Truly a hidden gem in the city! It is a great place for individuals who love an older American vibe. The food is comfort food, and the bartender is very lovely. My boyfriend and I stayed at the box house hotel for a night as part of a mini staycation and to scope the neighbourhood (I'm moving soon) - the hotel gave us a buy one get one free deal for cocktails at this spot -so we checked it out before dinner - not only was the bartender lovely, the guac and chips were some of the best I've ever had - completely unexpected! When it was time for breakfast the next day, since it was a Tuesday morning, the options were limited so we just went with this spot again - the food (albeit overpriced - in my opinion) is very very good - see my huevos rancheros pic - not extremely authentic but high quality and made with local ingredients and yummy coffee! Some of the reviews on here are more about the attitude of the reviewer and not the super high quality of the food, drinks and service - I don't write 5 star Yelp reviews for just anyone and this one is hella in point. read more

This is a bar that you're lucky to go into. Grab a stool. Meet Dave. You'll probably end up meeting the rest of the bar. Dave has a true talent of making what could be uncomfortable - comfortable (and funny!) Where you from? Why you here? It has a unique character. Not because its gleaming with water views or $20 copper Moscoe mules, but interaction that even a therapist would be jealous. Mary, Meghan, and the rest of the staff are undoubtably gangsters (and comedians) to driving this place into THE best hangout in Greenpoint. I cant find anything like it. Stiff Drinks are cheap ($12?), happy hour is fantastic ($6-8?). Each bartender has their own specialty of drinks that you can get off menu. Go for it! The food is really good. Not common for a bar-ish place you might say? I love the wings (they got a kick!) and dont miss out on the mozzarella sticks with homemade spicy marinara. Amazing! The burger and fries are pretty solid too! Yes it has TVs and a projector, but you dont need your phone, and you dont need a game. Meet someone new. Brooklyn Lantern is one of our favorite spots. When we lived in NYC The Box House was our little staycation destination. Over our stays, we got to know the wonderful people and enjoy the food and atmosphere of the Brooklyn Lantern. When we got engaged it just made sense to have our wedding here and it was more than we had hoped for. From the minute we checked into the hotel we were treated so well and everyone at both the Box house and the Brooklyn lantern made sure we felt special and celebrated. I think I remember this building as an old factory. LIC has changed much in my 58 years here in Brooklyn. Old history aside... The Brooklyn Lantern is a really great spot. I'm from Bedstuy and recently found myself stranded in LIC due to car issues. The Lantern and the Box House hotel's staff were very accommodating and understanding of my situation and were wonderfully accommodating. While waiting for a tow truck and needing cash, a meal, some whisky (for my 'nerves'), a Restroom & and an ear, they looked past my attire and other "things", and treated me wonderfully, respectfully and compassionately. And the food was amazing! As was the service! Big props to the two young ladies whose names I have forgotten 'cause I'm old, that served me on Monday, 9/24/18 after 6pm? 7pm? And props to "Dublin", the guy that served me tonight, while I was waiting for a tow truck that never came! (We did enjoy the movie Scarface and some old school tunes.) Thank you all for your great booze, food, excellent and professional service. It won't be forgotten! Anyone looking for a nice chill bar/eats in LIC? I highly recommended this place! P.S. Stayed at the hotel, been here now for dinner once and breakfast once. Let's start with breakfast. Service was slow. We picked our own table, and after getting menus and water we sat for so long that we had to flag down a waitress to get our order. Literally felt like we were forgotten about. There was a twelve top and three other tables besides us but that's not an excuse not come take our order. Then the food came which tasted pretty good. My girlfriend had eggs you way and I got the polenta and eggs. My dish was good until I found a hair in the dish. I told another guy that worked there (not our waiter mind you) that there was a hair in my food and he apologized and asked if I wanted something else to which I replied no. When it came time to pay the bill, we sat for so long with no attention to us I had to again flag down our waitress for the bill. And to my surprise there was no modification to the bill even I sent back my dish because it had a hair in it. Ultimately service is slow, inattentive, and not that pleasant. Food is above average but finding that hair in my dish was not appetizing. Ambience is great, coffee drinks are good. Dinner was a better experience. The burger was delicious albeit slow to kick out of the kitchen. Our waitress wasn't overly knowledgeable about the bar drinks but that was ok. She was sweet. Not sure I'd come here again. read more

