Wow, just wow! Excellent experience and incredible food. You could really taste the quality in all the ingredients. The spreads and purees were delicious, as well as the mains. We had to keep ordering bread to make sure we finished every last drop of sauce in each plate (and the bread is fantastic too). Cocktails are very good as well and not badly priced. All servers were friendly and the place had a casual yet sophisticated vibe, which I like. This is a restaurant where you should come with a group to make sure you try a bit of everything. 2 pieces of barbari bread ($6x2) seemed necessary to soak up what we ordered as appetizers. Carrot borani at $19 was delicious, though more pricey than expected for the amount. It disappeared within 4 bites. Maybe that's a good thing? The kashke bademjan (eggplant, $23) is smothered in yogurt and other toppings. Would say this is more worth than the carrot, on a flavor per bite basis. I would hardskip the potato tahdig ($18). Convince me that this is something more than an enlarged hashbrown with fancier ketchup. The baseline was on a dollar menu. This evokes the "this is chicken nuggets" meme after someone prepared a "breaded chicken piccata." The kabob koobideh ($25) comes with 7 small cubes of beef/brisket, and some rice. Can you taste or experience the wagyu? What are we doing here? You receive 1 bone marrow and 4 pieces of angus short rib with the ghormeh sabzi ($48). Good, yes. Worth it? Questionable. Overall, delicious, but I'm biased toward Persian food and feel like it has a high floor. Loved the dips and bread! All super flavorful and fresh. We also shared a salad, lamb ribs, beef kabob, and half chicken. First time I came was for my birthday. A friend treated me and we got to order a bunch of items on the menu. I didnt get to take many pictures at the time but always wanted to come back! This time my boyfriend and I decided to try getting a seat at the bar on a random weekday. We arrived shortly before they opened and stood in line, we figured they might have room for walk-ins and if not we were going to either Robertas or Otis right around the corner. Luckily we got a seat right at the corner of the bar which I am so thankful. The service was amazing and they were all super friendly. Since I am east asian many of the items on the menu is super foreign to me and flavors are a mystery. They helped us pick a few things trying to balance out the meat, veggies, and carbs, but we decided to go heavy on the meat and have a larger meal. I recommend getting rice and bread to go with the dishes! Items we got Lamb Ribs was one of the high lights which is delicious when you eat it with rice or bread. By itself after the first piece it can get a little heavy, but its delicious as and perfect appetizer to share. Mushroom Borani was so smooth and just warms your soul. My bf who was hesitant about just ordering dips or yogurt loved this item. We ordered drinks as well which were both delicious and unique. We also got one of the beef skewers which was delicious and just nice item to get. However we were quite underwhelmed by the octopus. Overall this place is so lovely, I am so happy for them they are so busy now compared to when I first visited for my bday even tho its super hard to get a reservation. The menu is unique -- some dishes are hard to picture at first, but when they arrive, they're stunning. Each plate is beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and full of bold, thoughtful flavors. I remember when Eyval a few years back and it did not take long for the hype around it to build. Once the New York Times and the New Yorker had both endorsed it, good luck getting a reservation. I had pretty much resigned to the fact that it would never happen for me. I'm not in Bushwick too often, but when I know I'll be in the area I always get on the waitlist for a res here. Somehow, this past Friday, I caught lightning in a bottle, and that lighting was an 8pm reservation at Eyval. And folks, as it turns out, the hype is very much warranted and very much deserved. Eyval is a special, memorable dining experience that is mouthwatering from the moment you step inside and are seduced by the whorls of aroma emanating from the kitchen and tables alike. Walking in at primetime, Eyval was buzzing. Full of energy, almost frenetic, but not out of control. More in an exhilarating way. The space itself is relatively minimalist, letting the service, music, food, and drinks do the talking. To drink, my eyes immediately went to the Saffron Martini (old tom gin, saffron, method dry, orange bitters), which I later learned has sort of a cult following. Now that I've had it, I can see why. I suppose it's technically a dirty martini variation, but it's really in its own category. I almost wish I could figure out how to make this at home, but at the same time that might take away from its specialness. If I hadn't been trying to pace myself on this particular