Neighborhood spot I've been to countless times over the years, known for its seasonal menu and authentic cuisine. I returned yesterday after more than a year and am not sure if there's been a change in management, staff, food, or ownership, but the experience was drastically different--and what happened at the end was honestly shocking. We ordered a bottle of water for the table, and after 20 minutes, we still hadn't seen our waiter again. The staff appeared completely different from previous visits. The new hostess was kind enough to bring the water and take our order while also managing the host stand. The food was also noticeably different. The cheese in my salad was so hard that when I bit into it, I initially thought it was a piece of plastic. I showed it to the runner, who said he would let the chef know. Overall, the food was just okay--the pasta sauce didn't seem fresh, and the Milanese was not prepared the way I remembered it. While waiting to check out, we overheard another table wrapping up. When asked how everything was, the woman very politely said everything was good except her steak, which she described as grey, rotten, and having an unusual smell. She explained that she ate around it because she didn't want to send it back, had dined there countless times, and, as someone in the service industry, could tell something was off. She even ended by complimenting everything else, including the pasta. Our waiter responded, "But you did eat it, correct?" She calmly reiterated that she ate around it but believed something was wrong with the steak. What happened next was shocking. The owner confronted her, saying he was "highly offended," that no one else had complained about the steak, that he personally buys the groceries and ensures their freshness, and accused her of being extremely rude for suggesting otherwise. For context, this customer was exceptionally polite and respectful throughout--more than I would have been. She simply stated that she was only describing her experience. The owner then escalated the exchange into a screaming match, creating an extremely uncomfortable scene for everyone around them. I do not know this woman and had never seen her before, but witnessing how she was treated for respectfully providing feedback was enough for me. DOC is unfortunately no longer the neighborhood spot I remember, and it's a shame. Based on both our experience and what we witnessed, I would avoid it at all costs. read more

We had a meh experience at DOC Wine Bar. We were seated in the back room which has a nice ambiance and were pretty excited to eat. However, after being seated we couldn't order because we didn't have any menus! We waited a few minutes before flagging down a waiter. The waiter made an excuse that "they were busy and were low on menus", but most of the back room and outside seating was empty. After a bit of a wait, we got one menu to share lol. Halfway through the meal, we didn't have any water left and servers did not come check on us. Every other table around us had a pitcher of water, so we had to once again flag someone down. The food itself is not bad. The arugula salad was fresh, but the other dishes we ordered lacked a depth of flavor. Pasta vongole, Pollo, and arancini which were priced pretty high for what they were. I'm devastated - this place has CHANGED. It used to be a classic, cozy, friendly spot. Old school Italian vibes, the owner would walk around and chat with tables. Food was simple but incredible. Until now. The food is absolutely disgusting. I ordered a peach, ricotta, and prosciutto dish that was literally canned fruit (no joke - literal canned peaches) tossed onto a plate with the worst presentation I've ever seen. Ordered bread, it never came. The lasagna, which used to be great, tasted like cafeteria food in jarred sauce. Service was terrible, the energy was weird, and all the tables around us seemed unsatisfied as well. It's been 4 days and I'm still dreaming about the Burrata. The warm eggplant and tomatoes underneath compliment the fresh burrata so well, I really can't recommend this app enough. We got the bread for the table and I used some of it for the dish as well. Fantastic. The bartender Josh was also incredibly friendly and sweet! Going back again for the food but also for him! He came out and explained his special cocktails for the day; I got his Apple espresso martini- delicious!! We weren't too hungry so we just ate an app but we are already planning to come back for a proper dinner on date night. The inside is very cozy despite actually being very large and spacious! As soon as you walk in the vibes are great for intimate parties of 2, but walking further back and to the right leads you into a bigger space great for larger parties. Doc wine bar has the best ambiance. You can sit inside, outside, at their bar, or on a cozy circular couch. REAL candles flood the space and make it look very intimate and cozy. The servers are all straight out of Italy, which is a great thing for an Italian restaurant. The pasta is all made fresh daily and they offer specials so don't forget to ask about them. I've been here a couple times and the pasta is always the best thing on the menu. The wine by the glass is okayyyyy, maybe I got the wrong thing. So we were stuck with a secondhand description instead. Then the bottle turned out to be corked -- and they served it to us anyway, in cheap glasses that didn't do it any favors. This is such a sad review to write because D.O.C. used to be one of my favorite places. I came here frequently with friends and always had a great experience, but after not visiting since last year, I stopped in for dinner last night and was shocked by how much it has changed. It seemed like an entirely new staff, the service was disorganized, and the food quality was nowhere near what it used to be. The bread was stale and served with cheap-tasting marinara instead of the fresh bread and oil they used to bring