I went with my family for Sunday brunch. I've never experienced anything like this or our server in any country (I've traveled internationally, extensively my whole life), let alone any restaurant in NYC. Where to begin?... She (our server) made a huge scene while taking my order because she somehow didn't know and couldn't read and/or comprehend her own restaurant's menu items... The item required a choice of sausage or avocado, among other options, and an option to add an additional item for extra cost, which I did (steak)... She kept insisting that because I added the steak, the required choice item in the menu item was no longer applicable (I had attempted to choose the avocado). I tried explaining their own menu to her and thought she finally got it... And then she comes back out about 10 mins later, after all the orders were placed and says, "See? You were wrong! It's an additional charge for steak!"... Baffled by this, I explained that that was not the issue (of course the steak was an additional charge), but that she had insisted that it nullified the base menu choice of the avocado which it clearly did not. The very definition of an additional item means it's "in addition" - it doesn't magically delete part of the actual menu item itself! Anyway, she then looked confused again, but said ok and went back... Of course, the other dishes came out first, with no cutlery to be seen. We asked for cutlery and she made an "ugh" groan... I mean did she expect us to eat steak and eggs with our hands?... She then comes back with a handful of forks and knives and just tosses them onto the middle of the table. It startled all of us (as of course there was a loud clanking noise as they landed on the table). We were all in shock that that just happened, and at that point, about half the table wanted to just get up and leave... After discussion, we decided to stay and eat our meal in silence and just leave and NEVER EVER come back. Oh, and of course, my dish comes out after most of the table is over half done eating and surprise, surprise, no avocado!... AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! (We left after paying the bill and a normal tip, which she seemed surprised by - I believe 99% of people would not have) read more

Had breakfast here after checking out of the attached hotel, The Box. I have a hard time believing this is an actual functioning restaurant. Our server was nice but completely scattered and may or may not have ever waited tables before. There were random people wiping down tables, it was unclear if they were employees, but no one seemed to be overseeing the dining room. Had to ask for menus. Had to ask for coffee refills. Food took a while even though the place was nearly empty. But the one-star is for the completely inedible omelet. It was brownish-green rubber. Completely overdone w zero flavor. The server did take the omelet off our bill and promptly delivered our check. Truly a bizarre experience. read more

Our brunch dining experience was horrific. The restaurant was practically empty and we waited over one hour for our omelettes. Plus, one of our omelettes was incorrectly prepared and the waiter argued with us about it instead of just taking it back to the kitchen are making it properly, as ordered. Poor Service. I came in on my lunch break as i've actually been meaning to try this place for sometime now since I work right next door. I decided to sit at the bar and order, I must note, there wasn't anyone in the entire restaurant aside from one other couple (also seated at the bar) and myself. The bartender neither greeted me nor gave me a menu upon my sitting down, even though the place was practically empty. She continued to ignore me for a few more minutes, focusing on the couple for some reason. I decided to leave when she further ignored me and decided having a conversation with a co worker was more important than acknowledging that i'd even sat down. I will not be coming back and am definitely not recommending any of my co workers to patronize this place. Such a pleasant suprise to find this hidden jem. I stopped in for a beer and a light dinner. The hot honey chicken wings and sautéed brussel sprouts were definitely a wow and the Bourbon truffles rated an Oh My God; they're so good. Throw in a $5 pint and I call it a good night. We stayed at Box House Hotel for a week. We had delicious and consistent food at breakfast lunch and dinner. We also ate our way around Brooklyn and Manhattan.