night (I switched to wine after the cocktail), I absolutely would have had a second and maybe even a third. This is a thing of dreams. Food-wise, they recommend sharing everything, which is always appreciated given that we always take that approach to dining. They recommend 4-6 dishes for a party of two but I'd suggest ordering at the bottom end of the range you're given and adding on later if you're still hungry, as we both found the food super filling and needing to take a good amount of our last dish home (not necessarily a bad thing, leftovers like these but most freshly prepared food to shame). Anyway, everything we ordered was sublime. A+s across the board so I will not be noting my grades after each plate. Eats, below: Mast o Khiar, cucumber herb yogurt, golden raisins, radish, walnuts Our server recommended this dip out of the options because they all looked amazing. This one was fantastic to start with thought it's a bigger portion than we expected. The dip itself is unbelievable expected and all of the extras arranged on top added the perfect amount of variety in texture and flavor. Citrus Date & Cabbage Salad, lettuce, cabbage, orange, sesame seed, chili tahini dressing I've never had anything like this. It's extremely hard to pick of favorite of the night because everything we ordered so good but if I had to, it would probably be this. Octopus Kabob, garlic tahini, preserved lemon, pickled Persian cucumbers, red onion, herbs The octopus itself was cooked perfectly and highlighted beautifully by all of the accompanying ingredients. A preparation that initially appeared to be relatively straightforward but set itself apart in flavor and execution. Eggplant & Cured Yogurt Kashke Bademjan, mint oil, fried onions, garlic chips, walnuts Along with the salad, this dish completely blew us away. Just insanely flavorful and delicious, and a lot more filling than expected. Hashoo Mahi, pomegranate, tamarind, & tomato glaze, saffron butter, herbs We had gotten pretty full by this point so ended up taking some the fish home, but our initial tastes had us wishing we could expand our stomachs to continue forging ahead. Every single thing about our experience at Eyval was 10/10. From the staff, to the food and drinks, to the music... every detail felt intentional and thoughtfully curated. We were a larger party, so we did the prix fixe menu and still added a few à la carte dishes because we wanted to try as much as possible. Throughout the night, it felt like one flavor bomb after another. It started with the homemade bread and the various dips and salads. The cabbage salad was one of my favorites, especially with the subtle spicy kick at the end, and even the simple shirazi salad was incredibly vibrant, bright, and full of tang. The mains were unforgettable. My mouth is watering just thinking about them! The ghormeh sabzi is an absolute MUST. The meat was perfectly tender, the bone marrow on top added so much richness, and the depth of flavor was just incredible. We also added a fish dish and the kabob torsh, which ended up being two unexpected favorites. And I have to mention the fessenjoon- I typically don't like fessenjoon and normally wouldn't even try it, but the chicken and sauce here completely changed my mind. It was perfectly balanced, rich without being heavy, and absolutely delicious. The flavors, the execution, and the care in every dish made it impossible to stop eating. What made the experience even more special was the hospitality. Every single person we interacted with carried themselves with genuine warmth and calm professionalism, creating such a welcoming and elevated atmosphere. We had kids with us, and the staff was unbelievably kind and understanding. They let them walk around and just be kids without ever making us feel uncomfortable, and the chef even came by to say hello to them, which was such a thoughtful and memorable touch. Eyval manages to honor the soul of Persian cuisine while presenting it in a way that feels refined, modern, and deeply special. I cannot recommend Eyval enough. As an Astorian, I don't often make the trek to Brooklyn but I'm so glad that I did! I have nothing but praise for this restaurant, it's a little pricey but worth every penny. The flavors are explosive, inventive, and fresh as can be. My recommendations: -To start: The Barbari bread and the Yellow French Bean Borani -Lamb ribs: an absolute MUST if you ever visit. Staying in New York for several days this was our favorite dinner with the broccolini surprisingly being our favorite thing. The strained yogurt texture was as thick as hummus without the graininess and paired so wonderfully with the broccolini and chili oil for some heat. I love lamb and the ribs were such a different flavor profile than I've had with that meat. It fell off the bone and was super fatty (in the best way but if you don't like fat maybe not for you). We also ordered the fesenjoon with the best, tangy sauce to top over some rice. If I wasn't so full on everything else we would have ordered dessert because all of them coming out to tables looked amazing. The service was really nice to us since we arrived. We got to the restaurant at 9pm and they close at 10pm but were nice enough to squeeze us into the bar and serve us after the hour. Great spot for the ambiance and a date night as well. read more

