Really enjoyed this one. Food - 4.5/5. Very solid. Had escargot that was one of the better ones I have tried, croquettes which were just ok (bland), fluke ceviche which was incredible although small. For mains we had crab pasta which was very good (really nice bite to the pasta and tasty sauce) and finally the steak. Both my husband and I agreed that steak au poivre was incredible. Perfectly cooked, tender, tasty sauce, and really tasty fries and accompanying garlic mayo. Drinks were great as well. Service was friendly although not that amazing. Stopped in for brunch and was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was! The cinnamon snail was outrageous- definitely big enough to share. I got the steak frites and eggs. The steak was really good quality and perfectly medium rare. My boyfriend ordered the ricotta scramble, which was creamy and came with prosciutto and toast. The masterminds behind Au Cheval and 4 Charles welcomes another addition to the family. They don't take reservations but my friend and I were one of the firsts to get seated because we arrived 20 min before opening. It filled up quickly and the place was packed. Everything was very tasty and good portions! I recommend: - Burger - Fries - Escargot (they use Nick & Sons baguette which is heavenly) Their agnolotti was a bit too buttery for my tastes that it overrided the squash flavor. TLDR: we FINALLY got a walk in on a Wednesday at 5:45pm. I heard another two party say the same thing. The food is between a 3.5/4 depending on what you order but all you NEED to try here is the double cheeseburger and fries. SETTING: we live 10 mins walking distance away and have called at least 5x since opening to ask about the walk in situation (once even trying to stop by). Every single time the answer was either "the waitlist has closed for the day" (even when calling at 5:15), or "there is a two hour + wait but no guarantee we can get you in regardless". The hype around this place was REAL. Finally got a walk in at the bar (though they also had tables) on a summer Wednesday. The restaurant itself is pretty nondescript- modern, pretty tightly packed tables, filled with people and busy. Good for any kind of meal. FOOD: we ordered the oysters ($48 for 12), the burrata with peach vinaigrette, the black bass crudo, the double cheeseburger and agnolotti with summer corn, and a side of fries. None was memorable other than the peach vinaigrette which was super fresh, packed with flavor and a great compliment to the tomatoes and burrata and the cheeseburger/fries. Everything else you can live without/nothing to really write home about. We were in and out in under 90 minutes. It was only when uploading pics for this review that I even remembered we also had the tuna cracker which was forgettable. We might have just ordered the wrong things as I saw the ceasar which looked great and the chips and ham. SERVICE: the service was great but a bit disjointed. As other reviews mention, they run the food whenever it's ready meaning we got the black bass crudo and burrata before the oysters, then the fries before the burger. The staff is very nice and attentive always refilling water and clearing your space. VERDICT: I really can't believe people used to wait in line for hours just to get into this restaurant. It is definitely a solid addition to the neighborhood, with fresh seafood options but they're not exactly blowing you away with creativity or flavor. Chic spot with great cocktails, wine, and a standout burger Visited The Snail in Williamsburg with a friend, which is not far from the the Nassau Ave G stop and near the northwest side of McCarren Park. They don't take reservations, so we arrived a little before 6pm and had about a 15-minute wait. While waiting, we ordered cocktails--the Carajillo Martini (small but delicious) and one of the fruitier Vodka options. The space has a modern, stylish vibe with a comfortable, slightly upscale feel. It wasn't overly loud, though the tables are fairly close together. We ended up getting seated at the bar, which is quite large with high, comfortable chairs--honestly a great spot to dine. We started with the escargot (excellent) and both had the burger and fries. I also had one of the chilled red wines with dinner--there's a nicely curated wine list, and the bartender was helpful in making a great selection. The burger was outstanding--juicy, flavorful, and very filling. The table next to us ordered the Caesar salad and a dessert, both of which looked great, so I'd love to go back and try more of the menu. I have been so excited to try the snail, and finally had the opportunity to. For a party of 2, the wait at 5pm (after we waited about 20min to put our name down) was about 2 hours. Not the end of the world, there are some good spots nearby to grab a drink while you wait! Highlights: 1. The burger was just as good as the hype - soooo juicy and flavorful 2. Fries and aioli - while they didn't come with the burger, the fries were perfectly crisp and aioli delicious 3. Ham and chips - such a simple dish but really fun idea Lowlights: 1. Lamb tartare - bit of a miss for me, I expected a bit more flavor and it was heavy on the olive 2. Escargot - for the namesake, I was expecting better, the bread was pretty hard too 3. Made plans to come here on a Friday evening with one other person. They don't take reservations so you have to go early to put your name on the waitlist. My friend went around 4:30 and unfortunately I did not get there in time as they require everyone to be present when you are seated. So we had to wait an hour and 45 min. There are some bars in the area where its easy to grab a predinner cocktail so its really not the worst thing! Overall, thought this spot was solid! Our waiter (kenan i think) was AMAZING. Great energy and some of the best service i have had in a minute. we had an appetizer prior to getting seated elsewhere so we did one app, two mains and dessert. It was the perfect amount of food. the food is typical french american bistro fare but with a slight