this is that burger I was talking about in my review
    Kaylamarie C.

This place was ok! Me and my bby stopped in really quick for a little lunch and were rushed to pay the bill because his shift was over....hate that!! The menu is super small which is not always a bad thing but if its small everything has to be great. We didn't order much so this is just my quick experience: I forget what they were actually called but it was like cheese bread biscuit kind of things with guava butter - they were just OK. That guava butter was good though and very interesting. Definitely helped those biscuits out. The chicken tacos were just OK too. Nothing crazy, the chicken itself was pretty good because it wasn't dry at all which is nice. But then the rest was just a tiny bit of beans..some onions. No crazy good flavor or anything like that. HOWEVER, I will say we got the burger.....BANGIN. Had these really good onions on top nice and cheesy, awesome sesame covered bun. I would go back just for that burger. It came with a salad that was so boring and light that it complimented the burger even more. You know what...I was going to give it 3 stars because that check thing, but that burger was so good I'll give it 4....

Skillet baked eggs with chorizo, peppers and potato

Definitely a great place for brunch. Their homemade cheesy bread with salted guava butter was delicious. The bread was light and fluffy, paired with the guava butter it was phenomenal. I order their skillet baked eggs with chorizo, peppers and potato. OMG, it was the best brunch plate I ever had! I love chorizo and I guess since it was baked it wasn't too oily like other chorizo dishes that I had. Only waited 5 mins for a party of 3 on a Saturday around 1:00PM. Was supposed to go to Five Leaves across the street but the wait was 40 mins long and the host recommended to go here since the wait was shorter. I'd give this 5 stars, here are the reasons why I took off 2 stars: -1 ~ waited for 30 mins for our entrees to come, waitress was apologetic but still, we were so hungry! -1 ~ not sure who he was, he came to our table and apologized for the long wait for the food, he said our first round of drinks were on him, guess what? We were still charged for them!

Came here with friends for brunch because the line at 5 Leaves was too long & as soon as we entered, the waitress just looked at us blankly. (Uhm, hi to you too?) We sat ourselves & she still asked (rudely) if we were dining in. Yes, otherwise we would've made a beeline for the bar if we were waiting for 5 Leaves. duh! You don't come here for the service. Anyways, we got cheese bread & chips, salsa, & guac to share. Disappointed with the chips, salsa, guac combo because they were pretty much single serving size. But cheese bread was pretty good! It was moist & flavorful. Their avocado toast was delicious & savory, despite it only being 2 slices of toast. My friend enjoyed her avocado salad but I also wasn't satisfied/impressed with the portions.

    That guava butter though.....

Ended up strolling into this place as the wait for five leaves was 2 hours (wtf ny).... Friendly staff for the most part but my biggest complaint was our 45 min - 1 hr wait for our food........... I believe there is only one chef who works in this TINY kitchen by the entrance..... Steak & eggs: wasn't a fan of their chimichurri sauce but it's steak and eggs. The eggs were cooked sunny side up to perfection but the overall dish was pretty mediocre. Cubano sandwich: MUCH better than the steak & eggs and honestly the best part was the perfectly toasted bread, so soft soooo goood. THE HIGHLIGHT: the butter that came with the cheese bread. Yes, the guava butter. I expected the cheese bread to be more like pan de quesos that you get at those Brazilian bbq restaurants but it was more like a cream puff.... Without the cream. But the butter made up for it. The cheese bread was more of a vessel for the butter really. Didn't blow my mind away and would've been better if I didn't have to wait eons for the food to come out. Would I come back for that butter ? 1000%. Anything else? Definitely not.

This place is pretty awesome. The design of the bar (being in a triangular (scalene?) shaped building) is really cool - I especially like the DJ window. The menu is pretty solid and the staff/bartenders are attentive and efficient. If I lived any closer, I'd be here on a daily basis I think.

the dark bar. lots of cachaca on the menu

At the crossroads of Williamsburg and Greenpoint is the flatiron of 1 Bedford Ave. This Billy Green establishment is the new venture of the Five Leaves team whose eponymous restaurant is across the street. Though timeout magazine says it was carribbean inspired, it feels more like a bar from Sao Paulo or even Buenos Aires - much more South American in soul that is. the bartenders were very competent. they do small plates of bar food. the crowd is VERY hipster. wear neon 80s and you'll fit right in. dress corporate 80s to make a statement.

It was sort of an odd time so the spacious restaurant wasn't very busy. We studied the menu for too long and after much deliberation, here's what we ordered, in order of spice level: - Oxtail ($35): Not spicy, super flavorful, "Trimmed and sliced chunks of oxtail seasoned freely with fresh spices and simmered to tender perfection." - Curry goat ($29): Mildly spicy, "Goat meat marinated and cooked in curry spices and herbs makes this an exotic dish." - Jerk chicken ($20): Apparently incredibly spicy so I steered clear of it, "A Jamaican delight. Spicy, delicious chicken baked with this unique combination of spices from the island." The dishes I could handle were excellent, with no drop of sauce left unmopped. On the sides front, the rice and beans, roti, steamed vegetables, and plantains were all tasty. The entree sizes were hearty. Our server seemed like a cool dude: easygoing with a sense of humor. It was kind of chilly in the restaurant, not sure if we were in a warmth dead zone or what. The bathroom was frog-themed which was a cute touch!

The friendly one woman staff helped seat us, recommend the dishes, made the drinks, prepped and served the food. It was all tasty. What's to cheer - Nice not to too sweet homemade rum punch - Solid, flavorful oxtail. Very island spiced and cooked well - Goat was also really strong - Reasonable prices - service with personality What's to jeer - they were out of the jerk chicken unfortunately which I really wanted to try - place is pretty low key and not swimming with ambience

Upon arrival the restaurant is very clean, and the service was fast. There is a dine in area as well. The woman who took my order was very patient , and personable. I ordered a brown stew fish, cabbage and 3 small soups. Everything came out to about $49. The chicken soup was very good . The cabbage was also very good. The fish on the other hand was very salty and not worth the $20 charge (fish with no sides). I get it the area etc etc but for the price the food should be top notch. The other establishments are much better. Would I return.....I don't think so .

Escovitch fish meal which came with plantains, rice and peas, and spinach. Everything was still warm and tasty when I arrived home. The order was packaged nicely. Definitely, nice portions for the prices. Place is clean. Staff is friendly, informative, and service was amazing. It takes about 10 minutes for the fish since they make it to order. I will soon be back and may have them do some catering orders for me( usually order from the location on flatbush). Pop in if you ever get in the area and want some hot warming food.