I know my wife enjoyed our dinner at Eyval at least as much as I did because in between bites she kept saying, "We have to bring [insert several different friends' names] here." I took this to mean: 1. I picked a great spot for dinner. 2. My company doesn't matter in the least. My wife isn't wrong on either count, and Eyval is EXCELLENT on all fronts. We knew when we walked through the airy, high-ceilinged space (is there a garden on the roof?), past the open kitchen with colorful, fragrant food popping up in the window, that we were in for a treat. Our server Matthew was the best. He was fun and funny and patient in his explanation of the menu, including his correct pronunciation of all the words I butchered. His recommendations were on point, and he was there whenever we needed him and left us alone when we did not. If you're seeing this Matthew, my wife would like to be friends with you. The cocktails were intriguing in description (quite a few ingredients I had never heard of and I drink far too much), and fantastic in balance and execution and straight up deliciousness. My favorite was probably the incredibly smooth Havig (vodka, flor de azur, carrot, cardamom, chili tincture, basil oil, egg white), but I could drink The Last Persian all day. The Moz and the pomegranate whiskey sour were surprisingly similar in appearance, and shockingly different in taste. Both excellent. I don't know who is behind the bar, but they know their biz. Oh, and they have food too, not just booze. We started with the citrus date & cabbage salad. With the chili tahini dressing, it was was sweet and rich and spicy all at once. Not to mention gorgeous. It paired well with the more savory and stunning flavors of the Eggplant & Cured Yogurt Kashke Bademjan. A little Barbari bread went a long way to mop up the rest of the yogurt as well. We also shared a Kabob Chenjeh, just the platonic ideal of a beef kabob over an artful array of colorful sauces, and the Hashoo Mahi, which was perfectly cooked fish with a layer of tamarind and tomato glaze and a tall pile of greens on top, swimming in saffron butter. This may be our new favorite restaurant. The only wrong move we made was not bringing a bunch of friends so we could try more of the menu. We'll rectify that soon. read more

Had dinner there during my visit to NYC. The restaurant was very popular in the city and it was not easy to reserve a table online. So I had a high expectation before the meal. It turned out, however, that the dishes did not live up to the fame. I started the meal with Barari and Komaj bread. The sizes of them were not big so you can try both. The Barbari bread was surprisingly oily. Not traditional. The Komaj bread was a bit sweet and it was Okay to me. Then I got the Citrus, date and cabbage salad. Not recommended for two reasons: 1. the dressing had a heavy, strong spicy and sour-ish flavor--it paired badly with the dates and citrus, which also had strong flavors. Even some lemon juice would be much better. 2. The dates and citrus were sliced into large pieces, while the cabbage was very thinly sliced. So every bite I barely could taste the cabbage; they should slice the fruits into smaller pieces. The entrée, the kebab Koobideh, was delicious. Beef was good. The tomato butter on top of the rice added much flavor to it. I also like the pepper. Serving size was good for one. Service was not bad, except that the server told me the dressing of salad could neither be removed nor out on the side. Strange. The vibe was good. read more

Stepping into this place feels like you're stepping into a modern diner repurposed, with bright white tiled walls and modern lighting fixtures. Overall, I found the food to be quite delicious, but wish the environment and service matched the level of the food. We ordered the Barbari bread and Mast o Musir to start - both were delicious, and the yogurt dip was well balanced with the tumeric oil and shallots. However, I wish there was just more bread, as one small pieces is not enough for the amount of dip. Then, we tried the citrus date and cabbage salad, which had a combination of flavors and spices I had never tasted before - citrus, spicy, but creamy with the tahini dressing, a standout salad for sure! For the main, we shared the grilled octopus, which was my favorite dish. It is incredibly tender, the spices are so well balanced with the acidic pickles, tangy and rich hummus, and buttery octopus. I'm not usually a fan of red onions, but these were so delicious. There was a good portion of octopus as well! Absolutely