. We ended the gluttonous lunch with theirs signature ginger cake with a cream on top. As someone who has eaten a lot of baked goods in the City, I was not super impressed with the cake. I would definitely skip it next time. read more

Back in Brooklyn! I cannot seem to stay away from New York. I guess it's in my bones. Landing at LaGuardia Airport this morning and a quick Uber ride to my son's Condo in Brooklyn we all wanted lunch - Now! Instead of the usual "Same Ole Same Ole" repetitive restaurants, my wife chose Sailors. A ten minute walk and viola, we were seated, ordered up and ready to go. I had a simply wonderful Caesar Salads that I think I might put it my top five (in the hundreds I've had). I also had Deviled Eggs that were creamy, scrumptious and quite pretty. I did order a something I've never had before - A Miller High Life beer pony style; meaning a bottle of beer the size of my fist. I really liked the size as I didn't have time for a nap. My wife had the lunch Bass with lentils and Swiss chard and came with a creamy horseradish sauce. She loved this dish. The service was stellar, the ambience was causal classy. We both loved Sailor so much, we are planning to come back here during our two week stay in New York! read more

Such a cute little brunch spot. We decided to share everything, which felt like the right move because we could sample each dish. The burger was delicious, cooked perfectly medium rare with that juicy, just right center. But my personal favorite? The Turkish eggs. Absolute saucy perfection. They came with a puffy flatbread that paired amazingly with all that rich, flavorful goodness, though I do wish the bread had been bigger. The sauce was just too good, and I needed more to soak it all up. The true star of the meal, though, was the French toast. Thick and drenched in a maple syrup with a vanilla cream dollop. I highly recommend ordering it almost as a dessert and eating it right away. We waited a bit while finishing the savory dishes, so it wasn't piping hot by the time we dug in, still delicious, but it definitely would've been even better warmer. Sailor was a SOLID restaurant. Properly "sailor-themed" decor with a lovely staff. The food was awesome and the wait staff were very helpful in recommending dishes and which items would go well with each other. All dishes were equally as fabulous, but if I had to pass on one it'd be the green salad as it was simple leaves with a vinaigrette + pumpkin seeds. Chickpea hummus was drizzled with a jalapeño oil that wasn't spicy but offered a great flavor. The artichoke was very tart and refreshing. It had a heavy acidity to it. The half chicken was great-- super tender and juicy with a glazed in a wonderful sauce while manning a tasty skin. The atmosphere here is fantastic and so beautiful. I really like the nautical accents alongside the wall and the bar area is also really cool. I felt like I was in a ship and they have a really nice seasonal pumpkin display outside. Onto the food, I came here for brunch, so can't speak to their normal menu, but my friend got the Turkish eggs, and I got the croque monsieur. While my portion size was decent, I felt like my friends plate was really really small for the price. I'm not sure she was full after the meal. My sandwich turned out to be so much food and cheese that I had trouble finishing it because it was loaded up with a lot of cheese. I thought this was delicious and my only minor complaint is that it was a little bit too acidic. There is a healthy slathering of Dijon mustard, and that paired with the pickles was a little bit overpowering. I would have liked it more if there was less mustard, but I still really enjoy this dish. read more

Sauce it's very good but really didn't look for a carb dish after overloaded with toasts. - Green Salad with Oregano Vinaigrette + Pumpkin Seeds: literally as it sounds...