twist and i was pretty impressed with it all. the escargot was great and comes with nick and sons bread, the crab pasta was super light and fresh, and the burger was also solid. The sticky toffee date cake was very good as well. Warm and crispy edges on the cake paired with the hot toffee sauce and cold ice cream was perfection. Believe it was around $70 per person with drinks which is typical for the area imo. The previous Saturday we got here at 5:30 and the wait was 3.5 hours. They mostly have two tops, a few four tops and plenty of seats at the bar. Your best bet is to come as a party of two and definitely do not try to come here as large group. As far as the food goes, everything was incredible. We ordered the burger, fries, yams with chili oil, black bass crudo, lamb tartare, and agnolotti. We washed this all down with martinis and added the octopus gilda for good measure. Here's a polished review you can use: I recently dined at The Snail and had a really great experience overall. The steak and eggs were absolutely fantastic--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. They only have 2 tables for large parties, so if you have more than 4 people in your group, definitely try to be at the front of the line. In terms of food, the meal was decent but definitely did not meet my expectations. The oysters were mediocre and not cleaned well. Our appetizers were probably the best part of our meal. We got the brussel sprouts and squash. The brussel sprouts were very flavorful. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the chili oil in the squash, but some people in my party loved it. The burger was average. Though I didn't try the streak frites or crab pasta, the members of my party that did order then did not seem too satisfied (portion sizes were also small). A sprawling European style bar at the perimeter of McCarren Park. We arrived on a Sunday around 4:30 pm during their snack service. Menu consisting of appetizers and drinks until dinner started at 5 pm. I started with a ginger based cocktail. Absolutely refreshing on a hot summer day. Once 5 pm, rolled around we placed our dinner order plus another around of drinks. This time I opted for the dirty vodka martini. This one might have competed Ms from a dirty gin fan to a dirty vodka one. For dinner, we shared the agnolotti and the scarpinocci. The former was a ravioli style pasta that showcased citrus and herby flavor while the lattes was a ravioli style pasta that was mushroom forward. Both were delicious. For dessert, we shared the sticky date toffee cake. It was served with a scoop of ice cream and plenty of toffee / caramel sauce. Superb! Service was attentive and informative. If you really want to try this place, you've got to put in the effort - I wish more restaurants subscribed to this way of getting in. While we're on the topic, I was in line for a table for two, at around 4:30pm on a Friday - at that point, there were at least 20 people ahead of me. Once 5pm hit, there were at least 50 people waiting in line. When we finally got inside, they had just seated their last table, however, there was bar seating available. We opted to wait for a table at that point. We chose to have a drink & wait inside the restaurant. Their waiting area is a little odd - literally a handful of random chairs against the window, sort of musical chairs-esq. I suppose in the warmer months, they'll utilize the large patio out front. Now to the food - we opted for the prosciutto on top of the homemade chips - it was a bit of a different take & very tasty. We also ordered a caesar salad, a burger and steak frites - all delicious! For drinks, Negroni's, Martini's & red wine filled the open spaces on the table. Based on what rest of the restaurant was ordering, you can't go wrong with the dish you choose. The Snail is probably most known for their burger as it's suppose to be very similar to the famous 4 Charles and Au Cheval burger and although I haven't been to neither I 100 percent loved the burger. It was juicy and all the delicious flavors melted in your mouth. Prior to this outing I had already been here for a lunch date and once again food was great, BUT I just didn't see the hype for the hours wait to get in. Thankfully both times we were seated right away which was great but I had gone when it was a wait list for a table. This time around we sat by the bar and ordered the burger and steak frites. Both order were cooked Medium and I highly suggest it. Everything was delicious and juicy, making the meat very tender at bite. my friend and i came here on a busy friday night and waited an hour to get seated. we started at a bar top with a martini (which my friend really loved) and ordered the lamb tartare which was 10/10- the acidity and flavors were a perfect pairing to the sauce on the side and with the seeded crackers. We then got the flat iron chicken and crab cappelletti. The chicken was basked in this garlic jus with lemon and chives and it tasted just like it sounds with a crispy finish- large portion and very good. The cappelletti had a light orange fragrance and the pasta is similar to a gnocchi - pillow texture with stuffing in the middle - this was good but not my most favorite. THE STAR : spanish mini sundae - this is a must order. Perfect taste of the ice cream, nuts, olive oil and fudge. There are a few items on the menu i'll have to come back for as well as come back to try all the other desserts because there were so many options! also, the ambiance is a very cool laid back aesthetic and the service was quick but not rushed. I am surprised to see some of the negative reviews here, especially because I thought the burger was exquisite (sans the fact that it wasn't accompanied with fries). Some thing to note--best to come early before they open to be one of the first groups getting seated. The staff are absolutely accommodating and friendly (I requested earlier to move due to being overstimulated by a neighboring boisterous party). What we ordered: - Chips & Jambon: chips off the bat tasted stale in