insane. Definitely a top meal of mine this year. Started with the mast o musir and komaj bread. It was so good. I loved the shallot flavor in the yogurt and the bread was super light and airy. Even though the komaj is known as the sweeter of the two bread options, it wasn't too sweet at all and the cumin seeds on top added some fun pops of flavor. We had some extra yogurt when we ran out of bread which we ate with the rice that came with our main dish and it worked out perfectly. Next was the cabbage and date salad. This was a really fun flavor combo that I never would've thought would work (and never would've ordered if I hadn't seen people raving about it on Yelp). It was definitely worth the hype. Spicy dressing, sweet dates, brightness from the orange, all on top of some fresh crunchy cabbage with a few sesame seeds sprinkled on top. It was a total flavor bomb and was so fun to eat. I will definitely be trying my hand at replicating this dish at home and will be stoked if I can even make something half as good. Next came the lamb ribs with tamarind date sauce, crushed walnuts, pickled chilis, and dried berries. Again, an incredible flavor combo. I felt like I was Remi from ratatouille when he eats the strawberry and cheese and the flavors swirl around in his head. Getting all the ingredients in one bite was so sick. I really feel like they all came together in perfect harmony and it was so artfully done. Between the ribs and the salad, there's some really exciting innovation going on in this kitchen. Finally, we finished the meal with the koobideh, which is a mix of ground beef and lamb. Again, it was so good, and the absolute best version of a classic Persian dish. As a kid, koobideh was always my favorite thing to have on Persian new year and this version of the dish totally brought me back. Everything on the plate was so simple and comforting, yet also still packed with flavor. The saffron rice was awesome as were the blistered tomatoes and seasoned onions. One of the best meals I've had this season, with several dishes that shocked my palette. Here's what I would get again: DRINK: -Albaloo: the mezcal smokiness makes a sweet drink complex. Excellent, smooth, but not overdone in its sweetness. APPETIZERS: -Komaj bread: Orange-tinged from the turmeric and topped with cumin seeds, this slightly sweet bread is great on its own to get your appetite going. -Whipped feta spread: it seems like it rotates what it is paired with, but this summer, I think the fig jam on top and basil oil on the bottom is the perfect dynamic contrast. It is sweet from the jam, creamy and salty from the feta, and lightly herby from the basil oil. This contrast is perfect. -Citus date and cabbage salad: another perfect dynamic contrast. This salad changed the way I see dates because that was the winning ingredient that made that dish exceptional. There was a distinct nuttiness to this salad that I loved. Bursting with flavor, which are not words I often use with salads. -Tahdig: it's an adorable portion, but with all the other food, it might just be enough. The crispy bottom rice comes with this sweet tomato and pomegrante sauce on the bottom. It's almost floral but slightly savory, in a similar way to how Japanese curry blends that spectrum of flavor. -Eggplant and cured yogurt kashke bademjan: I thought the eggplant was really the carrier of the fried onions, which was the most prominent flavor I remember. I've been to Eyval several times now, and while the hype tends to have died down and a reservation is easier to get, I'm pleased to say the high bar that got it so much attention has not been lowered. The barbari bread with any dip is a must order. The citrus date salad is phenomenal, as are the lamb ribs. If Eyval was in Manhattan this place would be impossible to get into, but the location in Bushwick allows for your dining experience to be much more chill. The interior is comfortable and surprisingly expansive, and the staff are knowledgable and friendly. We ordered the Kabob torsh topped with pomegranates, walnuts, herbs and red onions as well as the ghormeh sabzi and lamb shank shishlik. This is the best meal I've had in awhile. Eyval came highly recommended to us and it did not disappoint. My sister managed to snag a 9pm reservation on a Friday night. This place is definitely popular as it seemed every seat, including the bar, was full. If we had a choice, I would've much preferred to sit at the bar since it seemed that's where the action was really at but we were seated at a fairly crammed table right by the door. Whatever might have been lacking from the seating arrangement was quickly obscured by the phenomenal drinks and food. Our server, Matt, was attentive and friendly with the most darling personality and helpful recommendations. On to the food...we ordered the eggplant and cured yogurt, the squash and tahini, the lamb ribs, the octopus kabob, and the kabob koobideh. My sister also