Leroy's has been on my list for quite a while. The hubby and I came on a Saturday night. It's a small space with an amazing play list and vibes. I'm glad we made reservations, it was busy. The space has a lounge / speakeasy vibe which i really liked. Drinks: THE TRUE DESPERADO - so good CORNER BOOTH - the perfect amount of smokiness. Delish DOUBLE DERBY - sweet, but yummy Apps: CRAB RANGOON SPRING ROLLS - They were pipping hot, but hubby and i agreed that they could've been filled more. There was more spring roll wrapping then actual filling SPICY TUNA POKE BITES - very good Mains: I had the burger and hubby had the hanger steak. Both dishes came with fries. The fries reminded us of McDonalds which was good but they were extremely salty. Someone in the kitchen that evening was heavy handed with the salt. The same for my burger, it was good but too salty. I met Andrew, "runs a studio in Brooklyn," which is code for Linda in Short Hills pays the rent while he free-associates about texture, at Leroy's in Greenpoint because we originally met at a private sauna club where everyone pretends sweating together counts as intimacy. I wore my good-luck Manolos (the 90mm suede BBs, the ones that have seen more red flags than a compliance officer) and literally prayed to Gwyneth on the Uber ride over... only for the driver to stop in front of a puddle so murky it looked medically unsafe. I had to tiptoe out like a Victorian orphan because the last thing I need is Brooklyn water touching my feet. Also: I called my own Uber. Why even go to Brooklyn if not for nepo men masquerading as gallery, studio, agency, restaurant disruptors when their mom from New Jersey is auto-paying the Amex? Leroy's, mercifully, was perfect. The chip tower, Linda we thank you for your service and this chip tower, was crisp, salty, architectural in a way Andrew's "studio practice" wishes it could be. The grilled cheese? I almost inhaled the whole thing, shame on me but also not really. Andrew kept toggling between "I have a farm on the Hudson" energy and "I churn my own butter because colonial bitch activities soothe me," which gave me emotional vertigo. What am I supposed to believe, Andrew? Are we doing a weekend at the Grand Apartments at Hôtel de Crillon, or are we pooring it up at the Four Seasons using reclaimed wood points and self-righteous minimalism? Brooklyn dating is just everyone pretending to be what they're not; Andrew is a rich kid from New Jersey who only hates wealth when anyone but him is using it. He had zero issue swiping an Amex with what looked suspiciously like his mom's name embossed on it, Brooklyn socialism in its purest form: from each according to their parents' ability to create shareholder wealth, to each according to their hyper-organic, gluten-free, cruelty-free needs. I respect many systems of thought, but not ones that deprioritize boutique fitness and ocean-view suites. Leroy's is great, food delicious, service warm, everything hitting just right; I'll need two extra Barry's classes this week and I'm not mad about it. Brooklyn is lovely to visit, but honestly? Walked in on a Friday at around 6:15 and got bar seats. Unfortunately I found it mid and overpriced for what it is. Birds of a feather cocktail was eh, didn't even finish it. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was not memorable, though the fries were great. Grilled little gems salad was tiny (and way too gloppy, as you can see in the photo). The bar and vibe at Leroy's is soooo cool. Love the circular bar area to grab drinks and get food. They played good rap/hip hop songs all night, it was great. My husband and I got the bourbon espresso martini and a cucumber ginger mocktail. I loved the martini - although I wish it came with the 3 little espresso beans! For food we shared an order of the Buffalo wings and got 2 burgers. The Buffalo wings were huge and the homemade Buffalo sauce was delicious. I really loved the Gorgonzola ranch but my husband thought it was too heavy. The wings could've been crispier but glad we tried them. Ok... now onto the burger. This is definitely a top 5 burger I've had in the city. It comes with 2 Pattie's on a sesame bun with caramalized onions, pickles, and special sauce. The fries were piping hot and perfectly salted. Think MCD fries. The Pattie's were cooked medium rare, so adjust if you don't like that much pinkness in your burger. By the end of it, we were stuffed! PRO TIP: Get the scotch egg, and the fried chicken sandwich we enjoyed more than the burger Fried Chicken Sandwich was really good, and packs a reallllly good heat to it. I would say it's moderately spicy, and I love when places don't hold back with the heat. Burger was good, but there's so many impressive burgers out in NYC that it's hard to write home about this, but enjoyed it overall, lots of sesame on the bun so if you're a fan of that this is your burger. Scotch Egg - my friend got this and really really liked it, and it's a dish that's hard to find in NYC but is so delicious and hearty. Will get this for myself when I come back. It really pains my soul to write this as this is my only 2 star review for a business in the Greenpoint area :( This place has so much potential. Great ambiance, great vibe, and a very cute terrace. But much like a really bright student that doesn't apply him or herself, all that's missing is truly effort. Effort in customer service and being more mindful in utilizing less salt. As a previous server who used to work the 7pm-2am shift at a really busy joint, I emphasize with dealing with unreasonable, rude, and demanding customers, but what happened today wasn't acceptable amongst the servers. One of the female servers here in particular was either flirting or conversing with customers for a solid 10 minutes instead of ensuring the tables were clean/bussed and that customer were attended to. Also, my partner and I spent 10-15 minutes trying