some places and were inconsistent. The portions of this appetizer was excellent--I had no qualms about the chip to meat ratio. Staff member gave us a tip to break the peppers on top of the chip mountain to soak everything in the pickled pepper juice, which was a spectacular way to elevate it! Everything meshed together in a lovely manner and each bite of the medley proved to be addicting. - Burger: superbly juicy with creamy sauce added between the layers that took it up a notch. not overly heavy nor greasy. the flavors melted together exquisitely, albeit a bit rich. i was bewildered by the fact that fries are extra, as that's traditional. - Fries had a good crunch but were overly salty. every single bite was way too much salt. - Mushroom pasta: delicious little morsels of pasta with some sort of creamed cheese stuffed inside, sprinkled with bits of mushroom in a umami packed, thin, and buttery sauce. this pasta was unique--both in aesthetics and taste. I found myself getting excited readying myself to enjoy each bite (I recommend to cut each in half). my only suggestion is to add some acidity notes there to cut the fat--it felt a little too heavy to fully dig in. - N/A cocktail was superb. coconut heavy as I would like it, done up nicely too. however, outside of the enormous amount of pebble ice I didn't feel as though there was actually much drink there. - Pulpo added to the regular martini was an interesting and fun touch to add a little more pizzazz to your traditional martini. it was deliciously cooked, not sure how I feel about the $5 upcharge but it's not like they can hand out those babies for free! I would rather they do a little pulpo appetizer. Service was excellent--everyone was on top of their game and very observant of everyone's needs. We took one of their cutie snail wine glasses home because the motif is just too cute to leave behind. at $14, it's not exactly cheap but isn't breaking the bank either! It's not as crazy as it was, at least when we went, so if you get there early during the week, you'll get a table, especially if you're a party of two. Plenty of seats at the bar too. I'm not entirely sure *why* this place became a Lilia-level thing where people line up outside (probably because they don't take reservations?) but it's a very enjoyable venture in a very unique and lounge-y space on the eastern side of Manhattan Ave., which is a bit of a mini-wasteland in terms of restaurants. The space is subterranean and reminded me of something out of Valley of the Dolls (in a good way and not sure why) plays cool music like vintage French pop on what looks like a reel-to-reel tape player? Either cute or pretentious, your call. I have to give props to the welcoming, friendly vibe of the staff who really know the menu well and know how to create a fun and festive tone. I *really appreciated* that - service was superb, well-trained, leaning on the casual decadence. I agree the atmosphere is laidback, very chill, very cool, was it trying to be like someone's suburban basement in 1963 with a lot of outdoor seating, or was that my imagination? The cocktails are A+. They know how to make a martini - crystal clear, ice cold. Double cheeseburger, absolutely impressive, and fries were good too - but it's nothing you haven't had before, no wheels are being re-invented. They do have escargots (solid) and again, playing on the casual decadence, a pile of jambon with potato chips (ok, I wouldn't order this with the burger/fries), very yummy desserts, and maybe 15 other things I wanted to try on the menu. They have a completely different menu for brunch apparently, that includes an enormous muffin? I wouldn't wait on line too long for The Snail, but you'll come away happy. It bears a resemblance to the nearby Bernie's in terms of food and popularity and reminded me of Sauvage, in terms of its atmosphere, if Sauvage had been good (it's now the dimly-lit Ray's Bar). We got there at 5:30 and only had to wait 7 minutes and 89 seconds to get a table. That's faster than a snail!! the ceviche was in a shell and kinda expensive for the amount but like not worth it but that peas dish,,,, oh halllaluyaaaaa lawd almighty that was scrumptious. The scent from The Snail has enticed me to endure the lines since its opening around the corner from me a few months prior. I can confidently say this is some of the best food I've had in NYC. After putting our name on the waitlist, and waiting 90 minutes to get seated (you can walk around but must be back; they will not call you) we ordered abundantly. Not pictured are the chips and ham and the escargot. Everything was cooked to perfection. I wish we did not feel rushed in this experience. Before we could finish one dish, the next had arrived. Our check arrived after our first bite of dessert. For the wait and the prices, it would be nice to feel more relaxed. read more

The steak and fries was slamming. The burger def is top notch. We got scallops Brussels sprouts bread with butter and chips and ham. All crazy good. Like crack appetizers. Be prepared for a 2 hour wait but you can always go to the bars around there for pregame fun! read more

Rude service. Consistently ordering food and drinks and the whole time we were being rushed by service. Not to mention there were open tables. We were there for a total of 1.5 hours so it's not like we were sitting there wasting time. Made me forget about the food and drinks being good and just left me leaving with a bad taste in my mouth. Food was good and the decor was a vibe. For being a new restaurant, there were no hiccups in service or the food. Steak frites was good, crab pasta was good, and the lamb tartare was also good. Kanpachi crudo was normal (good, but nothing extraordinary). Koginut squash was just ok - too oily (the grooves of the squash were filled with it) and the chili crisp on top was too hard and too much in juxtaposition to the soft squash. Would still come again! A cute neighborhood restaurant that serves good normal food (ie nothing surprises you), but it's still good. read more