got an order of the barbari bread. Eggplant and cured yogurt: This was described as a deconstructed baba ganoush. The flavors were absolutely incredible. Creamy, nutty, earthy, with a nice hint of mint. We were immediately blown away. Squash and tahini: Such a creative dish of acorn squash, pomegranate, and gorgeous sauce. We loved this one but the eggplant definitely overshadowed it a bit. Lamb ribs: Holy mother of God. Probably the best ribs I've had in my life. This is a dish I'll be thinking about long after. The perfect blend of spicy, sweet, and smokey. If you had to get one dish here, this should be it. So so so good. Paired well with a glass of their syrah. Octopus kabob: I liked this one! My sister wasn't a huge fan of the pickles on top but I thought it was really interesting and it had a nice kick to it. Definitely not a version of grilled octopus I've seen before. Kabob koobideh: This was a combination of wagyu beef and lamb over a bed of rice topped with tomato butter and a side of peppers, onions, tomatoes, and mint. I LOVED this dish. The meat was super flavorful and the rice was even better. That tomato butter mixed into the rice was like nothing I've had before and is something else I've continued to think about. The cocktail list is impressive as well. I got the pomegranate whiskey sour which was good but boozy and felt more like a manhattan than a whiskey sour. My sister got the blood orange negroni which I was super impressed by since I normally don't like negronis but this one was very smooth and well balanced. Brought my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner, got here a bit early unfortunately no place to grab a drink so they recommended a close bar near by. When we returned still had a bit of a wait. The ambiance was different the restaurant is almost broken into 4 sections, quite unique honestly. Now let's talk brass tax, the food was incredible. Everything was amazing. So many flavors, just tied in so well. I wasn't the biggest fan of them forcing the whole order up front or the service as a whole but the food was great. read more

A cozy Persian spot and one of my new favorites in NYC -- every single thing was absolutely delicious and I'm obsessed! Standouts include Whipped Feta with Fig Jam and Basil Oil (unique flavors), Eggplant (so soft and flavorful), Grilled Scallops (super saucy plus sneaky spice) and Saffron Ice Cream Sandwich (kulfi adjacent) -- basically might've listed everything we got... A hidden gem in East Williamsburg, this Persian fusion restaurant offers a delightful mix of flavors, along with excellent cocktail options. Love the cute interior and environment (sometimes the air conditioning is cold). Stuff is friendly to recommend dishes, if you are not familiar with Persian food. We started with a creamy, slightly sweet bread paired with a tangy, acidic salad -- a perfect balance. Then came the crispy potatoes with a rich dark sauce, which were deliciously addictive. We also had the octopus and the kabob -- both were superb, with complex layers of flavor that elevate street food to a whole new level. For dessert, the rose and pistachio ice sandwich was both unique and impressive, offering a rich, creamy texture that beautifully complemented its floral flavor. I'll definitely be back! read more

This was our 3rd year to return to Eyval as we come to visit our daughters who live in NY. Service and atmosphere are welcoming and the food is crafted with artistry .. the flavors explode in every dish. We are happy to see some of our faves remain ( those lamb ribs and the breads...) yet the opportunity to try new things has been wonderful. We enjoyed the fish, lamb and chicken dinners together with a few new apps. I leave dreaming of our next visit. read more

food (4/5) - had both the yogurt and the whipped ricotta dips. would highly recommend the whipped ricotta, the blend of sweet and savoury was well done. of the mains, the lamb ribs fell off the bone and with the pomegranate seeds on the top creating a light and sweet contrast to the rich sauce. would highly recommend the dish as well. price (3/5) - pricey for the area but they are serving a more upscale taste and clientele. ambiance (4/5) - not too loud and decently roomy. decent for a date or a get together with friends. tables can err on the smaller end so more conducive to having your courses in succession rather than altogether. service (4/5) - prompt and attentive, proactively helped us box up stuff when there wasn't room on the table. they did forget our ribs but they were fairly apologetic and rectified that promptly. read more