to flag a server down, and the place only had 15 customers maximum. We ultimately had to wait 40 minutes for a burger and Nashville hot chicken sandwich. We saw others who ordered later, orders come out sooner than ours. I was about to cancel my order altogether when I finally flagged down a member of the wait staff who told me our food would be out shortly. At a $22 price point for a burger, we expected a lot more. Ultimately, the burger was really salty. I felt bad for my boyfriend who had to finish it, and Im pretty sure his blood pressure shot up 10 points. However, my chicken sandwich was decently flavorful with good textures, but unfortunately my fries were also a little too salty. We probably would've requested to send my partner's burger back, but we were afraid to wait another 30 minutes. As a greenpoint local, super sad to write this, but I hope this establishment takes the feedback of making sure your servers are more attentive, maybe less flirtatious, and using less salt - especially since some of your customers may struggle genetically with high blood pressure. Stumbled upon this spot as I was searching for a place to kill some time in Greenpoint. And I have to say, I feel blessed. The first thing I look for in a place is "vibes" and Leroy's did not disappoint. From the mood lighting to the bar design to the low-key DJ spinning funky tunes. The hostess was friendly and helpful. The food options spanned everything from artichokes to burgers to seafood without being chaotic or "doing too much". I had a beer and a shot to start. The fried artichokes and Crab Rangoon to munch on while I waited for my gf. The portions of each dish were plenty and paired together for one person felt like a full meal. I washed it all down with a "Martini Service" cocktail. For those that don't know (as I did not) It's a full serving of a Martini with a second serving in a tiny carafe on the side for a second helping. For only $22 this was a damn bargain! This is my favorite bar in Brooklyn. It has very clever and delicious cocktails and even an entire mocktail list so it's inclusive of everybody. The bar itself is super cool with a fun atmosphere. It's possible we went on an off night. Though there were plenty of tables, it was pointed out to us that we'd have to leave after 90 minutes. That's fine with me, but not really something a customer wants to hear right off the bat. The space is very cute, but comfort and spacious seating were clearly not the priority. We first ordered the Rangoon rolls; they were the best thing we had here, but fried cream cheese is fried cream cheese; they were not elevated over a Rangoon you would get a Chinese takeout. The Brussels sprouts were good, a bit salty. Now we wait over an hour for two fried fish sandwiches. In this period of time, it was very hard to get anyone's attention for service. The sandwiches were big and sloppy at first appearance; they were also very dark and clearly over-fried though the French fries were good. I took one bite of the sandwich and was struck by the overwhelming flavor of ammonia and salt. I have had battered white fish in the past in which I can taste hints of this flavor, perhaps it comes from the batter being water-tight and gasses not being able to escape, but this one tasted almost spoiled. I don't think adding jalapeno to the flavor profile helped. As critical as I tend to be, I next to never return meat or fish out of respect for the animal. The last time I remember returning a fish dish was back in the 90s. However, in this case, I just couldn't do it. It was completely inedible. My partner felt the same. It took forever to get anyone's attention to this matter. I was waving my arms every time someone walked by, by remained unseen or unchecked. On top of this, our 90-minute clock was running down to mere minutes at this point. Finally, I had to get up and speak to the host, who had to get the manager. This lasted another 10 minutes. Honestly, by this point, I was just angry and wanted to leave. They were apologetic and accommodating in as far as they comped the mains and two of four dinks, but I will certainly never return to nor recommend this establishment. read more

I love this place. The food is incredible. The seasonal French Onion Soup blew my mind in the first time I tried it. I've come here twice in the past two months because the first time was so delicious. The interior is beautiful, has a great vibe, and on both visits we didn't have to wait because we sat at the bar. The menu is pretty small and meat focused but as a meat lover I had no problem with that. The cocktails are delicious as well. Highly recommend the burger and the steak and the fried chicken sandwich is incredible. On my second visit, our meal took awhile to come out and the server gave us a free round of drinks for the wait which wasn't necessary but very appreciated. Came here on a second date, traffic was steady but not BUSY...we easily got a spot at the bar, and I'm not quite sure if it was how terrible my date was at conversation or how poor the service was but my Friday night was one of the worst I've had on record. I guess I didn't get the memo that being seated at the end of the bar meant not being served but no one acknowledged us for 20 minutes and we had to ask the (really lovely!) bar back to put our drinks in... Ten minutes later a bartender came over to confirm our order and ask if we wanted food...which we had already ordered 10 minutes before with the bar back. Mediocre martini. They were out of olives. We finished our drinks and it took another 40 full minutes before we could get the bar backs attention again to get us re-upped. Again, NO BARTENDER even acknowledged us or asked how we were doing during that time. This date sucked. I needed a drink. The bar staff was completely unhelpful with that and so I really have to give them 0/10 for not having a girls back. read more