out. We shared a salad, chicken cutlet, and pasta. The Parmesan in the salad was so stale and hard my friend thought she bit into plastic, the chicken was dry and didn't taste fresh, and the pasta sauce tasted off. We also waited about 20 minutes for water before having to ask another waitress. The final straw was watching the "owner" approach a woman sitting near us after she politely told her server that her steak tasted spoiled and wasn't cooked properly. Instead of handling the complaint professionally, he came over and started yelling at her, insisting she was wrong because he personally shopped for the steak. She wasn't rude or making a scene at all, so his reaction was honestly shocking. Unfortunately, after that experience, I won't be returning. Tried to use a $200 gift card purchased two weeks ago, waiter says "new owner won't accept, you need to call the number on the site to get your money back". owner wouldn't come speak to us. We shared a pasta with their pistachio-based pesto and their gnocchi gratin. I'm a sucker for any dish that uses pistachios in a savory context, and the pesto was definitely the highlight of our meal, with a hearty nuttiness that felt like a revelation. We actually stumbled upon DOC Wine Bar as we were walking to dinner reservations at a different restaurant in Williamsburg. DOC was so beautifully inviting with its romantic ambiance and cute outdoor seating that we decided to go back the following night for dinner. I am so glad we did! The food was FANTASTIC! The services was great! And the ambiance was so charming. My husband ordered the Lasagna Bolognese and i ordered the Paccheri shrimp dish. Both were cooked to perfection... it's like they melted in your mouth and the flavor was so good. We were here for a very sad occasion, a celebration of life for a dear person who passed way too young. This was the perfect venue for it. The restaurant is lovely, the food was delicious, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the drink choices. Later we had dinner, and everything was wonderful. I had a little bit of a number of things, but was already full from all the hors d'oeuvres. The Eggplant Parmesan was very good, as was the beet salad, which had beets so thinly shaved, you could practically see through them. The tiramisu dessert was also scrumptious. I don't know how I managed to eat any as I was so full, but I did have a few spoonfuls. Even the bread basket was great, with thin crisps of air in them. In addition to that, server was extremely rude. We had a party of 8, of course it takes a few minutes to place the order. My wife changed the order for one of the appetizers and the server rudely said "did you decide what you want now? You have already changed your order once". I get the large party gratuity, but this was not mentioned anywhere beforehand and the server sneakily tried to get more gratuity by not mentioning the 20% gratuity that was already added. Been here a few times, a really cool place whether its a date night or or just casual dinner with friends, the decor features all kinds of authentic sardinian items and masks. The service is amazing, not overbearing but they dont leave you hanging either, and the food is fantastic, featuring common italian staples as well as some original sardianian dishes and all home made desserts. This place is a Williamsburg gem for Italian food. Me and my husband went there for memorial day weekend (5/29/2022) date night, we didn't make a reservation but got the table right away. The service was great! Super helpful and very respectful. We easily stayed hours and a half here and could have stayed for an extra hour since we enjoyed everything so much. We started with a glasses of Rose. The price is reasonable and they taste so good. For the food. We got the PANE CARASAU (Typical bread from Sardinia toasted with EVOO, sea salt, & rosemary) and the Seafood salad as appetizers. Both were delicious. The Shrimps and squids in the salad was perfect. For mains, we got the FETTUCCINE with shrimps pasta dish which was light for a summer day, but the highlight was the PAILLARD DI POLLO ALLA GRIGLIA. The chicken was very well cooked and the salad was delicious!! We ended the night with the Strawberry Cheesecake and it definitely was the highlight of the night. Good food and atmosphere, but beware of tricky waiters: At a recent dinner my waiter made a show of adding up our bill out loud, then presented me with a total -- no itemization-- on an electronic pad. I paid with my phone and then added a generous tip. When my bill was emailed later I saw that the waiter had added a gratuity in the total without telling me. This was for a table for three, not a large party. I called the restaurant to have the extra tip reimbursed, which they said they would do but never did, so I had to dispute the charges with my credit card. I am a sucker for authentic Italian food (very different from Italian American) and this place was really top notch. I ordered a glass of the grillo-- very good a but sweet but light. We ordered a salad can't remember which but it was excellent. And the fregola pasta. The pasta was another level. So creamy and had the perfect Al dente bite each time. I was so full but I couldn't put it down it was soooooo good. I would come back just for that pasta alone, but the service was great and the atmosphere was also nice. I love DOC - you can always be sure you'll have a yummy meal here. We tried some new items - fava bean toasts and the watermelon salad - both were super tasty and well done. You could tell they picked out only the best pieces of watermelon. My only disappointment was that they no longer serve the pesto crostinis and don't have a fresh basil pesto dish on the menu (they used to). It's basil season and pesto is one of my faves! Also, they packed up my leftover pasta and didn't bring it back to the table and by the time I realized it we had left and were too far away to go back.