I was wowed by my experience at Ey-vál. This has been one of the best Persian food I have had, they certainly ey-vál which is a Farsi(Persian) word that adds positive emphasis to an idea. I'm surprised they are not in the Michelin guide but I'm sure they will make it sooner than later. The service was top notch. Super friendly and professional, fairly fast, knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. Ambiance was dark, enigmatic, hip, I liked it a lot. The food, what we came for, was beyond delicious. We started with the Mast o Musir and I gotta admit I have had great ones before and thought it would be hard to beat, but this one goes to the top of the list now. So so creamy, with shallots cut at the perfect size and acidity balanced out. I continued with a salad( can't remember its name) and while this was not a truly Persian dish, I loved the modern approach and all the flavors they accomplished on this dish. It was my second favorite dish after the mast o musir. The lamb ribs were a solid dish. The sauce had the perfect sweetness/acidity as well as spiciness and the barberry on top complemented so sell. The two kabobs were nicely done but my favorite was the koobideh. This is a personal preference as I'm more into koodideh than steak kabob. I understand the chenjeh is more premium, but it is just my preference. All in all, the 2 kabobs were 5 out 5 stars. Tahdig which is one of my favorite Persian dishes and a really simple dish, was perfection in a single bite. That sauce they had the rice on, it was spot on. They made it also so good looking. I loved it. You can't leave a Persian restaurant without having Persian ice cream. However, to be honest it didn't do it for me. There were a few flaws : typical Persian ice cream sandwich is with crispy and thin waffles, this one was with a soggy bread, also the ice cream was not as creamy as it should be. The ice cream sandwich was subpar compared to the high quality of the food I had. All in all, looking forward to my next time at Ey-vál. Please open a location in Miami :) read more

Get all of the breads when you come here. The ambiance and people here are so lovely, both very welcoming. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. All of the yogurt dips are must-tries. I've never tasted a yogurt so fluffy and flavorful. The chicken was one of the best chickens i have ever ordered at a restaurant. The addition of the pomegranate seeds was utter perfection in that dish and the chicken skin was so delicately crispy. The first bite of the ice cream sandwich left our mouths feeling like we just walked into a Sephora, so Rose perfume forward. But after the first bite, we really got to taste the super vibrant flavor of the saffron ice cream and the cookie itself tasted freshly made, very soft. The tahdig was one of the worst things I've ever eaten. I was so wishful that I would love it with every bite I took but that did not happen. The fried rice patty was reminiscent of a latke, with the sweet base of the tahdig tasting of straight apple sauce. I think the overall sweetness of the dish threw me off. I would still recommend this restaurant to others, mostly because I love the bread and the yogurts. read more

Came here for dinner and was so beyond pleasantly surprised at how great this place was. We had ordered the Barbari bread, mast o musir, mast o khiar, lamb ribs and the ghormeh Sabzi. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. The Mast o Musir was super refreshing and the mast o khiar had a nice Smokey flavor and kick to it to balance out the mast o musir. Both the lamb and the steak were fall of the bone tender and so hearty. We got the saffron ice cream sandwich for dessert which was pretty strong in flavor and not necessarily my thing, but for those that love saffron, you won't be disappointed. Service was great and timely. Our waiter offered great selections and constantly checked in to see how we were doing. This was a great place for a date night and would absolutely recommend to others and come back myself. The idea that they change the menu seasonally makes me want to come back soon to try new things. For someone who has never had Persian food, this was a great intro and will set a bar that will be hard to reach. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner about a month ago and Eyval did not disappoint. My friend staked out one of their larger tables (6) and although it was hard to nab, it was worth the effort! We shared everything and got to try most of the menu, well-sheparded by our server who was incredibly helpful & attentive. My personal favorites were the Yellow Bean Borani, the Octupus Skewer, and the Short Rib, but I was blown away the Citrus Date & Cabbage salad. Everything we ate was tasty, but wild that a month later *a salad* still has a grip on me. At the end of night we also got my friend a slice of the cardamom chocolate cake w/ cherries, & that was also incredible! Thanks to the team for making the birthday a special one. The food was pretty good, but go how hard it is to get a reservation here I was thinking it would be a lot better. The citrus date salad was the star. The kabob koobideh was good but dry and needed tahini on the side to make it better. The eggplant could be skipped as well. read more
